Barnes&Noble always has a busy parking lot. So yesterday I found a spot and went in to browse. When I came out to leave, I put the truck in Drive and was about to let my foot off the brake when this woman in an Accord driving one-handed with a cell phone in her ear whips in front of me, and parks in the hash lines, which of course is not a legal parking spot. She sees me and continues to gab on the phone while sipping a beverage out of a paper cup. I glare, she looks at me, and ignores me. I blow the horn and mouth out to her while motioning "That is not a parking spot!" She gives me a quizzical look like "Wha?" So I blow the horn some more because I want to le…

Today on my lunch break I headed out to Wawa (a local convenience store chain) to get a bit of food. I have to pass the Toyota dealer, among others, on the route. They had three Tundras sitting out on the grass along the road. On the way back, I pulled onto the lot, jumped out, and walked around one. In two seconds, a cheery young saleslady appeared and held out her hand. I shook it and we introduced ourselves. "So, is this the first time you've seen the new Tundras?" "Yes." "Cool!" "Not really." "What?" "That thing is ugly!" (look of shock, but she regained her composure quickly) "That's the ugliest truck on the market." "Well, that's one opinion." And w…

I found the perfect car to replace your Olds. A 1007 Mitsubishi Galant, $99/month. Thats less than what you pay for repairs. I can look into it and get terms of the lease (I'm assuming its either a massive amount up front or insanely low mileage) if you're interested. You can be one of the few, the proud, the Galantists.

Well, it might be changing big time within the next 6 months or so. First, I've got a guy that's pretty interested in the Camaro (finally threw it in AutoTrader last week), so that should hopefully be gone soon, leaving space for another Camaro. A new addition to the driveway would be the '87-92 Camaro IROC 5.7L my dad's looking to find and rebuild. He's taking most of his bonus and splurging on a car when he finds one. Second, the lease on my mom's '05 4.7L Durango is up in June or so, and my parents are seriously considering getting an Acadia in the driveway. As I mentioned in the GMC forum, I took my parents up to the GMC dealer the other day and they loved the way…

Anyone here with interesting names for their computers..i.e. other than the IP address, giving it a hostname? It's kind of a computer geek thing, I think...friends of mine name their computers after things like sci fi characters, Star Trek characters, places in the Lord of the Rings movies, etc... when I set up my current home network about 5 years ago I went the naming scheme of vintage GM car names that end in 'A'... as I've added computers, I've added names... my network now consists of Ventura, Catalina, Electra, Invicta, Impala, and Omega.

In an attempt to actually start saving my money, I have been looking at a few online saving banks since they have much higher interest rates than what the traditional "brick-and-mortar" banks offer even on CDs. I've been looking at ING, Emigrant Direct and HSBC (which is currently offering a 6% APY on new accounts). Needless to say, HSBC is looking the best to me right now. Is anyone else using these? Any others and/or pros and cons I should know about?

The 'Camino has a kink in the hood from someone forcing it closed instead of oiling the hinges. It kinked at the built-in factory "fault line" . How reliably can that be fixed? I think I'm going to use the hood from the parts car instead, but if that one is too rough I might want to fix the original. I'm just concerned that it will be too weak to stay straight after being fixed. Watcha think?

I'll be sure to get plenty of the new stuff, but if there's something specific you want post it here ASAP, as I'm leaving before noon CST tomorrow. I'll be there Saturday as well, but I probably won't have access to the internet, so I likely won't see any requests posted after I leave.

Yeah, so it's Thursday. Dinner at mom's once again. I called her from my truck to tell her I'd be a few minutes late because I had to pick up my taxes. Big mistake. All evening she tried to pry out of me how much my refund will be. "It's not a big thing. How much will you get back?" "I'm not going to ask you to buy me anything." "I'll bet if your dad asked you, you'd tell him." etc., etc. Then she turned to "well, now that you've joined a gym, have you met any girls there?" "Is your new truck as nice as your old one?" I swear, it's in their DNA. Is everyone's mom this way? :AH-HA_wink:

I was watching Future weapons and found that they have a bullet that can be basically a point and shoot at 2500 yards on a cold bore shot. Thats very impressive I would bow down to that. But I remember reading about gravity, elevation, temperature, and all those other variables that effect a ballistic path. Its not like you can line up the cross hairs and go. you had to mentally do all the math from your GPS, offset your X hairs, and commit. I believe my longest one is 1,917 yards but about 5 minutes after that shot I don't remember anything but waking up that night in a Medic tent in unbearable pain. Sadly the Guy that saved me that day died on my birthday this year. …

