I just saw an episode of this detective show, The Rockford Files, starring James Garner and was blown away by how good it was, all the '70s cars and the great looking gold Firebird Esprit he drove. It was fun seeing fun poked at the SolCal sensiblities of the time. The series ran from 1974 - 1980. I am definitely going to get this DVD collection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5pYtG_jo3o...related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_dqaWcLucQ

Considering that reverse barely works, I have no plow lights, and there are no coner markers on the plow, Things have gone ok so far. Took an illegal run over to my family's neighborhood to get the first layer off, and I've done this place several times. At the moment we have fairly heavy snow coming down and it is blowing and drifting. Have probably had between 6-8" so far (hard to tell with all of the blowing. Fun,fun, fun. I have a few more hours until the ROPOS turns into a pumpkin due to the lack of plow lights. I'll wait a bit, take care of the dogs, make a Wawa run, and then plow until dark. The morning could be a real challenge, since I can't attack the snow af…

when will the "other guys" start using this standard for engine ratings, and do you think that it would have any effect on what buyers would look for....an SAE rated car vs. and non SAE rated car? one more condition on that, since GM is the only one doing it, (right now, right?) how will it effect things after a few more brands use this standard. one way this could be usefull is if you the powercurves on the performance models and over lay them with the competitions power curves. this make sense? sorry if it doesn't.

Here we go again. So they replaced both the master and slave clutch cylinders. It worked good...for about a week. Saturday night while I was delivering I started having problems. I would have the clutch all the way in and the car sounded like it was going to stall when it was at as stop and in first (like if you were taking the clutch off without giving it gas). It wouldn't come out of gear either...and when I tried to go it would lurch forward and stall. It did this to be like 10 times, and when I got stuck being stalled horizontally in the middle of a main road I had enough. It's like it's gonna kill me one of these times! So I go home and get the Shadow...which made a …

I'm a member of an Australian automotive forum. It's nothing like Cheers&Gears ... more like a cross between Cheers&Gears and the /b/ area of 4chan. Anyhow, a while back one of the members spotted a really ugly Ford Taurus with a home-made wide body kit on eBay, and we knew that for the sake of society, this vehicle had to be obliterated. We took donations from the forum members, and bought the car with the specific intent of destroying it. There were many plans for a spectacular destruction, including one that involved a serious amount of explosives, but one by one these plans became non-events when all the "nanny state" regulations, paperwork, insurance, and o…

Well there's no turning back now. Found myself a decent "Heritage of Ownership" medallion for a first Cadillac on eBay, and that in and of itself is the symbolic beginning of a search that will likely define this year. Mercifully my insurance didn't go up last year after the two accidents I was involved in (though neither of them were my fault in the slightest), in fact my insurance went down- substantially. I have decided that I need a little project on the side to keep me busy (and sane) and have decided to fulfill a childhood dream, killing two birds with one stone. I'm going to find myself a 94-96 Fleetwood Brougham. I'm hoping to find something within Canada b…

It's sad to say but I will be parting ways with my xB within the next month or two. My family has decided to do some car rearranging in order to cut down on expenses and stop me from killing my sister. We have been sharing the xB for about the past year but she just started paying her portion last month. She doesn't care for it...allows people to smoke in it, trashes it, etc. I can't stand it. After my dad's Altima lease ends early next month he will get my mom's 4Runner, my sister will get a cheap car (under $3,000) and me and my mom will share a car. After doing some research this week we narrowed the field down to: 2008 Saturn Vue Mitsu Outlander Nissan Mu…

Commuting to work this morning, I thought this was a joke. But it's true. The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, the "workhorse" of the bridges in the Bay Area, is closed. This one connects to the city to the East Bay where millions of people live in Oakland, Berkeley, and many other towns. (The postcard bridge, the Golden Gate, connects the city to more remote, way more expensive and less populous areas). Unlike almost exactly 20 years ago (Oct 17, 1989) when the Loma Prieta Quake popped a section out of the roadway, this time, there was no natural disaster. A connecting rod on the "East Span," which they are actually replacing with an entirely new bridge as we spe…

