Well, I guess they have trained killer whales perform all over the world, but handling them or training them is something that gets a "no thanks." I will say the same about sky-diving..."no thanks." What happened today at Sea World was very sad. Even sadder was the fact that spectators had to watch it. This whale was a problem, having done this sort of thing many years ago...they should have put him on a ship and sent him back to the waters of Puget Sound or the Inside Package. Story here Did this stun you as well? Do you think they should stop having these exhibits? Not having a killer whale show wouldn't be a deal breaker. Most famous world aquariums don't hav…

So when was the last time you saw the Blue Angels fly or Hydroplane boats race? This weekend, Seattle is having their Annual Hydroplane boat races on Lake washington and the Blue Angels show Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Temps are to be in the low to mid 80's with about 20% humidity. http://www.seafair.com/default.aspx?SecID=915 The blue angels are doing their practice runs right now so Seattle is a Sonic Boom zone. Having grown up here in Washington, I cannot ever imagen summer without the boat races and the blue angels. I loved the roar of the piston powered Hydroplane boats, Have gotten used to the Turbine powered boats, but still enjoy the morning heats when the pi…

I don't want this to become a political thread. I'm posting this because I don't like the whole "selling my '63 Impala so I can buy a Prius" aspect of it. First of all, who in their right mind would sell a pristine '63 Impala and replace it with a Prius? Second of all, by depicting the domestic car as old and outdated, a candidate for replacement by a shiny new import, they are dissing the entire domestic auto industry. It is a subliminal message that really pisses me off. At the very least, they show the Impala with its loving, attentive new owner later in the piece, but by that point, the damage is done. Am I overreacting?

I have always loved the 2-door Tahoes and Yukons but searching for them online is a hassle. They always slip between the cracks in any search and I end up entering every configuration of 2-door Tahoe(Yukon) as in 2dr Tahoe, 2-door Tahoe, Tahoe 2-door, etc. or sifting through thousands of 4-doors just to find a handful of 2-door listings. What a PITA! So, if you run across any let me know.

so i'm wondering how popular everyone is... and how much these search engines actually search... I've been under newbiewar for over 10 years now, so i decided to search myself... Google 4310 results Yahoo 8360 results MSN 631 results i was frightened at how some of these went back... found a mess i started back on priusonline.com in 2006, found some really old 2pac fan pages from like 8-9 years ago... of course cheers and gears, and youtube was the major cause for my results... i think my videos are on every language video posting sites possible... yikes, i noticed i'm up to 1.25 million views on one of my youtube videos....

As some of you may have read, I'm looking to purchase a newer (not necessarily brand new) car within the near future (say... by the new year). I was looking at '08+ Saab 9-3s, but I took one for a test drive today. Beautiful car inside and out, sufficient power, and it seemed to handle pretty good. However, it just felt like a car. It didn't give me any type of special feeling, it was just a ride. I want more than that.. something that I get into and it just feels special. The Camaro SS I drove a few weeks ago felt more "special," but it still had a terrible feeling interior and wasn't as amazing as I had expected. My friend's S2000, however, had a very appropriate feel t…

I'm looking for a possible replacement for the Roadmaster. If you recall, it isn't actually mine. I go on ebay and place check marks for "Wagon" "Manual transmission" "4cylinder" "5cylinder" (gotta remember the volvos.... The most interesting entries are: Ford Escort L Wagon Diesel Ford Pinto Wagon complete with porthole window in back 1971 Datsun 510 Wagon Dodge Omni GLSH Clone with a Shelby engine from a Daytona Oh sure there's a bunch of Subarus, Saabs, and Volvos.... but I need to drive a car that really makes a statement... you know... like a quad color 1996 Roadmaster Wagon does....

" Finding Long Lost Friends " READ THE COMPLETE ARTICLE HERE: http://www.motorgnomes.com/2012/02/finding-long-lost-friends/ """ Walking home from 5th grade the Friday of Labor Day weekend 1984 I was on a bit of a high. We were, after all, about to embark on a special trip north to see relatives in Minnesota. However, as I rounded the corner of the old Gromer's Supermarket store [the building of which is now gone, in favor of a new fire station; I suppose SOME progress is good], my mood dropped considerably, as I didn't see "my" 1976 Monte Carlo ... anywhere…

