Mazda's 2019 3 compact sedan and hatchback were introduced last night at the LA Auto Show and it is clear the brand is not messing around. The latest-generation compact introduces a new platform, the Skyactiv-X compression ignition system, and the option of all-wheel drive. The 3's exterior shape sheds a lot of the sculpting and surfacing found on the current model. The end result is a smooth and premium look. Both the hatchback and sedan come with the same creased front end, prominent grille, and slim headlights. The hatchback is the more polarizing of the two with a very thick c-pillar from the Kai concept. On the inside, Mazda's designers have taken some inspiratio…

I opened and closed hundreds of doors, sat in a bunch of seats, fingered plenty of dashboards, and took a few pictures. After several hours everything seems about the same, with cars roughly being "nice", "acceptable", or "awful", and since you can't drive any of them, you're limited to styling, design, build quality, and fit-and-finish. There were only a few cars I genuinely liked or thought stood out. In no particular order... Sequoia - what an irrelevant POS; interior seems crude and unrefined, dash is right off the Tundra, the center console is like 2 feet wide; the only thing it has over the Tahoe are usable third-row seats Hyundai - what a lame brand; you can cle…

Ahead of the LA Auto Show next week, Scion released details today of their Scion iM concept. The iM is a 5-door hatchback with looks that Scion says are inspired by the European racing circuit. The concept rides on 19" forged wheels surrounding 4 piston callipers with front vented disk brakes. The suspension is height adjustable. What this means to you: The Scion iM concept is based on a car sold in the European market as the Toyota Auris. Toyota swapped out the logo for a Scion badge. Expect a direct carry-over of the tamer Toyota Auris to be sold here in the US without the body-kit and wheels shown on the concept. The Scion iM concept will debut at the LA Auto Show …

UPDATE: The rumor was true. Today at the LA Auto Show, Mazda announced that the 2.2L Skyactiv-D will be available for the U.S.-Spec CX-5. Expect it sometime in the second half of next year. To think that the vehicle that has kicked off Mazda's current design language and introduced us all to Skyactiv technologies was a crossover. But the Mazda CX-5 has proved to be a success. But how do you improve on an impressive vehicle? Mazda gave us the answer to that question last night with the introduction of the 2017 CX-5. The overall profile of the CX-5 may look the same as the outgoing model, but it is clear the design is all new. Up front are a set of sli…

The Nissan Sentra isn't what you would call an interesting compact sedan. That has been changing thanks to the introduction of the Sentra SR Turbo earlier this year. Now, Nissan hopes the Sentra NISMO introduced today can go further. The exterior looks like it is up to the task. There is a “layered double wing” body kit - lower-body bits to the front, rear, and side - rear spoiler, updated rear bumper, red accents, and 18-inch wheels finished in gray. Four colors are available for the NISMO - Brilliant Silver, Super Black, Aspen White, or Gun Metallic. Inside, the front seats get extra bolstering, a sport steering wheel with Alcantara and leather trim; red accents, an…

BMW never offered a convertible version of the 8-Series during the nineties, but the automaker is looking to rectify that with the new model. Later this month, BMW will be rolling out the 2019 8-Series convertible at the L.A. Auto Show. Until then, BMW has decided to spill the beans on it. The 8-Series convertible sports a soft-top that can be raised or lowered in only 15 seconds at speeds of up to 30 mph. A standard wind deflector snaps in behind the rear seats to help reduce the wind in your hair. For those who are crazy enough to drop the top in cold weather, optional neck warmers that are integrated into front headrests will keep you toasty. At launch, BMW wil…

