Well, with Christmas decorations going up in the department stores, that can only mean one thing, it's almost Halloween! What have you seen on the roads as you're out and about, dodging spirits? Wicked black A5 for me today, and about 4 million Cobalts. Isn't it funny that as soon as you buy a certain vehicle, you start to notice every single one you pass by?

I found this pic of a Cadillac/Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealership in Vancouver WA. What do you guys think? Going forward, do you think this type of efficient bundling of brands would allow the brands to remain distinctive? I actually do. That's providing the dealership features separate entrances for the brand showrooms and separate service advisors/areas for Cadillac owners & BPG owners. The backend would benefit by using the same lot, management, including the service/technician dept and facilities. The distinction would remain but make it convenient for BPG shoppers to "browse" Cadillac and eventually trade-up. It would also allow Cadillac to move more toward…

There's so much negativity everywhere (and as Camino said, panic) So here goes, this thread will be a 100% positive ZONE. No bitching (myself included) no whining, no arguing, just clean, good, constructive input about whatever positive things you want to discuss. 3, 2, 1 - GO. 1.) Sometime between right now Halloween I will be a dad for the second time. Amelia is due Nov. 7th but according to doctors will almost def. be early. She's so active, kicking and rolling around in Julie's stomach that you can see her sweater/t-shirt moving around when she's sitting down. I',m super excited but also nervous. What a year to bring another baby into the world.…

Is this dude a piece of $hit or what? He couldn't keep his nose clean. He was just found guilty of theft and kidnapping in Las Vegas. In a way, I think he had a "survivor's guilt" issue. He obviously knew he did it because he became so self-destructive afterward. I heard he was not treated well in public and probably had to constantly look over his shoulder. If he was truly innocent, he could have had a clear conscience, could have lived a life of luxury and could have been surrounded by blonde poon. I guess he'll have to take what's available in adjacent jail cells, or Rosey Palms, now. Justice is served. May the sentencing be just as harsh.

I don't know if it's on their website, but I just saw this video on CNN Headline News...a motorist that had been pulled over and ticketed for speeding put his Camry in reverse and backed up over the hood and into the windshield of a Crown Vic PI. All captured on video by the in-car camera in the police car...pretty funny.

Just some daydreaming born out of some Sonoma-related frustrations. http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/860186545.html This car is also located about 20 miles south of where the Cutlass originated from (Jellico, Tennessee), and somewhere around the town from where the Cutlass was originally purchased (LaFollette, Tennessee). I wonder what other gems I can find in Tennessee?

Ugh, the damned DNC is leaving unsolicited messages on my telephone, urging me to vote for that crackpot Obama. I've had to erase like 6 messages so far off my phone. What a bunch of blowhard a-holes. What makes these dizzy-asses think I want to listen to their CRAP? I should call back with *69 and see if I can get ahold of a real moron over there and cuss them out.

I just have to announce that I am sick and tired of finding TRASH in my mailbox from the Obama campaign. It's been coming almost DAILY. Think of how much this $h! is stacking up in our landfills... what a waste of resources and energy, and stupid-ass Obama wants to talk out the other side of his mouth and demand that CAFE go to a ricockulous 60 mpg. What kind of effed-up dream world is this guy living in?.

I'm looking at buying a new desktop very soon (planning on getting GTA IV when it comes out for PC) and have been looking at Gateway 9500's and 9100e's. The systems I have looked at are AMD quad cores with 3 gigs of memory, about 640 gigs hard drive space, but they have pretty weak video cards. They're refurbished and price about $400-600. I haven't yet looked at Dell or HP. What's some good bang for the buck for PC performance? I'd be willing to upgrade the video card and power supply if I go the refurbished route, but is there anything new that is worth looking at. I don't want to spend more than $800-900.

I've always wanted to check this guys book out ("Metallica and Philosophy: A Crash Course In Brain Surgery") I think this article (pertaining to the release of Death Magnetic) is a very cool read! I often get MANY responses when I tell people how adamant I am about metal, particularly thrash, death and black metal. I get everything from "Don't kill yourself, it'll be okay" to sneers of disgust and comments like "Unlike you, I don't worship satan." to people even calling me ignorant. Well, this article is one of the best things I've found that explains HOW I view metal and WHY I'm such a big fan. When your life is a daily struggle to survive (Like mine was at one po…

So this happened yesterday: Now, I fully plan on keeping my car until it dies. That said, I've been considering whether to buy a cheap older car with good gas mileage to keep from piling up more miles than necessary on my primary car. Would it be economically responsible to find a ~$2K beater that gets about 30-35 mpg to trek the 30 miles each way to work? Or would initial cost, insurance and probability of repair make it not worth it? -RBB

