I went to Chevy's revitup event in Irvine, CA today and went through quite a few cars... 2008 Malibu LTZ - I couldn't drive it as it was a pre-production model. That meant the trunklid didn't fit properly and some of the interior trim pieces were kinda falling apart. But I took that into consideration and tried to form an overall impression anyway. Styling - I love it... I think it's one of the best-looking family sedans out there. It's very Germanic in appearance, a lot like the VW Phaeton/Bentley Flying Spur, and the details are amazing. The front grille is wonderful, the one-piece chrome window trim is impressive, the hood cutline is interesting, the paint looks lu…

Suburban Longterm Update(autoweek) The best part is if you scroll down to the update on the Lexus ls 460 Lexus LS 460L The door panels are starting to creak while accelerating or braking; we thought Lexusβ flagship would stay tighter longer than 13,000 miles. Has anybody here done a thoughtful head to head look between the PT and the HHR? Or has it been discussed in the past somewhere? Also, out of curiousity, what are the key selling points of the HHR Vs. PT? (Maybe CARBIZ could share some of his sales stories if he reads this.) In my mind the largest advantadge to the HHR is that the Ecotech is that much more "Advanced" than the Chryselr mill. Does anybody know if Chrysler plans to discontinue the PT anytime soon? Seems like it is still a cash cow for them. Chris

Chances of a Mid-Engined C7 Corvette? Link to Original Article @ Winding Road This issue of Winding Road showcases a discussion with some analysts and experts about the direction the next Corvette is going to take and while its all but certain that the C7 will be a front-engine rear-wheel drive car as it has been for over a half century, the possibility is entertained that a mid-engined 'Vette could be sold alongside a tradtional one. Click here for the article in its entirety. Quick notes: Final designs have been submitted to Ed Wellburn from design teams this June. C7 (GMX711) will debut in 2011, coinciding with Chevrolet's centennial. One possibility is for a mid-…

GM sees future for Moraine plant Link to Original Article @ Yahoo! | Tuesday June 26, 3:09 pm ET The mid-size sports utility vehicles made at the General Motors Corp. Moraine assembly plant continue to be a strong piece of the GM sales, a GM regional leader said Tuesday. Steve Hill, general manager of GM's North Central region, said the vehicles -- particularly the Trailblazer and Envoy -- are part of the automaker's portfolio for the foreseeable future. Hill, who focuses on sales and marketing, was in Mason at Kings Island Resort to talk with about 200 local GM dealers. "Mid-size utilities have been a home run in the marketplace," Hill said. As an alternative, rebates of up to $7,000 are available on some models. "It's great," said one Chevrolet dealer who has more than 20 2006 vehicles in stock. "I'm as happy as a lark, but wh…

Throwing Gears in a 505-hp Z06-Powered Chevy Camaro By Joe Oldham, Contributor Link to Original Article @ Edmunds This 1999 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro is no ordinary used car. It's a freaking street monster; a snarling, mean mother of a street racer that will chew you up and spit you out if you have the temerity to challenge it at a stoplight. It's powered by a GM Performance Parts (GMPP) LS7 crate motor packing 505 (or more) horsepower, the same engine you'll find under the hood of a Z06 Corvette. In fact, GM Performance Parts built this car because it wants the world to know that the all-aluminum small-block V8 is for sale at any GM dealer's parts counter (or even online)…

Jeff Mann's '57 Chevy runs a blown Hemi under its hood, and lots of unexpected details We've entered the era of the Stepford Chevys. Once upon a time, 1957 Chevys were nasty street racers driven by the socially maladjusted and feared by the decent citizenry. But those days are long gone. Today '57 Chevys are driven to the nostalgia diner by grandfathers in "Foose Design" T-shirts. You've seen the guy's ride. It's the monochrome red 1957 Chevy Bel Air with the 502 big-block crate engine parked next to five others just like it over by the D.A.R.E. car. Jeff Mann's '57 Chevy is a heretic in this Church Of Conventional Wisdom β Chevy Synod. There's not a single GM compon…

