So, I needed to rent a car last min. and almost EVERYBODY in Fresno was sold out. So Hertz had cars (and have earned my future business) but... I ended up with 3 TOYOTA keys that all led me to a graphite gray Camary. It has a 4 banger in it. I CANNOT find a comfortable seating position in it at all. The seat is retarded and the steering wheel when it is pulled all the way out and put in the highest position is still not high enough or far enough out. At night, the whole center stack (including the green plastic surroundings) lights up and is very distracting. I can't ever get the car to go into gear without looking at the stupid jagged shifter. The car has really bad blin…

Gonna be driving to Texas on sunday... gonna see if I can get 600 miles in going 70ish (the speed limit on all these boring roads) I feel bad for people that have to live out here.

As reported in the National Post yesterday, http://www.financialpost.com/story.html?id=445465 : "The online science magazine Tomorrow's Discoveries, which specializes in breaking major science news before it actually happens, reports the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 29 assisstant neutrons, some 100 deputy neutrons, and 222 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 352. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it…

Suppose your kids comes up to you today and tells you he/she wants to start driving go-karts with an aim of maybe becoming a pro in some form of motor sports in the future. Would you be happy to let him/her have a go at it? Would you be worried about his/her safety? Would you try to steer your kid towards other activities instead?

Just wondering. My mom is really into this stuff. I believe in it to a certain extent, but I'm not really sure if I believe in psychics... Reason I ask is that my mom will see/talk to a psychic once every great while (every year or two) and tell me what happened. Well I usually don't agree with half the crap, but this time it might've hit home.

What happened to America's Middle Market Brands? With the demise of Mercury Ford Motor Company no longer has a mid-market brand. They are not unique in this marketing strategy nor are they alone in cutting brands over the last few years. Perhaps the most interesting point is all Automakers are moving away from mid-market brands. We saw this in 2000 when General Motors announced they would phase out the Oldsmobile division. GM cited slow sales and poor returns on investments made into Oldsmobile as the key reasons why the brand went under. Rick Wagoner told Sam Donaldson of ABC in an interview: "If everyone who is now telling me what a terrible thing I've done had …

Ok... so I might be 25, but that's no reason not to carve a pumpkin... Enjoy! :D If it's not clear, the pumpkin has Cadillac crests for eyes, a Pontiac emblem for a nose and a Chevrolet bowtie for a mouth. I know, I didn't carve the Buick, GMC,Saturn etc. emblems. My carving ability is still at a child's level. Sorry about the poor image quality... I took this with my phone.

Time for a new one!! Admittedly, selection is somewhat limited in this parameter, so have fun trying to assemble a group with enough diversity for you. Rules- 1) Production vehicles only. 2) Any era and market is allowed. 3) These are your only vehicles. 4) Must be 10 cylinder. 5) You can pick 5 vehicles. After you do a Top 5, you can round out a Top 10, as with previous lists. Have fun!

In a chaotic world sometimes gone mad, do you ever have those moments of just simple contentment? This morning, had breakfast in bed, it's quiet except for some roots type music, softly playing on CKUA.com online, laptop on my lap. Brand new sheets and pillows, got more premium, so worth it. I highly recommend treating yourselves to simple things like this. I think I'm actually sleeping better. Nothing planned today.. Ahhh...I'm feeling everything is going to be ok. Another sip of coffee...mmm. pure contentment...

Hard day for me, today and yesterday. We laid my grandmother to rest this morning. I so treasure her spirit, her humor and her Old World work ethic, which I inherited and thank her for. Born in Jersey City NJ to recently-immigrated parents, she worked long days in the Black Dirt Region of Orange County NY as a young woman, out in the onion & celery fields, with my father by her side as a young child. Later, she was a long-time factory production worker for Avon. After retiring, she and my grandfather drove down to Florida every winter, fishing and meeting up with friends & relatives. She cooked & canned, she crafted, she golfed, she elevated cleaning to an Oly…

Industry won’t expand refineries since demand for gas will remain the same! WASHINGTON - A push from Congress and the White House for huge increases in biofuels, such as ethanol, is prompting the oil industry to scale back its plans for refinery expansions. That could keep gasoline prices high, possibly for years to come. With President Bush calling for a 20 percent drop in gasoline use and the Senate now debating legislation for huge increases in ethanol production, oil companies see growing uncertainty about future gasoline demand and little need to expand refineries or build new ones. Oil industry executives no longer believe there will be the demand for gasoline ov…

I've had my border collie for about 6 years now--we got her when she was about 6-12 months old from a shelter. She was extremely sick and severely underweight when we got her. Today, she's a healthy, happy, active girl that I can't imagine my life without. I've done a good deal of reading up about her breed, and most things fit. However, every now and then there's a question I have about a behavior she exhibits. Most recently, her behavior towards people diving in the pool. Anyone have border collie experience?

