Why aren't there any LED headlights being made yet? We have them in interiors, taillights, and turn signals; not as headlights, but they're in concepts. I don't get it.

We took one of these Lifang scooters as a down payment on a JGC and damn if it isn't kick-ass... The most appealing aspect beyond mere kick-assery is the economy. It was 4/5 empty yesterday, I filled it up for $2.15, drove about 35 miles around downtown St. Petersburg and then topped it off for $.75.

1998 Camaro for those of you not in the know. 3.8L "3800 Series II." Automatic Transmission. Every piece of the motor is apart from the other, after a major knocking noise started to occur. This is what we've found: A few worn main bearings A few worn rod bearings One completely torn up rod bearing (looks like a rodent got to it or something) A couple scratched/scarred pistons and connecting rods because of the bearings The "bearing" (or whatever it's called) on the crankshaft for Cylinder One is worn almost flush with the ridge that's supposed to be there The thing that sucks the oil up is totally full of metal shavings and garbage And this is only after 55,000 miles.…

Honestly, at almost 36 (12/23), there's not much I want that we can afford (for example, I'd love new tires and rims and the GM accessories chrome & painted door handles for my '06 Envoy, but can't afford them). But that doesn't mean others here don't have a Christmas wishlist that has realities and/or fantasies. Share them here, if you'd like. FANTASY: I'd love to find either of these trucks parked out in my driveway with a big red bow on it Christmas morning (Santa, are you listening?!?):

I went to see Friday the 13th a few days ago. It was pretty impressive. But I think I liked Jason better as a Zombie because he was more 'supernatural' and didn't need to be human to kill people. You can definitely tell the Texas Chainsaw influence in this movie (The same guy did the Texas Chainsaw remake) Saw The Spirit a while back... Some hot chicks and cool elements, but don't waste your time. The 'mythical' and 'beat cop' elements of this story don't quite mix IMO. maybe they were better in the novel (which I've never read) Now I know why Frank Miller retired after the RoboCop movies (because apparently he can't make a decent movie. First 300, and now this... S…

Let me set the scene for you a bit.... We (My girlfriend and I) live in the mountains of NC when we're not at school; it's very rural. In fact, we actually live up on a mountain that overlooks a valley, while on the back side of us is a national forest, water reservoir and black bear habitat. My neighborhood is basically built in a network of old logging roads (which were cut in when our mountain still housed mica mines) one of which has been widened and paved up to my cluster of 7 houses where the road (meaning paved part) dead ends. My family and I live in one house and my grilfriend and her family have been our next door neighbors for years. (Way before we were an "it…

well after 4 faithful years of service my systemax is getting ready to bite it. it has the computer version of being senile and difficult to wake in the mornings. after 30 min of tinkering i finally got it to pass the boot screen (i think the faulty usb port card had somethin to do with it). the power supply acts funny as well when you turn it off. anyhoo i got this last one from tiger direct which i had heard great things about... my experience with them was less than stellar. ordered a tower and a monitor only to get just a monitor in 2 weeks. waited a week and nothing ever came. called them and the tower i had ordered was discontinued 2 days after the order. actually j…

Basically, ever since The Big Crash that began back in October, I haven't been able to make the kind of money I need to pay 'da bills....and I'm too far behind on my mortgage to keep hoping and hoping that next month will be the month things turn around. I don't have that luxury any more. I made AWESOME money in June, July, August, and even decent money in September. If that trend had continued, I'd probably not be leaving. This is pretty short. As many now know, I just sold my own '95 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham and bought an '08 G6 coupe. This is in addition to mom's '08 Malibu as the 2 new cars of the house. That leaves my brother with his '86 Regal LTD he won't even fathom getting rid of, and dad with both his '92 Roadmaster LTD daily driver and '93 Fleetwood Brougham "spare". As mom went smaller & fuel efficient, and I did the same plus extra cool & fun with the coupe, dad has been searching classifieds DAILY for months trying to find something smaller and more efficient that's also practical to be his beater. Effectively, he thinks, replacing the Fleetwood that just sits …

For her 2nd birthday "Unlce Ross" (XP) got Sofia one of those super cool Hot Wheels Tracks and donated his gently used Hot Wheels cars to her already impressive collection. The two of us goofed around with it for a while but it took her a couple weeks to really get into it and figure out the ins & outs of the high-speed figure-8. I took this photo the other day when I was showing her how to break it down and re-assemble it. Cadillac, Truck, Fish & Puppy are the newest words that she's learned. In that order.