It is not as big as it looks, it is front wheel drive, the front end is polarizing, but Hyundai just might show the world that persistence pays off. This is their third try at a full-size 3-row SUV, but this might be the one that makes it stick. When I first saw the pictures of the Palisade, I thought it might be as big as a Nissan Armada but in person is a different story. In real terms it is smaller inside than a Honda Pilot or Chevy Traverse. Materials inside feel high quality and the design is attractive. If Hyundai used another vehicle for a template of the interior, the Buick Enclave is probably it. The exterior is much edgier. With big SUV looks and e…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 18, 2013 The MINI has always been a vehicle of small stature. But since the introduction of the new MINI Cooper in 2002, it has been steadily growing in size. Now with the introduction of the new third-generation model today, we might have to change the name from MINI to MACRO. Here's what I mean. Compared to the current MINI Cooper, the 2014 MINI Cooper is 4.5 inches longer, 1.3 inches wider, and rides on a 1.1 inch longer wheelbase. Its also hard to tell the difference between the design-wise. To tell the differences, you have to get up close to begin to pick out the differences. Little clues such as a larger…

Next up in the subcompact crossover fest at the LA Auto Show is the 2016 Honda HR-V. Now we've seen different variations of this new model since it was introduced in Japan last year. Now we get the specs for the North American version. While the HR-V is based on the new Fit, the styling is heavily influenced by the larger CR-V with similar front ends and roof shape. But the HR-V has its own unique design touches such as the rear door handles integrated in the rear pillar. The HR-V has an overall length for the new model is 169.1 inches, about 10 inches shorter than the CR-V. But on wheelbases, the two models are very close. The HR-V rides on a 102.8-inch wheelbase, just …

LA AUTO SHOW: Volkswagen Tiguan Concept Los Angeles marks the eagerly-awaited debut of the new Volkswagen Tiguan in "concept" form. From the looks of things, if you scratch the orange-trimmed tires and the similarly-patterned leather seats, you're basically seeing what the car's going to look like when the wraps are pulled off the production version in Q1 2007. Far more conventional than the rakish Concept A that introduced some of the car's exterior (the front end) and interior design language, the Tiguan still looks to be a nice entry-ute for VW. The "baby Touareg" flavor works. Full Article/Images/Press Release

Well, the show got off to a pretty interesting start. Rick Wagoner's MPG keynote was remarkable for two reasons. First, he did a great job crystalizing GM's efforts on the alternative fuel and fuel consumption fronts. No one in attendance should now doubt that GM is - or will soon be - a leader in this area. It was ironic, then, that the other most interesting aspect of his speech was a demonstration by environmentalists while he was still up on the stage. The demonstrators at first seemed to disenginuously try to present themselves as representatives of the automaker. They stated Mr. Wagoner would be making an important announcement today - a pledge to make GM the…

Toyota has been on a quest to shed its ho-hum image for the past few years. We found their efforts to be somewhat mixed in terms of the design and powertrains, but applaud them for trying. Their latest attempt is the 2020 Corolla sedan which debuted last night before heading off to the LA Auto Show in a couple of weeks. The basic shape of the Corolla isn't that much different from the outgoing model with slab sides and similar profile. The front and rear end varies on the trim. L, LE, and XLE feature a more conservative look with a larger lower grille for the front and clean styling for the rear. SE and XSE models get front end styling similar to the Kia Forte with a …

by Drew Dowdell Porsche unveiled its fifth model line, the Macan, today at the LA Auto Show. Available in two models, the Macan is Porsche's attempt to create a sports car in the compact crossover segment. Porsche sees a growing market for Hi-Po grocery-getters. The Macan S is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 340 horsepower and can accelerate the car to 60 mph in 5 seconds flat. If that doesn't get your groceries home fast enough, you can opt for the Macan Turbo which packs a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 pumping out 400 horsepower and enabling a 4.4 second sprint to 60. Both models feed the power to Porsche's 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and then out to all …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 20, 2013 The Hyundai Elantra has been on sale for the past three with not many changes to it. The model has done ok in the sales charts, but it's beginning to look somewhat stale with fresh models coming in. Hyundai decided it was time for a refresh of the Elantra. The result of the refresh was shown at the LA Auto Show today. Most of the changes for the 2014 Elantra focus on the sedan. Starting off on the exterior, Hyundai gave the Elantra sedan new front and rear fascias, projector headlights with LED accent lighting, and wrap-around taillights. Auto Show, they introduced both the new Mazda6 and refreshed CX-9 (New front end and some interior tweaks) to North America. The 2.5L SKYACTIV-G produces 184 HP and 185 lb-ft of torque going through only a six-speed automatic. Fuel economy is rated at 25 City/32 Highway for the FWD model and 24 City/30 Highway…

