I'm having the strangest problem with my e-mail, here are the symptoms: - e-mails from friends and family are not showing up at all - I can't get emails through Outlook, but can access my acct through the provider's server - My own test e-mails to myself go through (but not to outlook) - a test e-mail from my provider goes through (but not to Outlook) - Now, here's the strange one. I responded to an e-mail about the jag on Craigslist and the responses from that person make me think scam. But, their e-mails go through to the provider's server! Has my e-mail been hijacked?!!

FITCHBURG, Mass. -- A 79-year old driver plowed into a store in Fitchburg on Monday afternoon. The elderly woman not only accelerated into the building, but she drove over two curbs before crashing right through the storefront window. Firefighters pulled the woman out of her car and away from a sheet of broken glass that was hanging just inches from her head. Fortunately, she was able to walk away. βMy first reaction...how did she do that,β said Simone Shoruy, who filmed the accident scene. Shoruy immediately rushed to the scene. βIt looked like she was parking. She opened her door and before she even got out or anything, the door shut and she just accelerated into …

If so, what was it? My one and only RHD experience (so far) was a Turner sportscar. It was manual and a race car - so it was a bit challenging. It would take me a while to become used to shifting with my left hand, I think.

clicky This isn't a bad article on the subject. It looks at the BIG picture (inproved fuel economy vs cost of buying a hybrid). If mathematics causes your brain to lock-up, you'd be best to skip the article. The quick and dirty summary: Gas-electric hybrids are the most fuel-efficient passenger cars on the road and ecologically there isn't a more viable option. Until something big changes, though, the industry-high efficiency can't economically offset the steep sticker price.

Lately I've gotten into the habit of drinking more and more water. I'm 16, and prior to this year, I rarely drank water at all. I've noticed that I feel healthier overall and have really learned to enjoy it. I drink both bottled and tap water (I don't prefer one over the other), but know people who refuse to drink tap. Personally, I have no problem filling up straight from the sink. Recently I've learned that tap water can actually be better for you than anything out of a bottle. According to some recent studies, bottled water can have more bacteria and less fluoride than regular old tap water. Moreover, bottled water isn't held to the same standards regarding fi…

So every year our paper prints the top executives pay here in MN. CEO of Target, 'total compensation' 45 mill. He may be good, but NOT THAT good. and so on, and so on. some guy in charge of lifetime fitness pulled in 40 mill......for renting floor space and treadmills. to top it off some can't afford food and look what these guys make. I wish it were practical to boycott these guy's companies so they go down the toilet and these guys get their salaries 'adjusted'. Problem is, the Target is one mile from my house and its a darn nice store and its handy, and it means I don't have to shop in a Walmart. Having to shop at Walmart is akin to having someone pour ga…

You like beer. I know you do. And your minions have been trying to lure me to the dark (and light) side for ages. While free beer at parties hasn't done it, perhaps a tour of Pennsylvania's beer industry has. I gathered a couple friends, we piled into an Infiniti QX56 and headed off to see the best of what Pennsylvania brews. Check out my article on "What Ales Ya" and let your friends know about some of the Keystone State's best breweries. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/4401 What are your favorite (non-corporate) beers? Have you ever taken a brewery tour? Have you ever attended a beer tasting?

I guess I'm conservative with cars...DUH. Well, I think about the rental cars out there. Once put into service, they don't know who will be driving it and how and I think they change the oil the very first time at around 7,000 miles, per the owner's manual. When I got my new car, I drove it real "easy" the first 1,000 miles or so, mixing both city and highway driving. Then, I took it in for a "break in" oil and filter change at about 1,500 miles and then returned to a regimen of changes every 2,500 miles or so. The car has been awesome. I really believe that any "impurities" in the oil or the engine will be flushed out with an early oil change and that things will…

Alright, so there's another teacher I work with that owns a 2003 or 2004 Chrylser Sebring convertible. This is her 2nd one and she's had her share of repair horrors (1st one had too many tranny problems). She wants a new convertible sometime this summer. Another colleague bought a 2006 Toyota Solara convertible last summer and loves it; no problems and claims because it's a Toyota. Now my 1st colleague has owned nothing buy domestic cars and is considering her first foreign car. She needs trunk room for her beach stuff and backseat room for her young niece and nephew. That rules out the Pontiac G6. I showed her the Saab 9-3 convertible, but the price is more than s…

