I am currently in the process of gathering members both here and at C&G's rival site to rally against GM in light of their recent PR charade about transitioning the G8 to the Caprice. So many GM enthusiasts have begged and pleaded for Zeta's application in North America to be expanded beyond the new Chevrolet Camaro and yet GM continuously ignores us or, at best, makes promises it actually has no intention of delivering on. There was no way the "New GM' could have moved fast enough to actually determine if there was a business case for a new Chevrolet Caprice or Impala based on the Holden Commodore. GM sold so many enthusiasts and former enthusiasts an outright li…

video I just find this funny. I guess diesel would make for a good drifter - you don't have to rev it as high. I can't imagine it's too easy to drift with four back wheels though.

The wind around here is crazy, trucks were getting blown all over the highway on my way in this morning. The power keeps going out every half hour and taking out the network. Fun. I blame the wind. For some reason it's 11AM and the whole lab smells like fried chicken, but nobody knows why, or where the chicken is. Not sure if I can blame the wind for that one. Shaping up to be a strange day. Anybody else experience crazy winds?

What's on BV's mind, you ask? Well.... Monday, the 28th was the first day of Deer - Rifle season. You want to know what is a bad idea? To put me... the day dreamin, doesn't pay attention, easily bored, always tired, and hyper 16, almost 17, year old kid... in a treestand... all day... in the cold... with a gun... That's not going to end well. Let's just say that boredom and sleepiness came fast. I almost dozed off a few times and I had the hardest time sitting still. At the end of the day I saw 3 does and two fawns. That's it. I walked away freezing my ass off (among other things) and mentally insane from the lack of excitement. Didn't shoot a…

Thanksgiving has now passed, but not without some pain. Well, here's what has all happened... First off, it started out bad. My house only has one bathroom and that's for four people. My mom, just like any other women, takes FOREVER. I hade to wait until the very last moment to take a shower, get ready, and all that crap. So I'm being yelled at for it, yet I couldn't get in the bathroom. Okay... I couldn't even shave as I planned to (I let my facial hair grow... shave it every week or so). That and I have to wear what my mom wants me to. In this case, a striped long sleeved button down shirt. Not that there's anything wrong with it but I just don&…

So... what's on BV's mind this time, you ask? Well... I found out a new view in which I love about my Grand Am. I just love how it looks when you're looking at the front, not straight on, but slightly 3/4 where the mirror seems equal to end of the rear passenger window. Especially at night where the the body blacks out and the small amount of light hits the shiny innards of the lights. And with the hood up... sitting along side some road... in the cold... trying to get back home... while suffering from overheating... because I wanted to try my luck once again... since I was sick of staying home, not having a car, and to have my parent's continuously go out and leave me …

Flybrian's Random Car Showcase Presents... The 1993 Cadillac Sixty-Special Through boredom and...well, just boredom, I bring you the first in likely many little 'diaries' of a completely random car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Throughout Cadillac's history, the Sixty-Special moniker was used to denote trims of the Series 60 Cadillac that were in some ways - well - special. The very first model to bear the name was the 1938 Sixty-Special, featuring a longer wheelbase, lower ride height, and no runningboards. Over the years, Sixty-Specials typically had slightly extended wheelbases, more chrome decoration, a top-tier Cadillac model, or simply the highest trim level of the…

Some oil was drilled there. Hugh Downs of 20/20 fame worked there. Ford's 3.5l Duratec is made there as was Phyllis Diller. But it is home to one of America's - if not the world's - most experienced and respected coachworks: Superior Coaches. The 1956 Buick Centurion Through boredom and...well, just boredom, I bring you the second in likely many little 'diaries' of a completely random car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1956 Buick Centurion Of all General Motors divisions, Buick was arguably the most prolific builder of concept cars. Perhaps it was the motiff of classic American style and attainability that destined the middle-luxury marque to be the showcase for some of the most beautiful automobiles never to be produced. Beginning with the very first dream car - the 1938 Y-Job - Buick took center stage at GM's famed Motorama and gave us all something to fantasize ab…

Flybrian's Random Car Showcase Presents... The 1969 Buick Century Cruiser Through boredom and...well, just boredom, I bring you the fourth in likely many little 'diaries' of a completely random car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Looking back, the most engaging aspect of Detroit's golden age was not horsepower, luxury, or even styling. It was the fanciful imagination that guided designers and dreamers in producing their concept cars. The term of the day, however, was dream car and appropriately so. This was a time was technology flowed from the labs into our lives with such ease and successive rapidity that the future seemed but a few short years away. And since our wildest d…