tonight, Vikings / Cowboys so the Vikes hold a 10-3 lead late into the 4th quarter. Dull, but solidly played game. You don't care if J.T. I suck again, er, JT O'Sullivan gives the game away because he does suck, you expect it, and its JUST PRESEASON FOOTBALL. Ok, well, he didn't lose the game, but the cowboys get the ball for the final drive and march down and score a touchdown with like 15 seconds left. that makes the score 10-9. NOW, what next? Obvious. Go for two points to either win or lose the game. Let's get it over with and go home. NOT EXACTLY. in a strange twist of fate....the Tuna (Bill Parcells) decides to kick the extra point and go into OT. …

It's the last weekend of summer. I'm sort of looking forward to cooler weather...but not too cool. What are you folks doing? I get on a plane tonight and fly up to Mom's (that's PDX). Since I will inevitably get in a fight with her (she's a supreme pain), I will take the rental sled up to Vancouver BC for a few days and come back down just in time to catch my flight. This will be my first flight with the new "bans" in place. Unbelievable...no toothpaste, suntan lotion, deodorant or any of that stuff in the cabin. I wonder what check-in and the security line will be like. Everybody, have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day and report back.

The Year Is: 1940 The year is 1940 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike has just opened it's first section. You're going to be traveling on this section from now on and you want a car that can keep up with traffic and not be a rattle can at higher speeds. As one of the first drivers on this section of road, what would you drive? ************************************************* I'd drive a 1940 Oldsmobile convertible. No only does it have everything, it also has a Hydra-Matic transmission so I don't have to ride the clutch through all those toll booths. Boo-yah!

Yesterday, me and the family went shopping in my dad's big, bright red F250. Not an easy thing to miss, by any means. That didn't stop some dumb broad in a Windstar. About a month ago I was browsing the local Pontiac-Buick lot on a Sunday afternoon and I bump into my cousin's girlfriend's mother and her father who is 93. I had met them before at family events. I knew from talking to him before that he liked cars and that he had leased a 2002 Buick Century and when the lease was up in May he was supposed to give the car back and not get another one. It turns out the old guy couldn't go without wheels so he was back on the lot looking for a deal on an 06 and asked me if I would help him look around at different dealers to find him the color / model he liked. He wanted something different from the Century/ Lacrosse and decided on a G6. …

For those unfamiliar with Relay for Life, it is a twenty-four hour cancer walk that is done all across the United States throughout the year to raise awareness and charitable donations to benefit cancer patients. All funds raised go to the American Cancer Society to help try to find a cure, and every dollar counts when it involves such a terrible disease. Please visit the Relay for Life organization site for more information: http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/ So, at Kettering, we try to do exactly wha…

I just read the line in Sixty8's sig that reads: "In fact, did you know a Chevrolet (small block) V8 with no oil in it and no water in it will last about two hours before it disintegrates? We did it twice. The first time it lasted an hour and 15 minutes and the second time it lasted two hours." It reminded me of something my Physics teacher said he learned from an engineer. That a 60s Muscle Car lets off more emissions while not running than a new car does turned on?

I've been feeling that way for a while but couldn't really think of where I might consider relocating to since everyone I know lives in this area and I’m not keen on the idea of moving somewhere on my own just for a change of pace. Cut the Fat: A Smaller GM is the Only Way to Go Please note this isn't actually what I want to happen, but rather what I think has to happen in order for GM to survive, and not only survive, but thrive. Here is how I would go about fixing GM: Kill: Pontiac, GMC, Buick Sell: Hummer Possibly stop selling in US: Saab Keep: Chevy, Saturn, Cadillac I'll see how long I decide to write for, but here's the basic idea: I think it's pretty obvious GMC has nothing but rebadges. The Acadia is their most unique product, and there are 3 other Lambdas. Reasons to support cutting GM have been addressed in the last week or so, so I see no reason to expand. Most buyers woul…

I've been itching to get a hold of an older Simplicity snowblower for a year+ now, as I think they look really neat and really sturdily made. Well one finally popped up close to home for $50 so I had to get it. It's not the two stage paddle style snowblower I also want, but the single stage S4. This is easily the beefiest single stage snowblower I've ever come across. It weighs probably double what the Craftsman we have weighs and for good reason: its built to last. Thick steel, metal guards for everything, chains, greaseable parts, gear drive transmission. What's not to love? Well old gas that rusted out the fuel tank and gummed up the carburetor. Have you ever done it? If not, have you at least heard of it? I've been doing it since Monday... and damn it's awesome so far. I know I've only done three days of workouts (plus I'm watching what I eat like they suggest), but it's been great so far. My body is sore all over, and I'm getting real results. I'm really just doing this to get ripped and toned, and I think it's going to work. It's the only fitness program I've ever tried, other than lifting weights here and there... and so far I'm very impressed. I weighed myself Sunday night and the scale said 151.4 lbs. This morning I weighed in at 147.2, so that's a loss of 4.2 lbs in approximately 3.5 days, so a good 1.…

Good News We're mostly settled into our new house, although there's still a lot of boxes to unpack & some of my clothes are MIA. Bad News Business has been exceptionally slow for almost two months now and that combined with the expenses of moving means finances are about as tough as they have been in 4 years. Good News I have an interview today at a great international company for an excellent position with decent pay, opportunity for overtime & very good benefits. There's room for advancement & I have an inside track from my friend Izabella. Today's my second interview. Bad News Marcia is once again asking for a separation and it looks li…

So I spent my allotted coffee break (I don't drink coffee) shipping a package out at the nearby post office. A guy who's delivering several packages stops what he's doing and asks me, "Excuse me, but do you drive a blue Cobalt?" I reply, "Yes." He then says, "I saw you driving it this morning. Man, that car looks awesome! I had never seen them except in the papers. I never knew they looked this good. Nice car!" I thanked him and haven't stopped grinning since. Boy am I glad I didn't get that Monte!

