I have a couple of questions as I have gained insight on how to put a V8 in a Fiero without having to cut the frame. First off, the engine is a 4.9L Cadillac V8 from an 88-94 Cadillac FWD. How relaible are these engines? Also were they considered Northstar or was that the 4.5L? Something I can't quite remember is if the Fiero 2M4 is unibody or is it body on frame? I will be getting the Fiero from the junkyard if this works out. I want to know because they will be quite rusty and the panels and underbody will need to be done. The 4.9L is from an 89 Deville that I am looking at. It is about $900 at a local dealer but they would take less. The body is really rusty but the en…

I was walking to my 12:40 class today when I noticed green clouds moving in a swirling motion. I got to my class just as the wind was starting to pick up and the rain was beginning. A few people were behind me and I tried holding the door open but the wind was so strong that it kept blowing shut. I figured it was just a really strong thunderstorm, but it turns out that a weak tornado touched down in the center of campus with 83 mph winds. Eight people were injured by falling tree branches. Lots of trees are down but there is minimal damage to buildings. People came into class completely soaked and covered in dirt since there was dirt from a construction site nearby …

Struggling computer company to shed 10 percent of its workforce. DALLAS - Dell Inc. said Thursday that earnings fell slightly in preliminary first-quarter results, and the computer maker planned to lay off more than 8,000 employees over the next year as part of an ongoing restructuring. Dell said it earned $759 million, or 34 cents per share, in the three months ended May 4. That compared with $762 million, or 33 cents per share, in the year-ago period. First-quarter sales rose nearly 1 percent from the year ago period to $14.6 billion. Analysts, on average, expected earnings of 26 cents per share on sales $13.95 billion, according to a poll by Thomson Financial. Del…

All right, currently I have a 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS 9C1 sedan. 3.8L 231cid 90* Buick V6, 4T65E transmission. 115,720 miles on the odometer. Oil changed every 3500 miles (give or take 20miles), transmission fluid changed at 100,000 along with coolant flush and refill. Full tune-up (plugs, wires, oil, trans fluid, coolant, hoses, pcv valve, etc) performed at 105,000 miles. Brakes replaced all the way around by 80,000 miles, front rotors turned at that time. Replaced front wheel hub assemblies at 109,000 miles (although I have to yank the driver's one out again due to a bad ABS wheel speed sensor). Front end aligned at 85,000. Struts never replaced, although that'…

empowah made a comment about Chevyguy2001's spotless interior, and that reminded me of how I have to make sure the used cars' interiors are basically spotless too, and I thought some people might like to know how to remove scuff marks. If you have scuff marks from hitting the door with your feet (or from anything anywhere) and it won't come off with normal soap and water, simply take a rag, apply a little bit of paint thinner to a small part of it, and rub on the scuff mark. It should come off after just a little bit of rubbing. When you are rubbing, make sure you don't rub too hard or for a very long amount of time or it may take the paint off the door panel or area yo…

As has been noted, I watch the license plate numbers, so I have a good idea of whats being newly plated in my neck of the woods. Now that C4C is a fading memory, I'm noticing a lot more "second tier" or "third tier" used cars being plated. Stuff that looks like it was languishing under a tree for a minor fault that has been pressed back into service. I'm seeing a lot of GM FWD A-bodies returning to service and more Ford Tempo/Topazes... stuff that tended to hold together better from the '82-'94 timeframe... sorry not a lot of Chrysler, or J-bodies. I'm also finding that a lot of '96-'01 stuff being sold have nasty mechanical problems... high mileage... and since I'm t…

With my old Wal-mart special mountain bike creaking and groaning over every bump or root I hit on the trails, I figured it was time to retire the old goat and look for another bike. I set a rough limit of $500 on myself, because if I have to sped more than that on anything it won't be for a bike. Well, I got tired of looking at new bikes in bike shops that had junk components on them, and craigslist and ebay were yielding mostly clunkers. So, I figured, hey, I have wrenches, screwdrivers, and a couple of bike-specific tools, why not just build one from scratch? The end result: The specs: 1995 Giant Yukon frame RockShox front fork 44-33-22 crank 12x32 8 spe…

