Yes, I'm calling attention to this because it's becoming almost comical reading some of these reviews. If you've followed auto reviews long enough, you know that GM is chasing a moving target. Reviewers used to dash domestic vehicles for having less quality, then it was durability, then it was fuel economy, then it was noise and vibration, and then it was fit-and-finish/panel gaps. It then moved onto quality of interior materials and the latest sticking point appears to be number of forward gears. So, let's get it on record: what's everyone's opinion on the next great domestic "deficiency" for the auto-reviewers to harp on? I've already seen reviews bashing a GM ve…

Once my toys are gone I'll be needing something other than my Silverado to drive. I'm leaning toward a wagon (dog transporter) but I'd like it to be fun in one way or another. So, wrack your brains and post your suggestions (with a pic if possible) No, 68, that doesn't mean an entire catalog-just one pic. :AH-HA_wink: Remember, I have dial-up. Have fun with this thread, but be serious once in a while too. Jokes allowed but real suggestions appreciated. Now go to it C&G!

This last weekend I went shoping with daughter #4 for her first new car. Like most people in her postion (and mine) money is important. My plan was to get a Chevy Cobalt LS with automatic transmission utilizing the almost $3000 GM card rebate. The test drive was ok, perhaps a lttile underwhelming to me. My daughter didn't like it all saying that it seemed like a rental car. I have no idea where she learned that expression. Things got worse as the nice, industrious young man who was helping us (3.5 weeks on the job) introduced us to his sales manager. Oh my God! What an obnoxious slimey, iley character he was. Slight of build and full of the strangest facial expres…

Just an observation. At time of writing this, 14 out of 69 posts today were GM focused. I'm just throwing this out there: Is C&G becoming more a general automotive interest(and much not related to anything automotive) forum rather than a GM 'cheers and gears' forum? Was it always this way? Does it matter? ( And for the record, I'm as 'guilty' as anyone else).

Now the Challenger! I saw it on the homepage. This is getting out of hand. Have auto designers lost their creativity to the point that they have to re-release such literal translations of old classics? Granted, the Camaro is the best looking of the lot. But the Mustang, the TBird and the Challenger? Way too similar. Heck, the Mustang's dash is an almost direct rip-off. I said NO. We need some fresh pony car designs.

Has anyone noticed the proliferation of round, red taillights on vehicles these days? No matter the outward shape of the lens, the lit part is increasingly the same on so many vehicles nowadays. Everything from a Hyundai Elantra to a Chrysler 300 has these same, round illuminations when seen at night. BORING!

The Mark Twain - It only comes in white and a lot of kids are forced to like it, but have no idea why. Now this goes against the grain.... ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A Russian astronomer has predicted that Earth will experience a "mini Ice Age" in the middle of this century, caused by low solar activity. Khabibullo Abdusamatov of the Pulkovo Astronomic Observatory in St. Petersburg said Monday that temperatures will begin falling six or seven years from now, when global warming caused by increased solar activity in the 20th century reaches its peak, RIA Novosti reported. Scientist predicts 'mini Ice Age' Those crazy Russians.

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's best-selling newspaper has launched a competition to find the best cartoon about the Holocaust in retaliation for the publication in many European countries of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad. The Brussels-based Conference of European Rabbis (CER) denounced the idea and urged the Muslim world to do likewise. The daily paper Hamshahri said the contest was designed to test the boundaries of free speech -- the reason given by many European newspapers for publishing the cartoons of the Prophet. "A serious question for Muslims ... is this: 'does Western free speech allow working on issues like America and Israel's crimes or an incident like the…

... didn't even have to use my A.K. Okay seriously. We stopped by at Marcia's Grandmother's house and when we were leaving Sofia blew a kiss to Gram in that cute two-year-old-angel kind of way. Gram said she reminded her of the girl (back in the day) who used to blow a kiss at the end of some variety show right after she sang the "See the USA in your Chevrolet". Call me crazy but that made my day. Gram & Gramps (who is now in a home due to his Altzheimer's ) have owned several cars from Chevrolet over the years. As a matter of fact Gram says besides the 1996 Grand Marquis and two late 50s Plymouths they always had Chevrolets. Several Biscaynes/Impalas and then a…

