I was at a bar with a friend. As we were about to leave, my friend made this courtesy gesture of holding the door open for a girl. As a result of that, this girl started talking to us. She seemed to be especially interested in me, and she asked for my cell phone and left her number on it (I did not even ask for it). She told me to give her a call to see what was going on later on that night. So one hour later (at 11:45), I give her a call. She's going to this other bar with friends. I ask my friend if he wants to come along, but he's had some Mexican foot and he's crapping his bowels out. So I don't mind really, because I was kind of worried that h…

So, i'm up at the local license bureau, licensing a car for one of my customers. I was in a rush since it was late in the day, my licensing girl had already been up there twice that day, so i went myself. So, i got that done, stepped outside and tripped over some uneven pavement. There was a sort of wire from a pole, covered with this old metal (i think to protect people from decapitating themselves on the wire). So i try to grab it to avoid going down, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, i go down and sort of swing around it like a drunken cracked out stripper! HOW EMBARASSING! so, i've fractured my arm, can't get a cast since it's so swollen. I only wish…

Replacing his 91 Caprice Classic, my dad bought this car used in 96 with only 30,000 on the clock. He needed something with a smooth ride since for his career (rick management) he travels quite a bit to medical facilities across the state. Both myself and my brother started learning to drive on this car. Over the years, very few mechanical problems have arose so when it was time to buy another car for my brother, they bought a 92 and shortly after my mom's sister had bought a 93. Well, now the time has come that now some mechanical issues are coming up and my parents have probably invested a few thousand into the car to keep it running. At the moment, it leaks gas, oil, h…

Hell Week for the Car Haters. Detroit. If you're into the whole car "thing," as virtually all of the readers of this publication are - then the third week of August is akin to our High Holy Days. Auto enthusiasts across the country are focused on two huge events this week: the Pebble Beach Concours and the Monterey Historic races on the West Coast, and the Woodward Dream Cruise in the northern suburbs of Detroit. Though polar opposites in style and tone, nonetheless these two automotive events (and countless others of lesser stature) define the car culture for auto enthusiasts across the country today. The events on the Monterey Peninsula (which Robert Louis Stephen…

Make sure your sound isn't too high when you hit play. Rotor noise sped up 2000% doesn't sound so nice. Also make sure you put it on 720p. Though you might have to pause and let it load a bit before you hit play again with 720p. The funny thing was, it wasn't even my choice. I was given 3 airports to fly to, and this was the course it required.

Crashes car into mall, and then steals clothes from mall to get dressed.... DALLAS - A man wearing no clothes crashed a stolen vehicle into the Southwest Center Mall and then proceeded to get out of the vehicle and dress himself in clothes from a Champs Sports store Friday morning, Dallas police said. The incident began with a woman being approached by a man wrapped in a blanket. The woman told police he came right up to her and stole her vehicle. It is unclear at this time if he used force or was armed at the time. The man then drove the vehicle through the entrance of the Southwest Center Mall, slamming kiosks and leaving behind major damage until coming to a halt …

SPOILER ALERT!! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE YET DON'T READ THIS UNLESS YOU WANTS POILERS (AND DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO SEE IT!!) Since GMTruckGuy74 started spilling spoilers because he wanted to talk about the movie, and since those of us who have seen it are probably dying to talk about it, I made this thread so we can discuss it without ruining the movie for everyone who hasn't seen it yet. At least, that's the idea I'll start. Do you think we've seen the last of him? If history is any indication, I doubt it. Even with the water pressure 7 miles below sea level, I doubt it would be enough to crush him and the others..plus he has a general knack for coming back…

So I have gotten over negative feelings I have for both Chrysler and GM but for some reason seem to have a somewhat irrational case of real dislike for Ford motor company at the moment. I really like the current F150, the Lincoln crossover products, the Mustang, the ST twins, the Fusion Sport...and several other products. But for whatever reason I seem to have a real dislike for Ford that is not rational. Any advice you have for helping me think more rationally about them would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've been putting in insanely long days on my project wagon since the end of last week, and tonight I was stopped in my tracks by a freaking fuel pump! Just as well I suppose, at least I'll be asleep before 4:00 A.M. tonight. I'm burnt to a crisp after this marathon, but it felt great to just decide to commit totallly to the project no matter what other concerns tried to enter the picture. Now a realatively simple repair ought to have the car running, and I can slow the pace back down to a more sane level to complete the work that remains to be done. I'm exhausted, but it is a "good" exhausted.