LaNeve to Campbell-Ewald: Fix Chevy's Ads Auto News: GM Marketing Chief Applies Pressure as Sales Slip By Jamie LaReau Link to Original Article @ AdAge DETROIT (AdAge.com) -- General Motors Corp. marketing chief Mark LaNeve is sending a blunt message to Chevrolet's long-standing ad agency, Campbell-Ewald: Fix Chevy's car ads. In an interview with Automotive News, Mr. LaNeve said he wants to push Chevrolet cars as a "smart choice" offering a better price than its Asian rivals -- and comparable quality, too. GM Awards Advanced Development Battery Contracts For Chevrolet Volt E-Flex System Contracts Mark Important Step in Developing Range-Extender and Fuel Cell E-Flex Variants WILMINGTON, Del. β General Motors has awarded two contracts for advanced development of lithium-ion batteries for its electric drive "E-Flex System," it was announced today at GM's annual shareholder meeting. Behind the Wheel of the Bumblebee 2009 Camaro We knew what we had to do. Get the first photo ever of a 2009 Camaro doing a burnout β or at least a car that's a dead ringer for the 2009 Camaro doing a burnout. So there we were last July near the set of Transformers, cruising along the roads surrounding an old aircraft hangar in Playa Vista, California. We were driving "Bumblebee," the Camaro that's the star of this summer's sure-to-be-blockbuster, looking for the perfect place to blaze the hides off its rear tires. It's amazing that we even got permission. "A burnout?" one Paramount Pictures publicity person asked us. "What's that?" Driving a Transformer After lot…

Finally, a Chevy crossover GM rushes to fill the void in the brand's lineup Sharon Terlep | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News Artist Conception by MJDecker DETROIT -- General Motors Corp. is winning over critics and customers with its trio of new large crossover vehicles for its GMC, Saturn and Buick brands. But when the automaker started developing a crossover strategy several years ago, it left out its top-selling Chevrolet brand, which had the well-established TrailBlazer SUV. But as the market shifted dramatically away from traditional SUVs, TrailBlazer sales cratered and Chevy was left without a crossover, which has become one of the hottest vehicle se…

We rented an '07 Cobalt Coupe in Denver last weekend. Overall, it was a solid little car, and even after lots of flogging up and down mountainous roads, we averaged over 30 mpg...EXCELLENT! If there were any detractors, it would be the hard interior plastics and the wheezy-whiny mechanical noises from the engine. Of course, we're accustomed to driving cars in a different class - in our garage is a new Subaru Legacy and new Honda Civic. Also, for comparison notes, I recently rented an '07 PT Cruiser (handled almost a good as my Civic!!) and an '07 Jetta (supple, fast, but with weird engine noises). My final take: the Cobalt is an attractive, easy driver.

General Motors to build new Chevy crossover in Tennessee, not Michigan Sharon Terlep | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News Artist Conception by Northstar General Motors Corp. won't add a third shift to its Delta Township plant near Lansing, where the automaker builds a new trio of seven- and eight-passenger crossover sport utility vehicles. GM had been considering adding work at the Delta plant when it adds a fourth crossover to its lineup for the Chevrolet brand. Instead, the factory in Spring Hill, Tenn. will build the Chevy, expected sometime in the 2009 model year. A GM spokesperson said it's not yet clear how many jobs the decision could affect.

I was driving home today from Des Moines to go to some high school graduations and stopped in Stuart to get something to eat. Link to Autoblog Perhaps Chevrolet should see if Ford is done with the "Bold Moves" slogan yet, because some Chevy dealers have grown a pair and are trying a radical move. They're bringing enemy No. 1 right into their showrooms. Chevrolet is confident enough in its forthcoming Malibu redesign, that they're willing to have customers paw all over their mid-size offering and Toyota's Camry side by side. Instead of just telling potential Malibu customers that Camry ain't all that, Chevy's car marketing director, Cheryl Catton, suggests dealers put one of the best-selling Toyotas right there next to Malibus. Production of the new Malibus begins in October, and GM's ad push f…

I would ask this in the Camaro thread but I had visions of being crucified upside down, naked on my front lawn with a yellow Caddy or a 59 Buick quietly driving away behind me. I really don't care if it has a B-pillar. The 69 Mach 1, (MY opinion best looking Muscle car along with 70 Boss 302) did not have roll down rear windows and as such kind of had a permanant B-pillar. Also, my 66 Mustang was a fastback which when you think about it kind of makes it a HUGE B pillar (or Huge C-pillar if you prefer.) I do care about... When is this car coming out? Do we know? What V-6 will it have? Will the V-6 be available with a 5 speed? What H.P. are we talking about w…