Five months ago this time, all we saw was Katrina aftermath footage. It was pretty grim. Most sickening was the dead guy in his lawn chair near the Superdome as well as the things that reportedly took place inside the Superdome. Now, we don't see much about it. In about a month, Mardi Gras will be around. People ask the question as to whether they should rebuild. I say "absolutely." I've been to some places but I have never been to N.O. because every time I was driving through on 10 back to LA, I had too much stuff in the car and did not want to invite "curiosity." New Orleans is an important city. At the mouth of the Mississippi, its harbor handles more cargo tha…

Seems like this is a common problem with the newer GM cars. I find it relatively difficult to park my G6, compared to my Cavalier. I suppose it's mostly because it's a larger car, but the rear seems to be "on the high side", and it takes longer for me to make sure there's no car in my blind spot and no one behind. I'm always freaked out that I might hit the cars next to me when backing in. Other cases: - MPH complained about the rear visibility on the G6 coupe in their video Q&A - Gone through MSN autos in the user review section of the Cobalt, people who have one love it, but complains about blind spot visibility. Anybody have the same trouble?

I grew up in this kaleidoscopic multi-ethnic city, so my friend's parents, people in high school/college and neighbors provided fuel for the fire. Here's my list: Cuban - this is Ricky Ricardo talk, this is NOT a Mexican accent. I love it. It's my favorite. Iranian-Middle Eastern - perfected from LA experiences - make damn sure you leave out articles in front of nouns whenever possible. I once asked this Middle Eastern guy at a party where he was from. His response: "I leev een Bay Area." I had meant which country he came from, but that's ok. I can't drive through Concord on 680 without muttering that to myself. Southern - it's great and it can be so affected. …

Somebody is suing ipod, alleging that the product is inherently defective because if used as intended it can cause permanent hearing loss. If you don't care about your hearing read no further. Otherwise, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if one spends all day with an amplified source blaring high sound levels into the ear (or ears) from a headset, audiophile headphones, bluetooth, etc. that will cause gradual, permanent hearing loss. Add that to all the other noise everybody is subjected to. Think it over.

Today balthazar is happy because today my brother, a good buddy and myself reinstalled the body of my '59 back on it's beefy boxed frame!! So good to have my pride & joy back in only 1 garage bay! No problems to report, no mishaps, only 1 of the 16 bodyshell mounts requiring a bit of prying to align. All new rubber bushings & bolts/washers. Body has 2x3 steel tubing inside the rockers: much like another set of frame rails. This baby is going to be stiff! Even with no weight on it, she sure sits pretty on those 315/60-15 rears. For her 2nd birthday "Unlce Ross" (XP) got Sofia one of those super cool Hot Wheels Tracks and donated his gently used Hot Wheels cars to her already impressive collection. The two of us goofed around with it for a while but it took her a couple weeks to really get into it and figure out the ins & outs of the high-speed figure-8. I took this photo the other day when I was showing her how to break it down and re-assemble it. Cadillac, Truck, Fish & Puppy are the newest words that she's learned. In that order.

