Ford will be debuting the redesigned EcoSport subcompact crossover next week in Los Angeles. This information was revealed by rapper DJ Khaled last night on Snapchat who would be helping out with the introduction. “Monday I’m introducing the Ford EcoSport. It’s going to be a world premiere with the new Ford EcoSport,” said Khaled in the video. A Ford spokeman comfirmed to Automotive News that they would be showing the EcoSport next week, but didn't say anything about a possible sales date. The EcoSport is Ford's entrant in the growing subcompact crossover class. The crossover has been sold around the world since the introduction of the second-generation mod…

Previous Page Next Page Previous Page Next Page The subcompact crossover is growing at quick pace with a number of automakers either selling or planning to introduce a model. Case is point is Ford which last night in Los Angeles debuted a revised version of the EcoSport subcompact crossover. Built on the bones of the Fiesta, the revised EcoSport looks like an Escape hit with shink-ray. Compared to the current model sold overseas, Ford has changed the front and rear fascias, and updated the head and taillights. We don't get the external rear-mounted spare tire like in other markets, but the the side-hinged rear tailgate…

http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayServlet...n=2&docid=21427 I'm really looking forward to seeing the Solstice GXP, especially now after my dealership just recieved three Solstices tonight and this was my second time sitting in a production model. I could have bought the one unsold Sly (dark gray) Solstice if I wanted to put a deposit down to hold it or if I wanted to do a deal tonight, but I would much rather have the GDI turbo engine GXP over the base model anyday. They have a waiting list of people so someone will probably buy it tomorrow.

Honda creatively hid most of the Passport in a dust plume for one photo and zoomed out the vehicle in another. That said, we can make out that the Passport will share a number of design cues with the larger Pilot. The automaker touts the model will be built at their Lincoln, Alabama plant - home to the Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline. This likely means the Passport will be sharing the platform underpinning the Pilot and Ridgeline. "The new Passport is a more personal, powerful and off-road-capable SUV that hits the sweet spot between daily driving comfort and weekend off-road, all-weather adventure capability," said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of Am…

It is no secret that Jaguar Land Rover has been hard at work on developing electric vehicles. For the past few months, we have been reporting that the British automaker will be launching an electric crossover within the next couple of years. Last night at an event in Los Angeles, Jaguar unveiled the I-Pace concept. This is a preview of a production model that will be arriving in 2018. Depending on the angle, the I-Pace either looks like a crossover or hatchback. But one item is clear with the I-Pace concept's design, it borrows a fair amount from the C-X75 concept. From the heavily sculpted hood, raked windshield, and rectangular grille, it is clear that the C-…

Ahead of the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, Kia released a teaser shot of the 2020 Kia Soul due to be unveiled on November 28th. In addition to the standard gasoline and gas-turbocharged models, an updated "gas-free" electric model with a larger 39kw battery borrowed from the Kia Niro and an estimated 140 mile range will be shown. However, Kia states that the 2020 Soul EV, like the current model, will be limited to sale only in certain states. We tested the 2017 Kia Soul Exclaim with the 1.6 liter turbo and found it to be a fun and capable little runabout. The all-new 2020 Kia Soul will go on sale next year. View full article