I have a friend nice lady but somewhat well dingy I would say and she is getting new or slightly used luxury CUV/SUV. She has enlisted my help to help her look and decide upon one. She basically has narrowed it down to four CUV's... I suggested the Lincoln MKX (said no) Caddy SRX (said no) and also the Buick Enclave (said no and it was too big). My friend likes image and the Cadillac nor Buickish/Lincoln image prolly appeal to her. Can't make her buy one. The options... In recent years my wife and I have had GREAT luck with the GM dealers (besides the Saturn dealer). Don't get me wrong, they've made mistakes but they always make amends for their error. Most importantly they ALWAYS make sure to provide professional customer service. If I wasn't such a GM fan I would have headed down to the toyota dealer to trade in my Buick by now. Not because the car isn't great, which it is. But because of POOR customer service. The story is long. For those that have time (also very rough as I wrote quickly with little regard to grammar and such) . . . My experience with the Buick/Cadillac/GMC/Pontiac Dealer in McMinnville, OR β Larsen Motor…

This topic is simply your voice on telling Joe and Jane Camcord buyers of better alternatives than the frequently selected Camry and Accord. Make your argument for xx car is better than Camry and Accord and why. There is no limit to your suggestions other than it should be a comparable type sedan in a similar price range with similar functional value and size / features. Tell us what car, model approx price and how its configured. The idea with this thread is to educate potential buyers about all the other great cars available in the camcord or similar segment(s) that people are missing out on by blindly gravtitating toward to those perennial best sellers.

I found some great video on one of our major highways and some of the back roads we go on to avoid traffic. Skip 1/2 way through for the better part of this road. Though we use the dirt roads for rallying, we mostly just use them to get where we need to go (mostly wineries). Faiview (the dirt road) is just a few blocks from my place. We live on one of those fancy paved streets in the big city (just over 3000 people).

My daughter will start driving this year and going off to some university in two years. Mrs. PCS is starting to have empty nest issues and keeps whispering in my ear it's not to late to have one more. She is hard to resist once she has her mind set on something. I'm 38 so I would be 56 by the time the next one would be going off to college. So I guess my question is are there any older dads out there and if there are, looking back would you have had another child again, knowing what you know now? If you want to PM me your answer, that's cool too.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did, and maybe it will help you take life a little slower and with more meaning. In July 2006, a short 3-minute movie was launched on the Internet called The Dash. Since then, over 40 million people from around the world have watched it, and over 20,000 a day continue to watch it as a result of people passing it along. The movie has been more successful than anyone could have ever imagined. More importantly, however, it has inspired many, many people to reflect on their lives and ask that all important question, 'Are my priorities where they should be?' I leave you with this movie and I hope you share it with those who are close to…

While watching "Last Comic Standing" tonight, NBC showed two promo spots for a new show starting this fall called "My Own Worst Enemy" with Christian Slater. He plays a duel character - Henry, the average joe, and Eddie, a cross between 007 and an assassin. The second promo showed "Henry" driving in his mundane blue Chevy Traverse, while "Eddie" cruises around in a silver 5th generation Camaro coupe. So NBC is showing both Ford (Knight Rider) and Chevy some lovin' with new fall shows.

I've let it grow the last week and it is coming in quite full. Anyone else have a full beard, or had one in the past, any pointers you can give or advice? Let me know.

Darn it, I need to apologize to those I've offended here in The Lounge lately. Here I am, moaning about all the malaise that has spilled into our little "escape pod" on the 'net, and I've been adding to it myself. I really want to get away from all the negativity that has plagued The Lounge lately. It's bad enough to hear of the latest seemingly insurmountable challenge befalling our beloved GM and the rest of the domestic auto industry in the rest of C&G, but to me, this part of the forum should be a safe haven from "The World" and all its harsh realities.

Its finally winter weather time. Its about 40 and windy after a rainy day. Tomorrows high is supposed to be 39. Going out anywhere is absolutely out of the question, cold weather puts a damper on just about everything. So we're coping the best way we know how, a fire going in the fireplace, some pizza and, soon enough, a viewing of Anchorman, because it remains the best movie ever made. Is there any better way to kick off 6 months of cabin fever?