Bentley is using the LA Auto Show to gauge the reaction of their latest concept car, the Grand Convertible. "It has been long time coming" could be Alfa Romeo's slogan for the U.S. considering how long it has taken the brand to make a return here. But it is also an apt description for their first SUV, the 2018 Stelvio which debuted today at the LA Auto Show. Design-wise, the Stelvio is a taller, more practical version of the Giulia sedan. From the narrow headlights and triangular grille up front, to the sculpted lines along the side, Alfa is making sure the DNA of the Giulia is extended to other models. The interior is the same as Giulia with a similar design for the dash, a 6.5-inch touchscreen (an 8.8-inch screen comes standard on higher trims), and leather seats. Let…

By now, you would think that we wouldn't be surprised when Kia rolls out a very stylish vehicle. You would be wrong as jaws dropped when Kia unveiled the 2017 Sportage at the LA Auto Show yesterday. Now Kia has shown off the Sportage at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in September. But if you missed or forgot about it, here is what you need to know. The Sportage's exterior is all new from the ground up with a more aggressive look. The front boast's Kia's most polarizing take on the Tiger nose with an upright design. Quad-beam foglights and new headlights finish the front. Size-wise, the 2017 Sportage is about 1.6 inches longer and rides on a wheelbase that is 1.2 inches…

The RAV-4 Prime is capable of driving up to 39 miles in EV mode, making it the highest range PHEV SUV on the market. Kia rolled out an updated 2019 Sorento today at the LA Auto Show. The exterior features revised fascias front and rear, new grille, LED headlights on higher trims, updated taillights, and new wheel choices. Move inside to see all trims get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with three-row seating. The big change of note deals with the Sorento's Engine lineup. The turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder that was launched with this current-generation Sorento has been dropped. As we found in our review back in 2016, the turbo engine had a fair amount of lag and fuel economy was worse than the V6 engine. The 2.4L four-cylinder and 3.3L V6 …

Mitsubishi is updating the Mirage economy hatchback for 2017. It gets a refreshed exterior along with some interior and technology updates. Likely the most important change to buyers will be the addition of Android Auto and Apple Car play in the infotainment system. With the addition of these two technologies, buyers have an inexpensive way to add features like Navigation and Apps to their car, features that are not often found in vehicles at the Mirage's low price point. The exterior changes are light with an updated front end and rear bumper. The 3-cylinder engine remains the only power plant, but with a slight bump in power to 78 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torq…

And now for something futuristic. Chevrolet has revealed the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Tursimo (VGT) concept at the LA Auto Show today. Let's begin with the looks of the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Tursimo concept. It looks like a futuristic F1 or IndyCar with a massive front splitter and fenders covering the wheels. There is a reason for the design. Chevrolet explains that the driver driver lays prone with legs and arms aimed toward the wheels. “Think of it as adapting a wing suit to a racing car, where the driver’s movements control certain aspects of the aero package. In many ways, the Chaparral 2X VGT is like racing wing suit, with a protective fuselage for ‘flying’ ver…

Hyundai has rolled out the sixth-generation Elantra at the LA Auto Show today and while it might not look different on the outside, the inside and under the skin hold some massive changes. One of those changes is air curtains in the front to reduce wind resistance. Up front is a new hexagonal grille seen on the company's crossovers and new HID headlights with LED daytime running lights. Honda creatively hid most of the Passport in a dust plume for one photo and zoomed out the vehicle in another. That said, we can make out that the Passport will share a number of design cues with the larger Pilot. The automaker touts the model will be built at their Lincoln, Alabama plant - home to the Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline. This likely means the Passport will be sharing the platform underpinning the Pilot and Ridgeline. With Scion currently enjoying itself in the great parking lot in the sky, Toyota has been folding a number of their products into their lineup. Case in point is the all new 2018 C-HR - a vehicle that debuted last year as a concept for Scion. The C-HR (Coupe – High Rider) looks like Toyota's designers took a Nissan Juke and did a bit of plastic surgery to it. The end result is something quite stunning (at least to your author). The sharp looking front end with a narrow grille and headlights is paired with flared out fenders and the low-slung roofline. In other markets, the C-HR is available with a 1.2L turbocharged four-cylinder and a hybrid powertrain. The U.S. w…