Los Angeles - Kia unveiled the 2021 Kia Seltos at the Los Angeles Auto Show today. The Seltos brings a new level of ruggedness and refinement to the entry level crossover segment. The Seltos slots between the Kia Soul and Kia Sportage in the brand's lineup. It has a longer wheelbase than is typical and a long hood to give it a sense of size though in a small package. Front and rear skid plates and black wheel arches emphasize off-road capability, and the standard AWD on the base model makes that capability a reality. The Seltos is powered by either a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 146 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft of torque or an up-level 1.6-liter Tu…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 26, 2012 If you wanted a 'sporty minivan', you had the choice of either the Dodge Caravan "Man Van" or Toyota Senna SE. Debuting at the 2012 LA Auto Show is a third contender into 'sporty minivan' category with the new 2013 Chrysler Town & Country S. The S is mostly an appearance package that includes a black chrome grille, black-accented wheels and blacked-out headlight inserts, and four different colors (black, red, white and silver) for the exterior. Inside, the blackout continues a black headliner and combination leather and cloth seats. Tech wise, the Town & Country S comes standard with Chrysler's…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 29, 2012 Honda has pulled the covers off the new 2013 Civic lineup today at the L.A. Auto show with hopes to quell the complaints from automotive journalists while still kicking butt in sales. As we saw earlier this month in a tease, Honda designers made tweaks the Civic's front, bringing it in line with new Accord with a black honeycomb mesh grille and a redesigned lower bumper with chrome trim. The back end has some elements of the new Accord as well. The Civic's cabin design hasn't changed but what has are more soft touch materials used throughout, new fabrics, and the use more soundproofing materials. Stand…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 28, 2012 Hyundai showed the new Santa Fe in concept form at the New York Auto Show this year and has now introduced the production model today at the L.A. Auto Show. The Santa Fe is almost the same as the Santa Fe Sport in many key areas except for one key area, space. The Santa Fe has an extra 3.9 inches in wheelbase which brings forth more legroom in the second row (about two inches), a useable third row, and more cargo space (80 cu.ft. will all of the seats folded). Power comes in the form of a 3.3L GDI V6 producing 290 HP and 252 lb-ft of torque which is coupled to a six speed automatic. You have the choice…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 28, 2012 Earlier this year at the New York Auto Show, Acura unveiled the RLX concept which featured a hybrid system and Acura's SH-AWD. Knowing Honda and Acura's concept track record, we would be seeing this as a production model in short time. Sure enough today at the L.A. Auto Show, Acura introduced the production model RLX. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 27, 2012 The Chevrolet Spark produces 84 HP and 83 lb-ft of torque from a 1.25L inline-four. The new 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV produces 130 HP and a mind-blowing 400 lb-ft of torque from an electric motor. 0-60 MPH time? Around the high-seven second range. Even with these performance stats, GM says the Spark EV will have the best EV range in its segment thanks to a 20-kWh lithium ion battery. If you're looking for a number, GM is keeping mum on that. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 26, 2012 After months of speculation, questions, and wild guesses, Ford has unveiled the new Fiesta ST before its offical showing at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show this week. Much like the Focus ST, the Fiesta ST will only come in a five-door hatch (sorry, no three-door model for the states). The Fiesta ST makes its presence known to everyone thanks to sportier front fascia with a lower chin spoiler, blacked-out mesh grille, exclusive 17-inch wheels, rear diffuser and dual exhaust outlets, and an available Molten Orange exterior paint color. A bit surprising is how much power is under the hood of the Fiesta ST. Ford o…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 29, 2012 Kia has been on a roll as of late with sales climbing 18% this year, despite one of its key products, the compact Forte lineup is one of the oldest vehicles in the lineup. Kia is hoping to rectify that with the brand 2014 Forte sedan shown yesterday at the L.A. Auto Show. We've had a sneak peak earlier this year when Kia introduced the K3 and it was assumed this would be coming here to the states. Sure enough, that is what happened. The new Forte shares many of the common design traits on newer Kias; large grille, LED light strips along the headlights, and a sweptback profile. Under the hood are two fo…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 29, 2012 When Kia introduced the 2014 Sorento at the L.A. Auto Show, the first thought in most people's mind was this; wait, isn't that the current Sorento? Well no. Kia says more than 80% of the Sorento's parts are new or significantly redesigned. Most of those being under the skin and inside. That doesn't mean Kia didn't make any changes to the exterior. The 2014 model gets tweaks both the front and rear fascia, LEDs and available fog lamps to the nose of the CUV, widened the opening on the lower front valence, and a new range of wheels from 17 to 19 inches. Inside, the changes are apparent. The 2014 model ge…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 28, 2012 Earlier this month, Mitsubishi President Osamu Masuko said this, "We have no intention whatsoever of withdrawing from the U.S. market. The U.S. market is a very important market." This was in response to Suzuki vehicles leaving the U.S. Masuko said that despite decline the brand is currently experiencing, he expects sales to creep back up with the introduction of new products. Today at the L.A. auto show, we got our first peek at one of the new products in the form of the 2014 Outlander. Compared to the outgoing Outlander, the new 2014 is much more sleeker. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 28, 2012 When Porsche showed off the new Boxster roadster earlier this year, we knew sooner or later, a new Cayman would arrive. Today at the L.A. Auto Show, the new Cayman arrived. If you wanted to describe the design of the new Cayman to someone, just say its like a Boxster with a roof. Much like the Boxster, the Cayman uses a 2.7L flat-six producing 275 HP, while the Cayman S uses a 3.5L flat-six producing 325 HP. The run up 60 MPH takes 5.1 seconds* with the 2.7 and 4.4 seconds* with the 3.5. A six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK are your transmission choices. (*Note: 0-60 times are based on Cayman models …