Has anyone ever heard of this before? Around the country and especially around the upper Midwest, dozens of bright college-age males have been found drowned in rivers, lakes, and ponds after a night of drinking. The "smiley face killer" theory was proposed by a couple retired NYPD cops because a dozen or so of the crime scenes had smiley faces carved into objects nearby. They are found after they have left a bar or party alone. I believe one person survived and told the police someone had pushed them over the edge into a river. The retired cops have pieced together clues and believe it may even be a ring of serial killers around the country. The reason I bring this …

Ahh- the smell of model cement !! I spent some time as a kid building plastic models- if any of us hasn't, I'd be surprised. I built maybe 15. When I moved out, my mom tossed 'em all off my 3-tier shelf- I wasn't really upset I suppose. I do have a half dozen of the boxes, as they were usually packed with odds-n-ends; them, I still have. I don't think we've done a thread on this, so perhaps some pics of some favorites would be interesting. Some of mine I built (via Google): The Tom Daniels stuff was fantastic. Others were mostly classics- '30s-40s stuff, nothing from the '50s/60s. Anyone else?

I swung by the Kia dealer to take a peak at that new Optima they got. In a word, I was impressed. I'm still wary of the reliability and mechanical bits, but the styling is striking and the interior design and materials are on par with the competition. I didn't test drive it because I'm going to wait til late April to compare it to the new '12 Civic Si sedan and others, but I sat in it and examined the interior material choices. It's definitely on my test drive list now. Must be that new Audi lead designer they nabbed. My main gripe is that the 6MT is ONLY available on the base model with no options or packages (par for the course with these midsize sedans). But on the b…

I asked in the tech section a question about a coworker's 1991 Chevy Caprice not too long ago. http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=10943 John wanted to get it fixed so that his newly-licensed son would have a car to drive. Well, his wife didn't want him to drive the Caprice, so they went out and bought a new Honda Accord (for the wife, not the son!). The son will now drive a 2001 Impala. John is thinking of donating the car to the American Red Cross motor pool (local one that resells donated cars to raise cash) or some other "donate your car for a tax break" place. Now my question is should I offer to buy it? I don't need a 4th car, but I do li…

OK. I am at the pizza store getting a pizza to go and I am noticing the really hot chick bending down in front of me writing a check or whatever at the register to purchase her pizza. We're talking brunette 5'10 sexpot thin and leggy with a great ass and impressive rack. She has TIIIIGHHHT stretch pants on. Ok, i am watching. Inevtible in the britney spears era is the whole half an ass sticking up over the top of her waistline. Nice and tan. VERY NICE. except HUGE TATTOO. WTF? Its not like i need a target. i know what I am aiming for. Now, I have no issues with the part about if you want a tattoo, get one etc. I am just one of those that thinks the ca…

If I had the money, I would do this... ...To the front of my S10. Also, I was flipping through an Auto Trader Extra the other day, and found something I'm going to look into: locally, there is a 1994 Chevy S10 for sale with a 350 V8 for only $2,900. I know the truck is worth that much in powertrain modification alone, so I'm excitied I found this kind of deal. I have to pick up another Extra, though, to get the name of the dealer and the phone number. There is one problem, however: the color is yellow, and it's not GTO YellowJacket yellow, either. This shade is too . . . light for my tastes, so I'm thinking I'll eventually do a paint scheme that would be pearlescent b…

Not to start a riot or anything but I've kinda always wondered this. Have you known it to upset a Jewish person to see the Nazi flag? Only reason I ask is because in my town, quite a few people wave around the Confederate flag (MD's kinda Northerly to me, go figure) and lots of people I know get pissed off when they see it. It annoys me but never gets me angry. It's kinda like a flag of a failed nation to me, and I can get over the negative connotations. I mean, the oppression is sad and stuff, but if it's a sign of the culture that some southern people still hold dear, it's OK to me and I actually respect it. So what about Jewish people? Since not a lot of German …

Well, in a positive turn of events, my ex paid the remaining lease payments on our '07 A4 and gave it to me to drive. The lease has until December of this year. (I'm first on the lease, so you could argue it's my car anyways....LOL.) This is good....because I'm about 4,000 miles over on my CTS lease....and it needs tires.....so with the Audi, I can drive that until December, park the CTS, let the miles equalize, and not have to put tires on it for another year or so. It's been an interesting comparo to have.....two cars that are almost the same amount of money.....(A4...$39,000 msrp, CTS...$41,000 msrp)....couldn't be so different to be in and to drive. The A4 is …

