I've been on a classical kick lately. I feel really stressed and I'm not sure exactly why, so I turn to classical for some relief. I prefer dark, brooding classical. I've been compiling a list on playlist, here's a link to what I have so far. Any suggestions? Playlist

The Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation estimates that in an average year the adult entertainment industry — which is headquartered primarily in Southern California — registers total sales of $12.6 billion. Recently Larry Flynt, head of the Hustler empire, and Joe Francis, the man behind the “Girls Gone Wild” series, requested a $5 billion bailout from Congress. Is it that bad out there? The rest of the nation is reeling from a severe economic downturn. Yet the conventional wisdom about the adult entertainment business is that it is recession-proof. And that thinking is consistent with the behavior of mainstream Hollywood. In times of economic …

I'm in the midst of reading Jim Hinckley's book, _Route 66 Backroads_, to prepare and plan this year's Route 66 Drive, September 5-16. I'm learning a lot about different areas in several states that probably should be explored ... when I have time. I'm also beginning to wish I could take more time for the Route 66 Drive...and, for that matter, road trips in general.... As I read the book further, I wonder what else is "out there" of interest to see in various areas. Our own "backyard" has plenty "treasures" to explore ... many more than we have time to see. This became apparent when I saw the PBS specials on Route 66 and the Lincoln Highway; researched other famous …

When I was car shopping I did look at a first gen Dodge Neon. It was going for $800, which was well below my budget. I liked how it drove and handled, however the ebrake stuck and of greater concern, water was getting into the cabin on the passenger side and pooling in the foot well. It had started to smell like mold. I passed over it. Friday I went to my mechanic to do some computer work for him, and what do I find? The very car I test drove...

I think the other one obviously crossed a line (my apologies) and it was best to wipe it from exisstance and start over. So with that in mind, the rules are no crossing that line, and no car related stuff. There's already a thread for that. Let's try this again:

If you had the chance to buy a 1970 Buick Wildcat Custom for one-thousand, five-hundred dollars in solid condition, would you do it? Or would you rather buy a(nother) 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme for the about the same price in about the same condition?

The Dealer found an appropriate Cobalt with the Appropriate Equipment and agreed to take back the G5 I bought in May... So I'm now driving a Slate-colored 2008 Cobalt LT. I've only noticed two differences from the 2007 G5 (except for now having the safety features I paid for )- and those are the body colored bumper trim and the instant fuel mileage gauge (very welcome addition). They switched over my iPod Interface and Tripletred tires for free- I just have to have Nitrogen put back in them (ugh- there's 20$ I'll never see again). I'm thinking of putting on the 2009 Wheelcovers after seeing this picture here... seems attractive enough. I may add Tire Pressure Senso…

I took the LaCrosse in for an oil change at the dealership on Saturday...based on time, not miles. I always seem to wind up talking to service advisors. For one thing, I seem to "file away" their comments and opinions on cars, maintenance, reputations, etc. This weekend, at the Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealership, I saw a used 2007 MC within viewing distance as he was writing up my LOF work ticket and I told him the decision process I went through in deciding on th Buick over the Chevy. He told me that it was a good choice, but that their experience with VVT has been virtually problem-free, but that the 3800s almost NEVER come back for anything. I then went into the showr…

So I've got someone's computer they asked me to look at (completely computer illiterate) and it's got this lovely error on startup "operating system not found" That's all it does...there's no options to enter setup or anything. I'm guessing HD or motherbaord. It's a strange computer. It's Dell case but the boot screen is HP, and it has two HDs. I'm not sure what the person who built it for him did, lol. I was just curious what you guys think is more likely. If it's not enough info, I don't have much else beyond it shows the HP logo and the goes to the error. I'm gonna pull out the two HDs and see if I can access them on my computer. Just wanted to know if you guys …

I really do. Such good deals. Like this chair I got. For some time no my office chair has been broken...the seat wobbles and it feels like the mounting bracket is pushing through the cushion and against me. The other day I figured I'd look into what the problem was. Turns out the plarticlboard that the bottom of the seat is made of fractured, and the bracket really was pushing into the bottom cushion. As it also turns out the actual bracket has fractured. So the seat's junk and becoming more uncomfortable each day. I really noticed it a couple days ago when I spent almost all day working on the computer. Now, when I bought it I bought a warranty for it that covers bas…

I bought a refurbished computer a couple months ago (Gateway QuadCore 32-bit, 4 gigs RAM, GeForce 9800 GT card, Vista Home) and keep it defragged and do a file clean on a regular basis. It's fast and has no problems with graphic-demanding games like GTA IV. But when it comes to the internet, it can be a real bitch sometimes as far as speed goes. My internet provider is Mediacom and I have an 8 mb/sec download speed, but the overall performance ranges from horrible on IE7 to mediocre on Google Chrome. Firefox falls in the middle. Does anyone know what the cause is, and if there are any solutions? Is it due to Vista? Perhaps Norton system scan is being a pig in the …

I found this gray 2006 Monte Carlo LS with 35,300 miles on it near Chicago about 200 miles away from me. I like the price 8,500 and the miles but has a bump/scrape on the bumper I could get over in the mean time and get fixed. Here is the vin can someone do me a huge favor and find out the deal with this car? VIN- 2G1WJ15K469169372 please print the screen (control print screen, or email me the page or summarize it) it would be very helpful. I will also get another 100 off so that brings it down to 8,400 bucks. Hopefully more. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance I know someone on here can run a Carfax for me....