In the AL we've got: Tampa Bay Rays (97-65) vs. Chicago White Sox (89-74) and Los Angles Angels of Anaheim (100-61) vs. Boston Red Sox (95-67) In the NL: Chicago Cubs (97-64) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (84-78) and Philadelphia Phillies (92-70) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (90-72) My picks (because I've been so good at this  ) are Rays over Sox, Angels over Sox, Cubs over Dodgers, Phillies over Brewers. Then the Rays over the Angels, Cubs over Phillies, then Cubs over Rays. What can I say, I'm a homer. I had Arkus out running around the place a while back, and he disappeared from view just long enough for me to know that it meant trouble (with Arkus that's about a minute or so). So I start calling him. He still doesn't show up. Just as I'm about to jump in the Silverado to hunt him down, he rounds the bend from behind the barn. Carrying a fox in his mouth. I yell at him and he drops the fox, and crawls over to me (realizing that he's screwed-up again). So I grab a hold of of him thinking that I'll need to put a wounded fox out of its misery. When I looked up, the fox was running away (looking pretty pissed-off). I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking I'd…

With many four-cylinder cars now making really big power, and V6s having mpg like V8s without the power, couldn't the automakers dispense with many of the V6 applications? Might that not create an efficiency situation that would allow for V8 cars to fit more easily under the new CAFE regs while keeping the formerly V6-powered cars at similar power levels while dramatically increasing the CAFE numbers? Just a thought.

This morning it really hit me like a ton of bricks. This year has been all about panic and overreaction. From the obvious confusion of all of the federal legislators to the G3, there has been a strong tendancy to rush headlong into disaster mode. Yes, things are bad and will get worse, but I can't help thinking that no one is thinking anything through before reacting. Maybe it is just that I have had the experience of living through the late '70's, but I see the degree of panic exhibited across our society as near-hysterical. I don't mean to diminish the severity of things, but I do worry that we are so afraid now that we are flailing about and taking actions we wil…

I saw that Hurricane Kyle is headed for Nova Scotia. It's hard to fathom that a hurricane is heading for Eastern Canada when they all seem to take aim at the Gulf States. I have never been in a hurricane but know that people can move inland from one. I have been in a tornado warning. When I was in Champaign IL in grad school, one day the sky went real dark and it was an eerieness I've not seen before. We were told that a tornado was near an adjacent town and that we needed to take refuge. It did not come through. Earthquakes are the most frightening. There is no warning and the heaving/pitching/rolling can be up and down, side to side, or some combination ther…

Eventually, I have quite a story to tell, but in the meantime...I have an opinion question for you guys. A lot of you may put 2 and 2 together, from the question and choices , but I digress. If you were buying a new '09 Malibu right now, and had already picked colors (White/Cashmere...don't need help there, so don't bother), but were between 2 models, which would you prefer and why? If it makes any difference, say if you were coming from a current Epsilon 3.5L/4-speed car and enjoy the combo of power & economy it has, and could take more of either, and have narrowed your choice to the following 2 cars. #1: 2009 Malibu 2LT with V6 package, premium mats, power pa…

I finally took my GED test. I'm still awaiting official results, however, I heard that I passed with flying colors. I must say, I was shocked at how easy the test was. I went into it, having not studied beyond taking one practice test, expecting to fail. The first section, taking both Mathematics and Writing/Grammar wasn't hard in the least. For math, it was basics. For grammar, it was common sense. For writing, it was knowing how to write, which is clearly not that hard, unless we're talking about someone who has divulged themselves in rap and instant messaging slang. The second section, consisting of Science, Social Studies, and Reading, wasn't quite as easy, but sti…

About every other week or so I cruise some online car buying websites looking to see what decent used GMCs are for sale. Wishing that I had the extra cash, or at least had an easy and quick way to get out of the AURA lease, most of the time I just "daydream" about buying one of the many trucks I've found. Yesterday I' was a little bored so I cruise on over to one of the used car buying sites and search '99-'02 GMC Sierras. I found this one: 2001 GMC Sierra SLE Regular Cab, Shortbed K1500 It's what I've always wanted (well, if it had the sportside bed option it'd really be perfect) - regular cab, shortbed, K1500 (4WD) SLE with tons of factory options (foglights,…

Well, I'm still alive and doing well. However, I'm writing this from my computer at work as I still have no power or cable at my house. Which totally sucks btw, considering the storm hit September 13th in the wee hours of the morning and I haven't had power since then. My wife and I are living off generator power - with electrical cords all throughout our house. Our beautiful huge cypress tree in the backyard uprooted during the storm and came crashing down on our shed, ripping the main power line running behind our house on 11th Street totally off it's pole, and damaging my service line too. The big news from a car perspective though is that Ike basically killed …