You guys are likely not going to have info on this... but I have to ask anyway... Many of my toys from the '70s (Stretch Monster, Ding-a-Lings, Girder and Panel) have gotten serious websearches to understand why they came about. Sometime in the '70s, I got my only actual pedal car. My neighbor likely grabbed it from the trash around 1974/75 since it was already fairly broken when I got it and my father threw it into the trash around 1980 because even though I had long outgrew it, I preferred wheeling around in it as opposed to riding a proper bike. Yeah, I was a strange, car-crazy child. I've been trying to find info on the pedal cars of the '70s, but everything come…

Hello All, So since there is no generic section in the 2012 autoshow section, I am posting my pictures here allong with my take of the autoshow. First off let me start by saying the Seattle Autoshow is about 1/3 smaller than it has been in the past. It was really a shock to see almost no 3rd party auto vendors or alternative nicnack vendors. I arrived excited to check out 2 auto's I was told by local dealers would be there. Honda CNG Civic GX and a GM Bi-Fuel CNG truck. Sadly both were a no show. Course I was hoping to stand around and do free selling of the auto's while handing out business cards for CNG appliances for home fueling. None of it happened. New to the Sea…

SEATTLE - Officially, it’s the South Lake Union Streetcar. But in the neighborhood where the new line runs, it’s called the South Lake Union Trolley — or, the S.L.U.T. At Kapow! Coffee, a shop in the old Cascade neighborhood, 100 T-shirts bearing the words “Ride the S.L.U.T.” sold out in days, and another 100 are on order. “We’re welcoming the S.L.U.T. into the neighborhood,” said Jerry Johnson, 29, a part-time barista. Some claim — incorrectly, according to representatives of Vulcan Inc., the company that is developing the area — that South Lake Union Trolley was the original name and that it was changed when officials belatedly realized the acronym. The $50.5 millio…

There is one for sale nearby. It looks like its all origional. From some time warp, just pushed out of storage. Its origional paint, origional interior. It does have some lower rust, not real bad at all. Cant speak for the undercarriage which must also be rusty. The interior is great except for the drivers back. Seat bottom looked great. Its licenced and inspected since July so apparently the brakes and all is working, so maybe the underneath is not too bad ? I just looked quickly at it from the outside and have not talked to anyone. I have a feeling its been in a barn or something, covered up because the old paint just looks like old paint, not trashed. The price is…

Sorry to say that I will not be visiting the site for about a week. Tomorrow night we're flying to Orlando for a 5-day vacation to DisneyWorld. Pray that the rain predicted for the East Coast doesn't ruin my 1 year-old's first trip to Disney I'll be thinking of the site while I'm gone - wondering what I'm missing. But on the flip side I will be going on the GM Test Track ride as much as possible ( )and will probably spend quite a bit of money in its gift shop before I leave. Can't wait to see what GM has on display there (I'm praying the new 2007 Sierra is there). Take care folks and see you in about a week!

Well, it's time to roll up the sleeves, scout out the few places I've identified I would live and go look for a job (since I finished this night time degree just before the summer). Monday, I leave for Atlanta and Florida via plane. If I get the vibe and it's a go, I was thinking of taking my car down first (since that's the diciest) and then move myself down and job hunt (can't do that from Portland). Ok, so, what about the car...my Regal 3800 coupe some of you like to rag on? At 238,000 miles, I'm thinking of bringing her, or actually, having her cart my ass down to Atlanta. New stuff (within the last year to 6 months): all brakes, all tires, all struts, spark plug…

Gentlemen; I will be going on a self imposed exile from C and G for 3 or 4 months, this time for real. No one here has done anything wrong, but I want you all to know what I am doing, as I consider everyone here pretty much a friend and someone I respect. My wife deserves to have this Complete, and I am in the home stretch. My sons friend Brian has taken up woodworking with me, and he is building guitars almost competently with and tools from scratch. he is very talented…

I'm still keyed up on adrenalin as I type this. Around 2:30 this morning I heard a commotion outside my house. Next thing I know, I hear a couple of bangs and the sound of a sliding door opening. I stayed quiet, got out of bed and peered out my bedroom door. Some old dude was IN MY HOUSE! I don't know if he was drunk or what, but I watched him try to stash some boxes under my tree. I figure he must have stolen them from somewhere. It was dark, but I could tell he was overweight, unshaven and wearing red and white pajamas. As quiet as I could so as not to be detected, I grabbed a nearby machete, flung on the light switch, and started swinging that machete like a he…

We'll we have the start of the labor day weekend and I just realized nothing has been posted about auto's people have seen. Today I had some good views, we will start off with a car I loved, but did not fit in very well. Cadillac Station Wagon, especially loved them in V edition. Start off with seeing an old GMC pickup that some members will love, forgot as I do not think I have seen the GMC person post in a while who loved all things GMC. Saw my first in the wild Ioniq 5, love the layout, dash and it looks very roomy inside, the center arm rest is bigger than in my SS.

