OK, I'll play your game. '56 Continental Mark II in perfect shape, black with tan roof, parked in a driveway... in a light rain weather situation. In other news, we've had a couple Benz GLA 250s traded in the last few weeks where I work. We sell Hyundai and Mazda at my location.

Wow, 6th of June and no one has spotted anything interesting to mention even when out for Groceries. Today was a weird day as I found a very rusty Yugo, an old baby powder blue Chevrolet Luv Truck and a Yellow rusty Datsun mini pickup. Have not seen any of these auto's in years.

Not much seen yet this month, but this pic popped up in my FB timeline--my Jeep in my carport in Phoenix, as I was packing up 5 years ago today. That was the day I left the desert void for good...starting a 2100 mile drive to Ohio that evening. All in all, I've enjoyed life in green, rainy NE Ohio way more than desert life.

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/student+allegedly+takes+Calgary+school+secretary+hostage+Olympian+addresses+students/2642833/story.html This has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I mean I'm glad everyone is safe and all but, sheesh, someone was off his meds today. Take someone hostage at knifepoint over an athletic injury sustained in likely the eighth or ninth grade and then wait all these years... storm back into the school and take a secretary hostage... and then let her go in exchange for a bottle of water? Just goes to show that no matter what some Canadians say, America does not have a monopoly on dementia.

At the usual you-pull type Junkyards, how much money can you expect to pay for a complete set of seats?
Last reply by Cory Wolfe, -
Recently have become mildly obsessed with the twilight era for vintage junkyards, which is happening right now. I have developed a small cyber toolbox (GoogleMaps, GlobeXplorer, MapQuest, Switchboard) to gather before & after aerial pics of junkyards across the U.S. Mostly this is to document where they were and their size, but it's also useful to today's scroungers to assess whether a given sight-unseen yard today looks worth the trip. I have gotten adept at recognizing ex-yards from space. Many times these automotive DisneyWorlds disappear when one's back it turned, leaving but a faint scar on the landscape. I've been in about 15 different yards over the years- I …

Well, well, I go to my mailbox and I see a jury summons. I don't mind. I haven't seen one since college when I got an exemption every time. However, they are fairly automated and show a start date with call-in numbers and blah-blah-blah. Do you know if they can adjust the start date by a couple of days? I don't want a postponement...just a movement a couple of days back. What do you know about this?

Ok, how about, starting in 2007, Cheers and Gears has a 'Chopper of the Year' and 'Artist of the Year'. In other words, nominate and vote for who you guys think should be recognized from their chopping or drawing skills. The winers could be posted on the home page and recieve a special page in which they'd be remembered until the following year when we could do it again. How does nomination and voting work? Anybody who wishes to nominate would put reply to the official thread with their name (one person per category!) If you wish to nominate 2 people ( 1 for each category), then before their name, put the category you would want them to be nominated in. EXAMPLE: …

From my blog: If the current recession has hit Germany, it doesn’t show. Walking around Cologne there is construction everywhere. New shops going up everywhere. The stores are busy and bustling. Germany has been careful to not outsource it’s labor force to foreign markets as much as we have in the US. If German companies need cheap labor, they set up shop in the former East German territories. This way, at least the GDP stays local to Germany’s economy. Why can’t we do the same thing here? Sure, we couldn’t pay the minimal wages we pay Chinese prison laborers to sew soccer balls with their teeth, but I’m sure there are willing laborers in states like West Virginia, A…

Well, wifey did. Salesman friend of ours bid on smart auction and won a '07 Aura XR with 32k miles. Was a GM rental car. Berry red with black leather and moon roof. Auction noted some paint flaws, hope it look ok when they get it up to the dealer. I'm usually quit picky on my vehicles but when the wife drives over 30k miles a year it's hard to get too picky. It's gonna see a lot of the enviroment each day of her commute! Was a bit iffy about it being a rental (but may have been rented/leased to a business??) but 100k powertrain warranty has my nerves settled. I really liked the powertrain and black leather option of the XR, but I suppose the XE would've been the ideal c…

Okay, all you SoCal posters, I've taken up the challenge. I rented a Mustang convertible (wow!) in Vegas, drove to the Hoover Dam (well, I was a tourist!), then sped (where 80 mph is slow - God love Americans!) along highway 15 into L.A. to West Hollywood (no smart remarks, girls) where I spent 4 fabulous days cruising the streets of L.A. MY CONCLUSION: The more I travel around the world, the more I realize how much Toronto sucks. Expecting the worst, I found navigating the freeways and highways of L.A. to be a snap. Even a 7 a.m. truck roll-over on the eastbound hwy 10 could not stop our return trek to Vegas on Wednesday morning. Why? Because despite L.A…

I probably have a dash fetish. I analyze them to death. Love all the little details...they tended to be more interesting on cars from the past. More free spirited, not so worried about perfect ergonomics. Dashes from most car manufacturers today have a sameness to them, although there are a few out of the norm. 1930 Cadillac Madame X Coupe: This dash has some interesting shapes/details for the time. 1932 Cadillac Sport Phaeton: Beautiful details. Notice the abundance of exposed screws. I tend to like them as they suggested machine-like qualities. Today our sensiblities have changed, we are aghast at the slightest hint of assembly.