Has anyone ever heard of this before? Around the country and especially around the upper Midwest, dozens of bright college-age males have been found drowned in rivers, lakes, and ponds after a night of drinking. The "smiley face killer" theory was proposed by a couple retired NYPD cops because a dozen or so of the crime scenes had smiley faces carved into objects nearby. They are found after they have left a bar or party alone. I believe one person survived and told the police someone had pushed them over the edge into a river. The retired cops have pieced together clues and believe it may even be a ring of serial killers around the country. The reason I bring this …

Every place I've ever worked (and college/univ., too, for that matter) had those cliques that went out and took their smoke breaks together. It's a weird cult of sorts, in my mind. I've also noticed that, working for architectural firms, most of the "smoking circles" were the less productive employees (in the firms I've been employed by)...and they seem to have more Jerry Springer type drama in their lives. Yeah, I know, I'm a stereotyping jerk, but now having worked for a handful of architectural firms, this pattern seems to hold up. Any observations about smoking cliques?

It's one of the best I've heard.

I'm wondering if you guys do this to. There are certain cars that, with my eyes closed, I can identify simply by noises they make. List the car and describe the sounds that you can identify. Honda 4-cylinders - sound on startup Mitsubishi 4-cylinders - sound when engine revs <they have a very unique whine to them> Chrysler FWD automatics - sound when decelerating to a stop. GM 3800s - start up, engine rev GM Quad4 with low oil - has a very unique engine knock after it's been abused. Ford 302s - very unique, unrefined, start up sound Northstar V8 - unique startup sound GM 5.3 - idle... though I'm not sure that I've not mistaken a 6.0 for a 5.3

Finally got all of the parts I got from All You Can Carry Day (this past Halloween) out and lined up. Here they be: I'm two door panels and a speaker grill short of a complete taupe interior. Nice thing is that the center console has the second AUX power port which I plan to hook up. So much better than the hard to get to one next to the ash tray. I' got a newer style auto dimming mirror, the AutoStick shifter mechanism, a clock, and an OTIC or whatever we seem to call them. I'm calling them that because that's what the manual calls them but I digress. I'm kinda disappointed with the interior color. I thought taupe would be closer to tan than gray. It isn't. Yes…

Yeah, you know, the infamous GM control signal/wiper/headlamp/cruise stalk. It comes in other forms, but that's the most remembered form. Am I the only one who actually likes having a whole bunch of functions on the stalk? Let's share stories about the state of the infrastructure in the state you live. In this case I'm going to point out the state of bridges in Massachusetts (and some in NH near the border). As of 2008, there were 543 bridges that were structurally deficient "due to years of neglect" in Massachusetts. The state was forced to initiate an emergency rehabilitation and/or replacement program to get these bridges back up to code. Link Here's example of just what I have personally seen/see every day (except the bridges opening up). In Methuen they had to do major structure renovations to the the bridge which goes over 213, and had to close the whole bridge down to do it. Sever…

Holy cow has this summer kicked my ASS as far as concerts go. It all started about three months ago when I staged a "getaway" down south to catch Kid Rock in Tennesse, Atlanta, Georgia and one other southern state which name currently escapes me for some odd reason. After that it's been plenty of local shows. Jocaine (of course!) Papa Roach with/311 (left before ghey11 took the stage) and more Jocaine. Motley Crue was just a few short days ago and it was a blast. I think I may head to a few shows spontaniously (sp?) over the next few days and top it off with another JoCaine (Of course again!) show sometime early next week. Anybody else catch concer…

As a 17 year old twelfth grader, I expected better from my school administrators, I expected a better attitude from the admin when I'm being victimized. Just a look at my profile picture will give you all an idea that I didn't have an easy time about school. People are always afraid of what's different. Now I'm the victim of Sexual Harassment. And what was done about it, you may ask? Well, so far, nothing good at all. When I started going to this High School, a special Catholic high school that not only supposedly boasts an agreeable learning environment and a format of self determination, but also a no-tolerance policy on harassment. I went kayaking yesterday for a couple of hours on a calm, peaceful lake. Well, my kayak doesn't have a backrest, so to get paddling decently I hold myself in a semi-reclined position, I find it works better than sitting straight up or laying mostly reclined. The problem is that it kills the abs. In facts, here is the text I sent a couple of people last night as I was floating around the fishing access before I pulled out: One of the replies I got was from my friend Brandon: I didn't even know what to say, I have to admit it was a kinda funny thing for him to say.

