Dodge is doing something that can be considered as sacrilegious in the muscle car class. They are adding an all-wheel drive version of the Challenger to their lineup. The 2017 Challenger GT will go on sale early next year with a base price of $34,990 (includes $1,095 destination charge). The all-wheel drive system that the Challenger will use is the same one found in the Charger AWD - power is sent to the rear wheels until slip is detected, at which point the front axle will hook up to the transfer case and get power. For the longest time, we've been hearing about a new car that would be replacing the dreadful Dodge Caliber. Today, Dodge revealed the replacement. Another day and another Challenger variant has been revealed. This time it is the 2018 Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody. The Widebody features the wide front fenders and splitter found on the Demon. According to the contact, the current Viper will end production in 2017 and leave the Conner Avenue assembly plant in Detroit without a vehicle to take its place. As I scour for articles on the next version of the Charger, I can't seem to keep the timeline of what has been said in order. I'll see an article that says it will be on a version of the Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform modified and tuned for the new Charger. Then, I'll see an article with the late Marchionne saying it will be on a highly modified version of the current chassis that will perform very differently. (I interpret that as "better"). The Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat models have become a big seller for the brand. Dodge brand head Tim Kuniskis tells Automotive News they have received 9,000 orders for both models, double the amount the company was expecting to sell. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is one of the wildest vehicles ever to go on sale. Because of this, Dodge is having all of the buyers sign an acknowledgment form to know what they are getting themselves into. Chrysler has announced the next Viper will be returning home when production begins late next year. The Viper's home is the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit where it was built from 1995 to 2010. Since production of Viper ended, Conner Avenue has sat idle. Chrysler says the reopening of Conner Avenue Assembly will bring back 150 jobs. Former employees will have first dibs on the positions before other hourly employees can apply for them. Instead of taking the kid to play today we went to the Kia Dodge Chevy dealer to sit in some cars. Weird combo of brands, but it made it convenient for one stop. Anyhow, what was nice was they had a new 011 Caravan, Journey, and Durango in the showroom. So I got to sit inside and look around a little. Kid was acting up so I didn't get to poke and prod too much. But still it was easy to see that there were some nice improvements. The Durango was the first one. Automotive News reports that Chrysler is being sued by Scat Enterprises Inc., for infringing on their 50-year-old 'Scat' trademark. Dodge upped the ante in the muscle car wars with the introduction of the Hellcat V8 for the Challenger. The Supercharged 6.2L V8 makes 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, which means you'll have no trouble with burning the rear tires.
