So, my television coughed-up its last about a month ago. I'm considering canceling my FIOS TV service instead of replacing the TV. Sure, there is some stuff I'll miss, but I don't think I'll miss it very much. Why not save a little cash?

I've just about reached the end of my tolerance for the way society is headed. This constant drumbeat of defeat and capitulation to the way things are makes me ill. I think it's way past time to flip them all the bird and start making changes. We need to toss all of the PC crap out the window, take the gloves off, and force a shift.

Kinda just a random thought.... but not out of the question. We've all heard of "employee owned" companies, what about many members of C&G owning a large percentage of GM?? I bet we could do considerably better than Kerkorkian! I'm far from rich, but times that by many... Just think of all the combined resources the people of this forum have. Mmmmm........???

Have you ever met someone you had an affair with years later? This happened to me today. I was not married at the time, in fact I was 19 years old, she was 32 and the wife of one of my father's friends. It went on until I was 21, then GM transfered me to Mexico for a few years, so it ended. She and her husband came to the same Italian festival I went to today, in Wilmington. It was odd because I heard her call my name and I knew exactly who it was without looking. I found out they had moved from Texas to Cape May, NJ since her husband retired this year. Anyway it brought back many memories, most are good. Most of the memories are vivid and it feels as if it were only …

By JAMES STANFORD 16 March 2008 GM HOLDEN has confirmed it will export its new Ute and a new high-performance version of the G8 sedan to the US. GMH chairman and managing director Mark Reuss also vowed to further extend the company’s export portfolio when he announced the deal at Fishermens Bend this morning. The Ute will be sold as a Pontiac G8 "sport truck" variant, although its actual title is yet to be decided. Pontiac will ask the public to come up with an apt title for the car-based ute. The Pontiac ute, which was styled by Holden designers in Australia, picks up a similar front-end to the G8 sedan. It will presented in the US for the first time at the New…

How long is your work commute? If it's a long commute, how do you manage it? I'm curious because I a company has contacted me with interest, but if I hypothetically got the job, it's 1 hour and 49 minutes each way. I don't know if I could do that 5 days a week. If you have a commute like that, how do you manage it?

If you were in the market for a crossover or cute-ute, would this vehicle appeal to you? The Honda Edix is available in Japan. It is a 6-seater 5-door hatch, roughly the size of the CR-V except shorter and more of a wagon. It uses a 2.0L or 2.4L K-series engine. I don't know the weight, but it probably weighs a little less and due to the shape likely will get 2-3 mpg better than the CR-V. The middle seat in each row slides backwards 27cm or 17cm to make it more comfortable for the person sitting there. Likely the middle seats will be occupied by children, but when needed (and if you don't mind having your arm up against somebody else's) seating capacity for 6 would be…

Here's my new toy! You guys know this car.......1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet..... Here's some facts: 1) Three model years ('93, '94, '95) 2) Total production was about 2,200 between all three years 3) Hand-built 4) NOT a "convertible version" of the E320 coupe 5) Uprated 3.0L Inline-6 with about 217hp (versus 177hp in the sedans) 6) Base MSRP (in '94) was about $77,000.....most went for around $80,000 with options I came across this car and it was an absolute STEAL. One of my best friends, who is a dealer/wholesaler, helped me find it. It's got 93,000 miles on it (not that you'd EVER know it) and the interior looks so much like new it's kinda scary. …

Far too often these are hard only for narrowing down all the amazing choices on offer. Not this one. Oh, no. Today friends, you are going to be limited only base models. And I mean base. Bottom of the barrel. No options, no exceptions. Rules- 1- These are your only vehicles. 2- You are allowed a maximum of 5 choices. 3- Production vehicles only. 4- Car can come from any market. 5- You are allowed to pick ONE vehicle that isn't NEW. Leaving the full list open to older cars will cause too much confusion and likelihood of rule-bending. 6- You can also choose to MODIFY ONE of your choices. 7- You may only choose TWO high-end spor…