But Volkswagen has given the concept a fresh coat of paint and outfitted it to be a support vehicle for VW's I.D. R Pikes Peak electric race car. The cargo variant of the Buzz is about four inches longer in overall length when compared to the standard Buzz, allowing for more space to store stuff. After months of speculation, the wait is over. This morning, Ford announced the new 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang. Lets begin with the most important part of any Shelby, the engine. Under the hood is a 5.2L V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft producing over 500 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. What's the big deal with a flat-plane crankshaft V8 you may ask? Well a flat-plane crankshaft V8 can produce more power and rev higher than a standard V8. This is due to how the flat-plane crankshaft V8 is setup. The connecting rods of the pistons lie 180 degrees from each other, not the standard 90 degrees seen on most V8 engines. This power will flow to the rear-wheels via a six…

Toyota Calty RLV By the Manufacturer Designer: Kevin J. Chun As population in Los Angeles increases and more vehicles appear on the road, traffic conditions in the LA area continues to worsen. This traffic problem is the main focus and reasoning behind Toyota's RLV (Renewable Lifestyle Vehicle) concept for 2015. The RLV is a lightweight, aluminum bodied, two-seat tandem vehicle that features an innovative collapsible track system and a split powertrain. Most 'Angelenos' agree that only two speeds exist in LA: 5 and 75mph. Also, rush hour and no rush hour, traffic and no traffic. Thus, 'tortoise and hare'...slow and fast. The Toyota RLV identifies this 'tortoise and …

Toyota has been doing their best to make the Camry and Avalon a bit more exciting to help shed their plain image. Their latest attempt involves Toyota Racing Development (TRD) to work their magic on these two sedans. The end result is the Camry and Avalon TRD which will be showing up at the LA Auto Show in a couple of weeks. The changes begin under the skin as TRD fits new shock absorbers and springs that drops both models by 0.6-inches; thicker underbody braces, and larger brakes. Camry TRD models get thicker sway bars to improve overall handling, The Avalon TRD does without the sway bars as Toyota believes buyers of this model still want a little bit of comfort. …

When Dodge unveiled the refreshed 2015 Charger at the New York Auto Show, everyone knew that a refresh for the 300 wouldn't be that far behind. Sure enough, Chrysler pulled the covers off the 2015 300 at the LA Auto Show today. The 2015 300 hasn't quite gone though the massive exterior refresh like the Charger, but Chrysler designers made sure changes were made to heighten its attitude. The front grille has been enlarged slightly and features different finishes dependent on the trim. New lights for the front and back, updated rear bumper styling, and rectangular exhaust outlets finish off the exterior. Wheel choices range from standard 17-inches all the way to 20-inches.…

Now the Denali trim will only be available on the Canyon crew cab and come with the choice of either the 3.6L V6 or 2.8L Duramax Diesel. The Canyon Denali will go on sale late next year. The rollout of the next-generation Civic continues with the reveal of the 2016 Civic Coupe at the LA Auto Show today. The production Civic coupe carries a lot of the design that we first saw on the concept shown at New York back in April. From a large chrome bar that flows into the headlights on the front end, to a sloping roofline and sculpting running along the doors, its clear that Honda wants to make Civic coupe standout. One nice touch we like the is how the rear taillight runs along the trunk to the quarter panels. Compared to the sedan, the Civic coupe is about 5.5 inches shorter in overall length and a slightly lower roof. The Civic Coupe's interior is sim…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 27, 2012 Today at the L.A. Auto Show, Fiat is showing a trio of new 500 models coming soon. The three are the 500e, 500C Abarth, and the new 500L. We'll start with the 500e. Fiat released a teaser picture and some information last week and now we have some more information on the electric model. The 500e drops the 1.4L inline-four for a electric motor that produces 111 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque. A 24-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack is located in the car’s floor and gives the 500e a estimated range of 85 miles. Charging a fully depleted battery takes around 24 hours on 120V charger or under 4 hour…