Hey everyone. At kinda the mid point of teh auto show season I was wondering if anyone made any revisions to their plans for near future (or more distant for that matter) car purchases. I had said I wanted to get the new CTS this coming fall. Well, scratch that. I love the new CTS. I think its great. Im in the market looking for a new truck and last night I test drove a '07 Canyon Crew Cab. Wow that thing was nice. Smooth ride, decent amount of power, and quiet engine. The interior looked pretty good to me. I heard so many complaints about it, but it was nice to me. I also test drove a '07 Frontier. That thing was a piece of garbage. The interior felt cheaper than the canyon with all that hard, cheap plastic. The ride was bumpy. I also noticed in the frontier that when i hit the gas kinda hard, the transmission was searching for gears. That seemed kinda odd to me. Do Something about it? (link) I've been having recent fantacies of driving my new Camaro, but dread the idea of the possibility that I might have to install a front license plate on it. So... I came up with an idea of replacing the front plate with a decal that could go on the windshield, and thought I'd research CA law for $h!s-n-giggles to see exactly why a front plate is required and if such a decal idea would work. Well... I didn't find that information, because I ran into the above link (petition) instead. Who knows if the petition is worth it, or if it's even legit, but I wouldn't mind getting rid of the stupid law!

Folks, riding on the recent Hummer’s success in the Dakar Rally, I want to take team GM a step further. I have always felt that our pickups are very capable off-roading machines. Just look at those Southern boys lift their pickups to form a formidable off-roader or how the Midwesterners haul the stuff with their four-wheel drives or how the hillbillies like to have mud on their tires of their trucks. As some of you know P-D Rally is where vehicles with steel balls survive, and I definitely think our pickups have more than steel balls. I want us Cheersandgears.com folks to enter two GMT 900 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Duramax Diesels for the Paris-Dakar Rally of 2008. I k…

It flat out said at the end of the article that none of the four stood out and won the competition. But in the interest of needing to print a finishing order, they then ordered them they way they did, in my opinion on bias. They cited the Ford as being heavy and not having as much cargo space due to the fastback roofline. Its like they found one thing to bitch about about the Ford (weight) and played it up WAYYYY TO MUCH. Because the Ford, despite being heavy had some of the best acceleration times and the best handling t…

Renault-Nissan May Overtake Ford to Become #3 Just about everyone in the auto industry knows that Toyota Motor Corp. is on pace to pull ahead of General Motors Corp. (GM) as the world's largest carmaker this year or next. But less noticed has been a race just down the ranking tables, where another storied U.S. giant is facing similar pressure: Ford Motor Co. (F) is on the verge of being edged out by Renault (RNSDY)-Nissan (NSANY) for the No. 3 spot globally. As Ford shrinks to projected sales of 6.3 million vehicles for 2007, the French-Japanese alliance is likely to grow to 6.4 million, according to data from Morgan Stanley (MS) and UBS (UBS). Ford's catastrophic $12…

I'm a I stumbled across this while surfing Google. I just had to share this. A Chinese car enthusiast!. She must be enthused about knockoffs, poor designs, and quality so poor it makes a mid-90's Chrysler product looks bulletproof. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=80571225 :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

I saw this on CNN this afternoon. Hoax Devices Part Of Cartoon Ad Campaign (WBZ) BOSTON The suspicious devices which forced bomb units to scramble across Boston today were actually magnetic lights that are part of a marketing campaign for a television cartoon. The reports forced the temporary shutdowns of Interstate 93 out of the city, a key inbound roadway, a bridge between Boston and Cambridge, and a portion of the Charles River but were quickly determined not to be explosive. "It's a hoax -- and it's not funny," Gov. Deval Patrick said. All of the devices are magnetic lights which resemble a character on the show "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", on Turner Broadcasting'…

Well... it is good, I suppose, to learn where one's breaking point is. After tomorrow, I will have worked 30 of 31 days in January, only taking my B-day off {panicing; ocnblu scans his master list}. Some days were as light as 5 hrs, some as heavy as 11. Apparently, 29 days is about it, as I saw a few instances of failed processing & motor skills today, which is not good when you're a neurologic surgeon. Just kidding: I'm a contractor and have been working on interior renovation of a residential home. It's actually been enjoyable (nothing like being your own boss), tho the creeping brain fog of the past couple of days is a bit offsetting. One big plus: no pesky che…

H3 'Monster HUMMER' Completes Landmark Run at Dakar For the unfamilar, the Dakar Rally is not so much a rally as it is an endurance race that traditionally originated in Paris and ended in Dakar, Senegal over some of the most unforgiving terrain in the world. Recently, the starting locale has varied, but has mostly originated in continental Europe. There are three classes of competition - Motorbike, truck (large offroad vehicles), and car. Perennial leaders like the Mitsubishi Pajero, Land Rover, and Mercedes G-Wagen compete in the car class. Likewise, the HUMMER H3 competed alongside. The Dakar Rally is comprised of fifteen individual stages. Robby Gordon - with h…

Well, I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but I'm pledging for the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Anyway, the point of the thread is that a couple of us pledge brothers have spoken to current brothers of the house and we're going to try to get a project car.. an old school muscle car to fix up as a "just for fun" type of project. So, give me some crazy suggestions!