It was just anounced that Roush for the first time will start to offer some aftermarket parts like tuners for GM truck. Can we see this as a look into the future? I posted a statment from someone a while ago from GM that There was a chance of a Roush Camaro. Either way We sell Roush products at work and they have some real quality items, not inexpensive but great quality. I see Roush products only being a big plus for Chevy and GM owners and I hope this leads to bigger and better things. Roush has always done a lot of work for GM but kept it quite. In the last year that has changed and we are seeing his company doing this for GM and not hiding it like the GX…

My mother once rented one, and backed it into who knows what, and the corner of the rear bumper dimpled in completely. Absolute concave. This is a thing I'm used to seeing on about 40% of 97-01 Camrys. It makes your car look and feel really cheap and tinny. What would prompt a carmaker to not fill in the entire bumper end to end to fix the problem? I saw a lesser model yesterday with the similar problem, and I fear the upcoming day my parents' brand new LTZ suffers that silliness.

Making my daily rounds to every GM site I noticed that Chevy has something new and well pretty cool if you ask me called Chevy Nation. It is a computer generated town with new and old Chevy's cruising around like '64 Impala's to a new HHR. Listen to songs with Chevy in them, look at lyrics and download posters and much more. I spent a good hour exploring the first part of that is launched and was so impressed. I currently own a 2003 Avalanche. Prior to my purchase of this truck, I was very anti-SUV. I only purchased the truck out of necessity for the management and maintenance of my apartment business. I do have my gripes, but lets talk about the new one. The Good The interior upgrade is phenomenal, but anyone with eyes and working fingers can tell that. I never gave much thought to the interior of my '03 because I've always considered it a "work" truck...even though it's a loaded Z71. The switchgear in this tr…

A Focus group is being formed and they will meet in May. 12 people were picked from a enthusiast web site and will help with feedback on option packages and other items on the new car. I have someone I know that is one of the 12 and is a great informed Camaro fan. So this group is not a lot of people that really have no clue so you can rest easy that the fee back will be from pople that really car and understand. It would have been fun to have …

GM @ NYIAS 2008 Chevrolet HHR Panel Wraps NEW YORK β What better way to illustrate the uses for the new Chevrolet HHR Panel than with the vehicles themselves? Chevy is doing exactly that at the New York Auto Show with two eye-popping wraps β one for business, the other for pleasure. A delivery vehicle that looks like a bouquet on wheels shows how the HHR Panel can deliver the goods without draining the gas tank. A personal-use Panel, βSkull From Hell,β was designed by student Jim McCammon of Detroit βs Center for Creative Studies. A creative alliance between Chevrolet and Detroit's College for Creative Studies gave CCS students real-life experience in the competitiv…

I don't know about everyone else, but I haven't been able to get a good idea on just how small these cars are yet. I just got off the phone with AH-HA and others who are on the show floor. They say the cars are B segment sized. In other words, they are Mini Cooper, Toyota Yaris, Chevy Aveo, Honda Fit sized. Maybe these pics with people around the cars will help:

June issue of High Performance Chevy list some of what they have been told to expect [in general] for the new Camaro from GMPP. Dealers will offer: Exhaust Packages Cold Air Packages Cams Headers Rims DOT Drag Radials I just hope they inclued the non GM aftermarket early in the cars development as it will be the key with winning the low cost performance car title back from the Mustang. This all falls in line with similar offerings from Pontiac SPO parts for the Solstice. I would expect the Camaro will have much more to offer and I hope some of of what GM offers will include the V6 engine packages too. In the same story they did offer some more info on…

...but what the hell is going on with the Colorado and Canyon? In current form, they're a joke. Anyone know if there's a planned MCE for 2009? And will they get a next gen replacement? I see enough Dakotas, Tacomas, and Frontiers running around to know the market is there and GM sure is flopping in it.

I would just like some honest opinions on the new HD's. To me it seems like GM dropped the ball with these trucks. The half tons get a new frame and well everything, while the hd's keep the same frame with maybe a few mods. I know there are a lot of people out there that would like to see a straight axle on the front, I'm one of them. I know IFS rides better and is "strong" but its just not the same. It seems like every construction company or what ever where trucks get used hard all use ford or dodge. I believe the front end is a big player in that. Why would they keep it relativly unchanged? Now with ford and dodge getting new diesels it seems GM will have a har…

I keep seeing the new Jetta around. As much as I would not own one, it is much improved. That being said, I cannot help but notice too much Jetta in the new Malibu: overall side profile, greenhouse and door shapes, and trunk height and contours. It really jumps out at me. I think the Malibu will be a hit and I hope so. However, GM needs to stop siphoning some overall design themes (Malibu from Jetta and Enclave from Lexus). That's my humble opinion, anyway. Obviously, I voted yes.