Considering the economic realities of the day, What would you guys think of this plan: 1) My wagon is nearly complete mechanically, and I had intended to do The Mothertruck ('88 crew cab 4x4) next. 2) The Mothertruck has a brand-new 4-bolt main GM engine with only 2 miles on it currently installed and needs mostly paint and bodywork to finish it. 3) I have been planning to use a new Ramjet 350 crate engine in my Camino, but that would cost me as much or more than finishing the entire truck would - in addition to the rest of the restoration the Camino will be getting. So, I am thinking that maybe I should just use the EFI 350 from the truck in the Camino and sell …

With many four-cylinder cars now making really big power, and V6s having mpg like V8s without the power, couldn't the automakers dispense with many of the V6 applications? Might that not create an efficiency situation that would allow for V8 cars to fit more easily under the new CAFE regs while keeping the formerly V6-powered cars at similar power levels while dramatically increasing the CAFE numbers? Just a thought.

and you see something that just blows your mind? I got the chance to take a 5 door Astra XE for a test drive today. (And it was quite fun to drive, I must say) First off, they had to put the ugliest wheel covers on the XE.....like ever. And they charge 960 bucks for A/C, 1300 bucks for a auto trans.... Then I look at an XR, only to find-for like 500 bucks more, you get a bunch more (alm wheels, a/c, better radio, steeing wheel controls..) What the heck? What is the point of the XE? Unless you don't want A/C......... Crazy stuff I tell you....

OK, I didn't know this, but here's a tip - if you're renting a car, decline CDW (collision damage waver) insurance. Instead, look at your credit card's terms and conditions. It's very likely that rental insurance is included in that. For an eight-day one-way rental in Spain, my price went from €460 to €280. I assumed my normal auto insurance wouldn't cover me outside the US, but thankfully I happened to glance at the benefits pamphlet of my newly issued card, which normally I would have thrown away. Now it's $50/day; you can't even get that price in the US (as an 18-20 year old). Reserved a CWMR (C-segment, wagon, manual, air conditioning) diesel from Sixt, and presum…

May 10, 2007 - In an outbreak reminiscent of the early stages of SARS and bird flu, pigs are growing sick and dying across China’s southeastern Guangdong province. Roughly 3,000 pigs have been infected on hundreds of family farms and about 300 have died. Early reports from Chinese scientists attribute the outbreak to porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome (PRRS), which first appeared 18 years ago and was originally called Mystery Swine Disease. But certain symptoms of the current outbreak, including massive hemorrhaging, are not consistent with PRRS, and might indicate that the disease—most likely caused by a virus—has mutated. The outbreak has renewed fears that a…

So there is a thread asking where the other countries are as far as hurricane support. Other countries? Where the hell were we? Finally today, after 4 days of reeeeeally bad conditions, federal help in the form of Nat’l guard convoys with food and water start flowing in. Areas have literally be reduced the status of third world countries and it took 4 days. People really are dying in the streets. Does this administration plan anything at all? How many days were meteorologists saying one of the biggest storms of all time is coming? Logic would tell you that you’d want to have responders staged and ready to go. OK so that wasn’t done. People asked today “what took you so l…

Well, I looked back on the lounge section and noticed there were no Katrina posts. If there were, my fault. Anyway. What does everyone think about this horrible disaster that seems to be getting worse everyday? Does anyone here affected or know someone who was affected by storm? I think it's horrible that so many people had died when many of those deaths could've been prevented but I think no one realized how bad this was going to be. Your thoughts...