1973 Starlight Black Pontiac GTO 400 CID The owner whom orginally got the car lives in my town of Dubuque got this car new at a Pontiac dealer in my town. (Whom I never go to.) Still it is a neat piece and is in great shape with PHS and only 82K on the clock. The buy-it-now of $12,500 seems pretty fair. So what do all you think? If I had the money and an agreeable wife I would get it. Even though it isn't my favorite year of GTO still it is pretty sweet. I love the color combo and if it was a floor shift and 455 it would be even better. Not that a 400 is a pooch and it has a bench seat... Don't give me any ideas...

DF brought up this point and I figured I would look back and see how many accidents there really has been. I'm going back until 2000, or so. There weren't many before then, not since my parents, aunts, and uncles were younger. It's mostly my generation that's had issues. -My cousin Josh's first wreck, spinning into a tree with his Firebird back in 2000, a few months after getting his license. -My cousin Josh's second wreck involved rear ending someone with his jacked up and modded Ford Ranger. -My Mom's first wreck, when she slid into an embankment and a bridge with her Grand Am in 2002. -My cousin Andy wrecked my Grandma's Sunfire in 2003 or 2004, the fir…

Okay, so I've been saying this for a few years now... tv show theme songs are gone. I don't even know why it's so important, but at any given moment, you can hum a theme from a tv show anytime between the 50's through the early 2000's, and everyone knows what it you're talking about. Most smile and join in. TV shows now don't have theme songs (at least most of them). They have a title screen at most. Some don't even do that and scroll credits during the beginning of the episode. Am I the only one who misses theme songs? The reason I bring it up is because again the discussion surfaced tonight when my cell went off ringing to the theme of The Office, and people ch…

Okay so I went to this carshow in Phoenix today, and it was friggin sweet! I saw basically the tightest Cadillac CTS-V of my life: it had a supercharged and stroked LS6 with built internals! Also, the rest of the car was extremely nice. It had a borla exhaust i believe the guy said, and some 20 inch wheels that I would actually have dropped. The car was still very clean, and it even had nos, which is sort of cool but I dont think it was really necessary. The guy said it dynoed 550 hp without the nos, and runs 12s at the track. Needless to say, I was very impressed. The only thing I didnt like was he put 2 Cadillac V symbols on the back of the car, and the 20 inch …

Is it 1973 because of the catalytic converters? Maybe 1977, with the beginning of the boxy styling craze (including rectangular headlights)? Is it somewhere in the 80s, with the switch to fuel injection and the death of chrome bumpers? Or is it the 90s, when all these transitions were complete and every car was officially "computerized" (with more crapola to come)? Can the cutoff year slide into more recent years? Or did one prick just say "it stops at the 50s!" and it just is what it is and will be for all time?

Bought for $1500 in 1956, driven only 603 miles, then garaged for unknown reasons (with 9800 original miles), it has recently been sold (undisclosed amount). Mostly complete, it needs a complete re-do. Rust & mice are never mindful of history, unfortunately. Some sort of impact of unknown force poked out it's Cyclop's Eye. Hopefully & assumedly, it will be restored, as Tuckers have now cleared 7 digits in the collector arena. Neat to see a 'rumored' one re-debut.

Grand Prix Racing Returns to Detroit Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix to be held in June 2012 2011-10-12 - DETROIT – Chevrolet today announced a multi-year agreement with the Penske Corporation and INDYCAR to bring professional motorsports to the Motor City for the first time in four years. The first Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will be held June 1-3, 2012 at the picturesque 2.1-mile Raceway at Belle Isle Park road course. “Chevrolet has a long, storied history in Indy car racing,” said Mark Reuss, president, GM North America. “This year we celebrated the shared centennial of Chevrolet and the Indianapolis 500. I was wondering if I should go ahead into looking at a 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 that is for sale in Orangeville. I spotted it on Craigslist. The car is an 86 w/ 80,000 kms. It needs a front bumper, brake work, and a new battery. What do you guys think? Are these cars potential problems. I have heard of many breaking down frequently. Would this be worth it ot just be a money pit? I dont think I would want to drive this in the winter so that is something that would turn me away. What do you think?

