A friend of mine that I have known for 30 years talked to me on the phone tonight. He and I shoot pool all the time when we get together. Anyway, we tells me he has been going to a new place to shoot pool, which he thoroughly enjoys. Turns out it is a strip joint. He tells me he shoots pool for a while then gets a table dance. He's been going once a week for a while now. He tells me that a stripper pulled him aside, and gave him her number and said she wanted to get with him outside the club. Now thats a first. I need to check this out when I go to visit him next month. There's more to the story, but I will leave that off here in the interest of keeping it clea…

06 Passat 06 Passat black int 03 530i 04 RSX-S 03 A6 So my favorite is the BMW, but it is also the most expensive. The A6 is the cheapest, but also has the highest mileage. The Passat is one of the cheaper ones, and the newest, but the biggest drawback for me is FWD. Same for the RSX-S, but both will be better on gas. I'm really leaning towards the BMW or Passat, but am having a hard time deciding if I want to pay $2k more for a 3 year older car, as it would be stretching my budget right now.

Others need to respect that some here may not want so many thread turning into a gay thread. I find it somewhat disrespectful while at other times its not so bad. It seems there are certain lines that need not be crossed. For me I already have shown one of mine. Apparently the gay population feels their line is more important ???????? This thread was not locked solely because of me, Im just the one that had nerve to say something. My "banter" was not useless, I was polite and to the point. How come the gay people can get mad at me for not wanting to see gay implied photos but I can not get upset about having to see them ? There are plenty of places to enjoy sexual conte…

More idle blather from my 'commuting home' brain... An average motorist (let's call him 'Randy'), not particularly an 'enthusiast', has a choice of two to make for his new midsize sedan. Nearly everything else is equal and the prices are right. But one is advertised and in fact has a high-revving 6-cylinder with a redline of 8000. The other is a torquey 6 with a redline of 5500. Since our man Randy is a bleeding heart ecologist, he asks himself: Given the same owner, roads traveled and driving techniques, would the car that requires on average 1500 more RPM to deliver the same level of performance... that extra RPM would have to in …

Name your favorite President or political figure. Doesn't have to be for political reasons. Me? My favorite President is Andrew Jackson. Reasons: Kicked the snot out of a British army, 50% larger than his own, after the truce was agreed on, forcing the British to abide by it. He was the target of the first assassination attempt against a U.S. President. An insane, out of work house painter blamed Jackson for his perpetual unemployment. He followed Jackson to the capital rotunda and fired two pistols at Jackson. Both pistols fortunately misfired. Jackson then beat the man with his cane until his aids restrained him. Jackson fought 13 duels, many nominally ov…

I have a couple of meetings/classes/hobbies I go to in the evenings in my spare time after work. This lady runs one of them. She's pretty cool. However, she just called me to tell me about this chick she wants to invite to the next one and part of the thing is that she would like this chick to meet me. Un-f*cking-believable. It's too late. I'm sure this chick will come to the next meeting. This is MY time to unwind and I don't go to "mind expanding" events to meet people, other than on a platonic level. This changes the complexion of this event for me. Have you guys experienced this? This ridiculous need to matchmake. Not only that, what I have found every ti…

Plymouth in it's heyday had huge sales, often in the top three in America. It was sad to see this brand disappear. It was created as an economy division. The name Plymouth is often thought to derive from the landing of the Pilgrims, but what finalized the deal for the name was the very popular, at the time, 'Plymouth Bindertwine'...which most people were aware of. Plymouth went onto great success. Here are some of my favorite Plymouths.

Since I took pics of pics of my family's wrecked vehicles... took some of non-wrecked ones, too. Again, our 00 Grand Am SE wrecked: Our 89 Regal and 96 Grand Am SE sitting beside each other: Our old 83 Plymouth Turismo and 8? Cutlass: My cousin's 91 Firebird: BTW, please excuse me as a baby... Those are the only pics I have of these vehicles. Also excuse the poor quality. I don't have a scanner as you know... So I have to take pictures of pictures with my digicam and as you also know, my digicam sucks.