By Diane Sweet 9/21/08 8:01 PM Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain started out his day-long Michigan visit last week with a surprise stop at an Oakland County General Motors Corp. plant. McCain toured GM’s Lake Orion assembly plant that makes Chevy Malibus and Pontiac G6s. With his wife Cindy McCain by his side, McCain shook hands with plant workers. But he met some opposition. I doubt the McCain’s will be visiting the GM plant again anytime soon. DNA testing use to be quite expensive, now it's little more than 100 bucks. I decided to do this based on Mitochondrial DNA test results, which are passed down from Mother to Child unchanged from generation to generation with very little genetic drift. The results of this test were surprising to say the least, my German grandfather always used to call my German grandmother his Sweet Swede, there was a rumor that my mother's great great-grandmother came from Sweden or someplace north of Germany in the Nordic countries. It seems according to the DNA results, she actually came from Iceland, Swedish and Icelandic are very close languages linguistically. 90% of all my exac…

So, with all of the talk of high gas prices, are YOU actually driving LESS? Apparently, I am (road trips, not included). Since November 2007, I've driven my cars a cumulative total of ~750 miles less than the previous twelve months (not including, of course, road trips, for which I currently rent). However, I do have about 2 more months to go since I last noted mileages for my MCs in November 2007.... BUT...if you break it down by car, only one of mine has been driven less. Since November 2007, the "count" looks like this... '87 MC LS (daily driver) ... driven 1700 miles LESS The rest ... have all been driven MORE miles than I drove them in all of 2007, with at…

Jalopnik First it was the Toyota Altezza lighting the world on fire with the clear tail light craze, then came Buick, igniting the love triangle between Pep-Boys, 17-year-olds, and stick on fender vents, now it's the Corvette ZR1 and its hood window kicking off a new trend. Hillbank Motorsports has created a hood with a window in it for the 2005-2009 Ford Mustang which will let you show off that stonkin' V6 with NOS and dress up pulleys. Of course, if you're sporting a supercharged monster mill, it'll work there too, but lets be honest about who goes after this kind of thing. Expect hood windows for Civics, third generation 'Tegs, and mid-90s Accords …

Hard day for me, today and yesterday. We laid my grandmother to rest this morning. I so treasure her spirit, her humor and her Old World work ethic, which I inherited and thank her for. Born in Jersey City NJ to recently-immigrated parents, she worked long days in the Black Dirt Region of Orange County NY as a young woman, out in the onion & celery fields, with my father by her side as a young child. Later, she was a long-time factory production worker for Avon. After retiring, she and my grandfather drove down to Florida every winter, fishing and meeting up with friends & relatives. She cooked & canned, she crafted, she golfed, she elevated cleaning to an Oly…

Today 3 guys and me had to fly to Chicago. We are working political security so we do have some equipment to bring. The one guy is Lebanese so he has a middle east complexion. Us four are walking into the building we are all wearing an urban camo type outfit and 50 ID tags and Silver police type badge. We have hip holsters with pistols in them and clips on the other side and a Taser gun on our belts. We all had 2 gun cases and we set them down and start talking. Then out of know where 8 security guards come up and start questioning Camel (the Lebanese guy). They were relentless too, They totally ignored all 3 of us right next to him dressed exactly the same. We really sta…

How the big ones fall hard. Lehman one of the pinnacles of investment banking and dream for many young banker grads may probably cease existence after tonite. This may very well be a wake up call for the big riches to get some sense and stop playing with money of others. I feel sorry for the "foot soldier" employees who will lose their income. Never blame the soldier who fights on the battlefield because he is just taking orders from the chieftains. My dad who is back in India and has no knowledge of what is happening day to day in US gave a good historical evidence. He said that in 19th century before a presidential election (he does not recollect who was elected) …

Name your favorite President or political figure. Doesn't have to be for political reasons. Me? My favorite President is Andrew Jackson. Reasons: Kicked the snot out of a British army, 50% larger than his own, after the truce was agreed on, forcing the British to abide by it. He was the target of the first assassination attempt against a U.S. President. An insane, out of work house painter blamed Jackson for his perpetual unemployment. He followed Jackson to the capital rotunda and fired two pistols at Jackson. Both pistols fortunately misfired. Jackson then beat the man with his cane until his aids restrained him. Jackson fought 13 duels, many nominally ov…