It was weird NOT going to radio station WRMN this past Friday night to host CD Showcase (still looking for sponsors), but at least I wasn't "stuck at home". No, I didn't go on a road trip ... don't even have my older 4 MCs out for the season yet...arg. Instead, I watched my Dad's softball team win on their Opening Night, 12-11. After allowing 5 runs in the top of the 1st, Dad's team scored 2 in the bottom of the first and 5 in the bottom of the 2nd to grab a 7-5 lead. After the visiting team tied it at 7, Dad's team took back the lead, 8-7. But, a 3-run top of the 5th ... all with 2 out, nonetheless ... gave the other team a 10-8 lead. That didn't last long, with Da…

For nearly 30 years, "play ball" on an early-May Friday night in Elgin has signaled the start of another softball season for my Dad's city softball team. Friday night, May 11, was no different. Unfortunately, Dad's team lost 20-5. Elgin Ind/Jake's Pizza started off well enough ... scoring 3 runs after 2 were out in the bottom of the 1st. But, a 6-run 4th and an 11-run 5th for the visitors wiped that away. Meanwhile, for the last few years, "play ball" on an early-May Tuesday night in Elgin has meant the start of the softball season for my brother-in-law's co-ed team. Tuesday night, May 8, they started the season with a 16-1 win. Tempco scored 2 in the 1st, 3 in the…

The sun has unleashed a blast in Earth's direction, and that should cause brighter-than-normal auroral displays this weekend. Skywatchers won't be the only ones monitoring the storm: The folks in charge of power grids and orbiting satellites will also be on guard to make sure the disturbance in the (geomagnetic) force won't be disruptive. Word of today's blast, technically known as a coronal mass ejection or CME, comes via SpaceWeather.com's Tony Phillips. NASA says the outburst sparked an M3.2-class solar flare, as well as a stream of electrically charged particles that is due to interact with Earth's magnetic field on Saturday. "Viewers can be on the lookout for increa…

Something New Under the Sun The Link Cheaper Solar Technology Attracts More Homeowners; Larry Hagman's Tribulations By JIM CARLTON October 4, 2007; Page D1 When Bill and Margaret Oliver decided to take the plunge into solar energy earlier this year, the retired Long Beach, Calif., couple searched for months to find someone who could install 35 newfangled solar panels atop their three-bedroom home. Despite the hassles -- and though the panels cost them $39,000, after government rebates -- the Olivers say they're ecstatic to be escaping power bills that had soared to almost $400 a month. The panels contain a relatively new technology for the home called "phot…

Tonight my friend called me up asking me some car advice. He drives a black 2002 Taurus SES with 65K miles and was offered a great deal on an '04 LeSabre Custom. The LeSabre only has 25K miles and is excellent shape; my honest opinion with him was that if you can get past the stigma these cars had, you'll be getting a larger, more powerful car with an excellent track record for reliability. I told him about the 3800 getting about 29 mpg on the highway, which is more than his Taurus gets. He's also a pretty tall guy (6'9"), and the Taurus is a little cramped for him. When he first called saying he was looking at trading in for a different car, I never expected him to…

If, in your life, there is ever a time when you are in a hurry, in the second story of a house with old, worn out carpet on the stairs, and you feel the need to apply your haste to the speed that you walk down the stairs... don't. Pace yourself and be careful. Otherwise, you may slip and fall. Then, you'd end up with a sore ass, right leg, left arm, and chest. It won't be pleasant. I'm warning you, it won't. You may shake it off, shortly after it happens as you get up and continue doing what you were doing, but the pain/soreness will increase as time goes on. As you wake up the next day, you will wish you had not been in such a hurry for such a silly reason. You say "I ca…