I went to the DC auto show last night. The weather wasn't great and it was a Tuesday night, so it was pretty empty. Here are some random thoughts: The CTS-V interior is lame. The center stack has one big piece of plastic covering the whole thing, which felt cheap. Also the rear legroom was pathetic; there was more room in the Elantra and Golf. Also a serious lack of headroom. The Cruze is pretty good. It looks better in real life than in photos. The Camaro is too big. The Buick Verona is meh. It was spinning on a stand so I didn't see the interior, but the styling leaves something to be desired. I sat in an Aveo hatchback. I liked the little instrument pod a…

As my mother ages, she's gotten pretty frightened of thunderstorms, especially if there is a tornado watch involved. She lives in a trailer park, and keeps her little place neat as a pin. I guess having seen some of the destruction on the news over the years from storms in the midwest, has hightened her awareness. I usually use humor to try to calm her, and try to cite probability to show her that she'll be OK. Friday night, a tornado that was embedded in a thunderstorm, along with some destructive straight-line winds, blasted through her area, to within a mile of her home. She lost power, and said she heard a thunderous, constant roar for a while, but that she didn'…

I found this Park Avenue Ultra on ebay. Clicky. This is the first I've seen of one outfitted like this. According the ad... "This Buick was a level 3 engineer's car at Buick. The custom additions are all from Buick. That includes 2 way auto sunroof, Custom fiberglass skirts all the way around the car, Two tone leather seats, two tone interior, custom rear sport seats with lumber support. Full console with Buick emblem embedded in it. Buick emblem on hood is embedded in hood." I'm quite curious about it. Something like this rarely gets past me, but this one did until now. Does anyone know anything about it?

Information: http://www.geocities.com/conceptcarcentralusa/sagebrush.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just found this concept online today. I have never seen it in person, unfortuantely. Apparently this made the rounds on the 1991 auto show circuit to highlight the soon-to-be-release/all-new 1992 GMC Yukon 2-door. This isn't in any of the GMC books I have, and I find that disappointing. Has anyone here ever seen this truck before? This and the 1991 GMC Rio Grande concept/showtruck were shown together and shared development and parts.

It occurred to me today that I never shared any of my pictures from my trip last month, so now I guess would be as good a time as any! Very lucky to visit the Pima Air and Space Museum whose inventory includes a VC-137 like those used by Kennedy as well as Eisenhower's Constellation and Truman's DC-4. Not to mention a Convair B-36 Peacemaker. The Constellation has to be my all-time favorite aircraft so it was nice to finally see one in person. Also paid a visit to the Barry Goldwater memorial park and took in a Suns game.

In renting small cars overseas, it seems that the French have more mainstream automakers than many European countries. At any rate, the 3 brands I see in rental fleets tend to be Renault, Peugeot, and Citroen. I have driven the Peugeot 107 or 108 (about a decade ago) and, more recently, the Citroen C3. I have a cousin who had a Renault Twingo about 15 to 20 years ago and they still exist, although they've been updated with time. Is there a pecking order as to which French auto brand is better than the other?

I'm having a serious and quite horrible case of buyer's remorse. Today, I got up at eight a.m. and drove through Clay, Jackson, Laurel and Rockcastle Counties with the single hope that I would finally find a junkyard with some decent '80s GM iron. The Monte is in desperate need of new gauges (the speedometer and voltmeter are dead, the tach is going out, and the temp gauge now has a broken needle), new interior trim, a new multifunction lever, and a few miscellaneous engine parts, all of which negatively affect my car. The local junkyards pretty much have nothing. The solitary Monte I found at A&A Auto Parts, the junkyard located just 2 miles away from me, had an…

I don't have hardly any faith in humanity, as it seems like it has gotten impossible for people to drive a car worth a damn... but I've noticed a new trend in drivers' habit, at least in the Phila-NJ-NYC area, that I have so far called the Half-Ass Double Stop. So, how its done... you come to a complete stop at a stop sign, with the intention to make a left turn. You wait... but traffic is heavy in either direction. So you wait until there is nobody coming from your left for a bit and you pull halfway into the intersection. Now you sit... blocking traffic, as you wait until the traffic from the right gives you an opportunity to finish the turn. This is especially ha…

1973 Starlight Black Pontiac GTO 400 CID The owner whom orginally got the car lives in my town of Dubuque got this car new at a Pontiac dealer in my town. (Whom I never go to.) Still it is a neat piece and is in great shape with PHS and only 82K on the clock. The buy-it-now of $12,500 seems pretty fair. So what do all you think? If I had the money and an agreeable wife I would get it. Even though it isn't my favorite year of GTO still it is pretty sweet. I love the color combo and if it was a floor shift and 455 it would be even better. Not that a 400 is a pooch and it has a bench seat... Don't give me any ideas...