C&G Curse Drifts To Kentucky

At around 8:20 PM this evening, the Curse hunted down our Saturn Aura. We were in our local Dairy Queen parking lot when a white Dodge Neon backed out and sucker punched our one month-old car in the left-front quarter, leaving a nasty dent in the bumper cover, leaving the hood off level, and creasing the left front quarter panel. The damage doesn't seem to inhibit the car's ability to drive and function properly, but then again, we've all heard a certain tale of another car famous to our forums having similar damage and declared to be totaled by the insurance company. And all of this coming just two days after we also washed and detailed the car and just one day before…

Lets try this again, but we'll start with my counter-point to the points that started the other (now locked) thread. I used 1400+ texts last month, compared to less than 6 hours of talk time. Texting is great for short questions that have short answers. I text several of my co-workers because they always have their cell phones, and their not always at their desks. My ex and I text in regards to our son and when he's going to be where and with whom. I hate phone calls where one person needs a small piece of information because they always end up dragging on longer than they should. My fiancee and I send each other random dirty/incredibly stupid texts throughout the …

ACURA UNVEILS NEW RDX RALLY EDITION "Consumption is the key," says Colliver December 12, 2006 -- TORRANCE, Calif. -- Acura takes center stage again by unveiling a prototype of the RDX Rally, a high-consumption variant of its RDX small crossover. "The RDX Rally is Acura's most serious attempt at racing yet," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "With the introduction of this revolutionary new rally vehicle, we not only borrow from the legendary racing heritage of the NSX but completely ignore it by going offroad with a crossover SUV." Similar to the RDX introduced several months ago and currently on sale, the RDX Rally brings offroad features to the …

So I've turned in a few applications and resumes at plenty of local businesses the last few days of May and I'm expecting at least one interview. Of course, with a job comes money, and I plan on shoveling that money into another car. Sure, I've got the S-10 ... but I have this urge to buy a nice car (since I do already have a truck, all trucks, with the rare exception of a cheap Syclone, are out ... SUVs still make the cut, however) that I can drive out of town without feeling embarrassed about the S-10s worn out paint, miles of dings and dents, practically non-existing exhaust system ... among other things I still haven't sorted out for some reason. I plan on it ... but …

I think a short discussion in Random Thoughts requires a separate thread. Now the questions is: how much an auto enthusiast should spend on a vehicle? Now I am not talking in hard numbers but in percentage of ones income. The financial wisdom (on all these fancy financial advice websites) states that a vehicle loan payment should not be more than 10% of ones take home income, and total auto expenses (payment, insurance, gas, etc) should not be more than 20% of the take home income. This is a common financial advice for general public. The question is, as an auto enthusiasts should we spend more on vehicles since for us it is more than just an appliance …

I was thinking the other day that Metro would be a great name for a Smart-like city car, but GM had to ruin the name by putting it on that shitbox, although I guess it was kind of a city car, it was just a pile of crap. Skylark was ruined by those pointy-nosed things Buick tried to sell.

WOW! I happened to be working on something else and got around to some web-surfing because my "leadership ethics" chapters get boring every once in a while. Somehow, I got onto the Presidential electiong prognostications. In a nutshell, nobody that I consider to be fairly conventional is in a front runner position. This leaves me perplexed. On the Democratic side, Hillary is a obviously a woman and Obama is obviously of mixed race. Not only that, there are so many other contenders that no one knows how their pie will be split up. On the Republican side, Giuliani has had an interesting personal life in terms of number of marriages and Romney from Mass. is Mormon, wh…

A lot of people over at the Skyscraperpage.com forums that I sometimes visit have been predicting this for a while, and I wouldn't be suprised if more and more cities begin building up downtown areas and inner suburbs. I know Des Moines and Omaha are both experiencing a huge housing boom downtown with new lofts and condos going up everywhere. Old inner city 'burbs like Windsor Heights are also getting built up. Some people are also saying this will be the reverse white flight...gentrification will cause real estate to skyrocket in downtown and inner city areas, forcing poorer people out. What's amazing is that most other countries, especially in Latin America and Euro…