Took a drive along the Lake Erie coastline through various small towns out to the Marblehead Peninsula to see the lighthouse...stormy weather, 60 degrees but looked more like a November storm at sea. Didn't see too many interesting cars, but one that I noticed in particular was a '71 Chevelle--pale yellow w/ a black vinyl top--was going slowly on a street in Sandusky and making horrible grinding sounds like the driver was struggling to get it in gear.

It needed whitewalls and some interior work, but appeared rust free. Another favorite was a bright red w/ matching steel wheels '72 Chevy Bel Air 4dr sedan..very clean, appeared rust free also. Keep in mind that my tastes in automotive styling are a bit off-center...I mean, I *liked* the looks of the AMC Pacer for cryin' out loud...but I saw two different vehicles yesterday that struck me as heinously ugly. The first was a current model Nissan Quest. OMG, what a disjointed mishmash of disjointed stylistic crap! The other was a BMW X6. I generally like fastbacks (even on the Honda Crosstour), but the X6 version just looks like excrement to me. Sorry for the crabby old guy bitching session.

Since I graduated high school, I have been on a never ending quest to figure out what I want to do, because of this I have had several different majors(Education, Geology, Art History ((WTF??)), English, Business and Psychology are the highlights) and finally decided to take my education more slowly so I could focus on the big picture. Well, the big picture has finally led me to a path I can see myself following. After I get my Associate degree this coming December I will enroll at either Missouri State University or re-enroll at the University of Missouri-Columbia, regardless of which school I choose, I will major in journalism. And if I do become an automotive jou…

What 7 cars available as either new or very low mileage used cars impress you the most for under 70K? Only rule of this thread is that cars have to be currently available to the general public as new street legal cars that one could buy either new or nearly new for 70K or less. I'm going to give you my 7, then I want to see yours. And any criteria for these cars is fine. If your a hair dresser in San Antonio and you want to nominate 7 versions of the VW Eos because that's what hair dressers in San Antonio drive...fine. Just give me your lists, boys and girls. MINE From most to Least expensive... Porsche Cayman R Corvette Z06 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca Kia Opt…

What would be some nominations for 7 wonders of the automotive world? I'll compile a list from your nominations and we'll have an article about it. You don't need to nominate 7 in total, just something you think should be included on the list. Just picking your favorite cars isn't going to be enough. The vehicle should be historically significant and/or mark a departure in automotive design/technology. I'm going to try to include some from America, Asia, and Europe so we're not so heavily weighted. In any case, when explaining automobiles to some alien race, these 7 vehicles should tell a story about why they are the most important ones in automotive history.

Get's all the hotties... In case a certain C&Ger is still interested, this one is for sale. $36,000, a mere drop in the bucket for an Opera Pimp. I think this one was owned by Huggy Bear. :P

Anyone else ever check to see if they had any registered sex offenders living around them? I did today and guess what? 3 doors down from me, a couple more within 3 miles of me. Yikes. Also, if you ever get really bored and look at all the listings you'll see a lot of creepy old guys and the occasional unnattractive woman. We live in a scary world.

What do you think are the sexiest trucks, SUVs, and crossovers out there on the market today (or coming within the next year)? Only truck I find that's sexy is the '06 Ram SRT-10 (especially in black).. Also, the only SUVs/crossovers I like are the Murano, FX45, and Acadia. These vehicles are awesome, IMO, and the only SUV-type vehicles I like the looks of. (I admit to liking most of the GMX-900s' styling, but they're too big for me)

Finally captured this beast... That's a 2007 Lexus ES350 'Diamond Deluxe Edition' driven by the world's oldest (and poorest-taste) Lexus owner. The best part is what you can't see - portholes. Nope, not generic fender vents either, but the rounded aftermarket Ventiports that you can purchase at your local Buick dealership. Worse yet, he stuck four portholes on each side. Not just a poseur, but a liar as well.