Basically, this is a spinoff of the car spotting thread. Whereas in it, we include the newest vehicles going on sale that we've started to see, here we talk about vehicles that we've only seen a few of over our lifetime. These are posted in the normal car spotting thread, too, but are generally overlooked. And since they can sometimes be interesting, I think they deserve their own thread. My rare cars are a white Triumph TR7, I actually had to look it up when I saw it, I didn't know what it was. I've seen one red Ferrari 360 Modena heading down the historic district here in Lexington. Two Bentley Continental GTs. Domestics would include the last gen Olds Torona…

So, I found some back up CD's from 2006. They contain a bunch of cool stuff from C&G past, as well as stuff from all over the internets. Most of this has been lost in the sands of time, so I think I will share some here. First up, is a repost from the "New GM" thread... Here is the Pontiac G6 we were supposed to get, before Bob Lutz had them simplify it! These pics come from the actual production G6 launch brochure: I made this image for C&G in '06 to show the pre-Lutz cues on the car we got: Here is a scan from GM Design showing the theme they were working on for the GMX295 program, aka 2004 Cadillac Seville. Well, as I alluded to in this thread, I had some pretty big plans this past weekend. My father and I drove 5.5 hours to Cortland NY for an estate auction. The reason for this journey: a 1969 Corvette convertible...yellow/black, 350/300 engine, auto, factory a/c. The body was a little rough and it needed some interior bits, but everything was there and the frame was good (C3 frames tend to rot around the door sills and in front of the rear wheels). For the right price, it would have made a worthwhile project, along with accomplishing my goal of owning a Corvette before I die. Now here's where it gets interesting. We had with us the Corvette Black Book, which had the engin…

Lets start with the Cobalt. Around the time I got the Cobalt last January I noted that there was this loud annoying rattle coming from the steering column when driving over rough road surface. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole steering column stating that there was a design defect with the steering column where there was excessive backlash in the electric steering gears causing the noise. They replace it, noise goes away. Heaven only knows for what reason but almost a year later the noise is back. I understand that GM is suing the supplier over the defect, but it's a pain in the ass. Also the front door panels on the Cobalt are making this annoying c…

Post one of several... On more than one occasion, I was asked by locals if I was Greek. In fact, I am not. One could take that, though, to mean I'd be welcome there, and I'd certainly consider a move to Greece if circumstances would merit so dramatic a life-change. It's an amazing country full of amazing people - direct and quite frank, but friendly and warm even to strangers and foreigners. We left Saint Louis for Atlanta at 10:00 am on September 13th, where we waited for seven hours for our overnight flight to Athens. It was an unpleasant flight - ten-plus hours with an unhappy newborn and a 2-y/o who liked to kick seats immediately behind me - there …

I was out and about, and bought this for my son's birthday. That got me thinking about getting an RC car of my own. Maybe this 1:24 Chevy Wrangler (I laughed when I saw that on the website) or an FJ Cruiser/Hummer type off roader so I can play with it in the back yard. Toys R Us did have a couple cars that I'm interested in, one is a green Barracuda that looked pretty cool, the other is a Porsche 911 that is incredibly detailed, but $65 for something that I'm going to burn the motor out on then disassemble for fun seems like a waste. Wal-Mart did have a Hot Wheels BMW M6 on clearance, but I hate RC cars that only use AA batteries.