I just saw an episode of this detective show, The Rockford Files, starring James Garner and was blown away by how good it was, all the '70s cars and the great looking gold Firebird Esprit he drove. It was fun seeing fun poked at the SolCal sensiblities of the time. The series ran from 1974 - 1980. Yep, I'm going there. With all the recent pieces on the decline of the sedan segment- primarily the midsize one- I thought what better way to honor that classic, one-time quintessential staple of American families than by doing a Dream Garage thread. So here are the rules- 1) It must have been a car for sale in YOUR market. 2) Any era is allowed. 3) It must be a mainstream brand, midsize family sedan. No compacts, full-sizes, etc. Ignore EPA ratings. We will use model hierarchy and position in market place. 4) Maximum of 5 cars. 5) Try to make these cars fulfill as many roles as possible- sport, family hauling, etc. EDIT- I…

For the second time in one week, I've locked my keys in the Cutlass. The third time, overall. And, of course, I was too stubborn to get an extra set made after the first and second times. I'm likely to repeat this and add another tally for the week. The good new is... I've become a master at breaking into it. Once I have the right tool (read: a metal hanger), it doesn't take much. Since I'm probably going to be too stubborn to actually go out and get an extra key made, I ought to just stick a hanger to my frame. I should be golden. *shakes head* I miss power locks.

The Story: A good friend of mine that I have gotten to know over the past six years is car shopping and in need a of a midsize sedan. He has done some "window" shopping and currently has considered a Altima, Accord, Camry, and Malibu. He says the Camry is the front runner and certainly I hope to change that. He has not driven any of them yet and has an open mind but has been reading consumer reports... Not good... Over the past several days I've been thinking of intrigued's new 2012 Mustang GT Premium response in the "Any changes to your "automotive family" soon?" thread and how there is not a vehicle I currently drool over that I could afford now or next year (trust me, I drool over the 2011 GMC Sierra Denali plenty, just cannot afford a new one now or in the near future). I remember in the late '80s through the mid part of this decade always lusting over something attainable. I guess the prices today, the lack of funds and credit on my end, just make it impossible for me to lust over anything much. However, there is something I wish I could have, if offered here in the states,…

I haven't been reading the posts here for the last few days because I have been car shopping. There are considerations in this purchase that are not necessarily automotive. So if you are in a hurry I will skip to the end and tell you that I got a 2007 HHR. If you had asked me last week if I were likely to get a new car, I would have responded no. My wife correctly pointed out that we are too old to need a new car. It is quite depressing to think that one might never get another car. It is even more depressing to think that the reason is you might not be alive to enjoy it. Some time last week she changed her mind. She is quite unhappy with her Pontiac. She though…

I was thinking about this the other day about cars that I miss.. options that should be still in cars, or even styling cues U miss, but manufacturers did away with them. RULES: Format will be One or Two things. As in 1) "A Car" (not an entire brand tho) 2) "A Option" 3) MUST BE REALISTIC.. and be capable of actually making money for the company. No FANTASY U can do either or both.. but no more than 6 Sentences about the car or option and what made it great. This is a "piggy back..." This one is easy for me ... and it should be no surprise. The 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme coupe...preferably in Brougham (loose cushion seating) or Salon (tall reclining buckets) trim. I'm still confining myself to one car for my answer if I say that the 1975 version was also a very attractive car, but the 1976 was a leap forward with the absence of fender sculpting and rectangular headlamps. Wow. 1976 - one of the better poses for this car, and everyone fell in love (credit to Classic Oldsmobile.com) 1975 - my favorite color at top of photo, but it needed a white vinyl top; nice tan swivel-out buckets at bottom LH suited to the rust exterior (credit to Mclel…

No, not the one with the Cobalt, but the one with the 2000 Malibu. While it was a pleasant car, her's wasn't the most reliable. So after 4 or so years of having it, she has traded it for a new car... her first since 97. So what does she get? That's right, a black 2006 Hyundai Elantra (her's not pictured). Not only did so go Korean, she got a black Korean. This is a changer for her since she's always had GM vehicles and always had lighter colors. As you guys would say, she has successfully moved to the dark side... literally. I'm going to drive it and get some pics sometime this week/weekend.

