I'm looking into a sun visor upgrade for my '99 Saturn SC2. I noticed today while junkyarding that '90's Grand Am's and some other '90's and early '00's GM cars seem to share the same 3-screw mounting design. I didn't get a chance to test and see if the visors really would swap, but they look the same, and I could easily believe that Saturn dipped into the parts pin for their visor hardware. So, what I'm hoping to find is that some model/trim level that uses this 3-screw mounting design (for the swivel end) came with sun visors that had the extension flap piece. I have it in my suburban, I've had it in buicks past, and would like that little slide out extension in th…

clicky This isn't a bad article on the subject. It looks at the BIG picture (inproved fuel economy vs cost of buying a hybrid). If mathematics causes your brain to lock-up, you'd be best to skip the article. The quick and dirty summary: Gas-electric hybrids are the most fuel-efficient passenger cars on the road and ecologically there isn't a more viable option. Until something big changes, though, the industry-high efficiency can't economically offset the steep sticker price.

Me, the wife & kids got in the AURA yesterday around 2:15 PM and decided to head-up to NYC. We usually go before Christmas every year and typically for the whole day, but as we're getting older and have more to do, we're finding it harder to make the time to get there before the holidays. A very long 3 hours later (normally a 1.5 hour trip - too much traffic on the NJ Turnpike, a 40-minute wait to get into the Lincoln Tunnel, and traffic backups on all NYC streets should have made me turn around!), we're parking the car and walking around Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and on Fifth Avenue (a stop at the World of Disney NYC was a must). We ate at Planet Hollywood…

listing in the local classified ad for a 1986 el camino choo choo and a 1989 iroc camaro, first $5000 takes em both. interestingly enough its good to see the prices on cars coming back down. watching barrett jackson in pebble beach i saw several good cars go fo good money. 1970 ss 454 monte carlo in astro blue with a black vinyl top for $20K several good cruisers could be had for under 20 on the first days. in fact an old cutlass went for 8500 with only 3500 miles on it. black with a tan top. tan interior. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application...h/w_search.aspx

Remember this thread? Something's wrong with my car, and I'm told it may be related to my accident. I went on a trip this weekend to visit family. My driveway's on about a 10-15º incline, and when I sat down, my seat broke - the seat and and the seat back tilted backwards about 30º - as if it were hinged only at the back. When I got to my in-laws, I got a good look, and what happened is this: There's a metal bar that's used to raise and lower the front of the seat via a screw-type mechanism that rotates the bar like an axle. An arm attached to the bar raises and lowers the seat as the bar twists. the female part of this screw-lift equasion had snapped clean off of …

This may or may not get printed over on that site, so I pasted it here to at least discuss. While I have stated for a long time what Dr. Bud [E. Bryan's Roadkill column] is saying about NASCAR going back to production-based cars, just wanted to tweak the suggestions a little, give it some direction. NASCAR is about bread-and-butter cars. Pony cars aren't bread and butter, leave those to IROC and Trans Am. While standards like the Charger and Impala would be good for this new-look NASCAR, racing is supposed to improve the breed, and the breed that needs improvement is the boring "Camcord"-dominated world of mid-size cars. So here's what should be done. -Go with ho…

I've heard many good things about this movie from movie friends of mine that have gotten to see a sneak preview. Johnnie Cash is a legend of music and always will be, no matter what type of music you chose to listen to. Will you be seeing this movie? I just picked up his "greatest hits" CD today and I must say, it's damn good. Got the new Kenny Chesney CD today too. There's the country in me coming out.

It's snowing out. Who wants to kidnapp me and take me someplace warm... and without snow? I don't take up much space and I'm not afraid of small places. Just give me enough room to be able to lay down fully... something comfy to lay on (I bet it'll be more comfy than my own bed, so just anything)... and some privacy. Okay? Who's up for it? I'm serious.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did, and maybe it will help you take life a little slower and with more meaning. In July 2006, a short 3-minute movie was launched on the Internet called The Dash. Since then, over 40 million people from around the world have watched it, and over 20,000 a day continue to watch it as a result of people passing it along. The movie has been more successful than anyone could have ever imagined. More importantly, however, it has inspired many, many people to reflect on their lives and ask that all important question, 'Are my priorities where they should be?' I leave you with this movie and I hope you share it with those who are close to…

In regards to milage of the Civic in thier long term test. Here's what I sent, let's see if they post it in their next issue... "Was reading through the long term test of the '06 Honda Civic on page 172 of the Aug. '06 issue. The gas milage and current MT average of 24 mpg got me thinking of my fiance's 6 year old 183,000 mile Oldsmobile Alero. Now here's a car (the Civic) that made car of the year with all it's new tech yet get's 24 mpg average. Now I do understand that being a test vehicle that it is surely to be driven harder than normal and would get a bit better mpg otherwise, however I've been a bit hard on the Alero at times and the worse mpg we've ever seen from…

There are cars and trucks that are ugly, slow and/or impractical. They might have cheap interiors or suck at handling. They could also be obscenely overpriced or blandest thing on four wheels. You may just plain not like them as of course, taste and priorities vary from person to person. In fact, as I'm typing this, I'm thinking the question of what is a bad car may be both subjective and objective as weird as it sounds. So I guess I have a two-part question here: -Do you see the issue of "bad cars" as being subjective, objective or something in between? -Based on that, are any "bad cars" made today?

