  1. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 4, 2012 "In recent weeks, you have seen that we do not hesitate to act when change is required to make the business stronger." Those words coming out of General Motors CEO Dan Akerson during a conference call with reporters this week. Akerson was referencing the recent outings of Global Marketing Chief Joel Ewanick and Dave Lyon, who was to become VP of design at GM Europe. Akerson went on to say, "from time to time, it will mean parting company with people who are not delivering expected results, or alternatively, who don't meet the highest standards for accountability or integrity." GM: We Still Have Too Many Pickups William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 27, 2011 GM still has a problem of too many pickups. Supplies of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra have been going down from a high of 122 days in June to 108 days in August by idling plants over the summer. However this isn't enough as GM wants a 90 day supply of trucks by the end of the year. To help reach that goal, GM will be idling their Fort Wayne, Ind for a week in November. “We make adjustments at our plants based on demand, whether it means adding overtime or in this case taking a down week,” said GM spokesman Chris Lee. Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner has taken his fair share of criticism this year. Some in the business media have called for him to step down. 9. By TOM KRISHER (AP) – 1 hour ago DETROIT — Behind GM's hesitation to sell its unprofitable car business in Europe lies a Cold War fear: American technology will fall into Russian hands. It's among the main reasons why General Motors Co. has balked at finishing a deal to sell its Opel unit to a group led by Canadian auto parts maker Magna International Inc. and Russia's state-owned Sberbank. GM announced the tentative deal with Magna in May at a time when it was desperately trying to avoid bankruptcy protection. But now, after exiting Chapter 11 in better financial shape and encouraged by signs of better sales, the Detroit-based automaker is second-guessing the dea…

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The General Motors Corp. Spring Hill manufacturing plant will survive if the company makes good on its promise to employees to bring in a new product line -- one that likely won't be a Saturn, analysts said. GM announced earlier this week that it will cut 30,000 jobs and close nine assembly, stamping and powertrain plants and three parts facilities. The line in Spring Hill producing the Saturn Ion compact car will shut down in 2006, a move that could eliminate 1,500 jobs. But GM officials have promised union leaders and plant workers that Spring Hill will be part of the company's future plans as it reworks and retools in an effort to cut …
