Hey all, I am looking at buying a 2006 Malibu LS 4cyl with 11000 verified KMs on the clock, for $13000.......Good Buy?? The story is that the previous owner leased it from the dealer I am buying it from (who I do trust by the way) and then got a job in Europe taht she didn't think she was going to get. She had to move and the car got returned to the dealer and she paid the penalties (the new employer actually did). Thoughts?

I read the following article on yahoo news. This is why people who are really interested in the auto industry and actualy might really "care" about the "American" automotive industry, put absolutely no stock in what these people have to say. But you know every, prius driving, consumer reports reading, half wit, will curl up on the sofa with his latte and laptop to read the latest "toyota daily report". I think EVERYONE has heard, by now, that GM filed for bankruptcy, don't you think? We get it!!! GM filed for bankruptcy. What is so amazing to me, is that this little article about the most searched for cars, mentions that toyota was the most searched for "brand". …

I think I already know the answer to this, but I haven't actually seen detailed bits about the drivetrain... but its my understanding that the Volt will have a totally electric drivetrain. A gas engine, but not directly connected to the wheels, but to a generator. So if I understand correctly, since any set of wheels can be happily powered, which will it be? Front or rear? I would actually be somewhat interested in a large RWD electric coupe. ;-) I'm sure someone will set me straight in less than an hour... thanks in advance.

My uncle in Grand Rapids is one of the first 2 in that side of the state to get one. He came down to our place today with his black Volt. He's had it for 3 weeks. Got to take it for a spin. Nice driving car. When first powered up and pulling out of the driveway it was on battery until getting on the road and starting to accelerate (keep in mind I'm over 2 hours away from his place so the battery was already depleted). Only when I started slowing down for the stop sign did I hear the motor running. When did accelerate hard for a stretch and you could then hear the motor rev up higher due to the harder acceleration. Regardless the motor was very quit in every condition. You…

Linkity Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Out of nowhere, my car of the year It's been a quiet year for the world's motor industry. There have been no wrecks, nobody drowning; in fact, nothing to laugh at at all. But, hidden in the sea of normality and business as usual, were a couple of gems. We start with the BMW X6, which must receive my inaugural What Were They Thinking Of award. Have you seen one? No, and I doubt you ever will because in a world that's plagued with recession and run by people who believe the world's polar bears are up at the North Pole sipping pina coladas and slapping on the factor five, it is surely t…

Reuters has just reported inside sources have confirmed that GM has chosen LG Chem along with Troy, Michigan-based Compact Power Inc. to supply the lithium-ion battery packs for the first generation Chevy Volt. The contract will be announced in November and the terms are still being worked out. GM and Compact Power are apparently working out the details of the commercial agreement and how to split warranty costs for the batteries. GM hasn’t confirmed these reports but an LG Chem spokesman in Korea stated “we were informed that the results are due in November, but we didn’t get any official answer from GM yet. We hope for and expect a good result.” As we have heard…

Here are more pictures from my trip to the Chicago Auto Show. The first picture is of the the Trailblazer SS which I absolutely love. The Chevy Equinox just needs a bigger engine and I think it would be a hit. I love the blue on it. Next are two pictures of the '07 Tahoe. One is a base model and one is a top of the line model. I also love the interior of the new Tahoe which compared to pre-Bob Lutz era truck interiors look great. I like the exterior of the Colorado but it needs a bigger engine and a freshened interior. (see above pic. for Colorado interior)

There has been some discussion about the merits of the Sonic versus the Hyundai Accent over at the Hyundai forums and Edmunds. In essence, people have been saying that the Accent is simply a better overall value than the Sonic. Now, I have no horse in the race here but it just strikes me as strange to hear that given my impression of the Accent but my knowledge of the vehicle may be somewhat dated (the last time I saw one was circa 2006 in Bushwick, Brooklyn and it wasn't a pretty site). In short, a lot of people are saying that the Accent will run longer and with less problems than a Chevy Sonic but the counterpoint to that is that when something does go wrong you out o…

Linkity First Drive: 2010 Chevrolet Cruze Forget the Volt -- This is the Car That Must Save GM Highlights: Solid Delta II Structure Choice of diesel, gas 4-cylinder engines (Euro Version) Good Interior Layout The Chevrolet Cruze has different jobs wherever it's sold. In the U.S., where it goes on sale from mid-2010, it will be a locally made rival to the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. But in Europe, where we've just driven it, it's GM's Korean-made budget-brand entry and sits beneath the same-sized Opel (and sometime Saturn) Astra in GM's price and brand hierarchy. GM's been promising Americans an "import fighter" small car for years -- a…

