"722 Edition" Mercedes-McLaren SLR (Oh, sorry; got it backwards...) A continuing tradition: the new model variant SLR "722 Edition" is a homage by Mercedes-Benz to the unforgettable victory won by the British racing legend Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7.22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955. With an output of 478 kW/650 hp and a corresponding performance, the new super sports car, which goes on sale on July 11, will not only make the hearts of car enthusiasts beat faster. Consumers aren't exactly sure what they are: station wagon? SUV? 4X4? While crossovers typically offer the spaciousness of a station wagon, the higher ride height of an SUV, and the 3-row seating of a big SUV or minivan, they lack the sporty image and off-road ability of SUVs, the roominess of minivans, and the traditional family image of the station wagon. Here are pictures and a video of the 2010 Mercedes E350 Coupe at the Georgian College Autoshow in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. One of the only true hardtops on the market. It looked incredible in the sunshine. I find that little rear quarter window a bit strange, but I guess they had to do it to get the sleek roofline. VIDEO: PICS:

2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class unveiled via web leak Dec 9th 2008 at 3:28PM Link to Article We've seen so many spy shots of the upcoming 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class that these official images hardly move us. Yet here they are, three images leaked onto the web that reportedly reveal the final production form of the 2010 E-Class, which makes its official debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show in March. Strongly evoking Buick up front in the grille, and the Cadillac Escala in the lighting, Mercedes has revealed a striking concept 2-place convertible, to debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this weekend. The claim is 4 electric motors rated at 750 HP, and it rides on 24-in rims. - - - - - Personal opinion- tho of course it won't be produced, it IS quite imposing. It's like a modern day interpretation of the '58 Argonaut Smoke; an immense 2-pass convert. THIS is the sort of thing a brand does to stand out & make a name for itself; THIS say luxury like any s-class coupe or SL convert could never hope to. Years ago I used to draw cars with proportion…

The next model in Mercedes-Benz's compact assault has been revealed. On the eve on Auto China, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Chinese market A-Class L sedan. L stands for long-wheelbase. Compared to the standard hatchback, the L sedan adds 2.4-inches to the wheelbase - all of it going to rear seat passengers. There isn't much difference in terms of the design between the A-Class sedan and hatchback. Right up until the rear doors, both models share a large grille, trapezoidal headlights, and bold lines along the side. Around back, the sedan gets a narrow trunk lid and the roofline isn't lowered - that will be saved for the upcoming CLA. The interior is the same as the hatc…

Over the last 5 months, Ive seen at least 6 to 7 different SMART cars running around. A few here in Beaverton, some on Interstate5, and quite a few in the Pearl District. I saw two at the EOS block party that VW threw in the Pearl District(Portland, OR.), a black one and a silver one. I saw one driving around an Albertsons parking lot in Tigard. Are they already selling the SMART cars here in the US?

Chinese Smart Car Copy Outrages DaimlerChrysler Chinese company CMEC has begun production of a new two-seat city car that appears for all the world like DaimlerChrysler offshoot Smart's six-year-old Fortwo. And its appearance has DaimlerChrysler executives hopping mad. Even the name of the Chinese car is daringly close to that of the original: Electric City Smart. Smart's original two-seater was christened the City Coupe before adopting the name Fortwo in 2004. Aesthetically, there's not much separating the two cars. Only the door handles, exterior mirrors and fuel tank of the CMEC-produced car display any discernible change from the original Smart design.

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 4, 2013 This is the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG Racing Series concept that will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. The company says the concept "provides a preview of a further customer sports racing car from Mercedes-AMG". The concept takes your standard CLA 45 AMG and makes a number of tweaks to make it ready for the track. The body has a fair number of aerodynamic adjustments such as a new front and rear apron, front splitter, flared side sills, cooling vents for the engine and brakes, and a carbon-fiber rear spoiler. The interior has been stripped down to cut weight down. There is a full rol…

The concept marks the end of the CL-Class and the return of the S-Class nameplate to Mercedes' large coupe. The S-Class Coupe Concept is much more striking than the new S-Class sedan with a taller beltline, short greenhouse, long front end, distinctive grille, and missing B-Pillar side profile. Moving inside, Mercedes-Benz has placed the dashboard from the new S-Class and seating for four people. Powering the the concept is a 4.7L Twin-Turbo V8 with 449 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Expect a toned-down …