...To put your name in my signature! :P How? By coming up with something like the disclaimer I used to have. Doesn't have to be exactly like it, but it must be funny and full of sarcasm. Beyond that... just about anything goes. I'll pick the one I like the most, put it in my sig, and include your name. So come up with great ones, guys. :D

I was thinking the other day about ALL the GM cars that I've owned.....you know with the GM discount, I was able to get a new car like every 9-12 months.... I know I kinda have a rap on here for ragging on GM products (hopefully it's seen more as constructive criticism....) so here's some of the stuff I've had..... FIRST ever car bought.....1984 Buick Skylark T-Type w/the 2.8L H.O. V6 and that horrible, tacked-on, bar-graph tachometer above the gauge cluster....remember that? Silver/Grey two-tone with the light grey interior. Loved the throaty exhaust note though... 1989 Buick Skyhawk Coupe....with the 2.0L OHC L4, 5-speed manual tranny, "T"…

Just... blah... Feeling shitty and bored. So here's what a wonderful time I'm having... My GA is already dirty after spending all day Saturday washing and waxing. I can't beleive it. I just wish my car could stay for more than a day. It's ridiculous. Anyways, it's been good to me, lately. No more problems have occured and most that previously did, have fixed themselves. Although, I've noticed that my dash has developed a really bad... noise. Go around a turn or over a rough spot and I hear it. It's like a rattling/creaking sound. It was just there all of a sudden. It's not like I can hear it when I have my music at my prefered volume, thou…

Does anyone live near Savannah, Georgia. I am looking at a piece of property that is about 12 miles south of Savannah (Yes Bob It's a gated community again) that I'm seriously thinking about buying. If I do, I will sell my house in Delaware. If you live in Savannah or have lived there give me a PM. Here is where I'm looking: http://www.thelandings.com/lifestyle/video.cfm

Why couldn't this have become reality? Why did J-bodies have to be so mediocre? Why doesn't Pontiac have a replacement for this? Why can't Pontiac put that body on Delta? Why can't Pontiac have a compact to go agains't the Civic Si? Why couldn't it have been this? Why does reality have to suck so much? I hate reality... A little back story first: Well it seems that the Shadow has had it. It still runs fine and all but when I took it to the mechanic last week to have the headlighst looked at (sometimes they wouldn't turn on) and asked him to look at the cause of a small amount of smoke I sometimes see coming from the hood I got some unsettling, though not entirely unexpected news. As you guys may remember, it leaks oil and tranny fluid, this I know...not assloads but still some, and I had a suspicion that oil leaked onto the tanny and when it got hot so did the oil, hence the smoke. Well I was right...but there's more It leaks oil from: Oil Pan Camshaft Valve Cover It lea…

NEW YORK — The makers of high fructose corn syrup want to sweeten up its image with a new name: corn sugar. The bid to rename the sweetener by the Corn Refiners Association comes as Americans' concerns about health and obesity have sent consumption of high fructose corn syrup, used in soft drinks but also in bread, cereal and other foods, to a 20-year low. The group applied Tuesday to the Food and Drug Administration to get the "corn sugar" name approved for use on food labels. They hope a new name will ease confusion about about the sweetener. Some people think it is more harmful or more likely to make them obese than sugar, perceptions for which there is little scient…

Ok, for a while, it will be my 92 Regal coupe. I'm now within 1,000 miles of 250k. But, if I had to use the LaCrosse as the daily driver and wanted to get a back-up putt-around car, and no longer had the Regal, I'd consider the following (if I could find low mileage ones): - 98 or 99 Intrigue, base, only with 3800 V6 and not the 3.5 - (just saw this) on my way to work in the AM, I pass up a non-GM dealership that has an early 2000s Grand Prix GT coupe in the metallic gold with the tan interior. I really like those. - lastly, I thought about how nice the early 2000s Bonneville LE with some stock alloy wheels, NO spoiler, and the plump cloth bucket seats might be …

