As I was reading about the death of the Park Ave, it got me to wonder what to do with my beater. Its been a good car. The engine and trans run strong (really shows on its good days) It just seems to have fuel issues. It has no pickup, idles quite rough, pretty bad milage(which could be fixed) Parts looking to be replaced: Fuel leak-tiny-right between back tires. Looks like a gas tank replacement.... As above, looks like a new EGR.... And a new hose connect to the rad...... She's rusty, but not too bad (bottom of doors, rocker panels, bottom of hatch) 13 midwesterm winters will do that to a car... If I do it, I can get help to cut the labor costs dow…

Japan Mulls Legality of N. Korea Strike By MARI YAMAGUCHI AP TOKYO (AP) - Japan said Monday it was considering whether a pre-emptive strike on the North's missile bases would violate its constitution, signaling a hardening stance ahead of a possible U.N. Security Council vote on Tokyo's proposal for sanctions against the regime. Japan was badly rattled by North Korea's missile tests last week, and several government officials openly discussed whether the country ought to take steps to better defend itself, including setting up the legal framework to allow Tokyo to launch a pre-emptive strike against Northern missile sites. "If we accept that there is no other option …

My '59 Buick today burned off most of a tank of gas. At 6:00am I dopped off the two couples at Logan foir their flight to Mexico. At 12:00 I picked up Sofia at the fromer in-laws in Harvard, MA & then at 1:00 we arrived at a Birthday party in Lowell. Then a few hours later at 5:00 I dropped off Sofia in Haverhill with my parents & hit Rt.495 for the 4th time today. All of a sudden I see pink slime... (dexcool) pouring out of the hood seams and my temp. gauge is at a solid "pull the f**k over and shut her off" So apparently that used, rebuilt water pump I just installed was crap. This is partially my fault for taking the gamble with it,…

The ice at the north pole has now melted so much that free passage via water is now available around the northern part of North America. Link The yellow line indicates the route of travel. The cyan line would be a route around the northern part of Europe and Asia. The dotted part indicates where the ice hasn't melted enough yet. Please consider making some life changes to be more resource efficient. You'd be amazed at how much some small, simple changes can really help. It's been a rainy, cool cloudy week here in the desert...nice change from the usual. This afternoon on one block in Scottsdale I saw an eclectic mix of cars parked on and off the street. A battered late model white Bentley Continental GT, a worn, tattered red LaForza SUV (haven't seen one of those in ages), a new Chevy City Express van in HVAC repair livery, a black Audi A8, a clean brown and tan mid '80s Ford Bronco, and a sharp silver '65 Olds Jetstar 1 coupe I've seen around for years...

C&D just did an instrumented test on the new Volvo S90, and I thought this would be a good basis for a 'WWYBI' thread. Link- C&D 2017 Volvo S90 Test The car as tested ran 65K, but starts at 52K. So let's use a range of $52,000-67,000. Rules- 1) Car must be a sedan. 2) Must be a new, on-sale MY 2016 or 2017 model. 3) Must be AT LEAST $52,000 MSRP, but NO MORE THAN $67,000 MSRP.

I bought 50 shares of Ford today @ $5.10, my first trade in the stock market. After the yesterday's earnings tumble (F lost about $.90) and the Ford's outlook the next couple years, I feel like it's a pretty solid investment. I'm planning on buying more soon, and hopefully some GM in a few months after I have some time to watch it. I went through ShareBuilder.com and it's pretty easy to use considering I have no previous experience with stock markets. Does anyone else hold any automotive stock? Or just stock in general?

Think of how much this $h! is stacking up in our landfills... what a waste of resources and energy, and stupid-ass Obama wants to talk out the other side of his mouth and demand that CAFE go to a ricockulous 60 mpg. We all know how much consumer reports sucks at selecting their favorite cars. Well, I read their recent coffee article where they said 'eight o clock' coffee was the 'best'. I do know its the CHEAPEST. So, needing to conserve $$$$ lately, I bit, and in lieu of the starbucks....I got some of this crap. Tried it. EWEEEEEEEEE. How the FFFFFFKKKKK does this stuff win a comparo over starbucks and caribou? I end up blending the 8 o clock beans with some french roast starbucks i wasn't using, in order to get the stuff drinkable. OY. CONSUMER REPORTS IS USELESS!!!!

