Chrysler's EVs are for real When Chrysler rolled out three electric vehicle prototypes a couple of weeks ago most EV experts were skeptical. They were even more skeptical when the company claimed that it would have an EV on sale by 2010. Wait a minute, everyone wondered, how could Chrysler have caught up with GM, Nissan and other automakers who have been working on EV's for a lot longer? Well, to hear Chrysler tell it, it's not behind at all. It is the first major automaker to actually allow members of the media and dealers to drive its production-intent EV's. The company claims it's been working on EV's for at least two and a half years-or about the same time as the …

While the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee wowed the crowds in New York, what lies beneath could be a key to Chrysler's recovery. The new 3.6-liter V6, called Pentastar after the company's five-pointed-star logo, replaces seven – count 'em, seven – of Chrysler's aging engines, and stands as the outcome of several years of development. The all-aluminum DOHC Pentastar V6, as applied in the new Jeep, offers a 33% increase in power and 11% improvement in the torque department over the engine it replaces, for a husky 280 horsepower and 260 lb-ft -- all while returning 11% better fuel economy and helping Chrysler trim its overall, range-wide CAFE emissions by two miles per gallon by …

Chrysler's Hidden Coffers Dan Gerstein, 12.10.08, 12:01 AM EST Link to Article Why is Cerberus, one of the world's richest private equity firms, begging for a bailout? When I wrote about the bailout blunders of the auto industry two weeks ago, I thought the Big Three had most likely topped out on the political outrage meter. But that was before the shady story of Cerberus, the uber-connected private equity firm that owns Chrysler, reared its three ugly heads over the weekend. Buried on the business page of The New York Times Saturday were the details of Detroit's biggest snow job yet--literally as well as figuratively. Turns out that Cerberus CEO John Snow, who …

Chrysler's Large Cars Getting Diesel And Hybrid Options William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 18, 2011 Chrysler hasn't been shy with offering diesels for the US. Back in the mid to late 2000's, Chrysler offered versions of the Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee with a diesel. And they still aren't shy to offer them once more. Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says the company will once again offer diesel powerplants for their larger vehicles. The first vehicle to lead the charge will be the Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2013. In its November 2009 five-year plan, Chrysler said 14% of it's global sales will be diesel, an increase from 8% in 2009…

After 9 years, Chrysler restores pentastar logo The Chrysler pentastar is back with a new look. Chrysler dusted the star off after nine years in mothballs during the automaker's marriage to Germany's Daimler-Benz. The symbol represents 85 years of Chrysler history and returns as the automaker embarks on a new chapter. The updated version encloses the five-pointed star. It will be used as a corporate logo but not in product ads or at dealerships.

Chryslers last Hurrah? Hellcat 300? Autoblog, a news source you can love and hate and question, but is this late breaking story valid? Does it have teeth? Autoblog is reporting a possible Hellcat 300 might be in the works. Based on the pictures, I would say it is hard to say other than this has that traditional 3-4 inches of tire sticking out, brembo breaks so it might be true but then where the pictures are taken makes one wonder if this is just a personal pet project. http://www.autoblog.com/2017/05/18/chrysler-may-be-testing-a-hellcat-300/?hcid=hp-tile-small-4 So what are your thoughts? Is chrysler going out with a big bang?

Chryslers pile up Company pushes excess cars on wary dealers Brett Clanton and Josee Valcourt / The Detroit News DETROIT -- You may have seen them and thought little about them. But those huge parking areas throughout Metro Detroit filled with row after row of brand-new Chryslers, Dodges and Jeeps have become a source of friction between DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group and some of its dealers -- and a symbol of just how hard the automaker is pushing to maintain its sales momentum. In lots at Detroit Metro Airport, the Michigan State Fairgrounds, the Pontiac Silverdome and other locations, Chrysler has stockpiled new vehicles -- many of them loaded with expensive …

I've been doing tons of research...and it seems that the compass is getting really positive reviews from consumers. The only common issue is a rear blindspot... It's odd because people here have been mocking it... Well I'm in defense of the compass. It's a pretty competant vehicle for its price. Also the new patriot is even better...and cheaper. "I test-drove the rav 4 V6 in direct comparison, and liked the compass much better - at thousands less!" "I LOVE my Jeep Compass!!! Everything I ever wanted in a vehicle. I had a 2003 Jeep Liberty that I also loved but wanted something more, like a car and of course I found it in another Jeep product." "I just bought…

