  5. TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's best-selling newspaper has launched a competition to find the best cartoon about the Holocaust in retaliation for the publication in many European countries of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad. The Brussels-based Conference of European Rabbis (CER) denounced the idea and urged the Muslim world to do likewise. The daily paper Hamshahri said the contest was designed to test the boundaries of free speech -- the reason given by many European newspapers for publishing the cartoons of the Prophet. It's now been six consecutive years that I've attended the North American International Auto Show. Two years ago, not long after the start of the country-wide recession, I posted a review of the show which revealed the automotive depression running deep into the veins of all those in this industry. Last year, this disheartening feeling was so bad that I didn't even post a review. Although Ford was doing better, GM and Chrysler had just been bailed out by the government and their future existence still seemed to be somewhat up in the air. Porsche, Nissan, and others skipped out on the show completely, and the most expensive car at the show was tucked inconspicuously in a l…

Hey guys, So I've decided that the northeast, and especially the NYC area, is just getting too pricey for my tastes. I've been feeling that way for a while but couldn't really think of where I might consider relocating to since everyone I know lives in this area and I’m not keen on the idea of moving somewhere on my own just for a change of pace. My family situation has finally given me another direction to consider. My parents and my brother and his family (wife and 3 kids) are relocating to Charlottesville VA. They have lived together for the last seven years to their mutual advantage since my dad has MS and he and my mom need help around the house while my brothe…

I was at the grocery store and sawr a maroon Focus sedan, a few years old, with two bumper stickers, I was hoping someone, somewhere, may have an idear what they mean: one was a strip, about a foot wide and less than an inch tall, with all the colors of the rainbow. The other was white lettering on a green background, with a word I've been unable to find in Webster's: "VAGINATARIAN". I'm usually pretty good with words, but this has me stumped. Any idears?

  44. At the moment, it's the new Ford Focus ST. In Europe, it undercuts the pricing of the Golf GTI by a lot, so it could very well sell for $19,995 in the States. I still think the Golf is classier, but the Focus has more character and better performance. Sending the entire new Focus line-up here would be difficult, but not just the ST. It'd be one of those low-volume, image-building niche cars. Hmm, also, sending the Alfa 159 and Brera here would benefit the style-conscious. I'm doubtful it's as thorough as the 3, but it is cool, in the literal sense of cool. They could sell 'em at Maserati stores.

Alright alcoholics, booze hounds, bums, winos and frat boys, we need an alcohol thread, it just seems like the perfect compliment to our sex thread. I'll start: The $3 bottles of wine they sell at Wal-Mart suck majorly. So whats your drink of choice? What do you avoid like the plague?

Inspired by the top 3 rock n' roll songs thread, list 5 to 10 (or whatever you feel like) rock songs that get on your nerves. They may not necessarily be bad songs, just overplayed and overhyped. BTO - Takin' Care of Business Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like a Lady (I like Aerosmith...but I hate this song) Steppenwolf - Born to Be Wild AC/DC - Back in Black Black Sabbath - Iron Man Ozzy - Crazy Train Metallica - Enter Sandman Jane's Addiction - Jane Says Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again The only two I can't stand are Takin' Care of Business and Dude Looks Like a Lady, but I get really tired of hearing all of them on the radio.

Fallen on hard times --- but it feels good to know that milk and honey's just around the bend. Running on bad lines --- we'd better run as we go, Tear up, tear up the overdraft again. Oh, dear Prime Minister --- it's all such a mess. Go right ahead and pull the rotten tooth. Oh, Mr. President --- you've been put to the test. Come clean, for once, and hit us with the truth. Looking for sunshine --- oh but it's black and it's cold Yet, you say that milk and honey's just round the bend. Giving us a hard time, my friends handing us the same line again. Fallen on hard times --- and there's nowhere to hide Now they've re-possessed the Roll…

  75. Had a good long conversation with a sales rep there while ogling a white G8 GXP. They have had 4 and already sold 3. They are actively attempting to get more GXPs and GTs, and trying to trade away the G3s and G5s they reluctantly took as stock. The rep reported that most G8 sales are V8s and that most buyers were coming out of Euro brands. Just some food for thought. They have a Solstice Targa inbound.