The 500e drops the 1.4L inline-four for a electric motor that produces 111 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 28, 2012 The Hyundai Veloster is already a unique vehicle, being a three-door alien-styled hatchback. Today at the L.A. LA 2007: 2007 Nissan Sentra SE-R/Spec V When Nissan first launched the Sentra SE-R in 1991, it helped establish the concept of a “sport compact” car. With a high performance 4-cylinder engine stuffed into a compact body, the original SE-R offered sports car-like performance for buyers on a budget. Enthusiasts and the media recognized this unique combination of performance and value and the Sentra SE-R became an instant hit – and has maintained a loyal following through two successive generations of SE-R. The latest incarnation of the SE-R joins the Nissan lineup in March 2007 with two exciting versions, the Sentra SE-R and the higher horsepower Sentra SE-R Spec V. …

Acura sent out a teaser shot of the refreshed and soon to be revealed 2016 Acura ILX sedan. Calling the refresh "substantially new", Acura is straddling the gap between "refreshed" and "all-new" with the ILX. While the ILX will remain on the same platform, the powertrain is new, the exterior has been more aggressively styled, and the interior has been upgraded. The ILX has never been the sales star Acura hoped for. In spite of tweaking the package multiple times since introduction, sales of the ILX are down over 16% year to date after moving only 20,430 units in 2013, its first full year on the market. Subaru sent out a teaser picture of the Subaru Impreza Sedan concept due to be shown at the LA Auto Show next week. When Dodge unveiled the refreshed 2015 Charger at the New York Auto Show, everyone knew that a refresh for the 300 wouldn't be that far behind. Sure enough, Chrysler pulled the covers off the 2015 300 at the LA Auto Show today. The 2015 300 hasn't quite gone though the massive exterior refresh like the Charger, but Chrysler designers made sure changes were made to heighten its attitude. The front grille has been enlarged slightly and features different finishes dependent on the trim. New lights for the front and back, updated rear bumper styling, and rectangular exhaust outlets finish off the exterior. Wheel choices range from standard 17-inches all the way to 20-inches.…

Available in two models, the Macan is Porsche's attempt to create a sports car in the compact crossover segment. Porsche sees a growing market for Hi-Po grocery-getters. The Macan S is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 340 horsepower and can accelerate the car to 60 mph in 5 seconds flat. If that doesn't get your groceries home fast enough, you can opt for the Macan Turbo which packs a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 pumping out 400 horsepower and enabling a 4.4 second sprint to 60. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 20, 2013 A few months after Subaru showed off the WRX Concept at the New York Auto Show, the company revealed the 2015 WRX today at the LA Auto Show. The WRX does have a somewhat family resemblance to the current Impreza, but Subaru designers have done a few things to make the WRX stand on its own. There are new front and rear fenders, new rear doors, hood scoop, bumpers, and headlights that are either halogen or LED (dependent on the trim level). A set of blacked-out seventeen-inch alloy wheels, finish off the WRX's exterior. Inside, the WRX features more space, better materials, and wide set of convenience an…

Let us go back in time to March of this year. It was at the Geneva Motor Show where Audi introduced the world to the third-generation TT Coupe and Cabriolet. Audi gave out information on what certain markets could expect with the TT, but the U.S. was left out. Well, Audi will be bringing over the 2016 TT Coupe and Cabriolet for its North America debut at the LA Auto Show next week. Compared to the European-Spec Audi TT, the North American TT is slightly different in power and model variations. The base TT uses a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, down 10 horsepower and 14 pound-feet to the European model. The TTS packs 292 h…