Well I have always wanted to write a book and I think know would be the time. The biggest challenge for me is what to write about and who's my audience and would people care. Also its a promise I need to carry out. Before my friend Jay was KIA He always joked about writing a story of our lives in the military and Call it "The life story of an nonexistent person." one thing I'm not short of, is story's, or plot lines, but If i told my story it would have no direction and kind of whiny. So some questions would you be interested in reading about my life? Is it worth it? What should i call it? What message should i try to put across? Do i target it to the youngsters i…

OK, I put these in response to the post about Lincoln changing the Zephyr name to MKz and thought it would be fun to have everyone else add their own Lincoln model name and description of the car: OK, so I've created the new Lincoln line up: The Mark Harris - a car with no balls The Mark Hamill - It's really popular when it comes out, but then after a few years no one buys it. The Mark Twain - It only comes in white and a lot of kids are forced to like it, but have no idea why. The Mark Vincent - People never buy the gasoline version, it gets popular when Lincoln indroduces the diesel version The Mark Wahlberg - First introduced with standard hip-hop items l…

Did anyone else see this story on CBS Sunday Morning, January 14? For some reason the first part where they talked to Consumer Reports really struck a nerve with me. I hate how they just group domestic car makers together and how they nit-pick certain test to prove their point. But I guess I should expect any different. U.S. Cars Improve In Quality

From a Buick 8. If you haven't read this, do yourself a favor. As with other Stephen King books, it's very well written. And if you think a Buick is for Grampy and Granny, this will sure as hell change your mind. The story centers around the ultimate Buick from hell. A '54 Roadmaster with a dummy V8 engine, a dash meant for show, a key that cannot start any car of our imagination, a deap blue paintjob that's restant to all dirt and other Earthly substances and able to heal scratches (my, my, wouldn't we love to have that feature standard on a new Impala), fat ass whitewalls able to spit even the smallest grain of sand out of their treads, a steering…

We were given a notice in our paychecks on Friday that there were Philadelphia Auto Show passes available for the asking. So I went to the office and asked for 2. I got SIX. I want to go on Saturday, January 28th. If anyone wants to meet me there you can have the free pass. Send me a message through C&G if you're interested.

So I live about 2 hours south of Chicago, and today there's an article about the Chicago Auto Show, where they ask 4 or 5 "car people" some questions about which vehicle they'd buy in certain classes. How they picked them I do not know (one of them was a Toyota spokesperson, who of course answered with a Toyota product each time, didn't make much sense). Drew was also in the article, and it mentioned C&G. I can't find the article online or I would post it, but I thought it was pretty cool since it was an article written by an editor of the newspaper, not just some random article they took from somewhere else. EDIT: Here is a picture of the article:

I'm going on a two week vacation starting Friday. I'm going by myself at first, to London then Copenhagen. Meeting a friend in a small town in Sweden for a couple days. Then meeting a different friend for a tour of Berlin, Prague, and Vienna. I'll post some pictures when I get back. ps. The Euro doesn't make things convenient yet. Only Germany and Austria are actually on the Euro of the countries I'm going to. I also had to buy British Pounds, Danish Krona, Swedish Kroners, and Czech Koruny.

I like motorcycles alot but don't follow the new developments that closely...just a cursory glance now and then. But, recently I stumbled upon a newer American bike company that just blows me away. This bike is so wickedly stunning in a brutal elemental way. To me it's very American in appeal. If I recall correctly they are over $60,000 each. It's a regular production bike. I want one so bad now. Now if Buick brought back the Wildcat....hmmmm, I like this combo. The Confederate Hellcat:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California sued the federal government in its struggle to set the country's first greenhouse gas limits on cars, trucks and SUVs, asking the Environmental Protection Agency to review its decision to deny the state a waiver that would allow it and 16 other states to regulate emissions. Dismissing California's arguments that it faced unique threats from climate change, EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson said last month the federal government had a national plan to raise fuel economy standards. California officials on Wednesday provided new data in an attempt to show their program is superior to the federal plan. "I think we are coming back strong …

be sure to take a moment today and reflect on what occured on the beaches of normandy today 64 yrs ago, if not for those brave souls we may not enjoy the things we do today. dont just think about the allied sacrifices, the guys on the other side fought for what they believed as well and showed just as much valor. http://www.normandie44lamemoire.com/versio...metieresus.html