Daimler & Aston Martin Partnership, Possibly Not Happening William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 28, 2011 When we last heard about Daimler and Aston Martin going into talks, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said talks have taken place and were close to a decision. Reports coming from Germany this week says the talks between the two has broken down. The reason is reportedly due to Aston Martin asking for more money than Diamler was willing to hand over. The proposal that was under negotiation was to have Aston Martin work on the next generation of Maybach vehicles. In return, Daimler would give Aston Martin platforms and engines fr…

Smart has released some design pics of the For-Us concept. The For-Us concept is a pickup truck for the urban market. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 13, 2013 Mercedes-Benz has pulled the covers off the brand new CLA250 four-door coupe, which the three-pointed star hopes will bolster its entry-level lineup and bring in younger people. The CLA takes the design of the larger CLS and shrinks it down a bit. There’s a gently sloping roofline, flowing character lines along the side, and swept-back taillights. The overall design is also very efficient, getting a drag coefficient of 0.23 (the Toyota Prius has a drag coefficient of 0.25). Underneath the coupe-like sheetmetal, the CLA rides on the modular MFA front-wheel drive architecture which also underpins the A…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 17, 2013 Mercedes-Benz has pulled the curtain back on the 2015 C-Class that will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month. SANTA MONICA, California — The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is just days away from its official debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, and Inside Line now has an early look at the future Mercedes E-Class cabriolet as well. Power is expected to come from the same engines offered in the E-Class coupe: a 292-horsepower direct-injecte…

Better late than never? By Chris Walton Date posted: 03-30-2006 OK, if you're like us, you're asking, "Doesn't Mercedes-Benz already have one SUV with the M-Class — two if you still count the G-Class?" And if you're concerned about the environment, you might ask, "Does the world really need another SUV?" So why has Mercedes-Benz chosen to build the 2007 GL450, a seven-seat, all-wheel-drive sport-utility powered by a 335-horsepower V8, in this era of SUV bashing? According to its own studies, Mercedes has lost 25 percent of its current M-Class owners to full-size domestic-branded SUVs due to family-size growth. The company also knows that many well-to-do Mercedes-Benz…

That is unless you can lower the car's top at the touch of a button and enjoy it all the more, like we did in the 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG. The new 6.2-liter engine, designed from scratch by the powerhouse AMG division of Mercedes-Benz, features a wildly "oversquare" design; that is, the diameter of the cylinder bores (102.2mm) is larger than the stroke (94.6mm) of the pistons. In other words, you can almost distinguish each discrete explosion as the high-compression (11.3:1) engine bellows through the free-flow dual-tipped exhaust. For ge…

It’s hard to imagine having a bank account fat enough to afford a $177,325 Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic Cabriolet. By now, we've all heard from our resident Mercedes lover how simply FABULOUS the G-Class is and how it is so much better than anything Cadillac could ever do. So armed with my trusty camera and a press pass to one of the large auto shows in the past few months, I took documentation of the super duper high kwality of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Class... let's begin. Back in the late 70's, Ford dared to compare their Ford Monarch sedan to a Mercedes sedan.. I'm pretty sure Mercedes got revenge by stealing their door lock buttons. Those door lock buttons go really well with these exposed screw heads. And they're found Nearly everywhere on the…

It's short, it's skinny, and it gets the equivalent of 108 miles per gallon. It's the Clever vehicle, a prototype from a conglomeration of European groups, including automaker BMW. Unveiled in Britain on Monday, Clever--short for compact low-emission vehicle for urban transport--is designed to combine the features of a micro car and a motorbike. Just over three feet wide, the Clever seats two, with the passenger directly behind the driver. Check it out, it's cool! http://sympatico-msn-ca.com.com/2300-11389...tml?tag=ca_home

Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet Link to Original Article @ Motor Authority Maybach’s newest model has been revealed ahead of its world debut at the upcoming Dubai Motor Show in a couple of week’s time. The car is a new semi-convertible version of the 62 saloon that officials will be calling a concept, but a limited production run of just 20 examples is all but confirmed for early next year. The new model is based on the current Maybach 62 but adopts a sliding roof over the rear compartment. The Landaulet design was made popular in the early part of the century and is basically a regular sedan with a fabric roof-center that can be folded away. The car also gets a revis…