Consider this: 23 percent of all Ford vehicles sold in the U.S. is a utility vehicle. By 2020, the blue oval expects that number to climb to 29 percent. For Ford, crossovers and SUVs are a big deal. Case in point is the 2016 Explorer. While this updated model is drastically changing how the company is planning to build crossovers in the future, it does keep the Explorer in the hunt for buyers. The biggest change for the Explorer is the introduction of the 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder, which will take the place of the 2.0L EcoBoost. The 2.3 makes 270 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the 2.0 EcoBoost, the 2.3 can be had with either front or all-wheel drive. T…

The rollout of the next-generation Civic continues with the reveal of the 2016 Civic Coupe at the LA Auto Show today. The production Civic coupe carries a lot of the design that we first saw on the concept shown at New York back in April. From a large chrome bar that flows into the headlights on the front end, to a sloping roofline and sculpting running along the doors, its clear that Honda wants to make Civic coupe standout. One nice touch we like the is how the rear taillight runs along the trunk to the quarter panels. Compared to the sedan, the Civic coupe is about 5.5 inches shorter in overall length and a slightly lower roof. The Civic Coupe's interior is sim…

Next up in the subcompact crossover fest at the LA Auto Show is the 2016 Honda HR-V. Now we've seen different variations of this new model since it was introduced in Japan last year. Now we get the specs for the North American version. While the HR-V is based on the new Fit, the styling is heavily influenced by the larger CR-V with similar front ends and roof shape. But the HR-V has its own unique design touches such as the rear door handles integrated in the rear pillar. The HR-V has an overall length for the new model is 169.1 inches, about 10 inches shorter than the CR-V. But on wheelbases, the two models are very close. The HR-V rides on a 102.8-inch wheelbase, just …

At the 2015 LA Auto Show today, Buick unveiled the 2017 Buick LaCrosse. Using a phrase that was once a selling point for cars in the 1950, Buick released details on the Lacrosse for 2017 to make it longer, lower, and wider. but unlike the 1950s, Buick is now adding "lighter" to the list. The 2017 LaCrosse's chassis drops 300 lbs from the outgoing model, yet through the use of stronger steel, the chassis is stronger. Some of the weight loss also comes from new materials used in Buick's Quiet Tuning process that are lower in weight. With that weight loss, Buick expects the 2017 to be more fuel efficient than it's predecessor. Adding to the fuel economy gain is a new…

What might have been one of the worst-kept secrets in the automotive world has finally been revealed today at the LA Auto Show. This is the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider which is the result of the partnership between Fiat and Mazda. You might remember this vehicle was originally destined for Alfa Romeo a few years back, before Alfa decided to do their own Spider and the project was shifted to Fiat. The first thing you notice about the 124 Spider is the polarizing design. Fiat says the design pays homage to the original 124 Spider from the sixties with an upright front end and rounded headlights. Towards the back is an oddly shaped trunk lid and rectangular taillights. …

One of those changes is air curtains in the front to reduce wind resistance. Up front is a new hexagonal grille seen on the company's crossovers and new HID headlights with LED daytime running lights. Mitsubishi is updating the Mirage economy hatchback for 2017. It gets a refreshed exterior along with some interior and technology updates. Likely the most important change to buyers will be the addition of Android Auto and Apple Car play in the infotainment system. With the addition of these two technologies, buyers have an inexpensive way to add features like Navigation and Apps to their car, features that are not often found in vehicles at the Mirage's low price point. The exterior changes are light with an updated front end and rear bumper. The 3-cylinder engine remains the only power plant, but with a slight bump in power to 78 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torq…

After months of speculation, the wait is over. This morning, Ford announced the new 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang. Lets begin with the most important part of any Shelby, the engine. Under the hood is a 5.2L V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft producing over 500 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. What's the big deal with a flat-plane crankshaft V8 you may ask? Well a flat-plane crankshaft V8 can produce more power and rev higher than a standard V8. This is due to how the flat-plane crankshaft V8 is setup. The connecting rods of the pistons lie 180 degrees from each other, not the standard 90 degrees seen on most V8 engines. This power will flow to the rear-wheels via a six…