Well guys, this morning I had one of those moments where I was about to pull my hair out, and then my little girl (now 1 year old) did just the thing to set my day perfectly all right. I was running late, Amy (the wife) was also running late, which meant I had to pull bath duty with squirt. I'm kinda cursing under my breath, and all in all griping about having to give her a bath when she looks up at me from the tub and points at me and says "Da da". After that I just kinda had to sit in the floor and everything didn't matter from there on.... I just sat there and played with her in her tub with a grin on her face, just watching her splash around and blabber this and t…

But reasonably, one that's very well-equipped, very good condition, and with very low miles (under 50k). Difficult? Maybe. But this isn't something that'll be purchased today or next week. Likely within the next few months. So, if anyone knows of anyone with one of the above, let me know.

HYSTERICAL!!! I wrote TTAC about their disgustingly poor journalism. Here's my letter and the immediate response. Mr. Farago, My name is James Conley. I'm heading into my first year of college this weekend, and I am an aspiring author and admitted car nut. As such, I have made a career of scouring the net for automotive news, articles, reviews and anything else I can get my hands on. While it isn't my aim to lash your work with name-calling and finger-pointing, I will say that TTAC is undoubtedly the most self-fulfilling, disconnected and irrelevant source of car news I have ever come across. Last week we had "Unpopular Opinion about an Unpopular Car". This week we're doing Unpopular Opinion about a Popular Car. What good selling car or one that gets lots of praise in the motoring press do you have a contrary opinion about? One entry for me is the Alfa Romeo Giulia. While they handle well, I find their styling, both interior and exterior to be completely underwhelming. They lack the refinement of most of their competition. The reliability is ...erm.... traditional Italian brand reliability. I've just never seen what the rest of the motoring press is going on about with how "great" these cars are. Apparently shoppers agree with me as the Alfa brand is…

I'm really tired of not having a vehicle and driving the CRV (gag) on weekends. I want something cheap, and even though I'm not an SUV kinda guy, I need one for working on apartments. The CRV has served remarkably well in that role. I want something cheap because I don't want to spend much money before leaving for Germany (which seems to be eternally delayed). What about a final model Bravada? Anyone have any info on them?

[source: Wall Street Journal] Windows 7 Is Strong, But PC Lift Unclear By NICK WINGFIELD Consumers snapped up copies of Microsoft Corp.'s new Windows 7 operating system during its first week on store shelves, though it's too soon to tell to what extent the software will ignite sales of new personal computers. Sales of Windows 7 have been "fantastic" since the launch, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said at a press event in Tokyo Thursday, without providing details. The first glimpse into demand for Windows 7 came from NPD Group, a research firm that tracks retail sales. NPD said unit sales of boxed copies of Windows …

Anybody have some pretty memorable kills? I'll share two. The first was about a year or so ago. My dad and I were in the Durango and some punk in a riced out Civic was revving at us laughing. Funny thing is, when the light turned green, my dad brake torqued it a bit and took off, beating the Civic to the next light and the kid didn't look over nor rev. Idiot. Next is my one of two "best" kills in the Camaro (the other was against a mid-90s GT and was probably my best kill). But I raced a dude who was in a Hemi Ram. He said to go at green (we were both cruising Gratiot) and we did, but I got a terrible start. He said he started bad too (he lost nonethe…

Recently I have come into posession of a Nintendo Entertainment System circa 1985. I've wanted one for a while, but couldn't justify the $60+s&h for one on eBay. I found a used game place that had one so I traded my N64 (hasn't been used regularly in years) and some games for it. I've got Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3 as well as Duck Hunt. OH MY GOD THESE THINGS ARE AWESOME! (Sorry, I just went reg on you guys) I didn't have one when I was younger (went straight into the Sega Genesis) so I didn't get to spend a lot of time with the NES back in the day and am making up for it now. It's sad to say but I will be parting ways with my xB within the next month or two. My family has decided to do some car rearranging in order to cut down on expenses and stop me from killing my sister. We have been sharing the xB for about the past year but she just started paying her portion last month. She doesn't care for it...allows people to smoke in it, trashes it, etc. I can't stand it. After my dad's Altima lease ends early next month he will get my mom's 4Runner, my sister will get a cheap car (under $3,000) and me and my mom will share a car. After doing some research this week we narrowed the field down to: 2008 Saturn Vue Mitsu Outlander Nissan Mu…