After about 8 years, I resigned my position with Brenda Priddy & Co. early last week to start my own business. About 2 months ago I thought staying on part-time at BP & Co, while doing flight school, would work. More recently, however, it became apparent that the best choice for me would be going on my own. Certainly not an easy choice to make, but with the big cost of flight school, I've got to look at everything from a business standpoint now. http://www.facebook.com/ChrisDoaneAuto

The first electrical appliance turns 100 years old November 16, 2005 It came after the electric light and before radio, television, microwave ovens, blenders, juicers, computers - indeed, it was the first electrical appliance to populate the home and one of only a handful of devices in history to achieve ubiquity in advanced nations. Interestingly, although it turns 100 years old this year, it can still be found in more than 90% of American homes. As the first electrical appliance, this also means we are now celebrating 100 years of electrical appliances. Oh, and by the way, can you guess what it is? Now toast is not new, first having become common about 5,000 years…

The Truth About Cars TWAT Awards 10. Chevrolet Aveo “Chevy likes to tout the Aveo as the “lowest-priced [new] car in America” and in spite of their warning “content may vary,” it’s easy to see how they achieved that goal. From the hollow-sounding doors, bargain-basement plastics and skinny tires to the coarse-sounding engine that strains when faced with even the slightest incline, it exudes “cheap” from every ounce of its being. The Aveo also refutes the smart shopper’s mantra “you get what you pay for.” In the case of this captive Korean import, you pay little and get even less.“ 9. Ah... what wonders the woods can behold. :P The weeds have grown alot since I was around it last... so it kind of hides it. Anyways, the basics... The front clip and the front wheels are missing. The engine is there, but not completely and it's just sitting in it. The radiator is lying on the ground beside it. Inside the steering wheel is gone and the door panels (or part of them..) are lying in the back seat. The front windshield is... there, but damaged. The Underworked American 08-14-2007 | Link to Original Article @ The Boston Globe IF YOU'RE WORKING next week -- a time designed by nature for fleeing office parks and sweltering, odoriferous cities -- you could be forgiven for feeling a touch of self-pity: poor, overworked American. Read about labor trends and you'd feel even more beleaguered. In May, a report titled "No-Vacation Nation," from a Washington, D.C., think tank, rubbed our noses in the fact that we get comically brief vacations compared with Europeans. Then there was the recent Harvard Business Review article decrying the rise of the "extreme job": More and more high achievers are forced to choose between…

I agree entirely with this article. Ford and GM need to return to building the kind of cars they are good at. They will never be good at building the kind of cars that Toyota, Nissan, and Honda are good at. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/content/1...26886/index.php Harley-Davidson has been making obsolete, inefficient and technologically deficient motorcycles since the 60’s. Despite an unrelenting onslaught of technically superior Japanese product, the Harley-Davidson brand has stayed true to its roots (however inadvertently). They’ve never stopped building bikes that maintain the charm and character of old-fashioned American motorcycling. Or, put another way, Harle…

So, in the interest of spicing things up around here, I'm bringing over one of my thread ideas from MT. The premise of this is I take a review of a new model, and then give you roughly the same amount of money to either buy that car, or something else, so long as it exists in roughly the same realm. In other words, if it's a sports car in question, you can't chose a Jeep. Similarly, if it's a truck, you can't take a luxury sedan. So today we'll focus on the new Audi TTS. Car & Driver just posted up their review here- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2016-audi-tts-test-review- for those interested. Seems like a pretty sweet package, though the TT has never been …

When I talk to someone about buying American cars, the subject always falls back to "I bet the TV that you are watching in not made in America, so what's wrong with owning a Camry?" There is only one response to this "apples/oranges" retort; "If there was an American made TV, I would buy it. But our government and big business has sold out almost EVERY manufacturer to other countries, that I CANNOT BUY an American made and owned TV, even if I wanted to." As far as vehicles go (probably the second largest purchase most of us dwindling middle-class Americans will make) I can make a conscious effort to purchase a car from an American-owned company, one of the last items w…

The Year Is: 1940 The year is 1940 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike has just opened it's first section. You're going to be traveling on this section from now on and you want a car that can keep up with traffic and not be a rattle can at higher speeds. As one of the first drivers on this section of road, what would you drive? ************************************************* I'd drive a 1940 Oldsmobile convertible. No only does it have everything, it also has a Hydra-Matic transmission so I don't have to ride the clutch through all those toll booths. Boo-yah!