Slotting in below the recently enlarged Infiniti QX40, the QX30 arrives staying true to the looks of the Infiniti QX30 Concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2015. This is the first Infiniti built in Europe at a new facility in the UK which will be supplying the vehicle to all global markets. Much of the hardware under the hood is stock Mercedes. If you thought Lamborghini for all but forgotten about rear-wheel drive, then the introduction of the Huracán LP580-2 at the LA Auto Show should give you joy. The Huracán LP580-2 drops the all-wheel drive system found on other Huracán models, allowing the LP580-2 weigh about 73 pounds lighter than standard Huracán. Now with the all-wheel drive system gone, Lamborghini's enginners made some changes 5.2L V10 engine. The V10 produces 571 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque in the LP580-2, down 32 horsepower and 15 pound-feet when compared to the regular Huracán. But the performance figures of 3.4 seconds to 60 MPH and a top speed of 199 MPH means Lamborghini hasn't f…

California, a place known for its abundance of sunshine was the place that Lexus showed off a drop-top concept. The LF-C2 serves as a preview for design cues to come on future Lexus products. But it also likely gives us a sneak peek into a possible RC convertible. The convertible's exterior is all crisp creases and sharp angles. The front features the largest version of Lexus' spindle grille yet and triangle headlights. A bright golden yellow paint job and a set of five-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels give the vehicle a bit of distinction. If you're wondering where the convertible top is, don't try and look. The LF-C2 is strictly an open top affair. The LF-C2's interior is …

Mazda is the latest automaker to jump on the subcompact crossover train with the introduction of the 2016 CX-3 the night before the LA Auto Show kicks off. The CX-3 is based on the next-generation Mazda2 and compared to the CX-5, its about a foot shorter. But park a CX-3 and CX-5 side by side and it's hard to tell difference. The CX-3 features Mazda's KODO design language which features flowing lines to highlight the wheel arches and a higher beltline, along with a trapezoidal grille with the trim extending into the headlights. Mazda designers blacked out the rear pillar to give the feeling of the roof floating. Inside the CX-3 is a tidy and clean space. The dash layout…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 21, 2013 Alongside the new GT-R NISMO, Nissan's performance arm had a couple more surprises up its sleeve at LA Auto Show. First up was a more powerful Juke NISMO called the NISMO RS. The Juke NISMO RS takes the standard Juke's turbocharged and direct-injected 1.6L four-cylinder and boosts it to produce 215 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque (211 horsepower and 184 pound-feet when equipped with all-wheel drive and the CVT). This is due to a remapped ECU, stronger connecting rods, and a new exhaust. Transmissions include a six-speed manual with a stronger clutch cover and dual-mass flywheel, or Nissan's Xtr…

Have you wanted a Range Rover Evoque, but wished that it didn't have that pesky roof? Land Rover has the vehicle for you. Last night, the British automaker revealed the 2016 Range Rover Evoque Convertible. The Evoque Convertible looks for the most part like the Coupe aside from the fabric roof. This roof maintains the profile of the Evoque when it is up. Folding the roof only takes about 18 seconds thanks to a power mechanism, and you can do it at speeds up to 30 MPH. The top is designed to fold into a certain way that the front part looks like a tonneau cover when stowed away. The Evoque Convertible is also one the first vehicles in the Land Rover lineup to debut…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 11, 2013 When Subaru showed off the WRX Concept at the New York Auto Show in April, it was very much well received not only by the press, but by everyone. It could be a good omen for Subaru as they have announced the production version of WRX will debut at the LA Auto Show next week. The company released a teaser shot which gives some idea of what the production model will look like. From what we can tell, the overall shape of the production model has been toned down a bit. But there are key items from the concept that remain such as a large grille opening and the hood scoop. We're expecting the WRX recipe to s…

