So if anyone watched the last episode of Jersey Shore you see the Guido's drive away in their respective cars. I put a clip below from Youtube and I was wondering if we could figure out what cars they are. Pauly at 7:46 drives away in a Caddy CTs 1997 I belive. I believe we could nail down the year by the Mettalic green paint. And Vinny I think own the best ride with a Cobolt SS. Also I think thier are better clips avaible on Youtube than the one I included below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6qQ5mYDC9Y&feature=related

Sunday, January 24th, 2010. I spent the entire day planted in front of this computer, watching YouTube clips featuring the story of 2 characters from the British TV show "Shameless". 111 clips in all I watched, starting Saturday night, ranging in size from 1:30 to about 9 minutes long. I'm addicted. It's the craziest show ever and I love it. The new season starts tomorrow, so I hope the next installment makes it to the Tube asap! Oh and then there's "Emmerdale", another British serial, and who can forget "Eastenders". I'm rather into both of those shows as well. Of course my first British TV love is "Keeping Up Appearances", I watch that every Saturday night on Pu…

Got boned for $1,000. The rear right tire of the BMW had a small leak so I took it to Discount Tires. While inspecting the tires, the store personnel saw a 12-inch gash in the interior wall of the front left tire going into the steel reinforcement. I have no idea how that happened. The Bridgestone run flat that came with the car was $389 per tire, and the GoodYear F1 All Season was $201 per tire, so I decided to replace both fronts since, I hated the ride of the run flats anyways. Plus GoodYears come with 25,000 miles warranty. Yay for Z-rated tires I guess! I went for lunch while they replaced the front tires and fixed the rear right. The guy calls me saying you need t…

Paul: I couldn't believe this. I was walking into Trader Joe's to buy yogurt and saw this. In California, no less. So I scrambled back to my car to get my disposable camera I keep around. Do you folks have Trader Joe's out East? Ok, hope you will have a great birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Okay, so here's the deal. My father and I have been watching NHRA drag racing on television for about as long as I can remember. I was over his house tonight and we were watching a short half-hour show that featured a few old races from a national event in the early 80's. After the show was over, my father started saying how cool it would be if he were able to buy old races on DVD. So when I got home, I searched for such DVDs online and, just as I suspected, there was virtually nothing to be found. So now it's up to me to find them in whatever format they may be in and put them on DVD. So for any of you fans out there that remember the days of TNN, American Sports Cavalca…

Classics ones, that is. I've always liked the classic vans (grew up around vans), and there has been a few driving around here lately.... I'm, actually pondering the idea of a classic van....something my whole family could enjoy. I'm thinking late 60s- early 80s. Any ideas? Good websites you know of?

Title says it all, this one's about all things coffee. Since it won't let me add a 4th poll.. Regular or Decaf? What's your favorite flavors of coffee? How often do you drink it? Black Coffee? Add Milk? Add Cream? Sugar? How much? I love coffee, and since we got one of those Keurig single cup coffee makers I can actually enjoy coffee a lot more often, and have been able to try out a much wider variety of brands and flavors than ever before. It makes some of the best coffee I've ever had, and does it right every time (plus no wasted coffee and no mess, and it's fast). I don't like instant coffee that much, Dunkin Donuts never makes it right, I've …

So I'm coming back from the mines last night at 1h30 in the morning. I press open the garage door opener, turn the car into the garage, think "this is gonna be tight" (the car is not the MINI but an old VW Passat company car) and suddenly this scratching sound....... rear left fender scratched at the wheel well area... an expensive trip this will be, and what pisses me off is that it's the same f@#king turn I do every single day when I get home...