Consider this: 23 percent of all Ford vehicles sold in the U.S. is a utility vehicle. By 2020, the blue oval expects that number to climb to 29 percent. For Ford, crossovers and SUVs are a big deal. Case in point is the 2016 Explorer. While this updated model is drastically changing how the company is planning to build crossovers in the future, it does keep the Explorer in the hunt for buyers. The biggest change for the Explorer is the introduction of the 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder, which will take the place of the 2.0L EcoBoost. The 2.3 makes 270 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the 2.0 EcoBoost, the 2.3 can be had with either front or all-wheel drive. T…

LA 2007: 2007 Nissan Sentra SE-R/Spec V When Nissan first launched the Sentra SE-R in 1991, it helped establish the concept of a “sport compact” car. With a high performance 4-cylinder engine stuffed into a compact body, the original SE-R offered sports car-like performance for buyers on a budget. Enthusiasts and the media recognized this unique combination of performance and value and the Sentra SE-R became an instant hit – and has maintained a loyal following through two successive generations of SE-R. The latest incarnation of the SE-R joins the Nissan lineup in March 2007 with two exciting versions, the Sentra SE-R and the higher horsepower Sentra SE-R Spec V. …

Last week, we reported on a CARB document providing some details about the upcoming Subaru Crosstrek Plug-In Hybrid. The document said the model would return "an electric range at 25.650 miles based on the Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule - replicates city driving conditions." This is similar to the Toyota Prius Prime which lends its hybrid system to the Crosstrek. But we found ourselves a bit skeptical considering the Crosstrek is heavier and uses an all-wheel drive system - things that reduce range. Hopefully, Subaru would provide some details on it when it arrived at the LA Auto Show next week. But Subaru has decided to surprise us by unveiling the Crosstr…

Volkswagen Nanospyder By the Manufacturer Designers: Patrick Faulwetter, Daniel Simon and Ian Hunter In the year 2015 the Department of Transportation mandated that vehicles are to be 100% recyclable. In addition, to keep up with the latest safety standards, the vehicles will have a lifespan of 5 years. We envision that Volkswagen would respond to this mandate by initiating a company-wide change in the manufacturing processes by adopting and adapting the latest advances in nano-technology to eventually create a vehicle that would not only meet the requirements, but exceed all expectations. The Volkswagen Nanospyder would be the cutting edge of recyclability. It woul…

Today at the L.A. Auto Show, the new Cayman arrived. If you wanted to describe the design of the new Cayman to someone, just say its like a Boxster with a roof. Much like the Boxster, the Cayman uses a 2.7L flat-six producing 275 HP, while the Cayman S uses a 3.5L flat-six producing 325 HP. The run up 60 MPH takes 5.1 seconds* with the 2.7 and 4.4 seconds* with the 3.5. A six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK are your transmission choices. (*Note: 0-60 times are based on Cayman models …

The Nissan Juke was an interesting beast. The looks were not for everyone, but it was a fun vehicle to drive around. It was also one of the first subcompact crossovers. The time has come replace Juke and the vehicle Nissan has chosen is the Kicks sold in South America. Compared to Juke, the Kicks is somewhat normal looking. Nissan's V-Motion grille sits up front, along with some flared out fenders. A blacked-out C-Pillar gives the illusion of a floating roof. 16-inch steel wheels come on the base model, while 17-inch alloy wheels come on higher trims. The interior is traditional in terms of the design but looks to be slightly upmarket with a stitched dash. All models …