What do you suppose you would find, if you were to do some landscaping in your yard? Well, as I've told you guys before, I live in the village of Ramsaytown, not actually Brookville... I just have a Brookville address. Ramsaytown, as I've said, was started as a coal mining town about 200 years ago. Between then and the early 1900s, it had reached its peak and was a full blown town, like Brookville. It had everything that a small town in that era consisted of. Well, shortly after, coal mining which was the heart of this town, basically tore it apart into what it is today. Houses were destroyed or moved and the landscape was torn up. All in the name of greed, from coal mi…

I hate to open a Pandora's box and begin a political thread in our forums, but this one hits home where we all live: A proposed tax increase on gasoline to pay for infrastructure improvements to our highways and bridges. The Democrats have not even let the dust settle in Minneapolis and they are already screaming for a tax-increase to pay for the repairs that are 'vital to the Nation'. I say this is another quick dash for the cash and another attempt at slight of hand when they should take another look at the numbers and tell us where the money is going! Take a look at the chart on the clicky... http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgastaxes.asp The U.S. Government coll…

This all goes back to my decision to sell the Fusion. I've decided that I want something that will be cheap, that I can use as a stop-gap between the Fusion and whatever good car I get to replace it. The Aurora I posted the other day had its price drop to $800, but I dont have that available to me in liquid form right now (unless I want to pay some $h! late) and its not really local, so it would have to wait until the end of the month, by then it will probably be sold. The Fairmont that I looked into back in September for $700 is now $495 and just flat-out quirky-cool. Tonight, I stumbled upon an 80's Caprice wagon with a rust-free, straight body and …

From the CATO Institute. Mourning the Loss of a Great American Capitalist While the big news of the day wouldn’t seem to have a public policy angle, Michael Jackson’s death allows us to remember that such phenomenal career achievements can only be possible in an economic system that rewards and harnesses talent. The King of Pop’s creativity allowed him and his family to make hundreds of millions of dollars, yes, but it also created thousands of jobs in the music and marketing industries and brought joy to fans around the world. Whatever his personal eccentricities — perhaps, in part, as a result of them — Jackson represents a capitalit success story. No central pl…

If you’ve noticed my absence for the past week, it’s because I’m returning from a break from C&G. It wasn’t my choice to take the break, though-my home computers and our Verizon FiOS connection decided to. I can’t imagine what could make them block the site for a little over a week and then just resume allowing access to it as normal this morning. I thought that the server finally went down the toilet until I asked my friend to check if his computer would load the site, which he said did “super-fast.” Technology’s a marvelous thing sometimes, no? Lately I have picked up running / jogging after having been mostly inactive the past couple years (with the exception of lifting weights on occasion). I started off pretty hard, doing two miles and running about half of it and getting a little winded, but otherwise fine. The second time was easier, but my legs began to get a little sore and I started getting shin splints (however that has gone away). The third time I ran for 3/4 of the route and got home and my legs were spasming, and then sore for days afterward. This was about three weeks ago. Ever since then, I have been unable to run hard; I start running and the calf in my right leg feels weak to the point whe…

Chalk up another idiosyncrasis! For those of you who watch "Friday Night Lights", I'd bet I'm not the only one that noticed this.... On this past week's episode, one of the character's cars, a '75-'76 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon [believe it was the Caprice version; thought I saw the Caprice emblem on the front], was referred to as/called a "GMC wagon". In the same episode, when two of the characters torched the car, it suddenly went from being the big/roundish '75-'76 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon to the downsized/boxy '77-'79 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon. At least it was still a wagon, I suppose. And, unless my memory and fact-finding is lacking, GM never produced a…

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The victim has probably forgiven the woman who ran him down in a Northampton crosswalk. The police haven't. Police say a Pittsfield woman has been cited for running down Lord Jesus Christ as he crossed the street in Northampton. Officers responding to Tuesday's incident checked the 50-year-old Belchertown man's ID and discovered that, indeed, Lord Jesus Christ is his legal name. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor facial injuries. Police say 20-year-old Brittany Cantarella was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. So we went to do a little Christmas shopping, and needed a couple of Wii's (is that the correct pluralization?) and it turns out they're still a bitch to hunt down. Best Buy had none, Target had none, the smaller, independant places just laughed at me. Special mention goes to Sears/K-Mart because they have layaway, so according to the sales guy they haven't had any on shelves in weeks. After giving in and going to Gamestop, the search was over, walked in, got two, walked out. But I thought the whole Wii shortage thing was over.