Compass Advertising Still as Bad as Ever The gang of Hip Hop-thumping bobbleheads that cruised town in television spots for the new Jeep Compass last summer are no more. They've been replaced by City Man, a figure created from street signs and scrapped urban parts with a penchant for surfing and yoga. The new print and television ad campaign, dubbed "Urban Playground," is aimed at young, urban buyers. A television spot -- showing a Jeep Compass zipping through urban streets, creating a swirl of wind that amasses urban fixtures to create City Man, began airing nationwide on Jan. 15. The 30-second spot showed up on the Web site, YouTube.com, on Friday. "Urban Playgrou…

Right from the firehouse... The small, youthful, capable and fun 2007 Jeep ® Compass can carry a lot of things, but it won't have to tote the baggage of sticker shock. The Compass rolls into showrooms in the third quarter of this year. Thursday morning, Joe Eberhardt, Chrysler Group Executive Vice President, Global Sales, Marketing and Service, took questions from reporters at the Whistle Stop Cafe in Birmingham, Mich., a Detroit suburb. AutoBlog Link Chrysler has released sketches today of three eco-minded concepts it will be unveiling at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show in January, and the first we'll tell you about is the Chrysler ecoVoyager Concept. The ecoVoyager Concept appears to be a series hybrid, much like the Chevy Volt or Ford Airstream Concept, that uses a lithium-ion battery pack for jaunts of 40 miles or less and a hydrogen fuel-cell range extender to reach distances up to 300 miles away. Power is expected to be in the range of 200 kW total, which Chrysler claims is good for reach 60 mph in around eight seconds. The exterior features an extreme cab forward design creating an arch profile with f…

Latino rights promoter and famous over acter Ricardo Montalban playing along with Chrysler's not-from-Corinth Corinthian leather. If you think this is just some funny random old car ad, it had a serious, lasting effect on people. Baby Boomers loved the commercial and clearly bought the message. I feel we can learn much from the history of some amazing commercials and what might just be missing from getting people back into transportation. Quality is there, excitement is there, now we just need to find the right message to click for people driving again.

WHISPERS: Chrysler Crossfire Production May Be Cut by as Much as Two-Thirds Date posted: 02-01-2006 FRANKFURT — A German newspaper is reporting that Wilhelm Karmann, the company that makes the Chrysler Crossfire for DaimlerChrysler, plans to cut jobs as part of a two-thirds reduction in Crossfire production. A DaimlerChrysler spokesman in Germany, quoted by the Dow Jones News Service, denied the report, calling it "an extremely pessimistic forecast that we don't accept." Nevertheless, the spokesman did acknowledge that some reduction in Crossfire production will take place. The Crossfire went into production in 2003, and it is intended to have a five-year life cycl…

Bradford Wernle Automotive News November 26, 2008 - 10:42 am ET UPDATED: 11/26/08 12:24 p.m. EST Daimler AG says Cerberus Capital Management LP is making new and "exaggerated demands" that have hampered Daimler's effort to sell its 19.9 percent stake in Chrysler Holding LLC to the private equity firm. Daimler issued a statement today charging that "demands by Cerberus exceed the value of Cerberus' investment in Chrysler." Daimler sold 80.1 percent of Chrysler Holding to Cerberus in August 2007. That money went into the Chrysler business. "The claims made now go beyond the framework of the contractually agreed possible obligations," the Daimler statement sai…

Chrysler Group needs more production space — and it’s getting it. DaimlerChrysler AG is moving to cash in on its momentum in North America to create some space between Chrysler Group and its traditional rivals - the troubled General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. The Chrysler Group is expected to announce officially today that it plans to build the production version of the Dodge Nitro concept on the same assembly line in Toledo, Ohio, now used to build the Jeep Liberty. The announcement will underscore how deft the Chrysler Group has become during the past couple of years at spinning off new variants of its most popular vehicles. While the Nitro will us…