Five of the nine Supreme Court justices voted to overturn a 1937 ruling that limited corporate funding of political campaigns. This makes me very nervous. We have upended 60 years of campaign finance rules and have done a 180 back to the robber baron era of politics. Not only will this affect the national level, it could affect state and local level as well. Imagine the local Wal-Mart funding the election of a small town mayor if he promises to provide incentives and upgraded roads for a new store, or a major employer backing a candidate for governor if he promises to relax regulation. And not only that, but the more money you have, the more negative media you ca…

Don't laugh ...... It is all true! Perks of reaching 50 Or being over 60 And heading towards 70! 1. Kidnappers are not very interested in you. 2. In a hostage situation, you are likely to be the released first. 3. No one expects you to run ... anywhere. 4. People call at 9 PM and ask, 'Did I wake you?' 5. People no longer view you as a Hypochondriac. 6. There is nothing left to learn "the hard way". 7. Things you buy now .... won't wear out. 8. You can eat Supper at 4 PM. 9. I learned on January 14th that Ford has pulled our Lincoln-Mercury franchise as part of its consolidation effort to sell all its products together at one dealership. The owner of our dealership has told us that our store will go on selling used cars, and that all departments, except for new cars of course, will proceed as usual. FoMoCo apparently paid a handsome sum to buy us out of the franchise. So everything's up in the air at the moment. Just one more reason for me not to sleep at night. Our used car department has been going like gangbusters since a new manager was hired several months ago. His team was able to sell 80 cars last month, with a goal to reach and …

The Story: A good friend of mine that I have gotten to know over the past six years is car shopping and in need a of a midsize sedan. He has done some "window" shopping and currently has considered a Altima, Accord, Camry, and Malibu. He says the Camry is the front runner and certainly I hope to change that. This friend has no loyalty to any brand his past two cars have been Accord EX-L's and would prefer something different. He has not driven any of them yet and has an open mind but has been reading consumer reports... Not good... This person trusts me and am going to need ever bit of fire power to sway him away from a Camry and hopefully to a Malibu. Any idea's to hel…

whats up everyone, just thought id share my instrument panel ive been working on for a while... in my nova i got tired of the boring gas guage/ speedo combo, you know, the looooong horizontal speedo..... i had an oil/water/volt and a small tach under the dash but it got pretty annoying any cluttered. It seemed my only option was the Covans dash, witch i didnt like the look/fitment of at all. since my cluster was pretty beat, i started with another i got off ebay from a 74 apollo..(i dig the wood panel stickers/fasten seat belt light) The "chrome" outlines were kinda trashed so i wound up repainting the whole bezel with VHT interior paint, you can see it well later Th…

As I've been tearing down the Golf this past week, I've found that my garage is quite inefficient for the work I'm doing. With winter temperatures, it's difficult to heat up. That entirely ancient iron wood furnace is slow to start. Just as much smoke will pour out around the door as the chimney. The first hour is spent tending to the fire as you keep the garage doors open to prevent the smoke from smothering you. Once its going strong, you close the doors, revealing a slight crack at the top of each. Another hour later, the garage will finally begin to heat up a few degrees above freezing. Without insulation and those cracked doors, that's basically all you can manag…

Although is it a very old video, I thought maybe we could have some fun with this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSLBtm__aKw Now the YouTube video is of lower quality (that's hard to manage) than the original which is hosted at TruTV's website. Last year, I posed these queries: What do YOU consider to be "should see" areas/places in your home state? What would you tell travelers to check out, if they have the time, as they drive through your state? What "obscure" and "out of the way" places in your home state come to mind? In August, I posted the answers received. Since then, I've received additional suggestions. Below is the newest compilation of answers ... which may prove that you find another part of yourself in every state. This is not a "complete" list and may not be 100% accurate; however, it is an excellent start to planning a vacation or road trip...ENJOY! ALABAMA Battleship Alabama Huntsville…

Lets start with the Cobalt. Around the time I got the Cobalt last January I noted that there was this loud annoying rattle coming from the steering column when driving over rough road surface. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole steering column stating that there was a design defect with the steering column where there was excessive backlash in the electric steering gears causing the noise. They replace it, noise goes away. Heaven only knows for what reason but almost a year later the noise is back. I understand that GM is suing the supplier over the defect, but it's a pain in the ass. Also the front door panels on the Cobalt are making this annoying c…