So yesterday we went to get the T&C out of the tow yard where it was being kept. Assuming it was drivable the plan was for me to drive it home with my girlfriend and mom following behind me. We get to yard, pay the bill and my girlfriend and I go to the van. It's way at the corner of the yard against a fence and about 6 inches away from some smashed up Elantra. I get in and start it up, then slowly back it out. I hear dragging and she points out the exhaust is on the ground...oh goodie. I move the van to an open space and notice that the force of the impact knocked it off of the hangers...no big deal. I get under the van and look around under it while I'm putting the …

Hey everyone been super busy lately. I got my license back after having it suspended for a DUI which I got because i was a complete idiot and drank and drove and I ran into a checkpoint. I sold my 2006 malibu SS to pay for the legal bills and to pay off the ballance of the car and a few other debts since I wasn't going to be driving for about 4 months. So I got it bacl about 3 days ago and I don't NEED a car right now but it ould be convienient to have and I WILL need a car come next school year. So thought about what cars I wanted for a good long while. First I wanted RWD, I was tired of FWD cars. For GM that left me the CTS, since I scratched a sky or solstice…

Just for kicks ~ Take what you paid for your daily driver, then look up it's trade in average value on kbb.com. Take that difference (your vehicle's depreciation), and divide it by the miles you've driven it (to the nearest 500 or 1000 should be fine). This gives you a cost per mile for ownership (obviously separate from maintenance/repairs). Me ~ '04 Silverado 2500HD, $15035 difference, 133K miles = 11 cents/mile.

Maybe it's just be, although I know it isn't, but I am getting sick and tried of more and more ads and packaging being in Spanish. At first it was English on top with smaller Spanish below it, then Spanish got bigger until it was the same size, and recently I've seen ads only in Spanish. That really Pisses me off. The first example of this was a several months ago where there were small promotional ads in a store in the soda section that had to do with Pirate of the Caribbean and Coca Cola. There were 4 or 5 of these ads spread throughout the isle and every one of them was in Spanish. Today while browsing Autoblog Sprint just showed a cell phone ad that was exclusiv…

SEOUL, South Korea β Punching their fists into the air and shouting "Let's crush them!" some 100,000 North Koreans packed Pyongyang's main square Thursday for an anti-U.S. rally as the communist regime promised a "fire shower of nuclear retaliation" for any American-led attack. Several demonstrators held up a placard depicting a pair of hands smashing a missile with "U.S." written on it, according to footage taken by APTN in Pyongyang on the anniversary of the day North Korean troops charged southward, sparking the three-year Korean War in 1950. North Korean troops will respond to any sanctions or U.S. provocations with "an annihilating blow," one senior official vowe…

I've been thinking about this question for a little bit, and I haven't come to an obvious answer. The question is this: Why are warranties not an optional extra? Especially on cheap cars. I don't actually know how much a warranty costs, but it must be at least a few hundred dollars on today's reliable autos. A warranty is surely a much higher percentage of the cost of an economy car than a luxo barge, so why is it that very price-conscious consumers have not demanded this? And why have no bargain brands offered it? A warranty is merely an insurance policy on breakdowns; you can always buy one that goes beyond the one provided by the manufacturer. The only possible conclu…

Ok, of this I am certain: there are Denny's from Boston to Barstow. That being said, they are doing the "no coupon - no strings attached" Free Grand Slam breakfast today, from 6am to 2pm. I'm walking over there with 2 co-workers for lunch to get a late breakfast (LOL). Anyone else partake? While not Bob's Big Boy, their food is at least edible.

this is an editorial from a mag subscription i have to Muscle Machines. i thought it was a good read and patiently waited for it to be available on the hemmings site so as not to have to type it up. so without further delay "A Lesson Learned" by Craig Fitzgerald. I was driving home from work the other night, listening to an interview from Boch Toyota, located down near my old home in Massachusetts. The subject, of course, was the recall of some three million Toyotas to fix an issue with the accelerator pedal that was causing the pedal to stick to the floor in some very rare cases. Two things came immediately to mind. The first was an issue I had with my 1989 F-150. It…