DCX Considering Chrysler Group Sale? DaimlerChrysler reported third quarter earnings today of $686 million in net profit, but its Chrysler Group division dragged down that profit margin by posting a loss of $1.47 billion, a figure that completely erased the gain of $1.24 billion made by Mercedes-Benz. During a presentation today, DaimlerChrysler CFO Bodo Uebber didn't rule out the possibility that the Chrysler Group could be sold off. While far from saying the division has a For Sale on its windshield, Uebber told reporters, "We don't exclude anything here... We will do our analysis. Second, we will talk about measures. Dodge engineers have begun testing their four-door spin-off of the next Chrysler Sebring. Whether it will be called Stratus or Avenger is a subject of speculation, but there is no doubt that it takes its design inspiration from the Dodge Charger. Although the resemblance to its Sebring platform-mate is clear, the Dodge gets a distinct front fascia, a unique C-pillar design and - judging from the camouflage on the rear fender and door - a Charger-style rear fender arch. The prototype's taillights are also finished almost identically to those on the Charger. When viewed in profile, the new Dodge has a more formal rear window slope compared to the Sebring, which features a …

The United States isn't the only place the Dodge Caliber is selling like hot cakes. According to a report by Automotive News Europe, the Caliber is enjoying a great deal of success in many European markets, with many customers now facing six-month waiting lists. "We underestimated demand for the product," Chrysler's Thomas Hausch told the trade publication. So far, the car has been on the market for three months overseas. Sales thus far have totaled 3,238 Calibers in western Europe. In 2005, Dodge sold 311 vehicles in total in the same market. The vehicles are selling "without any incentives," a major dealer in Paris said.

The information about the Caliber just keeps pouring out of the Dodge website, it's making me want the vehicle more and more. The model that I built on the website came to a total of 17,500 which is 2.5k less than the vehicles I want (Mazda 3s hatchback, Chevrolet HHR 2LT). Not a bad deal. So has anyone heard anything as far as the release dates, actual size comparisons, interior pictures?? I've heard from some people that it's actually a little smaller than the Neon which is kinda hard to believe.

Since someone posted about the MB lighting question, I have a Dodge one. Last week I was on Sunrise Highway and saw a Calibur signaling. I was in the left lane doing a conservative, well, I was going faster. When I passed it, I noticed it's headlight was flashing as a directional. I thought it was very odd. Then later I saw it changing lanes again and the other headlight was acting as a directional. It was during the day, and I wondered if it had something to do with it being more visible using daytime running headlamps. Is it just a freak of nature electrical problem or does someone know if it's supposed to do that?

The Ford Mustang has been a dominant force in the sales department well before the last generation Chevy Camaro rode off into the sunset. That changed last month. Ford's iconic pony car has been outsold by the Dodge Challenger by 293 units in February, as the Dodge coupe racked up 3,283 sales during a very challenging month. The Challenger's February victory could be a sign of things to come for the Mustang, as the Blue Oval's most recognizable vehicle is set to get bombarded with more competition coming from the 2010 Camaro. The Camaro, which goes into regular production on March 16, already has over 10,000 pre-orders on the books. The Mustang won't be left for dead, t…

I went to a factory sponsored Ride and Drive Event today for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. It was like 2 miles from my house, so I'm like, 'sure'. Since I was able to check out a lot of the Chrysler Corp models and sit in them and drive them (albeit in very short low speed courses), it sure shaped some of my opinions on their products. It would be hard to satisfy the forum gods and get it all in one post so I will try to keep my initial posts to this one and two more and then if anyone has comments.

One of the weakest points of the base V6-equipped Dodge Challenger SE has been the transmission. Chrysler saddled the SE with the old four-speed automatic instead of the Mercedes designed five-speed used in the V8 models. Chrysler used the occasion of an LX owners meet this weekend to debut a new SE Rallye edition that finally gives the V6 the extra ratio it needs. The Rallye also gets hood and decklid stripes, and five spoke 18-inch wheels. Hopefully Chrysler tightens up the suspension a bit to eliminate some of the floatiness of the SE. The SE Rallye will reportedly run $26,490 after production starts next month. Autoblog

DETROIT -- Today Dodge will show a face-lifted 2007 Durango that goes on sale in August. Engineers also have prepped the SUV for a hybrid engine that will be offered in the 2008 model year. The reworked 2007 model will be shown at the Dallas Auto Show on Wednesday. The fascia, grille, hood, headlamps, fenders and wheels are redone. Ten features are being added, including an electronic stability program, tire pressure monitoring system, rear park assist and a one-touch lane-change signal, Dodge says. Durango sales are off 39.4 percent to 20,090 units in the first quarter of 2006, compared with the same period a year ago. Continued at Dodge gives Durango a face-lift, …