I checked out the MSN web page today and got a more realistic account of the earthquake in Haiti, with its magnitude of 7.0. First, I was not aware that there was such a change in potential seismic activity from Florida (essentially nil) to a relatively nearby Caribbean island. Regardless, the amount of devastation is mind-boggling. I was sitting there thinking about how I bitch and moan about what isn't right while people out there are trying to survive in the most deplorable conditions. I plan to keep the Haitian earthquake victims in my prayers and will also make a small donation via one of the Catholic charities. I know that the Masses typically pass around anoth…

So I was in the store today and came across a 4-pack of something called Virgil's Micro Brewed Root Beer. Looked at the ingredients label and say: Purified Carbonated Water, unbleached cane sugar, caramelized unrefined cane sugar, herbs, spices, and citric acid. Contains no preservatives and no caffeine. Gluten free. Saw on the other side of the label, "Virgil's is a superb blend of Spices and Herbs gathered from around the world over; Anise, Licorice, Vanilla (Bourbon), Cinnamon, Clove, Wintergreen, Sweet Birch, Molasses, Nutmeg, Pimento Berry Oil, Balsam Oil and Oil of Cassia. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... every evening this week I've tried to get in to the gym. But the parking lot is full to capacity, with 4 or 5 cars blocking the aisles, following people to their cars so they can grab their spots. It's this way every January since I joined there a few years ago. By next month, I predict all will be normal again, and the couch potatoes will plant themselves once more. Sigh.

I tend to visit manufacturers' websites quite often to gather facts about their cars and such. I'm sure most of your also do. Most of the time I am using my work computer, which has a mediocre business DSL Internet connection. I notice that some sites load fast while others load like slugs. I did this test about a year ago and decided I'd try it again. I timed each manufacturer's website load time using Internet Explorer 7, deleting the cache between each timing. I repeated the timing at least twice for the major manufacturers, and overall times were very consistent. The first number is the time it takes before the vehicle selector is available, since this is the most im…

Read the 5 topics that came up when searching for 'digital camera'. Being the Thriftyosaurus that I am, I am finally ready to replace my 10-yr old Canon 2.1 MP digital. I'm trying to write a novel...just for kicks. It has an automotive theme, and this is the chapter I introduce the firebird. Main Charactor is a 17 year old boy named Carl. It had only been too easy for the bird to kill its prey. Fishing with dynamite, really. And she wasn’t even a real bird. She was a Pontiac Formula Firehawk, One of the last ones off of the line and one of the fastest ones Pontiac had built. Men who work around machines will tell you that if you take a hundred identical machines, 4 or 5 won’t work all that well at all. Lemons some call them. I took my mother to see it yesterday at her request, and I must say, even with the heavy-handed message(s) and well-worn love story angle, it was beautifully done. We saw it in 2-D, and I'd go back to see it in 3-D, wow, what a way to light up the screen.

Some vehicles just have that urban feel. Slick and sophisticated, a person would be downright scared to drive them on a dirt road, much less buy one if you live beyond the suburbs. Other cars, meanwhile, just have that country air about them, they speak plainly to their prospective buyers that they can hold up when the blacktop ends. Post your city car/country car picks here, if you so desire. Here's two to get started: City car: Chevrolet Equinox Country car: Jeep Liberty

Hey Guys, I am new to this forum and throught I would try to contribute. If anyone is looking for reapir manuals, owner manuals or service manuals for virtually any type of car, there is a FREE ebook at the address below. I asked him could I download and share it, but he said he prefers to have people come to the website. The site itself isn't the best, Sometimes there are annoying ads and surveys. The ebook is only a couple of pages, but it gives a list of places online where you can find almost any service and repair manuals, even for very old models and trucks. I would highly recommend to download it and keep it on your computer. Website - http://ebook-files.info…

We finally got our first real snow of the year, a whopping 4 inches. But since this is Missouri, it might as well be eleven feet, these people are absolute morons on the road. Saw a guy in a Silverado do a complete 360 upon exiting a gas station. Did I mention its only snow? Dry snow at that? I ran up the street in Tiny and didn't have a problem, even with the huge wall of snow the city kindly left at the bottom of the driveway. Now I think we're going to take the old, 9.5' kayak out and use it as a sled.