I also have a flash drive or thumb drive that I use up at the university at night and on weekends when I do crap for my night classes. Thus far, I have never had problems with a file on my flash drive. Interestingly enough, I got a message on the flash drive while at work, after a crash, that said "Volume is dirty." Why do companies waste money advetising things that sell very poorly. I see boatloads of commercials for the Ford Flex which sells less than 2000 per month. Mercury and Mitsibishi run endless amounts of commercials and don't sell hardly any vehicles. This wasted money should go towards makng more desirable vehicles.

I see those commericials from time to time. You know, the commericials promising that if you buy a car from Police Auctions and so forth, you can get a car from $500 bucks and up. Now, I don't know if I would go that route, but the word "police" got me thinking about a car...to be more specific, a 1994 - 1996 Chevy Caprice 9C1. The same car that Johnny Law used (and is still using somewhere) to write John Public a speeding ticket. Why the 9C1? Well, truth is, I'd settle for a Classic from that year range. And God knows I'd be happy with an Impala SS. Who wouldn't? I guess I'm singling out the 9C1 is because it has a heavy-duty suspension along with engine and tranny twe…

My wife's company is headquartered in Denmark (it's a pharmacutical company). She was asked to attend a workshop there for several days next week (Sept 23-27). She asked what I'd like for her to bring me back, and I couldn't really think of anything until this morning. Depending on what brand of GM vehicles are sold there (i.e. Vauxhall, Opel), I'd like a brochure from them (I'm a cheap person to get gifts for at times). She'll have time to tour the city and will be taken around by someone she knows from Denmark that comes to the States often at her work, so they should know where to find these dealerships. Any help???

Australia is in the midst of a crippling drought, the country's worst on record. Many towns and cities have been forced to enact drastic water restrictions as reservoirs have run dry. Rivers have been reduced to a trickle. The drought has severely damaged the agricultural sector. Farmers are raising emaciated cattle and sheep. Cotton-lint production has plummeted. Wine grape and rice output has collapsed. Agricultural production has fallen by almost one-quarter in a year. And it is estimated that the drought has knocked three-quarters to 1 per cent off the country's growth as a whole. And now the government is reaching for desperate measures. Australia's Prime Minister,…

Tonight my friend called me up asking me some car advice. He drives a black 2002 Taurus SES with 65K miles and was offered a great deal on an '04 LeSabre Custom. The LeSabre only has 25K miles and is excellent shape; my honest opinion with him was that if you can get past the stigma these cars had, you'll be getting a larger, more powerful car with an excellent track record for reliability. I told him about the 3800 getting about 29 mpg on the highway, which is more than his Taurus gets. He's also a pretty tall guy (6'9"), and the Taurus is a little cramped for him. When he first called saying he was looking at trading in for a different car, I never expected him to…

TACOMA, Wash. - A Thai immigrant convicted of incest led investigators to the body of a 12-year-old girl who had been missing since the Fourth of July, and is expected to be charged in her death, authorities said Friday. Police are also trying to determine whether Terapon Adhahn, 42, is connected to other missing child cases that date back to 1986. Zina Linnik, abducted during a neighborhood fireworks display, died from "homicidal violence," said Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum and the Pierce County medical examiner's office. Her body was found in a rural wooded area after information from Adhahn's lawyer led police and FBI agents there, authorities said. Adh…

Ok, you are in a supermarket or at Costco or in a large office building. You are walking around a corner or going down the aisle and you almost run into / come face-to-face with a person who has a disease which has disfigured them, have been severely burned or subjected to some other tragedy that has markedly altered their appearance. Because of the fact that you were taken off guard and you were hurrying about, you would have ordinarily tried to be very composed, but I think that what happens is that you may make eye contact and then look away a little TOO quickly. All of these famous people are just dying left and right. Darren McGavin, Dennis Weaver, Don Knotts, Kirby Puckett yesterday and I've just recently heard Dana Reeve passed on last night. Puckett and Reeve weren't exactly what you'd consider old, either. What is going on??

C&G has been my home on the net for a few years now and it's good to be back. In early October my trusty Toshiba laptop took a fall and died a horrible death, and as such I've been without a computer since then. But my misery of being without a keyboard at my finger tips and C&G before my eyes has come to an end, today I bought a brand new HP Pavilion. Now I'm not a computer savy guy so I'll try to explain the specs as best as I can, it has 5GB memory and a 640GB hard drive, AMD Phenom X4 processor and an Nvidia graphics card. The package also came with a 22'' HP monitor which can swivel and rotate. I'm still trying to get used to it going from a laptop and g…

Dang was there a big conspiracy for everyone to sell their F bodies at the same time? I'm sure Camino is selling his Firehawk for personal reasons, but is everyone else saving up for the new Camaro or what?