A buddy of mine is getting a car for his son (he will be 16 in two weeks), and he has narrowed it down to a few choices: A cavalier and a Century. He is a good kid, and he loves cars. (and hates ricer cars). He currently has a 95 Escort he is fixing himself for a beater. (best way to learn) 2004 Crapalier LS- White, full power, sunroof, 2dr. Very good shape, only has 57k on it. Needs tires and a fuel filter. Lady actually puts Mobil 1 in it. He could get it for 2700.... 2001 Grandpa getter-tan, 82k, very clean, tiny bit of rust. fully loaded, needs nothing. 2800 bucks Which one would you choose for your kid?

1973 Starlight Black Pontiac GTO 400 CID The owner whom orginally got the car lives in my town of Dubuque got this car new at a Pontiac dealer in my town. (Whom I never go to.) Still it is a neat piece and is in great shape with PHS and only 82K on the clock. The buy-it-now of $12,500 seems pretty fair. So what do all you think? If I had the money and an agreeable wife I would get it. Even though it isn't my favorite year of GTO still it is pretty sweet. I love the color combo and if it was a floor shift and 455 it would be even better. Not that a 400 is a pooch and it has a bench seat... Don't give me any ideas...

I've had the idea for awhile of replacing the Corvette badges on my car with a chrome autobot (Transformers) emblem. I looked far and wide and I couldn't find a quality badge that would look good on my car. I found a place that could make what I was looking and just got the first run: Emblems are cut from 1/8" thick stainless steel, black part is 1/16" thick. I had the low part painted black to match my car. Emblems are 4" tall by 3.9" wide. I can't wait to put them on my car.

Bankrupt Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation's second-biggest consumer electronics retailer, said Friday it failed to find a buyer and will liquidate its 567 U.S. stores. The closures could send another 30,000 people into the ranks of the unemployed. "This is the only possible path for our company," James A. Marcum, acting chief executive, said in a statement. "We are extremely disappointed by this outcome." The company had been seeking a buyer or a deal to refinance its debt, but the hobbled credit market and consumer worries proved insurmountable. The liquidation of Circuit City is the latest fallout from the worst holiday shopping season in four decases. People …

Well, this makes my fourth consecutive year that I’ve been to the North American International Auto Show here in frigid Detroit, MI. Every year has been a lot of fun no matter when you go. The first three times I ended up going on the first Public Day as soon as the gates opened. This year, however, I was able to get tickets with some coworkers and got in on the first day of the Industry Preview. And let me tell you, depression is in the air. Fortunately, we walked in right by the Ford exhibit, which was about the same as most years, but spectacular by comparison to most other exhibits. If that doesn’t tell you something then there’s something wrong. The entire auto sho…

Sometimes the world works in mysterious ways. Things happen, and for the life of us, we can't figure out why. Why them? Why now? It just seems so unfair. On Saturday, one of the best persons I had the pleasure of knowing had a massive stroke, and a day later, she was gone. This woman was more than just a good friend, she was one of the best teachers I ever had in high school, really shaped me into the person I am today. She wouldn't let you get away with anything in class without first publicly poking fun at you and then explain what you needed to know. I remember in class one time, a reference to the Diet of Worms was made, and being an idiot, said, "Wow, that…

It probably ticks me off more than any other aspect of the current automotive industry. I HATE 4-doors! Why must every damn car have four freakin doors? I would choose any other bodystyle over the bland sedan, it is absolutely lame that so many cars are only offered in that oh-so-boring form. Over the past few decades, we have lost so many opportunities to have had interesting versions of cars that restricted to sedan-only form. Imagine what a b-body Impala SS coupe and convertible would have been like. Or more recently, a G8 Coupe ( or wagon , or convertible, or the ST) could have given me an option other than the nuclear one I've chosen. But no, all w…

It's been awhile since we've gotten this much snow. We have anywhere between 6-12 inches depending on the exact area. Some roads, they are just now plowing. I had fun going to work on roads that hadn't been plowed. It was the first time the Jetta had to deal with alot of snow. Did well, except I had to be pushed into my driveway, with it being on a incline without being able to get a run at it. I made it up one pretty long and steep hill somehow on the way home.

So I bought a 12 pack of TaB several months ago because I've always been curious what it tasted like but they don't sell just 20 oz bottles or even 2 liters of the stuff. Tried one can. It tastes fine at first but then there's this...aftertaste...it's not pleasant. 11 cans have been sitting in the hall since then. Fast forward to tonight. I'm eating pizza and there's no more soda. Milk/OJ/Eggnog do not go with pizza for me. So I've broken down and openedup a (cold) can of TaB. Joy. This time the aftertaste isn't as bad to me though. Does anyone actually enjoy drinking it on a regular basis?