Hmmm, I think it's finally time to add an SUV to the fleet..... Since I have 3 GM compacts, I'm thinking it would be nice to have a bigger truck to do the stuff that my cars cannot. Like taking a vacation with a toddler. Or trips to Lowe's/Sam's club/Home Depot and such. It's pretty much going to be an extra car, not daily driven (though not for long if my wife likes it) So, It needs to be dependible and cheap. I really don't want a car payment, though I would be okay with a small one for a little while. I've considered the cute ute's (Vue, Nox, Escape) Though I'm thinking more toward the larger Suvs. Solid trucks with no resale value. My likes so far. 98-01 Chevy Ta…

Yes, it's frigid out. But that doesn't mean we have to endure a shrinkage of cool car spottings. What have you seen out there? Post it!

It was a tumultuous year all around. The year started with the inauguration of a new President who represented hope and change, though not much has been delivered yet. The Great Recession took hold of the country in the aftermath of the financial meltdown of the previous year. Unemployment remains high and afflicts several members of C&G. During the year, the self-proclaimed King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died. Also lost were Walter Cronkite, screechy pitchman Billy Mays, Farrah Fawcett, Patrick Swayze, and Ted Kennedy. Jon and Kate were overexposed. From South Carolina came a new meaning for “hiking the Appalachian Trail” thanks to its governor and a new politi…

I'm having the strangest problem with my e-mail, here are the symptoms: - e-mails from friends and family are not showing up at all - I can't get emails through Outlook, but can access my acct through the provider's server - My own test e-mails to myself go through (but not to outlook) - a test e-mail from my provider goes through (but not to Outlook) - Now, here's the strange one. I responded to an e-mail about the jag on Craigslist and the responses from that person make me think scam. But, their e-mails go through to the provider's server! Has my e-mail been hijacked?!!

Insured and re-registered the Grand Marquis Monday, got a battery for it today. Duralast Gold. It was about 20 degrees and it hadn't been started or taken around the block in at least a month. It was 22 degrees. Fired right up, took it for a 10 mile drive through traffic, back roads, and some highway. Works like a champ. Next week it's getting a "new" transmission.

If you have the same publication that I got this trivia from, please sit this one out. Tom and Ray looked forward to Xmas visits from Aunt Bertha. She always gave them the same present; two pairs of hand-knitted wool socks. Just before Christmas, 1951, they learned Aunt Bertha would not be coming. A few days later she passed away. The official cause of death was very common in 1951, but Aunt Bertha may have been it's last victim. After that year, no one died of this particular affliction. What was it?

Do any of you guys and gals own/use a radar detector? I just decided to treat myself to a late xmas gift and got this I found it on sale on another site for $279 with free shipping, so thats a savings of $190. According to tracking it should arrive today and I'm pretty excited about it. I'm not as much of a speeder as I used to be, but still having peace of mind when I do decide to cruise at 80 on the highway is always nice

Hi all, After gauging the intrest on my 05 mustang GT and with some of my end of the year improvments to my finances I have decided to deffinetly go ahead and sell my car. I will be clear between 4000-6500 selling it via a private sale after paying off the ballance of the loan. I have an additional 3000 in savings that I can put twards a new car. I will be getting a late 90's early 2000s Jeep in the price range of 5-6k. I don't drive very much anymore and neither does my girlfriend milage wise but we both travel on the weekends and a jeep would be a lot more practical for our active lifestyles, plus right now I have to park on the street and while I can drive my mus…

On rt252 not far from my place. Somehow a BMW X5 ended-up being 90 degrees out from the roadway with its nose up a 45 degree embankment after a collision with a Ford Explorer and possibly another car. The X5 was entirely off of the road with its nose against a tree. Must have been something to see happen, the physics of it all puzzle me. Be safe everyone.

