Looks like it might be car buying time for me again over the summer... I'm a 19 yr old university student though so I don't have a huge budget... I'll probably get something between $4000 and $6500 Canadian... I've been looking around and have seen some decent prices on Cherokees, Impalas, Monte Carlos, Intrigues, Lincolns... etc. How are older Caddy Devilles? I asked a while back about the 89-91ish generation and most people told me to generally avoid them. What about the 94 bodystyle? There are great deals on these to, and they are definitely nice cars... I'm just not sure if they'd be a headache to own or not .

I know that LSx engines get stronger as they get less "green," but I've never heard of them getting better gas mileage as well. When I got the GTO with about 6k miles on it, I got 13.3.-13.5MPG consistently on each tank. Then one tank I averaged 14.1MPG and was presently surprised. That went on for a couple tanks, and then the last tank I got 14.6MPG. I thought maybe I was just babying it more than I used to, but now more than 3/4 of the way through the current tank I'm getting 15.1MPG and am definetly not babying it all the time. Anyone ever heard of the LS1 increasing performance AND gas mileage over time? This is also interesting because the Alero which is 700lb…

The other night I was watching a basketball game on TV, and I saw the same commercial for the Sonata about 5 times. At first it's just driving around and whatnot, and then it enters a tunnel. The tunnel scene is VERY similar to the V-Series commercial where the cars start in a tunnel, and then it comes out of the tunnel very similarly to how the V-Series cars do. Has anyone else seen the commercial? If I was Cadillac marketing, I'd be PISSED at Hyundai right now.

This past weekend, on the 7th of May 2006 I joined XP715 and SpeedingPenguin in Welsley Mass at the site of an old Olds dealer for a fantastic car show. XP715 Brought his beater, the one he stores at my house. It's the 1977 Cutlass Supreme we're always talking about. I'm a big fan of the 2000 -to- 2005 Impala. Pretty much the only flaw they have is that they have transverse mounted motors and are FWD. As far as sefety, quality & power economy and smoothness of the Impala it is all fantastic. Once they changed the burgundy tail light surround to black in '03 I pretty much thought the car looked almost PERFECT, even looks like it has a RWD stance. I have (my company has) this one client who is turning out to be a real ass hole. (I wrote about this once before). Unfortunately, I service his current project. I just looked up currency rates. Our dollar buys $ 1.10 worth of Canadian dollars. That is unbelievably bad, relatively speaking. When you throw on their taxes, you are right about 1:1. That's horrible. There is no reason to go vacation in Canada right now. Obviously, it's a field day for them coming down into the States to vacation. I remember that, living in Seattle from 1997 through 2000, the US:Canada ratio went to 1.00 : 1.52 once. Crossing the border to vacation or buy things was like stealing...or felt like it!

As promised months ago here's the two 59 Buicks that are slowly returning back to nature in a Junkyard in New England. The cars are saddly waaaaaaay past saving and as a matter of fact they're almost useless even for any parts. Tomorrow I'll try to get around to posting some more classic car pics from this "outdoor car museum", many of them from the 1930s & 1940s. I got a summer internship in Des Moines, but the place I'm staying only has dial-up internet, so I doubt I will be using the internet much if at all this summer. It's going to be an adjustment because I usually check C&G every night. So if I go up missing here for a while, that's where I am...without the internet. About the only chance I'll get to go online is when I go home or if I drive up to ISU to visit friends up there who have it. 1998 Camaro for those of you not in the know. 3.8L "3800 Series II." Automatic Transmission. Every piece of the motor is apart from the other, after a major knocking noise started to occur. Folks: We've already seen the ordering guides and the new color lists. Surfacing on the horizon for larger cars is a color called Midnight Amethyst Metallic. In reality, it's already here -- on Cobalt, as a minimum. It's interesting, but possibly trendy. It can look somewhat grape-like. I'm pretty unsatisfied with both of my computers right now. My desktop is pretty much a Frankenstein hodge-podge of newer parts (motherboard, processor...) and parts from previous computers (hard drive, RAM...). Hey, today is Cinco de Mayo! Obviously, it's more of an event in the West, particularly California, as our ties and proximity to Mexico are obvious. Planning on doing anything? I might actually go to a happy hour with some co-workers but I think all Mexican restaurants will be quite busy being that it's Friday AND a "special" day.

Yesterday I was going down the street to the strip mall to get a pizza for dinner, I saw this guy in a two door Tahoe. He was backing out of his spot at almost full throttle, and a lady in a Lumina was coming along and the Tahoe almost hit it. Clearly, the Lumina had the right of way, as he wasn't even half out of his spot, but I saw the moron in the Tahoe roll down the windows and start to cursing the woman. Rednecks... don't people these days have driving manners...

I've been thinking this topic up for a while. Who do you know personally that has a strange taste in cars that they like/dislike love/hate? My girlfriend for example, hates the Mini, but loves, of all things, the Scion xB. I have no idea why to this day. She hates the Magnum, but loves the Charger. She loves the Mustang. Ok, so this is kind of a stupid story, but here goes. his moring I was pulling into the North Campus parking lot at college. Usually you can just drive through, but today there was agate installed. that gate has been there before, but it gets broken all the time, so they usually leave busted, but today yet another one was up. While working on my Cavalier today, it got me thinking about what my next beater will be. It's always nice to have an extra car when you need it. Since Camino LS6 asked, I thought I'd share with everyone some pics (14 total, plus 2 extra) of my family's muscle cars. The first post is for the blue 1969 Barracuda, the 2nd post will be the orange 1979 `Cuda, and the last two are msic images. Enjoy! Very little rust on this car at all. What are those features about a car that you just love? I'm not talking so much about "I love a car with a ton of horsepower" or "a car that gets a billion mpg", but the little things that just make you smile. The first one that comes to my mind is the gas cap door with a release inside the car. I also like map lights that are semi-shaded - the light does not have a direct path to your eyes, but more down at the seats, making them much nicer at night. So, what are your favorite features?

Sighs, it never rains but it pours, right? I had my new 71 Camaro at a show a couple of weeks ago and on the way home I started to hear a knocking from the engine compartment. LOUD. I immediately got into a weigh station (lucky it was right there) and shut down. Thankfully my brother had trailered his 73 to the same show and we unloaded it and put my car on the trailer. He then let me drive his car to my place (with only 100 miles on the new engine) while he followed me. With GM's recent search campain to find the longest lasting trucks on the road, but excluding cars and obviously other makes, it left some of us dissapointed. Obviously it's not the same, but I figured why not show off you're car's reliablity to your fellow C & G members? It's fun if nothing else. If at all possible, provide some pics of your car, including of the odometer.