This is interesting: "Robert Pastor, a leading intellectual force in the move to create an EU-style North American Community, told WND he believes a new 9/11 crisis could be the catalyst to merge the U.S., Mexico and Canada. "Pastor, a professor at American University, says that in such a case the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP – launched in 2005 by the heads of the three countries at a summit in Waco, Texas – could be developed into a continental union, complete with a new currency, the amero, that would replace the U.S. dollar just as the euro has replaced the national currencies of Europe. Mike Wood’s Duramax-powered ’04 Ford Mustang The thought of a big-cubic-inch diesel engine in a light car seems to excite just about everyone, but perhaps the most impressive swap of the decade has been Mike Wood’s Duramax-powered Mustang. When we featured the car in 2008, it was running low 10s in the quarter-mile and achieving more than 30 mpg at Hot Rod magazine’s Drag Week—and that was just the start. Later, a Gear Vendors Overdrive was added to the 4L80E transmission, the engine was hopped up a bit more and given larger doses of nitrous, and the entire combination was fine-tuned. Then Mike went racing. Although not as publicized as they perhaps should have been, …

I have a 2013 Buick LaCrosse. I've used both iPhones and Android phones paired to my car, no problem. I always "voice dial" which ridiculously requires me to turn the radio on before it accepts commands, but in the past several months, I'd say 50+% of the time, I get the "Dialing failed" comment. Let me break it down. Previously what would happen: 1) Press voice command button and hear, "Please say your command." 2) I say, "Call Melinda on cell." 3) "Dialing".... and call goes through. Now, more than half the time: 1) Press voice command button and hear, "Please say your command." 2) I say, "Call Melinda on cell." 3) *long pause* 4) "Dialing failed." 5)…

The CA Assembly voted 74-0 to revive the state's so-called 'sideshow car seizure ordinance' that had lapsed in January. The law authorizes a police officer to seize any vehicle he wishes by asserting that it was involved in "reckless driving" on a street or in a parking lot. That State will keep the vehicle for not more than 30 days, naturally accumulating all sorts of towing, impoundment, storage & admin fees in addition to fines up to $1000. Arrest, likewise, is allowable. Punishment of siezure is imposed withOUT any finding of guilt by jury or judge. In addition, Oakland, who lax record keeping of the result of this initial law led to it's discontinuance, has repo…

So, with this past weekend being the true greatest spectacle in motorsports- the 24hrs of LeMans- I thought it could make for a good UDG thread. Rules- 1) Maximum of 5 cars. 2) Cars can be from any era/year. 3) Cars MUST be OVERALL winners to be eligible. 4) Your selection MUST also be the ACTUAL RACE WINNING CAR. Not a different car of the same make/mfr because you like that team/livery/etc better. In other words, down to the exact number and driver combo. * I will do a separate thread for non-race winning cars, so don't get hung up over that one.

I went out for a little bike ride to work off last nights cookout, I went on a gravel trail that I've been riding for years. Somehow I managed to wipe out, even better I did it about 4 miles from civilization. I scraped my knees and elbows and managed to not whack my head on anything, which is always a plus. But my bike took a fair bit of abuse. The rear derailleur is all jacked up and the brake cable snapped, so I had to ride 4 miles back to the car without being able to shift and without rear brakes. It was fantastic. Even better, it started pouring on the way back, so I got to do the last mile in the rain, which at least washed all the blood off.

Not more than half an hour ago, I was able to order a Papa John's pizza online... medium pepperoni & black olive, baked well done, without getting off my ass. The little nerdy white kid brought it to my door and now I am stuffing my face with a delicious, hot, fattening concoction. And it's only going to get worse. Hey Papa John: good luck finding your old Z/28. I did my small part.

As much as I do not like watching reality shows, this got caught my eye because he grew up in the same town as my girl. Great humility and spirit. I hope he wins.