We've seen witty/interesting license plates, such as these in IL: BMW AT 40, Pontiac Grand Am TUTH D K, Honda Civic coupe ...BUT ... have you noticed any plate ... ODDITIES? One morning on the way to work, I happened to glance in my rear-view mirror ... and thought I saw the word "S E X" on a license plate. As I waited to turn left off Route 58 onto Barrington Rd, the vehicle went past ... and I looked at the rear license plate ... and noticed that it was a generic IL plate that had "X35" as the first 3 characters. Wonder how THAT got past the IL sensors...?!! Cort | 35swm | "Mr Monte Carlo"."Mr Road Trip" | pig valve.pacemaker ...RT 66 = Sept 5-16, '09 WRMN…

Fly's post about the 1959 Ford Skyliner insipred this: As much as I do not like the 1959 Fords, I love most any other 1959 domestic. First & forermost the entire GM lineup including the Opel-Buicks. I would rate the GM stuff like this in order of favorites: Buick Cadillac Pontiac Chevrolet Oldsmobile (GMC/Chevy trucks fall somewhere in between Pontiac & Olds) But after that, the next best thing is a 1959 Imperial, which is about as easy to find as a polite Frenchman in Paris if you're wearing an American flag on your baseball cap. Back to reality, a 1959 Dodge 2 door hardtop of any kind is a great thing to aspire to without having your head up in …

Short history: I am German, born and raised and recently moved here to the US. I want to buy a new vehicle. And that's where my problem starts. My parents always bought Opels, Kadetts more specifically until my uncle started working at a Ford dealership. We have had a Mondeo, Scorpio, two escorts and about 3 Foci (of which the last one was a 250orsomething HP 6speed Monster that I could EASILY and comfortably to 150 MPH. My mom also bought an Alpha Romeo (awesome cars, but not available in the US ) Well, here in the US, when our 96 Dodge Intrepid went out, we bought a Chevy Venture minivan that me and my wife shared and which we totally love. Now my job is taki…

It's on now....I was praying for lesbians and there were gay people on the first set. Some dude who I can't remember his name is getting knocked by the other guys on the bus because he's ugly. I love this show. Especially when gays/lesbians get on there. Usually the chicks all end up making out with each other on the bus towards the end. No offense is meant by my post...but it's a show I find entertaining.

Hey everybody, Well, my first car(1995 Chevy Beretta Z26!! - It was purple) that was handed down to my brother has been sitting a lot the last year and when running something new is wrong almost all of the time. Well, my brother has been in college and he will still be for the next couple of years but now he will be bringing his car with him as he has an apartment and lives a little further from campus next year. Well, my dad is looking for a car for him in the 5-7k price range. Nothing fancy, special, literally just something cheap and reliable and hopefully less than 100k miles. That's the hard part,,miles and price..(as with any used car purchase). Now, I know he d…

I admit it, I am a complete caffeine addict. Coffee is ok, but nothing gets me going like a nice, unhealthy Rockstar or Rumba, or if I can find it, some Bawls. Like cocaine, only available at gas stations. But today I had a weird experience, I drank my usual mornign Rockstar, and afterwards I was extremely jittery and restless, which never happens to me. I didn't crash either, just kinda slowed back down to normal. It was weird and kinda freaky. I think I'm gonna cut back now.

Back when I was a kid, I thought it was cool and liked it. But since now I drive on my own, it's not that great of an idea actually if you think about it. When you're waiting in line, you're using your own gas when you keep your engine idle. And at busy hours, it can take long. Not to mention the greenhouse gas that you emit into the environment while you idle (Unless, of course, you're driving an EV1). With gas prices these days, I can imagine how much money I waste from idling in a drive-thru line. Also, another problem I figured is, if they gave you the wrong stuff or something's missing in your bag, you would have to run back and ask them. Double the worse, if you…

Yeah-Things are getting interesting around here... Suddenly the laughable version of Detroit in Robocop aren't so funny anymore.... Things I've seen today: 1. A push out at Best Buy-which involved rolling over the guy rolling over the employee's arm with the shopping cart who tried to stop it. ( Good news is he wasn't hurt bad-lots of bruises though) 2. A hit and run in a local parking lot....and just pushed that car right into another car and kept going (I can feel for the girls-It happened to the Cobalt a few weeks ago).... I got the plate though. 3. A Domestic dispute in which my Cobalt was KICKED several times...And I got to watch the end of it too... …