Well, as most of your know (or maybe don't know), I've been driving around in Chevy Luminas since I was a youngin' with a learner's permit. My first car was a '90 Euro, and my current is a '94 Euro, both 4-door sedans with the 3100. I've had the '94 now for 5 years and have racked on 70,000 additional miles (bought it with 80,000 originally). I've been saving up and am finally going to replace the old jalopy, although it will still be kept in the family as a beater car back home. It has an AC leak that will cost more than the car with worth to repair, and the rust and hail damage are major chick repellents. At the Ford dealer back home, there is a 2001 Lincoln LS V8…

Saw today a '10 V6 Camaro in gray w/ the base wheels, first I've seen like that. Had a white pinstripe down the beltline. Saw a couple personalized plates--an Infiniti Q56 (I think that's what the 3rd gen Q was called?) w/ the plate 'PAPAJHN'...thought he had a gold 2nd gen Camaro? Saw also a dark blue Acura RL w/ huge chrome bling wheels that had the plate 'GO N LO'..not really..more of 'GO N HI' with those big wheels.

I'm just fascinated that this is my 1234th post. Sequence... yeah... Anyways, I don't know where these next few weeks are going to lead me. Ok, so this is kind of a stupid story, but here goes. his moring I was pulling into the North Campus parking lot at college. Usually you can just drive through, but today there was agate installed. that gate has been there before, but it gets broken all the time, so they usually leave busted, but today yet another one was up. This threw me off, so when i came to a stop I was too far away from teh terminal to swipe my ID. Then another car pulling in behind me. I got out of the car, swiped it, got back in, and pulled away, but I was doing itin a bit of a rush, cuz there's a time limit on that gate. In my rush, I grazed the damn pole that the gate is connected to. i was so…

Alright... Each year, Brookville host's the week long Laurel Festival on Main Street. It officially starts tomorrow, monday morning. Well, most of the things planned all week are quite boring, but it ends with a nice car show on Sunday. Well, being that it's really the only thing worth coming to Brookville for, other than the Labor Day homecoming in nearby Knox Dale, I thought I'd see if anybody wanted to meet there. I mean, might as well come to Brookville to see me sooner or later. And plus it's a car show that closes down Main St... Who can go wrong with that? You could even enter it if you wanted. So... anyone up for it. If not... well.. I thought I'd atleast ask, y…

Amongst taking pictures, snow shoveling, and a few other things done during the "Blizzard 2011 Snow Day" I had, Wednesday, February 2, 2011, I found myself watching old car ads online. It's not like I didn't have other things to do ... it was just a cool way to spend a part of the day. I noted a bunch of my favorites; the results are the links below. At the end, I'm including a few 2011 Super Bowl commercials.... I had hoped my Dad's home-town Steelers would win, but the Green Bay Packers win includes one person that connects to the 1985 Chicago Bears, who won the 1986 Super Bowl 25 years ago ... Wayne Larrivee. Wayne was the "voice of the Bears" in that 1985 season …

* WORD MATH: Not having enough energy + drugs = too much thinking time My energy level is starting to increase (as evidenced by a 3-day stretch where I had 2 days of "Nephew Time" and 1 day "out" at my Aunt/Uncle's house for the midday hours), so I can HOPEFULLY get a few things done soon, before I go to work in about a month. Which also means ... less "online" time. It's not good to wonder "what if" OR torture oneself with "if I only knew then what I know now" OR consider what you might do given a "do over" chance. Yet, sometimes the mind just wanders to those ... and it's hard to stop it, particularly when the drugs are doing most of the talking. I don't have any…

Latest issue compares the super sedans and the pecking order is: 5. Dogsus LS 460L 4. Jaguar Super V-8 3. BMW 750 Li 2. Audi A8l Quattro 1. MB S550 5. Dogsus For a car that some of us thought might win, fifth place seems astonishing. But you have to blame Lexus's obsessive isolation from noise and vibration for this outcome. Persuading Lexus to negotiate our famous lane change test was akin to driving a coach. ..... sound levels are low enough inside that imperfect door seals on our preproduction vehicle produced wind noise that seemed hurricane like in comparison. What??? Lexus has quality glitches? Toy-boy-ta is going to recall Lexus, :AH-HA_wink: Talk…

"Finding trust & love is not always easy to make" __ Yael Naim __ 'New Soul' After experiencing a roller coaster last weekend of July, I decided to post 1 last "commentary". We live in a very small world. And, we don't always realize it. Fellow "roadie" Denny G & I have had several "misses" meeting in person, including a stop in Amarillo TX in 2011. We were in that town the SAME night, but didn't realize it until a day or so later while comparing "current road trip" notes. So, when Denny told me about his Route 66 trip this year, we were determined to meet. Before he left, we briefly discussed the possibility of me driving with him to St Louis, Friday, 07/2…