Dodge Hornet gets the go-ahead Link to Original Article @ AutoCar Chrysler will shortly announce that it is going ahead with the launch of its Dodge Hornet supermini, which it will develop in collaboration with Chinese company Chery. The car could be revealed in close-to-production guise at this autumn’s Frankfurt motor show. The Hornet was first shown as a concept at the Geneva motor show in 2006, where it was widely admired for its tough-looking style. Chrysler plans to enter the crowded European supermini segment with the one range, resisting the temptation to launch a Chrysler-branded version alongside, as it has done with the Mondeo-class Dodge Avenger and Chry…

Well, my CV axle boot was torn on my 500 (not sure why) but they scheduled the service but didn't have the part. So, I got a loaner for a day. Enterprise dude picked me up in a Mazda6 but I made sure to do anything in my power to not get that steaming pile of turd hot carl to take home. So I asked and got the Magnum. I could have got a Grand Prix (should have) and the damn Kia Sedona got back in the lot just as I signed the papers Anyways, I'll try and sum it up tomorrow after I turn it in. It's a 4 speed v6. I'm gonna read Bob's 300 review too and see if there are any similarities. One thing I can say with certainly is that the interior is ABYSMAL. Terrible. G…

I visited the Iowa State Fair this year, and at the tent of the Local Dooge dealer they had a pre-production Nitro. The gentleman I asked about it said "There are only 4, this was shipped here from Detroit!" I don't know about that, but here it is: Looks pretty nice in person

Head over to Jalopnik for some spy photos of a Nitro SRT8. Chrysler can't seriously be thinking of bringing an SRT8-badged Dodge Nitro to market, can they? Well, if this latest batch of spy photos from the spy shooters at KGP are right, then they are. But they can't be! Seriously. It's inconceivable. We don't care where they found this manufacturer-plated madness (right outside of the Firehouse in downtown Detroit) or what it has slapped on the back (an SRT8 badge), but it's hard to argue with photographic evidence. We'll assume it's an engineer having a little bit of fun or perhaps another media outlet playing around with the cameras. Because seriously -- it's got to b…

Dodge Ram Recall Repair Parts Rare The big truck of the company that tells you to "grab life by the horns" has currently been grabbed by the balls by a lack of parts to repair them. More than 140,000 2006 Dodge Ram 1500s are under recall because of front and passenger-side air bags and seat belts that might not function properly with child safety seats. Chrysler notified dealers about the recall Sept. 6. The automaker plans to tell vehicle owners in October, when it has enough replacement parts stocked up to do repairs. Dealers said they've received air bag replacement parts but are waiting for seatbelt parts. Read "Dealers lacking Ram repair parts" @ Detroit Free …

http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103446 $17,000 or so to start-aluminum wheels better be standard, along with that 2.4. for that price-a 1.8-liter I-4 just won't cut it regardless of whether or not it has 130hp-this isn't Europe, and they should've learned something from Chevy with the 2.2-liter HHR models. Have fun losing sales Dodge without a real compact car.

STUTTGART — Spy photographs suggest DaimlerChrysler's Dodge subsidiary may be working on a hot-rod version of its forthcoming Nitro SUV, perhaps a model from the Chrysler Group's high-performance SRT brand. But Dodge executives are still evaluating the possibility of such a model and say it's too early to make a decision. A Dodge spokeswoman told Inside Line, "I can't imagine" the company would do a Nitro SRT. The base-model Nitro will come out next year as a 2007 model. Although recent reports have said the Nitro will go into production in about a year, a different Dodge spokeswoman told Inside Line that production could come sooner. She added, "I would think [the pro…

Reuters Story DETROIT (Reuters) - Chrysler LLC has drawn interest from international and North American parties for the possible sale of its high-performance Dodge Viper sports car line, Vice Chairman and President Jim Press told reporters on Wednesday. Chrysler in late August announced it was exploring the sale of the Viper sports car business as part of its effort to generate cash and ride out the deepening U.S. auto industry downturn. The Viper is a low-volume V10-powered sports car first produced in 1992. "We have been approached by outside individuals who want to work with us to buy the asset and sustain Viper going forward," Press told reporters after an Au…