I know we don't have a lot of Canadian members here... but I'm trying to get this message out and far. http://dissolvethecrtc.ca/ Are you tired of expensive phone and TV bills? Do you want your internet to show only what the big companies want you to see and drop everything else? The CRTC (Canadian Radio-Television Commission) has displayed that it has lost its direction and forgot about its organization motto: to have a fair and unbiased policy. Recent incidents, such as allowing Bell to throttle users connections and introduce Usage Based Billing to its wholesale customers (in order for Bell to control the prices of smaller ISPs) are clear indications that the CRT…

SAMSON, Ala. – Nine people were gunned down in a terrifying rampage across two Alabama counties by a lone shooter who authorities said burned down his mother's home with her inside, killed his own relatives on their porch and shot apparent strangers and police before killing himself. Tuesday's shootings in a mostly rural area near the Florida border were believed to be the work of Michael McLendon, who lived with his mother and had once worked at a local metal plant. The bloodshed began when McLendon burned down his mother's house in Kinston, according to Coffee County Coroner Robert Preachers. Authorities found Lisa McLendon's body inside, but they had not determined…

If there's anything that really makes me mad, it's when some degenerate goes and kills a cop... Especially when the officer is RCMP. It's kinda sad that all of the ones that have been gunned down in recent years have been green, in their 30s, with wives and families. That is until some f-ed up degenerate takes him away from them. Just one such thing happened in Hay River, Northwest Territories the other day. Now a Canada wide search is getting started and the FBI and INTERPOL are getting involved. They'll get him. ...to total up the miles driven in 2008 and put the older Monte Carlos away for the winter ... this time, including the '87 MC LS, if I can find a satisfactory "winter" (and possibly "road trip") car.... Sunday, November 23 ... I drove the older 4 MCs for the first time in over a month, due in part to not-so-nice weather on the weekends and other plans. I filled each gas tank and added StaBil to each one, so they are ready for winter storage, when that time actually arrives. I almost had 'em all out on Thanksgiving Day, but a certain 2-week-old nephew made it hard to leave the house that Thursday.... So, instead, Friday, November 28 (another sunny, relatively warm d…

So Thursday we had a family trip which involved taking the Grand Marquis and the Intrepid 2 hours from Lawrence, through Boston, to UMass Dartmouth to move my brother into his dorm, as he starts college Tuesday. The plan was to get at least 6 hours of sleep, but instead we spent it watching Batman Begins and packing. We went to sleep at about 2:30am and woke up at 4:30am to be there by 7:30am. We somehow did this, I in the GM and my girlfriend in the Intrepid. Then when we got there we had to wait an hour in a line of cars for our turn to unload, then move it to his dorm and help hims set it up. Then we had to do extra shopping for things he forgot/needed. There was als…

THE SEXES Paid To Do It, But Fails To Make His Friend's wife Pregnant After 72 Attempts In Stuttgart, Germany, a court judge must decide on a case of honorable intentions in a situation where a man hired his neighbor to get his wife pregnant. It seems that Demetrius Soupolos, 29, and his former beauty queen wife, Traute, wanted a child badly, but Demetrius was told by a doctor that he was sterile. So Soupolos, after calming his wife's protests, hired his neighbor, Frank Maus, 34, to impregnate her. Since Maus was already marrried and the father of two children, plus looked very much like Soupolos to boot, the plan seemed good. Soupolos paid Maus $2,500 f…

I keep on admiring a 91 Sunbird LE sedan at a used car dealer in my town. It was a trade-in one owner car and it has only 128kms on it. It has been sitting there for about 6 months so the price has been lowered. They send I could have it for $200. I did the free history report on it and it turned up 0 records. It was owned by a little old lady lol. The paint is rough but the rust isn't bad. THe powertrain is in excellent condition. The car has a turn off though. The floor boards are getting soft and rotting. Can this be prevented before they open or can new floorboards be put in? The kms are legitimate as the car has a 6 digit odometer unlike the Aries. Nothing mechanical…

In the comments section below an article about DaimlerChrysler paying a $40 million CAFE fine, there was this comment that was pretty interesting. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/31/nhtsa-r...ler-takes-cake/ Wasn't there a modified CAFE passed that allowed trucks more leniency than cars (down to 25 mpg)? If so, and Chevy really is at about 27 mpg for its car fleet, that's a lot better than I was thinking. Trucks have a way to go, however. It's also interesting to note how big of a difference the Prius makes on Toyota's lineup; I think CAFE can be done, but no doubt GM needs more hybrid / electric vehicles on the road. I don't see why size needs to be sacrific…