I do not know if anybody has used this before, but Synergy, is a software using which you can hook-up up to eight computers to one keyboard and mouse (of the mother computer). No more having virtual desktop, or other LAN based shebang. So as long all your computers are seeing one network, Synergy works fine. I am using it and I love it. What is cool is that the software lets you copy and paste from one computer to other. If you do not have capability of setting up a network, there is a free online VPN known as Hamachi; it is secured compared to other VPN's and the best part is that you can access any of your computers from anywhere in the world so as long you hav…

Tell me what that one political issue is that is near and dear to your heart. The one that would get you involved enough to support a candidate on that issue alone. Remember just pick your main one. For me it's Illegal Immigration. Shut down the Southern border of the USA, and I don't care if you have to put a Berlin style wall up manned with soldiers, with orders to Shoot to Kill. Come in the legal way, no problem! Sneak across the border, well then you take your chances with the wall and the guns.

Assuming that you can start from scratch, how would you formulate a platform for a third party? Just to get started: - repeal the Patriot act - eliminate income tax - legalize recreational drug use - have the next session of congress spend its time repealing laws instead of writing new ones - base the party on the real world expansion of personal freedom in everyday life. ( to reduce the ever-increasing big brotherism of the present). - the party would be entirely " faith blind" with religion not getting a place at the table. A truly secular philosophy of government.

Friendships wax and wane and so do the posting on the favorite forums. A lot of things have transpired in the past few months on personal front, I will give you a detailed update later. However, I feel somewhat relaxed and better. I hope everybody here is hanging on and feeling great. I missed Satty's satire, Camino's projects, Fly's writeups, NOS's love stories, DF's postwhoring, 68's B-pillarz, BV's millenia and devil, Blu's excellent humor, Olds' tenacity to fix the Error # 501, K.C and ZL-1's sensible comments and others if I forgot I appreciate your presence to keep this forum still in better shape.

I know life "gets in the way" ... I'm not sure I could even make the entire trek ... but if I and a few others set up plans for a leisurely cruising tour of RT 66 from Chicagoland to California, are you interested in participating for all or part of the festivities? This would take place in the September/October 2009 timeframe. I know that is the fall with school and other activities back in session, but this timeframe is ideal in terms of "cooler" temps...we wouldn't be dealing with sweltering heat in the southern states.... And, we wouldn't be at the "peak" of the summer driving/vacation season.... We'd start in Chicagoland, with a Saturday gathering in the Elgin …

WASHINGTON - Alan Greenspan says the country can't afford tax cuts of the magnitude proposed by Republican presidential contender John McCain — at least not without a corresponding reduction in government spending. "Unless we cut spending, no," the former Federal Reserve chairman said Friday when asked McCain's proposed tax cuts, pegged in some estimates at $3.3 trillion. "I'm not in favor of financing tax cuts with borrowed money," Greenspan said during an interview with Bloomberg Television. "I always have tied tax cuts to spending." McCain has said that he would offset his proposed cuts — including reducing the corporate tax rate and eliminating the Alternative M…

I have been so disgusted by the garbage coming from both major parties (even here in our own political threads), that I believe that I will most likely return to my long-established pattern of voting Libertarian this year. Last time I voted for Kerry (whom I don't like) just because I felt that "W" was such a rotten SOB that we needed to be rid of him at all costs - it was the only time that I have ever voted major party. I just feel that all rationality has evaporated in the shrill partisan bleatings from the dems and the repubs, which leaves me hating the idea of endorsing either with my vote. Not yet an absolute decision, but very, very, close.

270 votes needed to win the election, Obama has 238, McCain has 227. 73 are up for grabs. See on who's side your state falls on, or not. Link: http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/presiden...states/map.html

http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID...NEWS07/80913011 kinda overshadowed by Ike. LOS ANGELES-- Emergency crews found more victims early today, boosting the death toll to 17, as they delicately picked apart the mangled wreckage of a commuter train that collided head-on with a freight train on the same track. Advertisement More victims were feared trapped in the wrecked Metrolink commuter train. About 135 people were injured. The impact rammed the Metrolink engine backward into a passenger car, which rested on its side with the engine still inside it early today, and accordioned the freight train cars. Two other Metrolink cars remained upright. Crews had t…

Some of you know i am doing some work on the political campaigns as security and other stuff. If with 3 other guys all in there early 20's. its comical because I'm old enough to be there Dad's. So they call me Pa. Well as a joke at the range today I bet that I could shoot better with my pistol than they can with there scoped rifles at 100 yards. If I won they would have to buy me a S&W 1911 .45 pistol because they complain my 9mm Browning wont cut the job anymore. It was close but a 3rd party counted the points and I came out ahead by 5 points. I said i would take them out to the bar and to forget about the bet. Well to my surprise when we meet up later they got me th…