November 19th, 2013 Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com Along with dropping trou on the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, the Edmunds video responsible for the most recent LA Auto Show picture leaks also totally pantses the Subaru WRX,shown here playing in the dirt. Update: Edmunds has since removed the video from Youtube. We saw some teaser pictures of the 2015 Subaru WRX about a week ago, so the overall look isn't much of a surprise, but it is nice to see it here finally in full view. The Subaru WRX has never been a real looker as far as sports cars go, but enthusiasts don't seem to mind. This latest iteration looks rough and ready to run. …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 18, 2013 The MINI has always been a vehicle of small stature. But since the introduction of the new MINI Cooper in 2002, it has been steadily growing in size. Now with the introduction of the new third-generation model today, we might have to change the name from MINI to MACRO. Here's what I mean. Compared to the current MINI Cooper, the 2014 MINI Cooper is 4.5 inches longer, 1.3 inches wider, and rides on a 1.1 inch longer wheelbase. Its also hard to tell the difference between the design-wise. To tell the differences, you have to get up close to begin to pick out the differences. Little clues such as a larger…

Being a two person outfit is somewhat difficult when covering an auto show. With one on press release and story writing duty, and other trying to get pictures at the show, that means we can't cover all of the reveals. But that doesn't mean we're not going to give their due. We picked some of the vehicles that are important and/or interesting that debuted at LA. 2016 Acura ILX Acura is trying to right the ship of the compact ILX. Since its introduction only a couple of years ago, the ILX has dropped both the base 2.0L four and Hybrid model, leaving just the 2.4 model. Now for the 2016 model year, Acura hopes to address many of the shortcomings with ILX. First…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 13, 2013 Earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show, Lincoln unveiled the MKC Concept. The concept was a preview of a new Lincoln model that would come sometime later this year. Many of us praised the MKC Concept since it didn't look like a carbon copy of a Ford vehicle. But there was concern that the production model would not look like the concept at all. Well, take a deep breath as Lincoln has unveiled the 2015 MKC before its official debut at the LA Auto Show next week and it looks pretty close to the concept. The MKC Concept and production model are almost identical in design. Up front is Lincoln's spit-win…

Oh Volkswagen, why must you tease us? You have done it before with the Passat Alltrack concept and Golf GTD. Why must you try to break our hearts? Such is the case of the Golf R Variant (Wagon or Sportwagen to you or I) that will be debuting at the LA Auto Show this week. The Golf R Variant takes the standard Golf R and makes it a bit more practical. It still uses a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four with 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, paired to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. With Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system, the Golf R Variant can hit 60 MPH in 5.1 seconds. Other features that carry over for the Golf R Variant include the ESC Sport stabil…

LA Preview: Mazda Nagare Concept HIROSHIMA, Japan – Mazda Motor Corporation today announced the global reveal of an all-new concept car, Nagare (pronounced na-gah-reh), at the Greater Los Angeles International Auto Show, during a press conference at 4:05 PM on November 29, 2006. Following on the heels of three very successful and exploratory Mazda design concepts – Kabura, Sassou and Senku – from last year’s show season, Nagare is the first indication of Mazda’s future design direction. According to Mazda’s newly appointed global design director, Laurens van den Acker, Nagare sums up the future of Mazda design in one deceptively simple word -Flow. “Nagare is a celebr…

My initial impression of this show: - Glad I didn't pay to get in - Even happier that I don't live in California (Proposed standards c. 2015) - Japan can't do a decent concept to save its skin Thumbs down generally on this show.

I opened and closed hundreds of doors, sat in a bunch of seats, fingered plenty of dashboards, and took a few pictures. After several hours everything seems about the same, with cars roughly being "nice", "acceptable", or "awful", and since you can't drive any of them, you're limited to styling, design, build quality, and fit-and-finish. There were only a few cars I genuinely liked or thought stood out. In no particular order... Sequoia - what an irrelevant POS; interior seems crude and unrefined, dash is right off the Tundra, the center console is like 2 feet wide; the only thing it has over the Tahoe are usable third-row seats Hyundai - what a lame brand; you can cle…

Went to LAIAS today - and my eyes are still dazzled by the shiny paint, chrome, and display lighting. Glitzy environments like today's make cars seem more or less the same. Most automakers have improved their line-ups to the point very few vehicles have noticeable flaws. Most cars were "nice" - but few stood out as being particularly amazing. GM The standout from GM was the 9-5. It's a very attractive design that manages to look exotic and unique without being flashy and vulgar. Pictures don't do it justice. Speaking of Saab, they were the only GM division that was properly branded - they had a bright, icy cool Scandinavian exhibit with its own display floor. Buick, GM…