We had a few new GM MFG cars in at work today. One was the 2010 Camaro SS it posted and one of the others was the 2010 Nox. The one I drove was a 4 cylinder LT2. Seating and the interior is great. It fit me fine and I felt comfortable as soon as I got in and set the seat. It is easy to see out of. THe dash lay out has a lot of things on it but they are well label and easy to find. The digital screens are wasy to read even in very bright sun. I did not know it has a digital spedo in the middle of the regular speedo and tach. While it is not heads up it is nice when you are used to HUD. Transmission shifts smooth. and is as good as the similar unit in the Malibu. …

Hello, Does anyone mind sharing what they paid for there new 2007 Chevy Truck, comparing sticker versus actual price? I just came back from the dealer and the best I could get for a 2007 2 door extended cab 4x4 Z71, LT1 was $2000 off the sticker. Sticker was $32,800. They told me a story of GM having narrower margins in 2007 for negotiations. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

Think Australia’s the king of the performance ute? Think again. South African tuning house LupiniPower is currently putting its Holden SS Ute-based Lupini Chevrolet SuperUte through an accelerated development and testing program, and word is it’s passing with flying colours. The standard Holden SS Ute gets 270kW and 530Nm out of its 6.0-litre V8 engine. For the SuperUte, Lupini has added a supercharger to make it more like the engine found in the Corvette ZR1. The result is a staggering 400kW of power and an almighty 785Nm (578lb/ft) of torque. That’s an extra 130kW/255Nm – or slightly more than adding the engine from a Volkswagen Golf 118TSI to the Holden. Accelera…

The GMnext blog has a post up that talks about the potential viability of a low-displacement turbocharged motor -- the direct-injected 2.0L Ecotec turbo, specifically -- in upcoming GM cars, including the Camaro. Let's talk about this a little. The breathed-upon Ecotec delivers 260 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque, and if you've driven, say, the Sky or Solstice equipped with it, you know just how ballsy it really is. It's more powerful (but less torquey) than either V8 offered in the '87 IROC-Z that I thought was so cool back during high school. The turbo four might well be a nice solution in a future iteration of the Camaro, but is the fuel economy argument for it as rock …

http://www.automobilemag.com/news/porsche-pdk-shifts-slower-2017-chevrolet-camaro-zl1-automatic/ "When the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 hits showrooms later this year, it’ll be the automaker’s first car to get the new ten-speed automatic, a transmission Chevy claims is so dialed in that it shifts faster than Porsche’s outstanding PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Chevy previously claimed its new ten-speed was a quick shifter during our ride-along in a Camaro ZL1 prototype earlier this year. Now Chevy has numbers to back it up. Based on Chevy’s own testing, the 2017 Camaro ZL1’s automatic shifts from 1st to 2nd gear 36 percent quicker than the Porsche PDK. The automaker claims th…

Would it be possible to keep the solid rear axle and have fold-flat 3rd row seats? Envision a cargo/storage well AFTER the solid rear axle (in between the axle assembly and the rear bumper. Pretty much where the gas tank/spare wheel sits. You'd need to move the gas tanks forward (between the frame rails, towards the middle of the vehicle). This is doable. You'd need a longer filler tube, but wtf. A side benefit would be that the weight of the gasoline would be centrally located in the vehicle; helping stability (which shouldn't be a concern on a vehicle weighing 5500lbs to start with, but again, wtf). The exhaust pipe would also need special routing (off to the si…

Last week in (yet another) celebration of the arrival of the 2010 Camaro, a parade of some 40 Inferno Orange Metallic Camaros rumbled from Victory Park in Dallas to Sundance Square in Ft. It was Chevrolet's first large-scale Camaro event, and hopefully it means that now we can get on to seeing them on the streets, instead of just talking about them being on the streets. You can check out some short-n-shaky video clips of the event after the jump, including some footage of a vintage Eighties Garland Police Camaro, as well as the gallery of photos below. Autoblog

As regular readers here know, I have faithfully followed every detail of the Chevrolet Volt story and every morsel of news since the car was no more than a show car shell and a pen and paper idea. Over these months and years we’ve run into many controversial moments. Perhaps none has been as controversial as the present “gas engine driving the wheels” fiasco. Earlier this week I attended GM’s first media press conference where executive engineer Larry Nitz described how the Volt operated. In the lecture he specifically mentioned 70 MPH as the point where the combustion engine can contribute power indirectly to the driveshaft. He was quite specific this can only occur…