Well, when the dealership changed out the spark plugs when we first got the GTO, they drove it around for a minute to make sure everything was okay. Anyways, they said the instrument cluster glitched while they were driving it, so they ordered us a new one and said they'd call us when it came in. We noticed that when the GTO is just sitting at a stoplight or in park it idles a little rough (just a slight shake every few seconds, nothing too major). So, when my dad brought it to the dealership he asked them to see if they could figure out why it did that (they said it wasn't normal). It turns out the guy before me put in a performance camshaft and some lightweight pullies …

So, its Friday at 4:30PM and its been raining since, oh, say, 10:00PM on Thursday. Visibility is less than a mile and the sky is still pouring torrents of rain. You come upon an intersection that is flooded out with perhaps two and a half feet of water. You're driving a Toyota Celica. Do you... A) Go as far around it as you can. B ) Stop, wait for the flood to subside. C) Stop, make a U-turn, seek an alternate route. D) Drive right through it because, hey, if the National Guard 6x6 in front if you made it, you can too! Features LS7 V8- MARKETING: V8? You know what those things cost? ENGINEERING: Yeah, but they improve performance. MARKETING: Hm. (takes pinch of cocaine from his snuff box) Tell you what: we'll have three models and only put this V8 one on the high-end SS (snorts). The base one will come with an Ecotec. What is the big deal about this cartoon? Are Muslims just a little too sensitive? Go to Iran or any Muslim country and you will see anti-American and anti-Christian depictions on walls and publicly funded murals desecrating the American flag. How is this any worse? Why is there so much outrage over this cartoon? Shouldn't the Muslim world be fixing their own behavior instead of trying to limit our freedom of expression? I say the Muslim outrage is nothing more than hypocrisy.

This is so absurd! http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=84428 I guess it hit like $15,000,000 and the winner was a deadbeat so now it's been relisted. (there's a shocker ) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...mMakeTrack=true

I was sittin there in my econ class and I hear this guy sitting next to me talkin to his friend about his friend's new car purchase. The guy bought a Cobalt SS. Sweet, he said he loves it. Then the guy sitting next to me mentions that he got a new car too. Guess what car it was? He said it was a SUPERCHARGED REGAL! I was like whoa!!! I asked him if it was a GN and he said no, but it was a 99 GS. I said sweet choice, to which he replied that its a great car, very fast, etc. That put a smile on my face, hearing young kids actually buying some GM products and knowing that they are actually pretty nice.

Almost a year ago, I found myself without a job. 2 months later, I started working again ... at a call center job that I just do not like, which may be causing, or at the very least, making my continued abdominal pains worse. Thus, I've been looking for a new job for a couple months, but have not found anything in particular...yet. So, knowing that "they say" the best jobs are found networking ... wondered who all here might be interested in forming a "networking" group of sorts ... and, no it doesn't have to be all about jobs. It could be networking for anything . If you're interested, let me know..... Cort, "Mr MC" / "Mr Road Trip", 32swm/pig valve/pacemaker MC:f…

I'd like to think I speak "standard broadcast English" (no accent, clean pronunciation) so certain expressions bug me: Low end: Irregardless - actually, it's now an accepted word, though it shouldn't be Mid-range: He or she (singular) is "good people" - that is asinine Drum roll: Across pronounced "acrost." Where the f*** is there a "t" at the end? I never heard this in So Cal but I have heard it in Nor Cal and the Pac NW. I am wondering if it is an importation from the Donner Party days when people from the interior were migrating out West and it was handed down through the generations. Any expressions or word construction that bug you?

like for example.... "No Particular Place To Go" Ridin' along in my automobile My baby beside me at the wheel I stole a kiss at the turn of a mile My curiosity runnin' wild Cruisin' and playin' the radio With no particular place to go. Ridin' along in my automobile I'm anxious to tell her the way I feel, So I told her softly and sincere, And she leaned and whispered in my ear Cuddlin' more and drivin' slow, With no particular place to go. No particular place to go, So we parked way out on the Kokomo The night was young and the moon was bold So we both decided to take a stroll Can you imagine the way I felt? I couldn't unfasten her safet…