Being a two person outfit is somewhat difficult when covering an auto show. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 21, 2013 Alongside the new GT-R NISMO, Nissan's performance arm had a couple more surprises up its sleeve at LA Auto Show. First up was a more powerful Juke NISMO called the NISMO RS. The Juke NISMO RS takes the standard Juke's turbocharged and direct-injected 1.6L four-cylinder and boosts it to produce 215 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque (211 horsepower and 184 pound-feet when equipped with all-wheel drive and the CVT). At the 2017 Los Angeles Auto show today, Lexus unveiled a three-row version of their popular RX luxury crossover. The RX has been one of the best selling luxury vehicles since its introduction in 1997. To make the 6 and 7 passenger three-row version, Lexus stretched the vehicle 4.3 inches and used a steeper rear glass to improve headroom. Overall, the key look remains largely the same with the partially blacked out C-pillar, a now widespread industry styling trend, being the main visual distinction for the 3-row models. Powertrain hardware is largely unchanged for the L models, available in the standard V6 front-wheel drive, V6 all-wheel drive, and V6 Hybrid all…

So far this year, Mercedes has introduced us to the new E-Class sedan, the AMG-lite E43, E-Class wagon, and E-Class All-Terrain. All we need to complete this year is the full-blown AMG model. Mercedes has obliged us by releasing the details on the 2018 E63 that will be debuting next month at Los Angeles Auto Show. The Mercedes-Benz CLS is patient zero when it comes to the four-door coupe design. The first-generation model was a stunner and stood out from the other Plain Jane Mercedes models at the time. The second-generation model lost some of that distinctiveness but was still something a bit different from other sedans in Mercedes' lineup. Today at the LA Auto Show, Mercedes introduced the third-generation CLS. As we noted yesterday when pictures of the 2019 CLS leaked out, the new model is a bit stale in terms of the design. Mercedes says this is the evolution of their “sensual purity” design philosophy which appears to mean the various creases and bold lines are removed. Th…

California, a place known for its abundance of sunshine was the place that Lexus showed off a drop-top concept. The LF-C2 serves as a preview for design cues to come on future Lexus products. Acura sent out a teaser shot of the refreshed and soon to be revealed 2016 Acura ILX sedan. Infiniti describes the 2019 QX50 crossover as their 'most compelling' model to date. Quite the expectation for their new compact crossover that will be debuting in a few days time at the LA Auto Show. But if you look past the design that appears to be inspired by the QX60 crossover (and makes it look somewhat boring), Infiniti may have a good reason for saying this. The QX50 will be the first Infiniti model to debut their new VC-Turbo four-cylinder. This engine is unique as it can adjust compression from 8:1 to 14:1 by modifying the length of the piston stroke. The benefits to this are improved efficiency and diesel-like torque. Figures for the engine stand at 268 hor…

November 28th, 2012 Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com At the 2013 LA Auto Show today, Toyota revealed their all new 2013 RAV-4 mid-size crossover. With a focus on fuel efficiency, the RAV-4 sports a host of power train changes. The first and largest difference is the the lack of an available V6. The 4-speed auto of the previous car is now upgraded to a 6-speed automatic feeding power to the front or all wheels. A short first and second gear allow for enthusiastic around town driving while fifth and sixth gears are both overdrive for …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 11, 2013 When Subaru showed off the WRX Concept at the New York Auto Show in April, it was very much well received not only by the press, but by everyone. It could be a good omen for Subaru as they have announced the production version of WRX will debut at the LA Auto Show next week. The company released a teaser shot which gives some idea of what the production model will look like. From what we can tell, the overall shape of the production model has been toned down a bit. But there are key items from the concept that remain such as a large grille opening and the hood scoop. We're expecting the WRX recipe to s…

Audi is continuing its march forward with electric vehicles by previewing the next model in its upcoming e-tron lineup, the e-tron GT concept. This will become a production model in late 2020, following in the footsteps of e-tron SUV and sportback. That's quite the quick turnaround and a lot of that is due to the e-tron GT has the same underpinnings as the upcoming Porsche Taycan. The spec sheet mentions a 96-kwh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor for each axle. But the way the electric powertrain is tuned for each vehicle is different. Audi Sport is handling the development and says the e-tron GT will produce a total output of 590 horsepower. This will al…