** 2010 is just around the corner ... already?! ** Holy cow ... it's hard to believe that 10 YEARS ago people were wondering if the change from 1999 to 2000 would disrupt life as we know it...! Yet, here we are ... on the brink of "Twenty Ten". Plenty has changed, but some things remain the same. Life is rapidly moving forward ... despite the turmoils and triumphs we've experienced and witnessed ... some of which seem ages ago, others like just yesterday. Here's to 2009 and years prior ... while looking to 2010 and beyond. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! ... with the full-size Blazer and 2-door Tahoe have gotten me wondering. I wonder how long I can tap the used market for the great stuff GM no longer builds - the stuff I actually like. Almost all of those cars are getting difficult to find in pristine, low-mile, condition. The 2-door SUVs are a great example as they never built enough of them for the demand, consequently they have been in short supply from the outset. This has kept prices quite high even for very high-mileage examples. Seems to me, the same will be true for the GTO and other interesting GM cars going forward. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy rehabing the stuff I find, but it would be nice to find something i…

I've been thinking about this question for a little bit, and I haven't come to an obvious answer. The question is this: Why are warranties not an optional extra? Especially on cheap cars. I don't actually know how much a warranty costs, but it must be at least a few hundred dollars on today's reliable autos. A warranty is surely a much higher percentage of the cost of an economy car than a luxo barge, so why is it that very price-conscious consumers have not demanded this? And why have no bargain brands offered it? A warranty is merely an insurance policy on breakdowns; you can always buy one that goes beyond the one provided by the manufacturer. The only possible conclu…

Today I was cleaning the wheels on my car to avoid them getting pitted out from all the salt and sand that have been put on the roads lately, when I noticed dozens of little rust spots all over the side bodywork of the car. I freaked. I had spent so much time over the summer claying and waxing, trying to get it prepared for winter, and there were these tiny pin drop rust spots everywhere. I started running through my mind what could have caused it and decided it was probably all the salt they have been putting on the roads lately. So I took it into the garage and started wiping it down with Fast Wax to remove salt residue and found out it was also removing most of t…

I've been in California since Fri 12/18 to visit family for Christmas. When I went to rental car counter, the agent presented the Camaro upgrade option, so I took it out of curiosity. The choices with gray or red, so I took red (being Christmas and all). It's a V-6 car, pretty basic, but has still generated a fair amount of conversation wherever I've taken it. I've put about 600-700 miles on it so far and will write up driving impressions once I get some free time. Here's a few quick iPhone pics to get you started until I can take some with my real camera. Quick shot of car Backseat shot of my nephew's booster seat before picking him up at daycare in the Camaro …

Did you guys see that article about a study that revealed that DOGS and their associated needs (for example, growing food for them, etc.) cause more pollution than the world's automobiles? I love dogs, they are the most loyal, loving pet a man can have, but this study just highlights how ridiculous the car haters have gotten, and how hypocritical the "climate change OMG" movement really is. woof!