I was watching Future weapons and found that they have a bullet that can be basically a point and shoot at 2500 yards on a cold bore shot. Thats very impressive I would bow down to that. But I remember reading about gravity, elevation, temperature, and all those other variables that effect a ballistic path. Its not like you can line up the cross hairs and go. you had to mentally do all the math from your GPS, offset your X hairs, and commit. I believe my longest one is 1,917 yards but about 5 minutes after that shot I don't remember anything but waking up that night in a Medic tent in unbearable pain. Sadly the Guy that saved me that day died on my birthday this year. …

http://bangshift.com/blog/goliaths-younger-brother-a-1972-chevy-c50-pickup-that-is-cool-truck-perfection.html His 1972 Chevy C50 is like the Goliath truck, a custom deal that as far as we can tell never came from the factory in any configuration resembling this. For Jeff’s truck, he started out with a moving truck and took 5 feet out of the chassis in front of the rear wheels, and then chopping another 5 feet off the frame behind the rear wheels. The result is pickup truck length but on steroids due to the sheer size of the wheels, tires, chassis, etc. It’s like a real life Tonka truck. It’s got an 8′ bed on it, big ten lug wheels, fender flares front and rear, and it lo…

Autoweek subscribers will know what I'm talking about. Each week, Toyota puts some blatant bulls*it, folksy ad in the magazine, extolling their many virtues. Hehe (I can't stop snickering), this week it's headlined "Bonding on the Trail: Going Off-Road to Find the Spirit of the New FJ Cruiser". "When Toyota decided to move forward with the production of the FJ Cruiser in 2005, it charged the development team with two important missions. The first was to bring young (and dumb?) customers into Toyota showrooms; the second was to reinvigorate the Toyota truck lineup with a vehicle that was fun to drive, stylish and tough (all italics are mine)." Yes, beyond my wildest imagination, I was forced to fork over hard-earned cash for a Ford product. Here's a picture of the new 2008 Ford F150 STX that's parked in my garage: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, I never said it was mine! My son Justin celebrated his 3rd birthday recently (08/08/08) and this was one of two presents from me, the wife, and my step-son (the other was a new Tonka-themed boys 14" bike). Here's one with the happy owner: He is extremely pleased with his Fisher Price Power Wheels Ford F150 STX with Monster Traction! He got it Saturday afternoon and has spent an hour or two driving it everyday since.

What a bunch of blowhard a-holes. What makes these dizzy-asses think I want to listen to their CRAP? I should call back with *69 and see if I can get ahold of a real moron over there and cuss them out.

Kinda just a random thought.... but not out of the question. We've all heard of "employee owned" companies, what about many members of C&G owning a large percentage of GM?? I bet we could do considerably better than Kerkorkian! I'm far from rich, but times that by many... Just think of all the combined resources the people of this forum have. Mmmmm........???

I heard this song the other day on TV or somewhere and it has been bugging me that I can't figure out who sings it. I have no idea what the lyrics are except that there is a male vocalist that goes "do - do Do DOO" repeatedly in the chorus, while a guitar is plucked. It's a very slow, mellow song...it reminds me of summer. I'm guessing it's from the 70s by the way it sounds, but I really have no idea. I'm pretty sure it has been used in one or more movies before.

My Saturn dealership has been contacting me a lot over the last two months, wanting me to "trade-out" of my AURA for a new Saturn of my choosing. While I like the VUE, the OUTLOOK would be the Saturn vehicle I'd go with. Please vote and let me know what I should do. Feel free to post your thoughts after voting too. (Note: this is in no way a sure-fire purchase for me, I'm just curious as to what people think about buying a new Saturn vehicle)

Has anyone here ever tried it really? Keeping nothing beyond what is truly essential? The concept is tempting me.

Over here in California, doing laundry and preparing for work slightly after midnight, the forum index indicates it's ZL-1's birthday. Aqui em California, fazendo lavandaria e preparando pelo trabalho depois de meianoite, o index do forum indica que e o aniversario do ZL-1. For those of you who get irked by the foreign language stuff, I'm entitled a "waiver" to (attempt) to wish one of our long-time members a happy birthday in Portugal in Portuguese. Have a great birthday, Pedro!