So I am spending the week at the International Seattle Auto Show. With over 500 auto's on display which includes many concepts I have been able to spend some quiet time before the show opens to the public to actually look at and sit in many new cars that have been talked about here. I started off Wednesday morning focused to look at the following entry level auto's from Mercedes Benze since SMK swears they are the best auto's out there. So my initial impression of just looking at these auto's from the outside was Bland, looks like another appliance. This continues to the inside where I do not understand MB design language. The cut up dash, the so called f…

I was at Barnes and Noble tonight...yes, I'm a geek, I know, looking up good cheap restaurants in Europe and looking at car mags...so what else is new? I was looking at Consumer Reports. After about 3 or 4 years, a lot of Mercedes products, like the C-class and the M-class, start racking up a lot of "black dots" (more problems that what is typical) and in some critical categories to boot. I was wondering: "Why the hell would someone pay that kind of money to drive one of these when it isn't it "red dot" land like a Toyota, Honda and now even some GM cars"? I was kind of surprised and it would certainly keep me out of a German car (eat your heart out, Irma Bunt), esp…

So the question for this introduction at the Detroit Autoshow: Is it worth it? Does it make sense to have an auto that has so limited electric range as a plug-in even though with generator you can say you average 134.5 MPG? The best part of this is it makes the Chevy VOLT a Bargain that is superior to this MB. What are your thoughts? Would you spend money on this car?

VETTRAINO AutoWeek | Updated: 07/25/07, 4:02 pm et The demise of the internal combustion engine has been greatly exaggerated, or so Mercedes-Benz thinks. The company’s position stems from empirical observation, based on all rational evidence: Internal combustion will remain the workhorse in transportation and power equipment for decades to come. Beyond this conclusion, Mercedes’ advanced engineering staff believes the efficiencies in both spark-ignition and diesel engines are a long way from tapped out, even after 100-plus years of development. To demonstrate its point, Mercede…

I was pedaling the 10-speed thru my neighborhood tonight around 8:30 PM, so it was getting darker than it should've been for a lightless-bike to be out, but I live on the edge that way. Saw something I remembered seeing in the early spring this year: a mercedes sedan parked on a quiet side-street in a line of cars, it's driver-side taillight & front parking light ONLY on. No one around, car locked up tight. I assumed it was some sort of convoluted safety device, a 'Look! My car's parked here in the dark!' sort of thing. Problem with that was that tonight I saw one of their R-minivans doing the same thing... in a residential driveway. Is this indeed a 'safety' fe…

Mercedes Miffed at CR Mercedes has the worst record of any automaker with that many models. For a brand that claims to be "engineered like no other car in the world," that is fairly frightening. "They understand the problems and they are fixing some of them, but they have a long way to come," says David Champion, director of automotive testing at Consumers. For its part, a spokesman for Mercedes says that the data in the Consumer Reports rankings "is totally out of sync with what we're seeing in the mainstream research as well as our own customer satisfaction and warranty data." He points to the good marks Mercedes gets for ride, handling, comfort, safety and perfo…

Its beautiful design, competent handling, and punchy V-8 made it a favorite among a certain group of buyers, a recognizable symbol that told the world they'd made it to the top. Although the previous generation was a departure from its traditional style, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL63 retains the SL line's powerful V-8 ethos and a striking design while adding two vestigial rear seats for more perceived practicality. According to this Bloomberg report, Mercedes-Benz is overstating the MPG on their auto's with MPG exceeding 50% on their new A, C & E class auto's. This report by Brussels-based Transport & Environment also seems to imply that Mercedes-Benz also has a NOx problem with their own diesel fleet. Mercedes-Benz is pushing for a universal world wide light vehicle test procedure that would measure tail pipe emissions and MPG / MPK so that a single standard is built for the world wide market that they would like to take place in 2017.

We don't know why BMW created the X6, let alone introduced a redesigned model since they really don't sell that many. In November, the company only moved 421 units. But that isn't stopping the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Audi from joining the fun. Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2016 GLE Coupe. GLE is the first Mercedes-Benz model to follow the company's new nomenclature for SUVs and will be the sister model to the upcoming GLE (known currently as the ML-Class). To put this into perspective, the Maybach is right between the standard S600 ($167,825) and the maddening S65 AMG ($222,925). For the almost additional $23,000 over the standard S600, the Maybach gets an additional 7.9 inches of wheelbase which is dedicated for the backseat.