Dodge Avenger Concept Makes Bold, Powerful Style Statement Paris, Sep 20, 2006 - Dodge is looking to spin the global D-segment with the all-new Dodge Avenger concept — a bold, styling statement that does away with the idea that a functional mid-size car is automatically boring. Avenger’s Dodge branded styling makes a definite statement in the D-segment, commanding attention and evoking attributes that define the Dodge brand: bold, powerful, capable and street smart. This Avenger concept, finished in a striking Inferno Red, will appeal to car buyers around the world who need the practicality, functionality and fuel efficiency of a mid-size sedan, but want more, incl…

Chery's U.S. car likely to cost $10,000 Analysts call initial quote of $7,000 too low Link to Original Article @ Detroit Free Press Chrysler is unlikely to roll out a $7,000 car when it brings the first Chery-made American-brand small car to the U.S. market in 2009, U.S. industry analysts said Thursday. Rather than hit the streets with an extremely cheap set of wheels, Chrysler and Chery will more likely beef up the Chery A1 to about $10,000 with features and content expected by American consumers. Shortly after the Chinese government gave the OK to a deal between the two automakers, Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda said his company would begin selling cars made by Chery Aut…

Dodge's original Li'l Red Express trucks are now in their early 30s, and even building a clone will be an exercise in rust mitigation and parts scavenging. By the time you're done, you'll have spent enough to buy a brand new Ram. Mopar high-performance icon Mr. Norm's is doing what Chrysler can't currently manage, reviving the spirit of the original with a fully modern Red XPress Truck, using the excellent new Ram as a basis. The name has been tweaked and there's no fat-fendered bed, but the general idea is the same. 1978 Dodge Li'L Red ExpressChrysler's 5.7-liter Hemi is the standard fitment, and with 390 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, it makes a good argumen…

Link to source Don't give DaimlerChrysler a Pass The financial press has mostly given a pass to DaimlerChrysler, thanks to booming sales in the U.S. of its Mercedes line. But that can't cover the woeful state of its overall business. By Robert Walberg Investors shouldn't be so generous. Thanks to 10 consecutive months of record-breaking sales of Mercedes in the U.S., with year-to-date figures up 13.9%, DaimlerChrysler has avoided the focus on restructuring at General Motors and Ford. Unfortunately, not even this growth rate is sufficient to offset the growing woes at Chrysler. Looking for answers Declining sales and bloated inventory have management and investors…

I'm far from the first to get the keys to a Chrysler 200. I also don't think I'm the first to be pleasantly surprised at this car. Sure, it's not the greatest mid-sized car on the market today but it's amazing the kind of lemonade they made out of the lemon rinds that was the last generation Chrysler Sebring sedan. I liked the car. I liked its styling. I liked the interior. I liked how it drove. Did I say it's so much better than the Sebring? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3082

Drove a co-worker's Charger R/T today. Great looking car outside. Great looking inside. Nice room. Fantastic power. . Don't know if it was the tires or what, but I noticed quite a bit of road noise coming in the cabin on the highway.....seemed odd. The interior materials were suprisingly nice. The wife and I rented a Chrysler 300 a couple of years ago and the interior was REALLY cheap on it. I was real disappointed, so it was a nice suprise to see the interior on the Charger seem classy. My buddy said he's getting close to 20 MPG combined city/hwy. Not too shabby for a HEMI, but he only has 1250 miles on the clock. Within the next year or so, I need to buy …

Early Look: Chrysler Nassau, Jeep Trailhawk Concepts From LeftLaneNews: "DaimlerChrysler today released official sketches of the forthcoming Jeep Trailhawk and Chrysler Nassau concepts. Both vehicles will be on display at the Detroit auto show in January. The Chrysler Nassau concept is a four-door, four-passenger luxury coupe — effectively a counterpart to sister brand Mercedes' CLS-Class four-door coupe. The exterior design 'leans toward an exploration as to what could be a future sedan in the brand's lineup,' the company says. Meanwhile, the Jeep Trailhawk 'merges the spectrum of the Jeep brand by combining the core features of the Jeep Wrangler with the sophistic…

Edmunds Drives the Compass It should be noted as a general rule, I try to find the best picture of a car to use when I post a news entry. This was quite a task with the Compass because it is in my opinion, the worst-looking SUV since the Aztek (yes, it has dethroned the X3). This is about the only image where the thing doesn't look completely pug-fugly. I could wax lyrical about the Compass' looks all day but of course, you clicked this thread to read Edmunds' take on it, not mine. So without further rambling, here you go: Read "First Drive: 2007 Jeep Compass" @ Edmunds Damn, what an ugly car...