I haven't seen any news articles yet, but overnight gas prices jumped anywhere from .10 to .20 overnight in my area. What's the cause this time? The Israel / Gaza war?

My Great Grandfather passed away quietly in his sleep last night. He was my friend and mentor. He had a calm, steady, intellectualism. He spoke 7 languages fluently and has been on every continent except for Antarctica. He was highschool educated and rose to become President of the Okonite Company, one of the oldest wire cable companies in the country, where he demonstrated pioneering leadership and understanding that taking care of the company's workforce was in the company's best interest. Just prior to his retirement in 1976, he arranged the following: He was a quiet man who's life centered around taking care of others. He never commanded but always sugge…

I had quite the day, today. I gawked over many vehicles I didn't think I would have the chance to look at. I even got to start up an LP560. Talk about an exhaust note. It's pretty much the equivalent to automotive heaven. Here's a minor list of all my nifty sights. Bugatti Veyron Alfa Romeo 8C Alfa Romeo Spyder Alfa Romeo 164 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Lamborghini Countach Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Ferrari 430 Scuderia Ferrari 360 Modena Ferrari F355 Ferrari 550 Maranello Ferrari 308 Ferrari F1 Racer Maserati GT Maserati Merak Maserati Quattroporte Porsc…

Being in that twenty-something age range, I'm kind of a connoisseur of frozen pizza right now. It's cheap and many days after work I don't feel like making a big meal. When I was a kid, we used to always get Red Baron. I haven't had it in a few years, but I wasn't really a fan of it when I was younger because all the toppings would slide off and it usually had too much sauce. Brands I've had recently are Jack's, Tombstone, California Pizza Kitchen, and Totino's. I usually skip the DiGiorno type brands because if I'm going to spend 6 bucks on a frozen pizza, I'll just make my own or order one. My favorite is Jack's, especially the new Naturally Rising crust version…

Last night XP715, myself & two of our friends officially kicked off the New England Chevrolet/GMC SUBURBAN sub-chapter of the T!gHt Wh1p$ car club. Here's a few photos from the meet, taken in Westford, Massachusetts Jan. 4th, 2009. Left to Right: 1990 Chevrolet Suburban, 2wd 1500 (XP715's daily driver) 1987 Chevrolet Suburban, 2wd 1500 (our friend Robert's winter beater) 1995 GMC Suburban, 4x4 1500 (Tall-Paul's daily driver) 1995 Chevrolet Suburban, 4x4 1500 (my newest winter whip) All four are powered by Chevrolet 350s. All but Robert's beater have barn doors. You might recall that Tall Paul was the 4th TWCC member to joi…

Oy, the Holidays are over, and I just realized I'll have no more holidays off until Memorial Day, end of May. Such is the lot in life of a dealership employee.

I have a question to ask you guys/gals.. Do you have some good tax tips you could offer? I am gathering stuff in order now (you can never be too early), and I have never been one who gets a bunch back. But with the new baby, I figure that might change a bit.... And on top of that, we made less money this year, as the wife has been out of work caring for the little guy....... And since I cooked my brain this month (been a few rough months), I am hoping to get a few ideas.. And also hoping it might help out others as well.......

I figured with everything going on, this might be a good question to ask. I know quite a few people who normally buy new cars who haved just bought used cars (and an SUV). Has thst stuff going on changed your plans on what you planned to buy? Right now, it looks to be one new/one used. I really would like to upgrade the wife into something bigger (and to carry more of Zack's stuff), so a used Nox, Torrent or Liberty look like good choices..... As for me, A Cruze, Vibe (not sure why, as the wife no longer wants one), an Astra, and Mazda 3 (the new one) are on the current short list....

http://tags.jalopnik.com/5121491/how-old-i...in-people-years Take the mileage on the car's odometer and divide by the model year. The result is your car's age if it were a person. So for our cars: Prizm---- 188000 miles and it is a 1994 so my car is 94 years old. Intrepid--- 196000 miles and it is a 2000 so it is 98 years old. Shadow--- 217000 miles and it is a 1989 so it is 109 years old! Marquis--- 189000 miles on it and it is a 1993 so it is 95 years old. How old is YOUR car (in people years)?

Remember Wacky Packages? And beer can collecting? Well, my brother and I had a huge collection of both. For the most part, the collections still exist (my dad pitched a fit at one point and tossed some of the cans). Now, it looks like there is some value to them so I may be putting them all on ebay. It will be a ton of work, but should be interesting.

Oh man, I've become absolutely hooked on YouTube clips of the British television show, Hollyoaks, and the story of two of its protagonists, John Paul and Craig. Their story has captivated me. So far, I've watched 38 clips, approximately 10 minutes each, over the last two days. And there are many more to go. What's your latest television obsession? Tell us.