Subaru's first attempt at a three-row crossover, the B9 Tribeca wasn't a great success due to its awkward styling along with other issues. But Subaru is giving it another chance with the introduction of the Ascent crossover on the eve of the LA Auto Show. It seems our guess on the Ascent being a bigger Forester in terms of the design was right on the money - the Ascent is about 15 inches longer. It features the same boxy profile and large glass area as the smaller Forester. Front end styling borrows heavily from the Outback with a large hexagonal grille and headlights. The Ascent's interior can seat up to eight people thanks to a standard second-row bench seat. Hi…

Subaru sent out a teaser picture of the Subaru Impreza Sedan concept due to be shown at the LA Auto Show next week. From the B-pillar forward, expect the concept to be identical to the Impreza 5-Door Concept shown at the Tokyo Motor Show last month. LA Preview: Mazda Nagare Concept HIROSHIMA, Japan – Mazda Motor Corporation today announced the global reveal of an all-new concept car, Nagare (pronounced na-gah-reh), at the Greater Los Angeles International Auto Show, during a press conference at 4:05 PM on November 29, 2006. Following on the heels of three very successful and exploratory Mazda design concepts – Kabura, Sassou and Senku – from last year’s show season, Nagare is the first indication of Mazda’s future design direction. According to Mazda’s newly appointed global design director, Laurens van den Acker, Nagare sums up the future of Mazda design in one deceptively simple word -Flow. “Nagare is a celebr…

Let's be honest for a moment. The current Volkswagen Passat is about as interesting a looking a white wall. But we have to admit Volkswagen has been able to give Passat some style with the introduction of the Passat GT concept. The exterior features a number of cues that you would find on the GTI such a honeycomb grille with a red outline, LED headlights, smoked taillights, and bumper treatments. The roof, mirror caps, and spoiler are blacked out. The interior features carbon fiber trim, black and gray sport seats, and a center console finished in piano black. Power comes from a 3.6L VR6 engine with 280 horsepower paired with a six-speed DSG transmission. A new e…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 26, 2012 After months of speculation, questions, and wild guesses, Ford has unveiled the new Fiesta ST before its offical showing at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show this week. Much like the Focus ST, the Fiesta ST will only come in a five-door hatch (sorry, no three-door model for the states). The Fiesta ST makes its presence known to everyone thanks to sportier front fascia with a lower chin spoiler, blacked-out mesh grille, exclusive 17-inch wheels, rear diffuser and dual exhaust outlets, and an available Molten Orange exterior paint color. A bit surprising is how much power is under the hood of the Fiesta ST. Ford o…

November 28th, 2012 Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com Today in Los Angeles, the LA Auto Show starts the winter Auto Show season. The theme of this show seems to be "Smaller and more efficient". Ford: Ford is releasing two new engines for the Fiesta. The first is a Fiesta with a fuel efficient 3-cylinder Ecoboost that Ford claims will be the most fuel efficient gasoline car available. At the other end of the spectrum, Ford is releasing a pocket rocket version of the Fiesta called the ST equipped with a 1.6 liter Ecoboost with 197 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque. Going up in size, but maintaining the fuel efficiency theme, Ford is also introducing th…

At the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show today Mazda fully unveiled the re-engineered Mazda 6 sedan. Visually, the Mazda 6 is quite familiar to the current model, but Mazda was hard at work under the skin. The biggest news of course is the addition of the 2.5 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine sourced originally from the Mazda CX-9. This engine, new to the 6, produces 310 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm and 250 horsepower when running 93 Octane fuel. Horsepower is reduced to 227 on regular. The base naturally aspirated 2.5 liter 4-cylinder has cylinder deactivation where the two outside cylinders shut down when the vehicle is operated at a steady speed between 25 …

Have you wanted a Range Rover Evoque, but wished that it didn't have that pesky roof? Land Rover has the vehicle for you. Last night, the British automaker revealed the 2016 Range Rover Evoque Convertible. The Evoque Convertible looks for the most part like the Coupe aside from the fabric roof. This roof maintains the profile of the Evoque when it is up. Folding the roof only takes about 18 seconds thanks to a power mechanism, and you can do it at speeds up to 30 MPH. The top is designed to fold into a certain way that the front part looks like a tonneau cover when stowed away. The Evoque Convertible is also one the first vehicles in the Land Rover lineup to debut…