Awesome Toyota commercial, they do not have an EV out yet, they admit it as they say EVs today are a great commuter auto. Then they do this: Wanna go places? Check out the biggest lineup of Hybrid auto's. They review all of them and end with their tag "Let's go places" Well done Toyota.

Yokohama working on tires designed to move the air Tire design is typically focused on how the rubber interacts with the road, but what about the atmosphere? Yokohama has been developing a new concept tire that can improve both a car’s efficiency and handling by redirecting the air around it. The design involves small fin-like protuberances built into the outside of the tire near its shoulder, where the sidewall meets the tread. (Yokohama) Mounted at alternating angles, when they reach the top of the tire’s rotation they help to reduce aerodynamic drag, which improves high speed fuel economy and, potentially, the top speed of the vehicle. At the bottom,…

What would it be? Personally, I'd do something like a double feature, with both movies based on the original Smokey and the Bandit. One movie would be similar in spirit to the original film, but feature a different car, altered plot and storylines, and different characters. This film would be titled Eighteen (for the amount of time the truck full of Coors had to be transported across state lines in Smokey; it would also be the deadline given in this film), and the main character would have to run blocker in a black 2010 Camaro SS RS for a truck containing pounds upon pounds of illegal drugs for a drug lord in Atlanta (hell, why not have Burt Renyolds play that part?) an…

Apparently he paid cash for it already and is taking delivery on Thursday. So what did I do? I told his son about the Frame problems, and showed pictures, and directed him to this site and others and told him of some of Toyota's other follies that nobody gets to here about. Last I heard, his dad was on his way to the Toyota dealer to tell the salesman the deal was off. () Chock one up for the good guys.

I have a search set up on Autotrader to send me Avalanche listings. One of the most common eyeroll descriptions I see for Avalanches is "Fuel Sipper" or "best fuel economy" or some variant. While the Avlanche might be decent as far as trucks of that vintage go.... it's not like it's a Volt in the MPG department.... it's not even a Chevy SS in the MPG department.... and putting that in the ad isn't fooling anyone. What doozies do you see in car ads that are wildly inappropriate to the vehicle they are selling?

Low mileage, super-charged, no scratches or dings, slim attractive design. Performs great, but requires premium fuel. Recommend only filling up at Macy’s or Saks otherwise performance not guaranteed. Fuel from other locations may cause failure to start. People afraid of exotic Italian maintenance costs should look elsewhere. Was fun when I first got it, as the maintenance bills piled up, the fun factor went down. Requires synthetic oil. Recently being used by other drivers, but always garaged at home. Requires *HUGE* amount of garage space for the multitude of tires. Has NAV system, but generally drives where it wants, when it wants without regard for the owner. NAV sys…

During my morning drive to work, I tend to listen to several different morning radio shows. On Friday, one of the morning duos posed this question to its audience: "What makes someone a Loser?" I laughed at some of the replies that were called in, including one guy that mentioned: "You're a loser if you don't cheer for the home team in a sporting event." Course, that was mentioned because of the upcoming playoff game between the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints. Apparently, many Saints fans live here in Chicago. Plus, the "sentimental favorite" for the game is, of course, the Saints because of what happened to New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. Though, that…