Hey everyone! There's going to be a vintage carshow at Lexington's Keeneland horsetrack this Saturday from 10am-4pm and I was just curious to know if anyone is going to be there? Its only $15 entry so I'll probably go, should be cool. Radio commercial this morning said that they have 5 classic Corvette's on loan from the GM Heritage Museum, including a Mako Shark. From looking at the 2005 show winners on their website: http://www.keenelandconcours.com/ They apparently have EVERYTHING classic, from Porsches to Maseratis to Corvettes to Mustangs. For $15, can't really beat a good show like that. If anyone's going to be there, we can maybe have a meet'n'greet or something,…

The 3rd annual Keeneland carshow was today. Featured make was the Corvette, all makes and trims welcome for the Corvette, so there were supposedly over 200 Vettes at the show. I took pictures of the classic ones, since any of us can usually walk outside and see a C4/C5/C6. Strangely, there were no C6 Z06's, which struck me as odd. Also at the show were 5 Corvette Concepts on loan from the GM Heritage Museum: Mako Shark, Mako Shark 2, Aerovette, Sting Ray 2 and Sting Ray 3. BEAUTIFUL cars. Here are my pictures!

It's been a while since we've polled on this...and we usually do it in poll form. So without a poll, pick ONE car color that you could apply to any and all of the cars you like. You can pick: ( a ) color, ( b ) basic depth - light, medium or dark, ( c ) metallic or enamel No need to describe your back-up...just ONE. My pick: Light Metallic Blue Why that choice? Both of the Cutlass Supremes and the Camaro I had were this color. I think it worked on all the cars I've owned, or would consider owning. Unfortunately, Glacier Blue Metallic was no longer a 2008 offering on LaCrosse, or I would have picked it. Why the poll? I went to my local B-(P)-C-GM and …

As I was reading about the death of the Park Ave, it got me to wonder what to do with my beater. Its been a good car. The engine and trans run strong (really shows on its good days) It just seems to have fuel issues. It has no pickup, idles quite rough, pretty bad milage(which could be fixed) Parts looking to be replaced: Fuel leak-tiny-right between back tires. Looks like a gas tank replacement.... As above, looks like a new EGR.... And a new hose connect to the rad...... She's rusty, but not too bad (bottom of doors, rocker panels, bottom of hatch) 13 midwesterm winters will do that to a car... If I do it, I can get help to cut the labor costs dow…

Kevin Harvick and #29 Monte Carlo Win Daytona 500 A hard-charging Kevin Harvick nosed out Mark Martin at the finish line Sunday to win the Daytona 500 as a multi-car crash was taking place behind them. Martin had the lead, but the race stayed green and Harvick won by two one-hundredths of a second.Chevrolet takes the first four out of five places and half of the top twenty positions. The top Toyota (Dale Jarrett's #44 Camry) ran 23rd. Click here for all the details.

I think it's really interesting to see organic materials, the very building blocks of Life, being found elsewhere. Feels like a tiny step closer to finding Life out there: Clicky.

Is there any of you here? I'm looking to get a keyboard. Some guys play drums, some guys play guitar... Me, I want to play piano. Always wanted to, but lately this feeling has been increased for some unknown reason. I figure, being that time of year, it'd make a nice gift for myself. I just wondering what I should look for. There are many of them out there and I have no idea what ones are good, bad, complex, or simple. I'd say the maximum price for one would be $200. Any suggestions, if anyone here actually knows any more than I do?

I swung by the Kia dealer to take a peak at that new Optima they got. In a word, I was impressed. I'm still wary of the reliability and mechanical bits, but the styling is striking and the interior design and materials are on par with the competition. I didn't test drive it because I'm going to wait til late April to compare it to the new '12 Civic Si sedan and others, but I sat in it and examined the interior material choices. It's definitely on my test drive list now. Must be that new Audi lead designer they nabbed. My main gripe is that the 6MT is ONLY available on the base model with no options or packages (par for the course with these midsize sedans). But on the b…

....French Poodles perk up cock their head to the side. It's so much fun owning this car. Everyone stares at it, old men & women with arthritis stand up and work through the pain to tell me their personal stories of 1959 Buicks or 1957 Buicks or 1949 Chevys. So far I've averaged about two conversations with strangers every time I've taken out the car, & the Datsun has not moved a mile in the past two weeks. Yesterday I had a short interesting conversation with the G/F's Grandmother's neighbor about the Buick... then I got a hearty thumbs up and air horn from a truck driver in a red Peterbilt 379 with high rise smoke stacks. But then,…

Stupid killers/personal trainers. I signed up for the "personal fitness evaluation" at my new gymnasium, and had my session last evening. Today I am typing with my left incisor because I cannot move anything else. I hope I don't make any mistakes tiping. He said his goal was to make me hate him at the end. He achieved his goal. Ben Gay, you are my loved one.

My wife's nice is going to marry the dude on the right (Recent ST. Patrick's Day). She is 100% Irish and he is 100% Scottish. My issue is that she wants me to give her away, all the men in the whole wedding party will be wearing kilts, just shoot me now! It's like wearing a dress, at least for me. I'm Italian/German, this is not something we do. Just kill me now!!!