New spy photos show a heavily camouflaged Holden Ute breaking cover down under. The car shows many of the tell tale signs of being based off of the new Zeta platform, including a similar proportions to the aforementioned Holden Commodore and large wheel arches. The overhauled Ute will come in time for Holden to boost its position against import 4×4 SUV's which are becoming increasingly popular in Australia. A new El Camino? Recently, there has been a great deal of speculation about the new Ute coming to America badged as a Chevrolet El Camino. Holden sources recently told Australia's CarPoint the lure of "substantial" export orders for "the Americas" have accelerate…

GM considers selling Chevrolets in South Korea May 16, 2008 10:30 AM ET Link to Source SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - General Motors Corp. is considering launching its Chevrolet brand in South Korea to capture a larger share of the country's growing market for imported cars, a company executive said Friday. The U.S. automaker will make a decision on the move after completing a study by the end of this year, said James H. Chevrolet has revealed the two extremes of the Silverado family, the 1500 and the Class 4, 5, and 6 trucks. But the HD variant has yet to make its debut. Today, Chevrolet dropped a teaser for the upcoming 2020 Silverado HD. This would be ok if it was a couple of months out from being shown, but Chevrolet isn't planning to show until late 2019. That's right, we have an 18-month wait. The photo shows the top half of the Silverado HD's front end and it looks tough. We can see the headlights being similar in shape to the 1500 and the Chevrolet script running the whole length of the grille. We're expecting a number of grille inserts depending on the trim. Does anybody think that GM will try and push these cars out for production sooner than expected? Or have the oil companies bought them off to keep fuelies? In a recent MT or R&T mag there was a GM ad in there that made a notion about hydrogen vehicles then had a "Shell" logo on the bottom of the page also (basically showed GM and Shell as partnering up on the Hydro thing). About a month ago, we reported on a California Air Resources Board (CARB) document that revealed the 2019 Camaro could be getting a seven-speed manual for the 6.2L V8. At the time, speculation was that the manual transmission could come from the Corvette. But it appears this dream has been popped. Last week, Bozi Tatarevic on Twitter uncovered that the document listing the seven-speed manual for the Camaro was marked as a canceled. A new document uploaded on the same day shows the 'Trans Type' being a six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic. CarBuzz speculates that the seven-speed transmission has been pushed back to 2020. Our guesses as to why GM pulled the seven-sp…

At the GM show n' shine, they had a crew cab Silverado, grey exterior with grey two tone leather interior. The exterior was my least favourite configuration with its short short bed, smaller wheels, and full chrome front end. It's the interior that tells the story. Believe it or not, while the plastics in the Tahoe's interior are acceptable, the LT actually had more soft touch. It's a very classy evolution of GM's past themes in their fullsizers. I can say with a straight face that I like the "work truck" dash better.

General Motors exec takes Chevy Volt to Capitol Hill today David Shepardson | Link to Original Article @ Detroit News | Washington Bureau Plug-in hybrids will be on center stage in Washington today as the Chevy Volt makes an appearance on Capitol Hill as part of General Motors Corp.'s effort to convince Congress to pass a more palatable fuel efficiency increase. GM's No. 3 official, Troy Clarke -- head of North American operations -- is returning to the Hill today to meet with a about a dozen mostly undecided lawmakers. He also will show off a GM concept car, the Chevy Volt, in trying to explain why the company believes the long-term answer to energy independence is t…

We've gotten 16,500 views on a thread with only semi-official pictures in less than three days. We've gotten over 5,400 views on the Official Concept Thread in less than 14 hours And we've gotten signatures, polls, desktops, and (most importantly) restored faith and hope to get a Camaro on the streets. Coming from a relatively small forum, I sure hope you're keeping tabs, GM. :AH-HA_wink:

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...rticleId=107094 By D. John Booth Date posted: 01-01-3000 You know, there's just no way it's a coincidence. Dave Hill, Chevrolet's chief engineer for the Corvette, can wax engineering all he wants about optimum bore size, combustion efficiency and maximizing fuel economy, but the real reason the new 2006 Corvette Z06's LS7 engine displaces 7.0 liters is that it translates into exactly 427 cubic inches, a magic number in Corvette lore. And while the new engine may not have the reputed 550 horsepower the legendary L88 had (though it was rated at a measly 430 hp to "fool" insurance companies),…

Someone took a very good video of a Camaro SS at the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show. You get to see it running, reving, and they even play with the radio. This is by far the best video I have seen so far showing the production car working. >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMylz4fVF-c Guages lit up with key in ignition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICeJjHS-vEg

http://www.cruisecontrolradio.com/0906.cfm Les Jackson of Crusie Control Radio claims to have seen a photo of a production version of the new Camaro and that GM engineer Dr. Woychowski mentioned: 'don't be surprised if it's by this time next year'. Jackson said the photo he saw looked 'even better' than the concept. The September 25th epsiode is not on the site yet but should be soon.