Red Wings are winning 4-0 with less than a minute to go IN THE FIRST PERIOD! Camaro's not supposed to get watered down by clinics once ok'd for production. Goodbye, Mustang. Goodbye, DCX. Goodbye, imports. 5th Gen Camaro is going to be mine. Two questions: Z28 or SS? Metallic baby blue with white stripes or metallic orange with white stripes? I'm looking for a new phone on ebay. I wonder if Cingular would let me buy a new phone and just throw my old SIM card in it? I'm looking at the Motorola V557. Anybody have one? I'm looking into a turbo kit for the 3800, but I have a feeling I'm going to spend no less than three grand on one. I have $1100 saved right now, but…

Exxon Sees Record Profits for Any U.S. Co. By STEVE QUINN AP Business Writer DALLAS Exxon Mobil Corp. posted record profits for any U.S. company on Monday -- $10.71 billion for the fourth quarter and $36.13 billion for the year -- as the world's biggest publicly traded oil company benefited from high oil and gas prices and demand for refined products. The results exceeded Wall Street expectations and Exxon shares rose nearly 3 percent in morning trading. The company's earnings amounted to $1.71 per share for the October- December quarter, up 27 percent from $8.42 billion, or $1.30 per share, in the year ago quarter. Hypothetical~ You take your best friend to look at your girlfriend's uncle's car- it's for sale. You don't know the uncle very well, but your buddy likes this brand and this particular car. After some talk & tirekicking, the Uncle tells him the price is $500. Friend accepts and pays him by counting out ten $50s. As the uncle shakes his & your hand, he discreetly palms you one of the $50 bills. Do you pocket the $50 or give it to your friend?

Ever since the Saturn Ion made its debut, I've always seen the 1991 Chevy Cavalier Sedan in every exterior styling element of the car. (Well, except for the side scallop and the wheels on the Ion.) Anyone else see it?

Okay people... I'm tired of the Malibu already. I usually lease, however the wife talked me into financing. I've had the car 26 months already (on a 60-month payment loan). I know I'll probaly not be happy when dealing with trade-in values, but I want to get back into leasing and want a new car other than the Malibu. Going to the Philly Auto Show next weekend witht he wife to find out what might possibly be the next vehicle. So I'm going to make this fun and ask all of you C&Gers what I should get, or at least look into. Here are my guidelines: 1. Must be a GM vehicle 2. Must be a four door (hey, I have an 11 y-o and a 6 month old!) 3. Must be something th…

This is a thread for random Google searches. Why? because I'm bored and happy. A deadly combination. Why? It just is. But why am I bored and happy? Well, it isn't very active around here at the moment and I made a discovery... Could someone please tell me what comes up if you search for "brookville pa chevy"? Yes, that is the reason for starting this thread. So shoot me... No, really, shoot me, damnit!

...but my girlfriend is. She's 10 weeks along now, which makes me wonder why she waited until 3 weeks ago to tell me. But anyways, she went to the doctor the other day and apparently she had been carrying twins until one of them quit growing at about 9 weeks, the other appears normal and healthy, even if it does look a bit like a blob. But I'm excited and nervous and sometimes flat-out scared. But overall hooray for me!

I work with a guy who holds the high mileage claim in our office. He has a 90 Camry 4 cyl with 242,000 miles....original. Not far behind, I have my 92 Regal 3800 coupe with 221,000 miles. We are the only 2 in the 200,000 mile club. At any rate, I rode in his car to a job site last week. What a piece of crap. I thought Camries were supposed to ride smoothly, quietly and be well put together. Not this Camry...noisy engine, unremarkable ride and the usual assortment of squeaks and rattles. In short, my Regal runs circles around this car in how quiet and smooth it is. I got out of his car thinking how glad I am to drive an American vehicle.

Yes... it's this again. I'm bored and I've had newfound inspiration in searching for another car. I just wanted to throw out a few possibilities to see what you guys think. These would only be examples... unless you can come up with an idea for how I could get instant money? Robbing banks not included. Car #1 Car #2 Car #3 Car #4 Car #5 Car #6 Car #7 Car #8 Car #9 Car #10 Car #11 Um... yeah, there might be more but my PC is acting up. I'm bored, so... there's why I did this.