An excerpt from today's San Francisco Chronicle: Ron Patrick is approaching the age of 50, a time when many men begin thinking about minutiae like pensions and second homes and third cars. But Patrick is far more interested in telling you why it is that he has stuck a big jet engine in the back of a prosaic silver Volkswagen. He's standing out in a parking lot, waving his arms with wild enthusiasm, pointing at the car as if he were a 15-year-old who's just had his first ride in a Corvette, his eyes spinning in delight. This car consumes him, he loves the completely outrageous idea behind it, and for a moment, his infectious mood makes you think, gee, anybody could do t…

A man killed Wednesday while apparently involved in a street race in Hercules was a San Francisco sheriff's deputy, a sheriff's department spokeswoman said. Christopher Walker, 23, of Antioch, had worked at the department for two years, most recently providing security at San Francisco General Hospital, according to spokeswoman Eileen Hirst. Before that, he worked at the San Francisco County Jail. According to Hercules police, Walker was racing a red Chevrolet Camaro against another car when he crashed into a light pole on Palm Avenue, between Sycamore Avenue and the state Highway 4 on-ramp, at about 2:30 p.m. The other car, which left the scene of the crash, was d…

We're all on this site because we've been touched by GM one way or another. My question is: How so? Share your experiences with GM here. Only one requirement....keep things family-friendly, mmmkay? I'll get the ball rolling: Some of my GM memories: When we (my sisters and I) would visit my grapdparents in the Bronx for the weekend, we'd either be riding around in a 1973 chocolate-brown Monte Carlo or a 1955 Bel Air hardtop. The Monte was in pristine condition, the Bel Air was much less so having been stolen so many times. For both cars, my grandmother made clear plastic seat covers (think "Everybody Loves Raymond") that you would usually stick…

I'm starting to see some amazingly good deals out there. I haven't been in the stock market for a few years now. The last time I bought in was the bottom of the market crash just after 9-11. I took just a few hundred dollars and was able to turn it into a substantial down payment for my CTS. Highest on my list is CBRE At 70 cents a share, they seem like a great deal. They pay a dividend, they're small cap, and they have a tremendous upside once the real estate market returns.

I just read that this Australian girl was killed a mere 50 feet offshore and that the culprit(s) was/were (a) bull shark(s). This species is actually more aggressive and less discriminant than the great white. It is also more likely to keep coming back at you if you spar with it. Remember the summer of the shark? That was 2001. Before the WTC disaster, the Florida Gulf Coast was hit with a rash of shark attacks. The panhandle was also hard hit this way. In fact, in 1999, I went swimming near Pensacola quite a ways from shore where my feet couldn't touch and it was approaching dusk. I will NEVER do that again. I always think about this danger when I go into the wa…

A couple of years ago, my mother was driving her '05 Cobalt base sedan and constantly complaining about how hard it was to get in and out of it. She became aware of the 3 boxy hatchbacks that were hitting the market... xB, Cube, and Soul. She was enamored, I was bemused. Until I realized that for a little lady of her age (4'11", age 65 at the time), the ease of entry and cabin volume with small footprint, affordability and good fuel mileage might be ideal for her. So after test driving the Cube and Soul (with her in the passenger seat, amusingly), she decided on the Cube for its laid back, rolling living room feel and "unique" looks. The flat seats and soft suspensio…

The economy is really quite that bad. We recycle, and the soda we've bought lately has been from NH, so the cans aren't redeemable. So we just put them in the recycle bin. well trash day comes and the bin has a bunch of non redeemable cans in it. Alter in the day I went to go get the bins and found the cans bin gone. It wasn't windy or anything so I can only assume someone swiped the bin with the cans in it. I mean seriously...you couldn't have just taken the cans out? Now we have to get another bin. Of course, whoever took them well be in for a surprise when they go to redeem them and the machine won't except it.

Visions of things to come in North America? Lawrence J. Speer Automotive News Europe March 17, 2008 06:01 CET PARIS -- CO2 taxes are convincing car buyers across Europe to shift from mid-size and larger vehicles to smaller models with lower emission levels. Industry experts predict the shift will accelerate over the coming years, as most EU member states enact emission-oriented tax regimes to fight climate change. " The market is changing, and we feel the market will continue changing," said Patrick Blain, Renault's executive vice president of sales and marketing. Fourteen of the EU's 27 member states currently tax vehicles based on CO2 emissions, fuel con…

man was washed up on a beach after a terrible shipwreck. Only a sheep and a sheepdog were washed up with him. After looking around, he realized that they were stranded on a deserted island. After being there awhile, he got into the habit of taking his two animal companions to the beach every evening to watch the sunset. One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle - a perfect night for romance. As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it. But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercel…