The member listing tells you what forum you post most in. I figured it spark some discussion to post the people in the top 50 posters overall who don't post in the lounge the most, as most members do. These people go against the norm in their obsession with these forums, here they are if you haven't noticed already: sciguy_0504: 23% of posts in Asian Marques (duh...) Now this guy really is beginning to bug me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWomqEroBn8...porsche%20crash I'd love an old 70s Porsche 911 for a winter beater/SCCA car. Why would you destroy a car this cool? What's his fu$%ing problem? As far as the bitching about the layout of the dash I think this guy forgot he's English. Show me one British car from the 1970s that has a logical interior/layout. Nevermind that unlike a Jaguar that can't even start if the barometric presssure shifts 3% from when the car rolled off the assembly line at the factory, or an MG that rusts to death in about 8 months the Porsche 911 was an innovative car with one of the most su…

My 18th birthday is definitely coming up and I have no idea what to do. I want to do something for sure. I've never really had an actual bday party, being that my cousin's is the same day and my family always grouped ours together. I was basically going to her parties and pretending that it was also mine. So yeah, for once I'd like to do something of my own and I'd like to do something meaningful being that I'm turning 18. I just don't know what. I'd rather not do something that includes my family as that's what it's always been. The only problem are my limitations. I'm not sure about doing something outside of Brookville or the surrounding towns. I'm not sure about what …

After almost ten weeks of stress, aggravation & many, many dead ends I have finally sold my Super 88 to a worthy buyer. At 11:20 in the morning of April 4th 2007 I received a "subtantial" sum of money in my PayPal account. Just a few short hours later I was driving my 1959 Buick LeSabre home in a blizzard. While XP715 had Sofia in the back seat of his 1996 Buick Riviera I was behind the wheel of a 48 year old two door LeSabre with SpeedingPenguin riding shotgun. So the car drives awsome. It has 53K original miles and looks 95% presentable. There is some peeling paint on the hood due to a small carb fire that the previous owner caused but luckly put o…

I swung by the Kia dealer to take a peak at that new Optima they got. In a word, I was impressed. I'm still wary of the reliability and mechanical bits, but the styling is striking and the interior design and materials are on par with the competition. I didn't test drive it because I'm going to wait til late April to compare it to the new '12 Civic Si sedan and others, but I sat in it and examined the interior material choices. It's definitely on my test drive list now. Must be that new Audi lead designer they nabbed. My main gripe is that the 6MT is ONLY available on the base model with no options or packages (par for the course with these midsize sedans). But on the b…

Well, in a positive turn of events, my ex paid the remaining lease payments on our '07 A4 and gave it to me to drive. The lease has until December of this year. (I'm first on the lease, so you could argue it's my car anyways....LOL.) This is good....because I'm about 4,000 miles over on my CTS lease....and it needs tires.....so with the Audi, I can drive that until December, park the CTS, let the miles equalize, and not have to put tires on it for another year or so. It's been an interesting comparo to have.....two cars that are almost the same amount of money.....(A4...$39,000 msrp, CTS...$41,000 msrp)....couldn't be so different to be in and to drive. The A4 is …

I really do. Such good deals. Like this chair I got. For some time no my office chair has been broken...the seat wobbles and it feels like the mounting bracket is pushing through the cushion and against me. The other day I figured I'd look into what the problem was. Turns out the plarticlboard that the bottom of the seat is made of fractured, and the bracket really was pushing into the bottom cushion. As it also turns out the actual bracket has fractured. So the seat's junk and becoming more uncomfortable each day. I really noticed it a couple days ago when I spent almost all day working on the computer. Now, when I bought it I bought a warranty for it that covers bas…

Yep, it's that time. I've been busy the last few days, getting the cars ready for the winter. Yesterday, I changed the ATF in the wife's car. Drives like new! Also did the oil change, and rotated her tires. Besides a good cleaning inside and out, her car is ready for winter. This week, it's the Cobalt's turn. I'm debating about changing the ATF too. Busy, busy.......sounds like it is going to be another rough winter. So, what are you guys doing?

This is purposely vague, but I'm curious if anyone has ever talked to a couselor or therapist about anything? Did you find it helpful/useful? Was it worth your time? How did you go about finding someone you felt comfortable with? I'm not looking for anyone to give specifics. An answer in general terms would be appreciated.