That epiphany is this: Australia knows how to build a better American car than we do. These videos from Top Gear Australia only prove that point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eHZhsF8hwI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTjV3EeFrf8 I have to wonder, where are our bold, brazen Chevelles, Impalas, and Novas? Australia has the Commodore and Falcon that openly embrace the American muscle car values that we desired so long ago. Sure, we have the Commodore here as the G8 and it's a great car, but we don't deserve it. The average, stupid, fat, lazy American doesn't understand what a car of the Commodore/G8's magnitude represents. And that brings me to another point: since …

It's something I'm thinking about obtaining. I know the market isn't exactly booming and bustling, but maybe there's still decent money in it. I need to do something during much more productive than doing odd jobs and failing at finding full-time work during this period of "downtime" I'm having while I figure out what course of action I should take during college. Perhaps a local firm will hire me and give me a decent salary plus commission. And say if the degree I obtain in college fails to find me permanent full-time work for a period of one or two years, this could be something I can fall back on. I wonder how long it would take to get one outside of an "online cours…

They did sometimes ahve good articles...but Sport Compact car is dead. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/source-...laying-off-115/ I think the whole Japanese tuner thing is seeming to die down, at least outside of southern Cali. This may indeed point that direction. Chris

Link: Fake Craigs List Ad-- "Men hungry for sex besieged a Brooklyn woman with phone calls after spotting a bogus ad on Craigslist that said she was looking to turn tricks to pay off Christmas debt The callers were responding to the racy ad, which read: "I'm a real hottie looking to earn extra cash to pay off Christmas debt." The data entry specialist had to change her phone number. "I don't want to constantly look over my shoulder," she said. O'Malley said she was further peeved when Craigslist would not help her locate the pervert." -- Theres lots of dirty stuff on the internet but I think this ranks right up there.

So few latest discussions gave me an idea for the following Dream/Reality garage: Pick the following cars that you would buy with YOUR own money if you were buying in the segment to be your daily driver: 1. compact car (sedan/hatch/wagon) 2. compact CUV/SUV 3. mid-size car 4. mid-size CUV/SUV 5. large car 6. large CUV/SUV

So, I saw this commercial last night...BMW 3er commercial. I thought it was really well done, especially the very end which made me smile a lot. The last segment of the video shows Bimmerfest, the definitive, annual BMW gathering in the nation. It happens every year in Santa Barbara, California at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. This year it happened May 5th (Drinko de Mayo! Yeah baby!) and it was a great turnout. The first shot is of the E21 3er's with their hoods popped. One of my buddy's on another forum named Matt has the red one, and he couldn't believe it...Pretty awesome. My car is somewhere in the second shot...it is a very large venue with a huge turnout...It isn't …

As the title states, what expensive cars would you like to own if you had the ability to purchase one and why? I'm thinking cars at or near six figure range. For me, in the following order: Aston Martin V8 Vantage Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV Bentley Continental GT I love the looks of the V8 Vantage inside and out. It's one of my favorite designs...elegant and timeless. It will look stunning decades later. Plus it makes quite a noise and handles well. I've always liked the Murcielago, but this last hurrah for the car is my favorite. It looks sinister and over the top...like a Lamborghini should. I love the sound of an American V8 but tha…

So, I pull into the driveway and stop to collect the trash cans. I use the dash switch to open the rear hatch in my new Tahoe and load in the cans. Truck is running while I do this. I close up the back and go to the driver's door. The Tahoe has locked itself with my only key in the ignition. I try multiple "tools" to get at the lock switch on the door while I try to balance on the running board. I slip. I smack the side-view mirror with my hand, breaking it. After about an hour and a half of trying, I manage to operate the lock switch. One direction - no result The other direction - no result So I go for the window switch and finally get into the truck. I have s…

Yeah I can't believe I am asking this... Will a 2005 Impala LS with the premium CD player like shown here only with out the tape deck play burned CD's/MP3 formated music say from iTunes? I think it works in my Bonneville and never tried in the Torrent because I know it can't at least I think, because it was the standard l-cheapo cd-deck and its has an AUX input for my Nano. Anyways anyone know? Here is the stero in question, mine will be the same minus the tape deck. My 2001 only has a AM/FM/Tape with RDS, FYI that is partly why I am wondering... Anyways the photo... Sorry about the photo it was the best I could do... Any help or comments would help alot, thanks in…

I was on vacation in late May / early June. I will be relocating in 1 year. I walked into an open house for a townhome. It was a very nice townhome. I told the lady I wasn't interested, but she got my cell and PO Box....I'm quite a ways from her geographically, anyway. Learning that her husband is a physician made me less concerned about how much time she has expended and will continue to waste. It was a three day weekend for me and I get a call on third day (fortunately, the phone was off) if I wanted to go look at houses. First, it's my last day of vacation, bitch. Second, I am not going to swoop into town and buy a house on such short notice because it suits yo…

Seems like this is a common problem with the newer GM cars. I find it relatively difficult to park my G6, compared to my Cavalier. I suppose it's mostly because it's a larger car, but the rear seems to be "on the high side", and it takes longer for me to make sure there's no car in my blind spot and no one behind. I'm always freaked out that I might hit the cars next to me when backing in. Other cases: - MPH complained about the rear visibility on the G6 coupe in their video Q&A - Gone through MSN autos in the user review section of the Cobalt, people who have one love it, but complains about blind spot visibility. Anybody have the same trouble?