Well about two weeks ago a very reliable source told me some bad news... all department supervisors in my high school have submitted the name of the person with the lowest seniority currently employed (in my department, business education, that would be ME). My source told me this so I don't waste any time trying to find another teaching job (good luck I say). Then today after our faculty meeting we have a meeting with the local union president. My friend teaches a Gifted and Talented program in her school... her student is a 5th grader (approximately 10 years old). He wants to know more about engines. I told her that's a very open-ended question, as there's a HUGE amount of information to know for each thing. What my question is, are there any good websites that might explain engines (starting with basic information, like OHV vs. OHC), but isn't too complicated to understand? Any websites that might have some animation to show the student about engines in motion, for example, pistons and their firing order, valves opening and closing, etc.? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

So the running concept I have for my project involves a lot of facts about japn Inc. in refrnce to their less-than-perfect quality. This is the text I have for the poster so far: There is a Myth that Japanese vehicles are more reliable and superior to American vehicles. Did you know in 2006 Toyota recalled more cars than it sold? Did you know that the new Tundra’s 5.7L V8 has had exploding camshaft issues that result in catastrophic engine failure? Did you know the Tundra is the only pickup not to get a 5-star crash test rating? Or how about Honda’ recall of 2007 Civics because their wheel could potentially fall off? Perhaps Nissan’s recall of it’s 2.5L Altima due …

The BLS releases their state-by-state employment stats today. They release at around this time every month. The news is that 36 states posted unemployment drops and 8 states posted increases. It's going in the right direction. California is STILL over 12%. Here's the link: BLS Labor U.E. by state I interviewed for a different job on Dec. 3, was interviewed again on Dec. 8 and then found out on Dec. 14 that I didn't get it. It took me about 1 hour to get over it. I thought about how geeky and uptight those present at the second interview were, that it may not have been a good long-term fit. It may take a little bit, but things ought to get better.

In the news i was watching a story that was in St. Cloud. And they were talking about the "Gas Bank". Have you heard of it and what is it about? Or no anyone that belongs to it.

C&D needs to hire some new editors; this blurb from the "news" section is just terrible: Awesomeness? And something tells me they wouldn't have said the same about a Toyota being shot behind the barn.

Alright, I'm quite serious about wanting to buy that BMW 318ti. My parent's aren't turned off by it, either. However, I need to find a way how... I talked to my Grandpa about co-signing a loan for me, but he thinks I have to be 18. I know I have to be 18 to get a loan, but what if I have a co-signer? Do I? Even to with someone to co-sign? That and and the other issue is insuring and registering it. First off, would I be able to register it at my age? If I can, would the car be able to be on my parents insurance plan, although registered under my name? Anyways... would I be better off just to convince my parents to just get the loan, but I'll pay it? Any help is appr…

The world is not for you Tell me what's your point of view Hey there, mister madman watcha know that I don't know Tell me some crazy stories, let me know who runs this show Glassy-eyed and laughing, he turns and walks away Tell me what made you that way Here I am just waiting for a sign All my life I knew that it was mine It's always here, It's always there It's just love and miracles out of nowhere Tell me now dear mother, what's it like to be so old Children grown and leaving, seems the world is growing cold …

Insurance industry test points to weak side structures in some cars WASHINGTON - Some sport utility vehicles don’t provide the protection in a side crash that one might expect from such large vehicles, according to tests released Thursday by the insurance industry. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave marginal scores in side-impact tests of 2008 versions of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee and two SUVs built by Nissan Motor Co. — the Pathfinder and Xterra without optional side air bags. In similar side testing, the Toyota 4Runner and Pathfinder and Xterra models equipped with side air bags received top marks of good in the side testing. The For…

The girl I'm dating is a software consultant like me. She's just started a new placement, and is very nervous about it, wanting to be sharp for work each day. I've gotten her to come to my place for dinner during the week, and to go out for dinner a couple of times. I asked her to go to a karaoke place tonight - and I know she likes these places, she's told me this, so that's not the issue. I can't seem to convince her to go anywhere. I'm not sure if you can really built a relationship if you can only see the person on the weekend. Is there anything I can do? Suggestions for better things to do that will have her home early? Am I being paranoid and should just let it …