My dad's getting rid of his 2008 Infiniti M35x in favor of a 2010 Chevy Malibu 2LT. The reason for the change is really it had gotten difficult for him to drive a car all the time and he's taking over his wife's SUV (2008 Mercury Mariner)...and his wife found the Infiniti to be "too fancy" and wouldn't drive it. So *really* this will be his wife's car (and she used to have an Aveo), but I'm still happy I was able to talk him into a Malibu as I really hated the Subaru Legacy GT which was their other choice. One of my friends is buying the Inifiniti for his wife. And yes, I did use guilt and "as a taxpayer, you own part of GM" to squash the Subaru deal...finding a buye…

I'm thinking More in the Design sense. Designs that would sell. First 2000 Buick Lacrosse, and 2003 Chevrolet SS. Similar design themes, and Dimensions. Nice Op for Platform Sharing. 1999 Chevrolet Nomad. Sharp, unique Design theme. Design would transfer well to a Coupe Platform mate. 2004 Holden Torana. Crisp modern design.Build it on an AWD version of Delta 2. Would Fit nicely As an AWD sport compact.

Some of you, the ones who have me added on Facebook, know this already. For the rest of you who don't know, I am now engaged to be married. I asked Albert on NYE just after the count down and he of course said yes. Things are still in the super early planning stages so I don't have any more details to give at this point. We're both very happy and I miss Albert lots right now. (spending this week in Toronto and next in Detroit) For those of you who don't get the reference in the title of this thread, it's from Dan Savage the sex columnist whom I highly recommend you watch on youtube because he is f@#king hilarious.

Pontiac Facts Alcoa made an "all-aluminum" Pontiac. It was a 1942 two-door streamliner and had its engine and other parts made of aluminum. In 1943, Pontiac designed a one-quarter-ton 4X4 truck proposed for build by Chevrolet. Some non-military work started again at Pontiac Engineering in 1943. Work was started on a five-inch Rocket Bomb in 1944. Pontiac also started making a 155mm shell. GM Coaches were worked on at Pontiac in 1944. There was almost no road testing due to restrictions on manpower and fuel in 1944. An experimental Pontiac 6 with a supercharger was built in 1945. An experimental Pontiac 6 with an aluminum intake manifold dual carbure…

Im in the market looking for a new truck and last night I test drove a '07 Canyon Crew Cab. Wow that thing was nice. Smooth ride, decent amount of power, and quiet engine. The interior looked pretty good to me. I heard so many complaints about it, but it was nice to me. I also test drove a '07 Frontier. That thing was a piece of garbage. The interior felt cheaper than the canyon with all that hard, cheap plastic. The ride was bumpy. I also noticed in the frontier that when i hit the gas kinda hard, the transmission was searching for gears. That seemed kinda odd to me. The Nissan salesman was in shock when I told him I didnt like it. And was tring to get me into a Titan, b…

Life has taken many twists and turns, some good, some bad. I've been busy with work, friends, family, and the ever popular past time of car shopping. Speaking of the last two... My Mom, out of the blue, offered to help me with buying a car. She just got a new job in which her pay will be about $5 more per hour than her old one, not to mention she just finished paying off the Sunfire. Anyways, this greatly helped my search for a car. Five months ago this time, all we saw was Katrina aftermath footage. It was pretty grim. Most sickening was the dead guy in his lawn chair near the Superdome as well as the things that reportedly took place inside the Superdome. Now, we don't see much about it. In about a month, Mardi Gras will be around. People ask the question as to whether they should rebuild. I say "absolutely." I've been to some places but I have never been to N.O. because every time I was driving through on 10 back to LA, I had too much stuff in the car and did not want to invite "curiosity." New Orleans is an important city. At the mouth of the Mississippi, its harbor handles more cargo tha…

In an effort to get my friend drunk the other night, therefore making it easier for me to smack her ass without getting punched, I introduced her to a drinking game I played several years ago. I popped in The Land Before Time and told her to take a shot anytime they said Littlefoot or The Great Vally. She passed out in half an hour.