A good buddy at work and fellow pre-war car fan (esp. Buick) got hit by a dumb lady in a Highlander... but he was on his "beater" bike, a late 1970s Honda. Damn near got killed. He said the lady in the Toyota NEVER looked, beeped his horn not once but twice as she ran the stop sign, braced for impact & then 3sec. later he had a bent fork, fu&$ed up hand/wrist/leg/arm not to mention a host of other injuries & damage to the bike. Sooooo fu#%ing typical of a Toyota owner. If you walk into a Toyota dealership chances are you should really be buying a buss pass, economy pack of metemucil &/or extra-absorbent depends. (not to make light …

Okay, guys. Start making a list of what you think the one or two top vehicles per brand will be (or are) that will bring each brand back into the spotlight for GM, as a whole, to prosper like it once did. I'll start: Buick: A Zeta sedan.. Right now, nothing's happening at Buick except talk. The Enclave might draw its own crowd, too, but it might not get enough talk. Cadillac: A&S v1 did it essentially, but the '08 CTS will really get them going Chevrolet: Camaro and Impala. Two pre-existing vehicles on a brand new platform with much better quality, design, and technology. Chevy Trucks/GMC: The Avalanche and rest of the 900 fleet look amazing; this'll do it. Give t…

Recall: Various Volvos, Different DCXs, Few Fords The government announced four auto recalls Wednesday affecting about 300,600 vehicles. More than half of the vehicles being recalled -- 170,099 -- are Volvo passenger cars, station wagons and SUVs from the 1999-2002 model years, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. Volvo Cars of North America, a unit of Ford Motor Co., is recalling vehicle speed controls on some C70, C70 convertible, S60, S70, S80, V70, V70XC and XC70 models. A malfunctioning electronic throttle module may cause the vehicles to unnecessarily go into "limp home" mode, in which the vehicle's speed is limited to 10 to 30 m.p.h., NHTSA s…

Yup, the Colorado has been recalled for a potentially faulty brake light switch at the pedal. I got the letter yesterday. Affected vehicles will either have inoperative brake lights, or "always on" brake lights. Cruise control will also be inoperative because the circuit runs through that switch. I haven't had a problem with my truck, but I'll still take it in to have it done. It will be 3 years old end of next month, it's a first-year model and this is the first recall notice I've gotten for it. I'd say that's not a bad record, comparatively. I can only hope the new truck is as good. And thanks again, Mr. Fly, for the heads up a while back.

Date posted: 07-29-2006 WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Chrysler Group is recalling 146,195 Jeep Grand Cherokees because cooling-fan blades may break and cause injuries to bystanders if the hood of the vehicle is open. At the same time, Toyota will recall more than 9400 early-model 2007 FJ Cruisers because of potential tire defects. The Jeep recall involves 2000 and 2002 Grand Cherokees with the 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engines. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the automaker collected nearly 200 complaints about broken fans. Chrysler Group will begin a national notification of owners of the Grand Cherokee in August. NHTSA also reported that the inner bead of t…

So, I've seen a couple horrible things as of late, and I thought I'd share my pain. The first one was an Element with a "Hummer H0.5" badge. The second was a Shadow with a grille from a 95-02 Sunfire slapped on top of its own. The Shadow grille is pretty much vertical, with a horizontal bumper below it - So the Sunfire grille laid above both, making a 45 degree angle to each, with big triangular holes on both sides where the grille didn't line up with the rest of the car. Awful. NSX with red Honda badge. Why do people do this? You don't see anyone putting a Chevy badge on a Cadillac.

I rarely ever see commercials, w/ tiVo, but happened to catch some while catching up on last night's South Park... the Kia Soul ad is clever, with the hamsters. The Burger King Squarebutts ad is trippy (with a cameo by Sir Mix-a-Lot and a reworking of his seminal song, 'Baby Got Back')... saw a strange Cheetos ad also.