The other day I was out walking and something popped into my head about GM. Everyone says they have to many brands, including many within GM. I am not sure that they necessarily have to many brands as much as they have to many brands fighting for the same market. Perhaps GM needs to separate the brands more and going to the extreme as my mind often does I came up with the following to separate out the brands as best as they can be (albeit in a fantasy world): Chevrolet Core values: volume, affordability, practicality Core vehicles: FWD compact sedan/coupe, FWD midsize sedan/coupe, RWD volume large sedan Key competitors: Toyota, Honda, Ford...(other mainstream b…

My older 4 MCs made their long-awaited 2007 debut today, June 16. This is the LATEST in the year I've "waited" to get them started. Too bad I'll be waiting a bit longer to drive them. On the positive side, all 4 of them started virtually perfectly. After checking the oil, the battery, tire pressures, etc., they all started just fine. The '76, however, needed a bit of a boost for the battery; actually, I think it will need a new battery sooner rather than later. And, with the '72, I tried to start the car ... before I had hooked up the battery. For a while, we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start. Then, the guy who owns the garage happened to look at the batte…

Do you guys know about this: BABE2007? Cars must cost or be valued at $250 or less ... and must have all relevant state safety inspection stickers, and insurance, and be able to pass police spot checks. It sounds like a real blast.

Ok, so this is kind of a stupid story, but here goes. his moring I was pulling into the North Campus parking lot at college. Usually you can just drive through, but today there was agate installed. that gate has been there before, but it gets broken all the time, so they usually leave busted, but today yet another one was up. This threw me off, so when i came to a stop I was too far away from teh terminal to swipe my ID. Then another car pulling in behind me. I got out of the car, swiped it, got back in, and pulled away, but I was doing itin a bit of a rush, cuz there's a time limit on that gate. In my rush, I grazed the damn pole that the gate is connected to. i was so…

* WORD MATH: Not having enough energy + drugs = too much thinking time My energy level is starting to increase (as evidenced by a 3-day stretch where I had 2 days of "Nephew Time" and 1 day "out" at my Aunt/Uncle's house for the midday hours), so I can HOPEFULLY get a few things done soon, before I go to work in about a month. Which also means ... less "online" time. It's not good to wonder "what if" OR torture oneself with "if I only knew then what I know now" OR consider what you might do given a "do over" chance. Yet, sometimes the mind just wanders to those ... and it's hard to stop it, particularly when the drugs are doing most of the talking. I don't have any…

R.I.P. Hugh Hefner 91 Playboy Founder Plenty of news, so sad but Hefner is dead. Guy started the main stream of porn, boys fantasy and the Bunny clubs. He has in one way or another touched so many people with his image of life and woman and how it spun off the start of Playgirl. May he rest in peace! So did Playboy have any affect on your life growing up? First place I fell in love with Asian Woman. Thanks Hef! Sound Off, Did Playboy have any affect on you growing up?

Ugh, the damned DNC is leaving unsolicited messages on my telephone, urging me to vote for that crackpot Obama. I've had to erase like 6 messages so far off my phone. What a bunch of blowhard a-holes. What makes these dizzy-asses think I want to listen to their CRAP? I should call back with *69 and see if I can get ahold of a real moron over there and cuss them out.

I'm looking for a Firebird / Trans Am ad that came out between 1982-1985. I saved a picture of it on my computer a long time ago but can't find it anymore. It was a night pic with the Trans Am's parking lights on and a girl standing next to it with lots of fog. Does anyone have it / know where to find it?

Finally made it to Yellowstone this past weekend when my parents came out to visit. I should go more often - the west entrance is only 2 hours away. Picasa photo page link - LOTS more photos than shown below Some highlights: DAY 1: First buffalo sighting: First hot spring we came to: Beautiful blue pool: Bubblin' mud: Old faithful (not spewing) to the right, and all the other towers of steam rising from the same little valley. DAY 2: It snowed overnight, and was supposed to snow during the day, but we decided to risk it, which turned out great. Nice scene just after the waterfall: Nice path back to another set of hot springs: One of many elk he…