The money has been good though, so you decided it's time to upgrade your ride. A full sized car won't fit in your shed and a small/pony car doesn't have the trunk space for merchandise. Police in your neck of the wood have been getting steadily more powerful cars over the past few years so a fast engine is a must. The Year Is: 1978 The year is 1978 and you're at the dealership service department. The service advisor breaks the bad news to you that your last foray in to the back country has terminally wounded your Omega and there's nothing they can do. The Year Is: 1989 The year is 1989. You're a snow plow contractor and you've been noticing an uptick in the number of people with smaller lots and driveways that your full sized pickup doesn't fit in so well. You hate to turn down good business, but your current solution is lacking in traction. You decide to try a midsized or smaller SUV for these smaller jobs and see how it works out. Besides, you still have your full sized truck for big jobs so it's not like this one is going to be clearing any airport runways or anything. I've been wondering what's everyone's opinion about therapists/therapy... It's very hard for me to reveal myself to complete strangers, to appear vulnerable, but at the same time that's what makes therapy useful: someone who doesn't have an emotional connection to his/her client can 'kick butt' when needed and give you some 'candy' when you deserve a self-esteem boost. So, what are everyone's thoughts about this?

...absolutely knows his $h! when it comes to subjects relating to Cobalts and/or forced induction. He's a local and is one of the first guys to turn his '05 SS/SC into a turbocharged car. He also got another guy on the local Cobalt/Ecotec board to turn his SS/SC turbo (in the process being finished up right now). He really does know his stuff and does his own researching on all this. Well the other night I had a dream. Here, I'll quote what I posted on that other board: After posting that, he told me that he's thought many times about getting rid of his turbo and swapping in a twin setup. He's done all the research and knows exactly what he would…

eBay listing The highest bid reached just over $150,000, but the reserve wasn't met before it was pulled from the auction. "Final Objective" is a street legal 55 Chevy with a V12 1650ci Rolls Royce Merlin engine (the same type of engine used most of the P51 Mustang fighter aircraft). At 3000hp, it is in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most powerful street registered car. The car was built in Australia by Rod Hadfield of Castlemaine Rod Shop. It's been on a tour of the US, and it looks like he doesn't want to bother shipping it back to Australia.

My Dad replaced his '03 Dodge Dakota with a brand-new Inferno Red '06 Dakota today. It was an impulse buy to say the least. A water-pump had gone on his '03 earlier today, so he brought it directly to the dealer for service. Instead of coming home with a repaired '03, he came home with a new '06. The dealer practically gave the thing away (he had several months left on his original lease). It's a fully-loaded Dakota Laramie complete with the 4.7-liter V-8, leather interior, 17" Aluminum/Chrome Wheels, upgraded Infinity sound-system w/ in-dash 6-disc CD/MP3 player, SIRIUS Satelite radio, and just about every other imaginable option. It stickered for just over $…

Automotive News January 14, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Toyota's sprawling Georgetown factory in Kentucky horse country has taken over as the top-producing vehicle assembly plant in North America. For eight consecutive years, that honor went to General Motors' Oshawa car plant in Ontario. Georgetown finished on top in 1998, the year a long GM strike knocked the Canadian operation out of first place. Oshawa No. 1 and No. 2 are in the same building so are counted as a single plant. GM's Oshawa truck assembly is in a separate building and not included. In 2007, Georgetown turned out 514,382 vehicles, up 2.1 percent from 2006. Oshawa produced 470,016 units, a decline of …

These antique cars are true works of art .. Visitors to Rockefeller Center recently were intrigued, bemused or simply mystified by what looked like a bunch of old cars painted silver. But the cars constituted a major work by internationally acclaimed artist Nam June Paik called "32 cars for the 20th century: play Mozart's Requiem quietly." Actually, there were only 16 of the 32 cars in Paik's work on display at Rockefeller Center. They appeared with another major Paik work, "Transmission," an outdoor laser presentation. Organized by Public Art Fund on behalf of RCPI Landmark Properties and Tishman Speyer Properties, owners of Rockefeller Center, the exhibition expose…