Incredibly Stupid Designs of the Mundane What designs of every day things to you encounter that just make you stop and seriously contemplate looking up the designer so you can give that person a good slap across the face while shouting "What were you thinking?!?" I'll give the example I encountered to as a starting off point. As many of you know, my partner and I share his 2004 Honda CRV. Today I was doing an oil change. The oil filter is located at the rear bottom part of the engine block. In order to access it you must reach around the CV boot. When you pull the filter off, the remaining oil that is still in the block drains out through the filter hole directly onto …

Went to the gym today, and the hot shower water dried my hands up pretty bad. After that, I went to the grocery store. In the soap aisle, there was a rack with some kind of hand lotion I'd never heard of. They had all the different flavors sitting there in a row at shoulder height with "tester" written on the bottle, so I thought what the heck. I chose the unscented flavor, put my hand under the nozzle, and pushed down. Instead of squirting down into my hand, it shot straight out onto the center of my chest the size of a quarter and left a trail down to my navel. I looked like a friend had just done something very naughty to me. I immediately looked around to see…

Anyone doing anything fun this holiday weekend? For the first time in years, I'm not traveling..staying home to catch up on sleep, pool time, and watch some racing (Indy 500, Turkish GP). Going to be taking a few long weekend trips this summer, but not on holiday weekends....first up is a weekend in Del Mar (San Diego) in mid June.

There were cars I used to see tons of when I was a kid, many of which have basically disappeared. Plenty of cars have been noted in my Car Spotting posts that I had missed for a good while, but there are sadly some that are pretty much gone forever. I mean, I can't remember the last time I've seen a: -Dodge Polara -77 Chrysler New Yorker like my grandpa had -B- or C-body Chrysler wagon -Fury or Coronet like the cops used to drive. -early 70s Charger or Satellite (it's like Chryslers just die off or something) -Oldsmobile Firenza (H or J-body) -pre-80 Buick Estate Wagon -first-gen Celica fastback -Audi Fox -first-gen Audi 4000 -Audi GT Coupe -some of those we…

I'm looking for a Firebird / Trans Am ad that came out between 1982-1985. I saved a picture of it on my computer a long time ago but can't find it anymore. It was a night pic with the Trans Am's parking lights on and a girl standing next to it with lots of fog. Does anyone have it / know where to find it?

Here's something to try, if you're looking for something a bit different in a weekend breakfast: Preheat oven to 375 Peel, core and slice two apples, your choice of variety (I used gala apples this a.m.) Place apple pieces in a baking dish Very lightly dust with flour (thickens the resulting juice so it clings to the apples to enhance flavor) Add a couple small pats of butter to stave off scorching and soften the sauce Sparingly sprinkle with brown sugar or honey (the apples are plenty sweet, just a little bit will be enough) Sprinkle with powdered ginger and cinnamon to taste Top it all off with a couple of tablespoons of real bacon bits …

alright guys im on a very limited budget i have 5500 to spend on a car and cant really afford to put much in it after that. Ive been looking for a really long time and have it narrowed down to 2 cars. One is a 1991 z28 camaro with 98,000, red, red cloth interior, 5.7 litre engine and automatic tranny. Number two is a red 1990 300zx with 110,00 miles on the body and less then 10k on the new dealer installed engine with a 5spd manua,l new (tastefully done) sound system, and new exhuast headers and all. Both cars are immaculate for the age inside and out. I am a die hard manual guy and have sworn that i wouldnt buy anything but a manual but this camaro is tempting me. but on…

Thank god... now I can tell you all how my day (as well as the past few days) went without anyone second guessing what I say. I mean... seriously. I could say something bluntly obvious and you guys wouldn't believe it on that day. First off, I got to ride out to my Grandparents today, on my 300EX. It wasn't warm, but it wasn't cold either. It was wet, though. Damn rain, the previous night... Anyways, had fun. Got to pull some major Gs with it with sliding the tail around tight dirt road turns. Just the usual... Once there, I got to ride in his new Yamaha Rhino 660 again. It's pretty nice except for that auto. It's a tricky little thing and really causes the 660 to suck …

So.. I know what you're all thinking.. And I'm thinking the same. I love my Camaro, I really do. I love most everything about it. However, it's wearing on me and isn't as fresh as it was 2 years ago when I started driving, much less 6 years ago when we bought it. What's bugging me about it? Read on. Let's date back to when we bought this thang: almost exactly 6 years ago. Since the first day we had it in the garage, it has had a very slight oil leak. I'm talking about maybe one drip of oil on the garage floor after each time of taking it out for a drive. Not a big deal, no, but it does mean that my rear main is bad. But.. we fixed that with the engine rebuild, right? …