The most important part is to pay attention. Bring the revs up to 4,000 rpm and sidestep the clutch in the 2007 Callaway C16 and watch as nature telescopes aft with exponential speed, as if someone had knocked the nut off some kind of hydrant and the landscape had suddenly begun to blow past you. Some 616 horsepower from a supercharged V8 has an uncanny knack for distorting the senses. Callaway Cars is well-known among Corvette cognoscenti for some of the baddest Corvettes since the C4 was in diapers, and now the 2007 Callaway C16 is the company's latest example of neck-stretching, head-turning Corvette performance. We drove a C16 for two days and discovered that it wa…

I got my hands on the May Hot Rod from my advertising department at work and noted they covered some of what we already know on the Blue Devil and 650 HP. Well they had a short piece on the Camaro engine line up. Here is what was stated word for word. Hot Rod May 2007 page 39 "However GM insiders have blabbed to Hot Rod the range of potential engines for GMs new Ponycar. There will be two V6 choices and at least three V8s, Including a 550 HP version of the supercharged 6.2L V-8 for the High content Z28 model. Scorces indicate there will be two base V8s, one stick and one Automatic, both of them over 400 HP." This fits along with much of what we have been hearing. I th…

Hello, Does anyone mind sharing what they paid for there new 2007 Chevy Truck, comparing sticker versus actual price? I just came back from the dealer and the best I could get for a 2007 2 door extended cab 4x4 Z71, LT1 was $2000 off the sticker. Sticker was $32,800. They told me a story of GM having narrower margins in 2007 for negotiations. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

Shipping company employee carted off to jail for Corvette SS pics Posted Feb 22nd 2007 6:02PM by John Neff Link to Original Article @ AutoBlog SPY SHOTS! 23 Corvette Blue Devil powertrain mule pics! We've just learned that EMO TRANS, the shipping company that was hired by General Motors to transport a Corvette SS mule to Germany for testing on the Nurburgring, has fired the employee who took pictures of the vehicle and posted them on the internet. In addition, the unnamed employee has been taken to jail, though we don't know what charges have been filed against him. This clearly illustrates how seriously GM is taking the development of the Corvette SS, as well as h…

copy and paste: http://www.carspypics.com/images/interiorbig.jpg Take a real good look and you'll see: 1. The seat belt is not attached to the driver seat (possibly on the roof?). 2. Auto tyranny and the gear indicator. (Around the word Car). 3. To the left of the steering wheel there is circle headlamp selector. Like the one you see on many gm cars: Impala, DTS, GMT-900, ect. 4. Steering wheel looks like itβs toned down (compared to the concept), also there are silver accents on it. 5. On right gauge it appears to be a fuel or engine temperature indicator and a speedometer. 6. 75% sure that there is a passenger door grab handle as seen on the Saturn Sky.…

Chevrolet HHR Under Consideration for Europe Link to Original Article @ Edmunds.com ZURICH, Switzerland β General Motors' European operation has announced it will show the Chevrolet HHR (Heritage High Roof) next month at the Geneva auto show in a bid to gauge European interest in the retro-styled hatchback/wagon. On sale in the United States since 2005, the HHR was initially ruled out for European sale due to the reorganization of the Chevrolet brand following GM's takeover of Korean carmaker Daewoo, which now supplies the majority of Chevrolet models in Europe. However, high-ranking GM officials say there is now a very good likelihood of it being placed on sale in s…

Ironically to my prior conviction, in considering a replacement for my wife's '03 GP, I am.... shopping with a tape measure. We have a tight-ish 90-degree turn into the 1-car-wide garage door opening, and with the GP at least- it is on the tight side. GP width is 72" and the mirrors do not fold. We would consider either another mid-size sedan or a crossover/small SUV. Space, economy & reliability are primary concerns. I don't pay enormous attention to modern vehicle specs- I had thought the Vue & Equinox were on the same platform- I see now that they're not. Vue is quite petite; must be Equinox & Torrent are siblings, right? GP is: wheelbase: 110", ove…