...and it kicks monumental ass. B) I actually haven't listened to the entire thing yet but the song I'm currently listening to, "Coming Undone", is one of my instant favorites. I got the deluxe album which gives me a bonus CD with extra songs, remixes, and videos. Plus, I get a one-year membership to the Korn BSC fan club. The icing on the cake was getting a free Korn poster of the album art signed by the band. Such a good day. :)

http://www.proximityhotel.com/ My GF and her classmate's project for architecture this semester was to coordinate with the owner of this hotel (He owns multiple hotels and fronts a foundation for community improvement) and basically re-design a large part of downtown Greensboro NC. Yesterday, we had her final critique at The Proximity which included him, the other big members of the foundation and several key people in the leadership of the city. Of course, as far as we know, everything was theoretical, but it would provide a very good and complete basis if the foundation wanted to move forward with plans. The foundation funded everything, from trips to Greensboro …

Since my 2007 travels are over, I've started looking at plans for 2008, including.... April 11-13 ... Michigan ... Monte Carlos @ Michigan International Speedway (MIS) June 27-30 ... Pennsylvania ... NMCOA MC Nationals August 8-12 ... Indiana / Ohio / Pennsylvania / New Jersey / Maryland / Arlington VA ... family reunion in PA (Aug 11) and "side trip" October 3-5 ... Missouri/southern IL ... Midwest Monte Carlo gathering And, looking at those plans, I wonder: What are your favorite car shows/cruise nights/events/gatherings ... be them local, regional or national? So I guess anything over about 150 watts needs to be hard wired to the battery? Surely the cigarette lighter socket would be running off the alternator no? Or is that socket just not designed to handle more than about 150 watts? Then again I'm not looking to run a convection oven in the front seat....want to run my laptop and maybe some camera battery chargers.

So I have a friend who is finally getting rid of his learners and getting his full license. He told me he was buying a car for 500$ from his great uncle and that it was American and he thought it was a GM but beyond that he didn't know what it was as the name of the car was unfamiliar (he couldn't quite remember it). He described it as a "big white coupe" with red leather upholstery and that the car was MY 1990. I came by there today only to find out that the car he spoke of was a 1990 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo in white with the Garnet leather interior. It has 100'000 miles and is in pretty decent shape. It has the fully functional factory original Oldsmobile Visu…

My neighbor sent me an email asking if I'd be interested in replacing a bad head gasket in his Subaru wagon. I did a little quick research online tonight. I'm thinking no.

* Each time I visit, I INTEND to visit regularly to not have so much catching up to do, but life gets in the way. A good thing, for the most part. May was the last time I visited, so some FYI updates, with links for pics and more info, if you are interested. But 1st: Anyone in Chicagoland want to meet? Also, I am formulating road trips to northwest IL, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, southern IL, Tennessee, Carolinas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, etc, so please advise if you would like me to visit! Along the way, I may attend EVENTS listed on my 3 websites: https://www.cdshowcase.com/events/ https://www.cdconsultingservice.com/events/ https://www.oldcars…

I have no plans to arrange any 2010 gatherings; however, several people have asked me if any are in the works and why no announcements have been made. Thus...: 1 ... What draws your interest in a gathering? 2 ... What keeps your interest in a gathering for you to attend as planned? 3 ... Are you interested in a MidSummer Chitown gathering in Elgin IL, July TwentyTen? Depending on the responses, I may arrange a July 24 (or 31) gathering, in Elgin IL, for MULTIPLE boards (car- and heart-related, etc.), starting at 11a with a short drive ... and lasting into the evening. Recent gatherings.... MARCH 2008 ~10 people attended a gathering of 2 heart-related groups at a S…

Today I too was the victim of the C&G Curse. Rear ended by a Toyota Camry taxicab (I guess you can only talk sh!t about Toyota so long without one of them coming to get you). I'm in my car sitting at a stoplight when I feel a huge bump and look in my mirror to see a cab has run into me. Driver was drinking from a water bottle and dropped it approaching the stoplight... The water bottle was pinned behind his brake pedal and he said he couldn't stop. I'll post some pics of the damage but suffice to say the whole bloody bumper needs to be replaced (FML).

I'm starting to see some amazingly good deals out there. I haven't been in the stock market for a few years now. The last time I bought in was the bottom of the market crash just after 9-11. I took just a few hundred dollars and was able to turn it into a substantial down payment for my CTS. Highest on my list is CBRE At 70 cents a share, they seem like a great deal. They pay a dividend, they're small cap, and they have a tremendous upside once the real estate market returns.

After another brief vacation from the forums, I might be back to posting. Maybe... You never know with me, afterall. For now, though, I'm here after a few months of hell getting ready for a move, working overtime, and dealing with an awful dealership. For those who don't know, I'm moved back to Michigan to do the same job I did the last time. I'm even literally just down the street from where I was last time. Hopefully, I'll make this move a little more permanent than the last try. If you weren't aware of what I was doing previously, it probably isn't very hard to figure out if you search. So, I'll be doing that as well as a few other side projects involving the indus…

On live TV. They say either he took a puck or a stick to the throat. He collapsed while on the bench exiting the ice, shortly after the Wings instantly called for a medic and C.P.R. began. Lets hope this is not as bad as it looks on T.V.