In September 2009, I road tripped along the Illinois portion of the Lincoln Highway and Route 66 from Illinois to California. That trip increased my awareness of "old routes" in general, including others like the Dixie Highway and US Route 6. Last year's journey also increased my awareness of the "road ahead". Whether the road is "less traveled" or filled with traffic, looking ahead is most-often fun, in more ways than one. Around the Elgin area, I "exercise" my Monte Carlos on the same "old" roads west of Elgin, including US Route 20: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_20 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_20_in_Illinois Some of those roads, particularly…

Tough for me to believe that my awesome 2010 road trip... ...is done. If I could be on the road 24/7/365, I would jump on that chance/opportunity in a heartbeat! In the meantime, it is time to start planning my 2011 road trip, most-likely via US Route 66 and into the northwest United States (Oregon, Washington, the Dakotas, Minnesota, etc.). I'm also considering a couple mini road trips yet in 2010, in mid September (place TBD) and in November, during Thanksgiving weekend, to TN. As for my Nor'Easter Trek road trip, I had a GREAT time traveling through IL, IN, MI, OH, PA, NY, MA, NH, MA, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, VA, PA, OH, IN, and IL, from Wednesday, August 4 to Su…

Four weeks before Northwest filed for bankruptcy, Northwest Chairman Gerald Wilson sold about one-third of his Northwest stock at about five and a half dollars a share. Since bankruptcy, Northwest stock has been less than a dollar. Congresswoman Candice Miller of Macomb County said Wilson is a greedy coward. “Here you have an individual who should be demonstrating leadership… for Northwest Airlines, and instead of that, he couldn’t wait to sell his stock off a month before he must have known fully well that they were going to be declaring bankruptcy. Again, just another unfortunate example – in my observation – of corporate greed,” explained Miller. A spokesperson f…

I was thinking the other day about ALL the GM cars that I've owned.....you know with the GM discount, I was able to get a new car like every 9-12 months.... I know I kinda have a rap on here for ragging on GM products (hopefully it's seen more as constructive criticism....) so here's some of the stuff I've had..... FIRST ever car bought.....1984 Buick Skylark T-Type w/the 2.8L H.O. V6 and that horrible, tacked-on, bar-graph tachometer above the gauge cluster....remember that? Silver/Grey two-tone with the light grey interior. Loved the throaty exhaust note though... 1989 Buick Skyhawk Coupe....with the 2.0L OHC L4, 5-speed manual tranny, "T"…

So I drop my seventeen year old son off at guitar Center, and cruise through the local Ford dealer...look at a few cars while my son is looking at guitars...then I slide over to the Hyundai dealer because my son wants to spend some time playing one last guitar. I'm checking out the Genesis coupe, and some guy has his two kids in the back seat (young, perhaps about 6 and 8, boy and girl). Guys wife is test driving a Sonota, and this guy is telling me how a V6 Genesis is faster than a Camaro SS or Mustang GT, and how Hyundai is the most awesomist car company ever. I'm trying hard not to LMFAO at this point... He then says that Hyundais never break...at that moment, bot…

A few of my summer job alternatives have recently fallen through, so I'm back to exploring my options. Coincidentally, I'm looking to pursue a job similar to what Northie posted earlier this week. I'm extremely interested in detailing or "prepping" new or pre-owned cars at a local dealership (or another dealership-related job, for that matter), I'm just not entirely sure how I should pursue this. I haven't found anything in the paper advertising such a position, and I'm not sure if dealerships would be interested in hiring a 17-year-old. I'd like to contact a few local dealerships, but I'm not sure exactly what I should say. What positions would a dealership li…

Its okay, because you're giving him more electricity. P.S. Will Prius drivers stop going 55mph on the interstate because they can't get more than 40mpg driving like a normal person?

I figured there are enough of you on here that reside in Michigan that perhaps you could suggest some nice places to stay for a week in Dec. I live in Chicago and my wife and family travel to Elk Rapids(just north of Traverse City) each summer. We've never been there in the winter and plan to go this year. However not knowing what the weather will bring, that is a far drive for us and our 1 yr old. Is there another town along Lake Michigan that is good for a week's stay? Looking to do the typical shopping, dining, site-seeing touristy (sp?) type stuff. We don't own snowmobiles or plan on doing too much recreational activities. I'm into Lighthouses, so depending on …