From LX Forums Twas the night before Christmas and caught at the light. Up pulled a rumbling V8, and no cops in sight. I will try, I will try, with this little 4 banger. To beat this damn Magnum, with it's big HEMI motor. As the light goes to green, and I pull like no joke, The Magnum erupts in a big cloud of smoke. "Rev Smasher!, rev Twister!, rev Stroker!, rev Blitzin!." I yelled to the names of my 4 VTEC Pistons. Racing ahead, I'm the star of the action, but I'm in deep ****, when that Magnum gets traction. I grab second gear and the RPMs sing, And my mirror is blocked by my shopping cart wing. I now hear the roar of the big HEMI gaining, All I can do is …

Wow, Christmas is about a day away. Getting ready to go home from work in about 1 hour. Tomorrow will be a casual dress day and I'm sure very little will be accomplished. I'm going to a concert at my friend's church in the evening and then to Midnight Mass since it will only be a few hours after that. Except for being invited to Christmas dinner, I have no travel plans. I'm not able to go up north since I didn't buy air tickets far enough in advance. Regardless, all is well. What are people doing over the holidays? Happy holidays!

A page goes over the PA system at school (work) yesterday afternoon (12/22) for the owner of a black Cadillac to contact the main office. My office is next door, so I walked over to find out what was up. I was told that my boss, the school's principal, hit my car as he was pulling out of his parking space (we were both backed in, my car parked on his right). He claims that he was looking left to make sure no one was coming as he turned the wheel to the right and he clipped the left front corner of my car with his Dodge Ram pickup (the bed in front of his right rear wheel is what caught onto my car). He claims to have hit my car and stopped, backing up as to not block …

I patched up an old friendship just recently. Actually, it was with my best friend from grammar school. We had had a falling out in 2001, and again in 2008. BOTH were about money. For the first falling out, he had asked me to help him sort out some of the financial paperwork after his divorce. He literally handed me a file box in complete disarray. Not only that, he would ask me for small advances, and was never caught up in repayment. Total loss for me: less than $200. For the second falling out, it was about sorting out his child support status. I told him I could only help him recalculate the right balance. He expected me to take his side that he should be a…

Oldsmoboi has talked about Lordstown and other plant tours, etc...do we know a when and where yet? 4. Anyone in Ohio of thereabouts interested in Columbus or Dayton or something and just getting together for Pizza or Chinese or a movie or something fun? 5. Here is an Idea... a lot of guys live way out east. Perhaps we could set a date in Aug or so for a bunch of us to get together? Philly or Long Island or something? Chris

So I've got this guy I know from the TDI Club named Jess that came to our club dinner last night. Jess is into TDI's and Miatas, so we get along pretty well. What's impressive about Jess is his job-he collects eyes from human donors for transplant. Interesting full time job... And Jess's TDI Golf is a quick little car, but it's neither stock nor EPA legal. In fact, given the right conditions (AC, downshift, full throttle) it will create about as much soot as a good coal fired Chinese power plant. Anyhow...one day Jess is out and about in his TDI Golf going to put a set of eyes on ice. He's going about 70 passing a semi going 65 when a nearly new Camry rolls up on h…

I was out running around earlier, finishing up my Xmas shopping (I think, hmmm...). When I turned into my development, I realized it had not been plowed. We've got 7-8 inches of snow so far, and one of the streets is uphill to get back to my house. Starting out in second gear definitely helped me out on the road, but that stuff is DEEP for a Cobalt. The little guy spun and spun, I was in third gear, speedo reading 40 at 2500 RPM, prolly moving 1 mph, but made it up the hill and into my garage. My neighbors were standing out in their driveway, arms outstretched. "How the hell did you make it up that hill? We had to park at the bottom, we couldn't make it!" I just s…

Considering that reverse barely works, I have no plow lights, and there are no coner markers on the plow, Things have gone ok so far. Took an illegal run over to my family's neighborhood to get the first layer off, and I've done this place several times. At the moment we have fairly heavy snow coming down and it is blowing and drifting. Have probably had between 6-8" so far (hard to tell with all of the blowing. Fun,fun, fun. I have a few more hours until the ROPOS turns into a pumpkin due to the lack of plow lights. I'll wait a bit, take care of the dogs, make a Wawa run, and then plow until dark. The morning could be a real challenge, since I can't attack the snow af…