Okay, so like, I was really bored last night (and the BF was watching his Brazilian soaps on the big TV - yechhh. If you think American soaps are bad, try watching them on Globo - well, okay, the hotties are hotter on those shows, but anyway, I digress.) So, I am in the den, puttering around on the computer and switch to YouTube. After laughing my ass off at the Sarah Pollin skit on SNL, I hunt for old car commercials and take in a dozen or so old Chrysler commercials ("Your Next Car...,") etc, then I see all these videos posted of different folks showing off their old beasties. Ah, a cornacopia of old cars in action. When what to my horrified eyes should appe…

OK, I was logged onto AOL for a few hours on Sunday, not using it, just leaving it connected while I watched TV. Damned if the thing didn't have to reconnect every few minutes!! I absolutely HATE AOL, I'm dying for a good alternative, pref. not dial up. I'm looking at this SBC/yahoo DSL service that attaches to my phone service, it's only $15/month. I don't know yet if that's just an intro rate, like the first year, then it goes up to the "regular" price. If that's the rate, tho, it's cheaper than my AOL dial-up ($25), and it has to be better, right? I mean, it can't be worse! Ok then, i…

Doesn't get much more intentional looking than this. The shape of a door edge is pretty easy to see in the impression and it's obviously too deep to be an "oops" tap.

I know a lot of people ar in to trading cars but it never occured to me that somebody would try to trade for my car. As many of you know I'm trying to sell my 2005 mustang gt (girlfriend can't drive stick blah blah blah we've all heard it.) somebody decided to suggest trading their white on tan 2004 BMW 325 auto 4 door. It only has 39k miles to my 72k and looks to be in mint condition. Soooo tempting. The two biggest things holding me back was I was planning on getting a 5-6 grand jeep that could old us over for 1.5 to 2 years and then I would get my new mustang while using the rest of the money to pay off the credit card I wrote a check off of to buy the mustang. If…

The following was taken from a banner at a website. It clearly shows that the Cobain-Suicide humor has either reached a twisted zenith or an all-time high. Possibly both.

Thats a Yukon GT. I dont think I've ever seen one with barn doors in person. Its too bad they put those unfortunate taillights. And in the top pic, you can see the reflection of my Buick's triumphant return to being a kayak bitch.

All right, so I'm cruising around tonight in the truck, blowing off some steam after being at work and leaving from the hospital visiting the little girl and wife in while the little girl cooks for a little while under the lights (she has Jaundice). I'm on the interstate, cruising at about 65, relatively light traffic. A StumpJumper (Ford Crown Victoria with 24" + wheels on it so it now has 2-ft ground clearance) blows past me like I'm sitting still. I decide to follow him to see where the fire is, crank down on the pedal, throw it into 2nd and listen to the quad exhaust pipes thunder (if only I'd finally done the flame thrower kit for the pipes it woulda been a hell o…

there was an "article" saying that the price of oil is dropping because the dollar is gaining strength to the Canadian dollar. makes sense since canada is the biggest % of where we get our imported oil from. just info for thought. "article" as in on the net, and i can't find the link at the moment.

Saturn designs, circa 1985. Raise your hand if you didn't know about the minivan. And they thought that it didn't look like a J-Car ... And I understand that they gave a revision of that design you see above to Isuzu. Not sure if that's true, though.

whats up everyone, just thought id share my instrument panel ive been working on for a while... in my nova i got tired of the boring gas guage/ speedo combo, you know, the looooong horizontal speedo..... i had an oil/water/volt and a small tach under the dash but it got pretty annoying any cluttered. It seemed my only option was the Covans dash, witch i didnt like the look/fitment of at all. since my cluster was pretty beat, i started with another i got off ebay from a 74 apollo..(i dig the wood panel stickers/fasten seat belt light) The "chrome" outlines were kinda trashed so i wound up repainting the whole bezel with VHT interior paint, you can see it well later Th…

* WORD MATH: Not having enough energy + drugs = too much thinking time My energy level is starting to increase (as evidenced by a 3-day stretch where I had 2 days of "Nephew Time" and 1 day "out" at my Aunt/Uncle's house for the midday hours), so I can HOPEFULLY get a few things done soon, before I go to work in about a month. Which also means ... less "online" time. It's not good to wonder "what if" OR torture oneself with "if I only knew then what I know now" OR consider what you might do given a "do over" chance. Yet, sometimes the mind just wanders to those ... and it's hard to stop it, particularly when the drugs are doing most of the talking. I don't have any…