Fbodfather posted on CZ28 some items to watch for soon. Fbod Quote: "Further, while many people have been exceedingly upset since the cars went on "hiatus' in August of 2002, there is every reason to believe that the future indeed looks bright. After the first of January, I'll be sharing with you a web address where you can watch the festivities from Detroit as a very exciting new Coupe Concept is unveiled on the morning of January 9, 2006. Perhaps this 'unveiling' is the Christmas Gift that many of you have been asking for!" He also noted they would anounce where the show car will appear this season on Jan the 9th. Looks like Chica…

6th month update for Volt 1712. Summer went by uneventfully. I continue to drive Monday - Friday gas free with bit of gas used on the weekends. So far I've traveled 5930 miles, 4170 electric and 1760 on gas (70% electric). For the 1760 gas miles the Volt used 42.5 gallons of gas for an average of 41.4 MPG. My overall mileage is 139 MPG, factoring in the cost of electricity it's roughly 89 MPGe. The bulk of gas used was for two long distance trips. One, in July, from CT to the Outer Banks of NC. That round trip was approx. 900 miles. The trip down averaged 44 MPG, the trip home 46 MPG. Those numbers include the 40 miles or so of electric miles at the beginning of …

If you look at the Aveo, there's still one that has no designation. I guess what Chevy is trying to appeal that the others are more of a premium model, so in a sense that models got "upgraded" on the badge side.

it'll look pretty bad for sales figures to compare this june july to last june and july when they saw a 20 year high... I'm just thinking if GM has lots full of silverados, and they do another GMS, or something? Mark said he would never do it again... but who doesnt want to sell 1 million cars between 2 months? and the 2007 silverados to finish up the year should see strong sales? what does everyone think?

The Mother of All Vettes on the Mother Road By Bill Baker Email Date posted: 12-01-2005 I had driven a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 more than 2,000 miles from Chicago searching for bits of Historic Route 66. In California's Mojave Desert there was a long, lonely stretch of the old road that just might let me flirt with the 6's top speed of 198 mph. I hadn't passed anyone in miles and I could see the road ahead was empty to the horizon. I dropped the six-speed gearbox from 6th to 4th and floored it. Like a cathedral pipe organ playing Bach's "Toccata" with all the stops out, the 7.0-liter, 505-hp LS7 V8 began to thunder and howl toward it…

http://gm-volt.com/2010/03/26/gm-exec-gen-3-voltec-battery-to-have-shortened-lifespan-simpler-shape-and-be-offered-in-smaller-ranges/ Some thoughts: - I'm assuming Gen 3 will be out 2020ish. If GM is planning all these ways to cut costs on the battery in 2020 then they must not be expecting LiIon batteries to drop much in price in the next decade+. - GM's move to smaller ranges makes a lot more sense. I've always argued the smaller the battery the more utilization and the more sense it makes for more people. This is also a little tip of the hat by GM to Toyota that Toyota was on the right track with the plug-in Prius range. - I love the "no point in going from 40 t…

New York City Adds 50 Volts To Their Fleet William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com July 13, 2011 New York City Volt Announcement Gallery Yesterday, New York City mayor Michael Bloomburg announced the city would be adding 50 Chevrolet Volts into the city's fleet. The Volts will be used by the NYPD for traffic duty. "This is the latest and largest-ever addition of electric vehicles to the City’s fleet, which is already the largest municipal clean-air vehicle fleet in the nation. We will continue to lead by example, but we also must provide New Yorkers with tools to make environmentally friendly choices in their own lives," Bloomberg said in a …

http://www.insideline.com/ford/focus/2012/comparison-test-2011-chevrolet-cruze-ltz-vs-2012-ford-focus-titanium.html It's obvious that they would give the win to the Focus but I'm going to play devil's advocate on a few points... -MyFordTouch has been universally panned as overly complicated by numerous sources... Certainly moreso than the Cruze's NAV system -In my humble opinion the Cruze has a MUCH more classy and refined looking interior than the Focus. I think it's ugly... In the case of the blurple color scheme, possibly deal-breaker ugly; every other review says (contrary to IL) that the Cruze in fact has the better quality plastics. While we're on the subject t…

GM @ South Florida Auto Show 2008 Malibu LTZ The Malibu is a wonderful looking car inside and out. More handsome than either the Accord or Camry and with a superior interior, too. You can count cutlines and worry about the material five inches under the seat all you'd like, but the look and functionality is far superior to the doofy Toyota and lousy Honda interfaces. Plus, nothing looks more ridiculous than the Accord's gearshift indicator. Like a playtoy. Malibu hybrids were at both shows, but the Tampa show had an interesting variation...