Thinking of going and test driving this one...but the price seems really high. We bought our Safari Van and our Concorde from this dealership and they treated us right...but this still seems high. What should this thing sell for? Chris

Im sleeping on the couch because.... yes I put the roll on backwards. I never knew it was supposed to roll of the top and hang down towards the front and not hang from the back. I still cant believe I argued about it and lost... I thought it doesn't matter but it does.

  78. I patched up an old friendship just recently. Actually, it was with my best friend from grammar school. We had had a falling out in 2001, and again in 2008. BOTH were about money. For the first falling out, he had asked me to help him sort out some of the financial paperwork after his divorce. He literally handed me a file box in complete disarray. Not only that, he would ask me for small advances, and was never caught up in repayment. Total loss for me: less than $200. For the second falling out, it was about sorting out his child support status. I told him I could only help him recalculate the right balance. He expected me to take his side that he should be a…

It is without a doubt that GM makes the best-SMELLING new cars. Check out the smell of an up-level GM brand like Cadillac or Buick, for example. I remember the great smell of our new Cutlass Supremes, so much so that I would get up on weekend mornings, in pajamas, put on a bathrobe, and go SIT IN THEM. I can't explain it...but they smelled new, clean, and neither sweet nor harsh. I am bringing this up because I just dropped by a Ford dealership this afternoon. I checked out some new Fusion 4s (not buying, just test-sitting). They don't smell that good. They (cloth seat equipped) smell just like a new athletic gear from REI. Kudos for being a great car that got ever…

Just curious to know if anyone has been a member of the Jaycees in their area.... I met with a couple today that lead Elgin's Jaycees, in part to see about a presentation they had in December (while I was ill) about starting one's own business. Turns out, that same couple went to high school with my sister ... it is a small world. have Word 2000 and I am creating a document that has a "fill in the blanks" type feeling to it. My question is, is there a way to have lines that you can put text onto without the line moving because all you did was something like this "_______________". To put it another way if this is hard to understand and you really have the kindness in your heart to help . I just need something that can be a line with words on it, but like a template. not like this "_______hello______"

I've noticed that this is sort of a culture thing, it seems. Almost everyone around me are the kind of people who buys cars, use it for a few years and dump it. I've once told my friend that I will keep my G6 for a long time, he thinks I'm insane. What's your attitude towards your car?

Well there's no turning back now. Found myself a decent "Heritage of Ownership" medallion for a first Cadillac on eBay, and that in and of itself is the symbolic beginning of a search that will likely define this year. Mercifully my insurance didn't go up last year after the two accidents I was involved in (though neither of them were my fault in the slightest), in fact my insurance went down- substantially. I have decided that I need a little project on the side to keep me busy (and sane) and have decided to fulfill a childhood dream, killing two birds with one stone. I'm going to find myself a 94-96 Fleetwood Brougham. I'm hoping to find something within Canada b…

  94. I LOVE to WRITE. I interned at a local newspaper "back in the day" and had many articles published. Recently, another article I wrote was published; this time, online. I've also added a bit more to my Route 66 story. AUTO ADS Last time here, I posted a thread with a bunch of older commercials that caught my attention: Then, Drew posted an article I wrote about commercials: ROUTE 66 After my September 2009 road trip along Route 66, I started writing a Route 66-based story. I finally added a new section in late February 2011, just as the host website was disbanded. So, the entire story is copied in here. Soon, my story may have a new home; details to be deter…

I am not the oldest posting member by any means, [cough]Camino[/cough] , but I have never left this place for more than a week's time (hey, sometimes I needed a vacation!). I have learned quite a bit about my favorite automaker, more than I sometimes wanted to know about other automakers, have met a bunch of C&G members over the years in person, and have been blessed with gifts from members past and present (and have tried to do my share of "passing it forward"). This is the place I come to for my daily dose of automobilia and don't foresee me leaving any time soon (God willingly!)…