So I was driving home from work last week, when my Yukon started making a thumping noise. At first I thought it was just a bent rim or something, but I would have only been so lucky. After checking out all the wheels and taking it for another drive, I noticed that it only happened under power. After talking to a few people and having them take a look it, we thought it might be the U joint. It looked worn, but after replacing that the sound was still coming from somewhere else. It sounded like it was coming from the rear end. We took a look in the rear end, and this is what we found laying on the bottom.... We decided that this wasn't something that could be do…

Have you guys heard about the mountain lion that attacked an elderly couple hiking in the Redwoods in northern California? This blew my mind since that area looks more like Oregon, damp, with tall trees and ferns. I always thought these animals hung out where it's more parched and scrubby...like the Gold Country parts of the lower Sierra. The man has gotten better but now his condition is worse. I feel really bad for him. I'm holding good thoughts for him. In fact, there was a fatal mountain lion attack in the mid-1990s on a jogger on the outskirts of Auburn, a mere 30 miles east of Sacramento where people swim and raft in the river there. You are supposed to face…

A thread about comedians. Who do you like? Who don't you like? Etc. Personally, I've been a fan of Stephen Lynch for a while and seeing him on Comedy Central for the first time in a while last night gave me the idea for this thread. He's a comedic song writer. One simply needs to listen to Hermaphrodite, Lullaby, Grandfather, Talk to Me, Kill a Kitten, or one of his many other songs. They're cleverly written and on top of that, he's a great vocalist and guitarist. Other than him, I'm also a big fan of Carlos Mencia and Lewis Black.

Well, since this thread has snuffed itself out (thanks again to me...) http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...6229&st=360 I thought we'd do a another CAR ASSOCIATION thread. But here's the thing. PHOTOS ONLY! I'll start us off... and you guys just post the next car that pops into your head. Deusenberg. I'm not even sure if this particular one ever existed outside of a drawing but damn it's cool.

http://www.mininova.org/tor/561772 Man after you see his crash, its just insane that he's even alive. Much less back to normal. Also, the Jaguar XKR and Aston Martin V8 Vantage are 2 of the hottest cars you could possibly buy. I'd still kill for a Vantage.

I could be getting a older Dell Laptop in the next few weeks..for cheap. Downside is, that it is a celeron(not that big of a deal) 256k of memory, and a 20gb hard drive. Would it be worth it to upgrade it? And not cost me an arm and a leg? I plan use it for school-related stuff, so it doesn't have to be powerful....

You bound up the steps into the gym two at a time, show the front desk chick your member number, and make your way down to the locker room to change. You're so ready to get on that stepper and show it who's boss. 20 minutes on the stepper, no problem. You stop at the water fountain for a sip, in your regular routine, then wash your hands and head back upstairs, two at a time, full of energy. You're no newbie. You mix it up a bit on the apparatus, suavely making your way around the room with a professional, seasoned face. You can't help but glance around at a few attractive people, but your brow remains furrowed, intent on working your muscles, building a better body…

Well fly, I'm right on your heals. Woke up Saturday to my car alarm remote beaping at me. It was really windy when I woke up so I figured that the wind had just rocked the car enough to set the preshock on the alarm off, so I just got into the shower to get ready for work and ignored it. I got out of my apartment a little after 9 and when I got down to my car I did a quick walk around just to make sure. Sure enough, someone had backed into my Impala. Right on the corner of the back bumper on the drivers side. No note either. Not a huge smack I guess, but I'm going to need a new lower bumper cover and paint. It is getting a little wierd though. Since I got that ca…

No, I'm not talking about your favorite lyrics or quotes ... I'm talking about your mantra ... your "instrument of thought". That is, do you have a saying that you use to inspire you? Or, maybe you have a phrase that you use to explain things ... or, perhaps, just to entertain yourself and others ... or, perhaps, to use as an ice breaker or comedic relief? I ask because, I've seen and heard more and more mantras from various people ... and I'm curious if this is something that we all do, even subconsciously.... My mantra, given to me a few years ago by a good friend, is: "Irony rocks". So, if you have a mantra, what is yours? Cort:33swm."Mr Monte Carlo.Mr Road Trip…

My neighbor has a big ol' '66 (?) Chrysler in his driveway. Cool alright... but, it has an alarm. It's been going off... constantly, for the last like 3 days. The battery must be going dead, because the whole time it's been sounding like water dripping into a galvanized bucket, and it just won't stop, it goes on, and on... and on...
