So I had a job interview today. A recruiter place called Cyrpess contacted me asking if I wanted to come in for an interview for someone from WGBH. The interview went well, although I dn't have teh skill set he was looking for. No surprise...I'm a designer not a coder. After the interview with him, I had a second one with one of teh recruiters, who got more detailed info about me so they'll be able to better match me with potential jobs that I'm skilled in. It was about 2.5 hours total. It was a good day overall. For once, despite not having my friend's GPS I didn't get lost on the way there or back...amazing. Only problem was that in total for parking n the garag…

Supposedly, 07/07/07 is a lucky day. Not 100% "lucky" for me ... but, finally ... for the first time in 2007 ... my older 4 Monte Carlos saw road pavement! My sister, Joy, came over early Saturday morning so we could clean up her 2007 Dodge Dakota quad cab w/manual transmission. Once we got done, we ate lunch ... and then went to the garage where the older 4 are stored. We drove each car about 15 miles ... just enough to get gas in 'em. MPGs were anywhere from just over 12 to upwards of 17; I don't really count these, considering how long they've been sitting and the "false start" a few weeks ago. I drove the '72 and '79; sis drove the '81 and '76. I would've liked…

Fiat Humor How do you get spare parts for a Fiat? Just follow another one around. What's the difference between a Fiat and a Jehovah's Witness? You can close the door on a Jehovah's Witness. When should you do the first oil change on a Fiat? When it gets to 50,000 miles or -- in other words -- never. Have you seen the latest Fiat anti-theft device? They enlarged the "Fiat" logo. What occupies the last six pages of the Fiat owner's manual? The bus and train timetables so you can find your way home. How can you get a Fiat to do 60 miles an hour? I'm planning on going there in the fall of 06', experiances anyone? I hear the work load is crazy, but the education is second to none with the entertainment industry in their backyard... levi strauss, Billabong, The Gap and many other brand's are located in and around the greater San Fransisco area... L.A., OC, and Sandiego have a ton of respectable names as well... has anyone in here visited the campus... ? Just curious, take care. Some random sketches.

Just picked up a '84 Indy Fiero tonight... guy said it ran and shifted perfect and was reliable. Halfway home I go to stop and take off and can't get it into any gears unless I shut off the car. Let's just say it was a tough slow drive the rest of the way back. Of course the guy won't answer his phone now. Test drive apparently wasn't long enough to find the problem. Anyway, I'm assuming that would be the slave clyinder?? I just bought the car to put miles on and save the miles on my Avalanche, well, this left a bad taste in my mouth and Fiero is going right up on ebay, whatever it sells for is what it sells for, no reserve. Just thinking that I might try and fix the …

I have a couple of questions as I have gained insight on how to put a V8 in a Fiero without having to cut the frame. First off, the engine is a 4.9L Cadillac V8 from an 88-94 Cadillac FWD. How relaible are these engines? Also were they considered Northstar or was that the 4.5L? Something I can't quite remember is if the Fiero 2M4 is unibody or is it body on frame? I will be getting the Fiero from the junkyard if this works out. I want to know because they will be quite rusty and the panels and underbody will need to be done. The 4.9L is from an 89 Deville that I am looking at. It is about $900 at a local dealer but they would take less. The body is really rusty but the en…

My little dog passed away today. Meggie was fifteen years, 3 months old to the day. I got her in October, 1990. She was the runt, but I saw a puppy full of life and energy. She gave me infinite joy over the years. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. She was my constant companion her whole life. She slept with me each night. I'm lost, and numb right now. I love her and I miss her, always.

I just realized today that I have been a member of C&G for five years this month. May 2003 was when I first registered, way back on the really old board. I was looking for some information on the Oldsmobile phase out and linked to here, which was still in a fledgling state and probably had only 200-300 members. And what kept me coming back was the Member's Talent area, the Skunkworks designs for the Chevelle, and the professional comprehensive reporting on automotive news. As long as I've been a member, we've had three major board redesigns, two large board failures, we've seen the last Oldsmobile roll off the line, we speculated what the C6 Corvette would look…

So I am tooling to work in my Tahoe and suddenly realized a startling fact - out of the 10 cars that were around me on a three lane highway - me and a Pontiac GP were the lone GM cars!!! 2 out of 10! Toyotas were everywhere - including a new white Turdra Doublecab! This is the heartland, and for this many Toyota's on the road in this area it just makes me sad. It doesn't help that the big GM dealers in this area are owned by the same company and they are all A-holes to deal with...but I hate to see this many Japanese cars here in what was a GM stronghold. Anyone else out there having the same problem?

I just have to announce that I am sick and tired of finding TRASH in my mailbox from the Obama campaign. It's been coming almost DAILY. Think of how much this $h! is stacking up in our landfills... what a waste of resources and energy, and stupid-ass Obama wants to talk out the other side of his mouth and demand that CAFE go to a ricockulous 60 mpg. What kind of effed-up dream world is this guy living in?.

Yech! For those on the semester system, final exams are right around the corner. Mine start on Wednesday night and I have two others, all at night time, within a week from that because I am in an evening program. I have been burning the candle at both ends, ending up at coffee shops with my books from 11 pm to 1:30 am or so since I find myself cat-napping at weird intervals. The upside: I will be DONE with finals, and with my degree program, in less than 10 days. I think I can manage. What about you? Big finals load? Are you coping / what do you do to cope?

Yesterday, I finally began work on the electra. I started by sanding down all of the rust on the passenger side and spraying it with semi flat white auto enamel. Today, im going to continue doing that u tillall of the rust is gone. Then im going to use body filler to fill in the dings, small dents, and a few holes i discovered. then im going to repaint. Finally, its going to the paintshop for a new coat of paint. As, money flow increases, the nasty rear quarter damage will get removed. After the exterior, theres only a few mechanical things to get done. The interior just needs a headliner.

Definitely the best bang for the buck I have spent on my car! Here is the electric cutout... Here are some pics of the install... Installed and all wired up... Here are some videos of the cutout working and me having some fun... For those who don't know: '98 Camaro 3.8L auto with cam (pushrods/valvesprings too), headers, 3.73/limited slip, intake/exhaust, tune. Well, tonight was the first time I floored the Camaro now that she has over 350 miles on the rebuild (starting the night, I'd say about 300). So, I start toolin' around to feel the extra power by myself without trying to race anybody. Well, needless to say, my buddy's Neon totally got whomped on even when he tried and he was speechless by how much faster my car got since the rearend, cam, headers, and tune. So then there's a really loud Fox Body Mustang who keeps looking over at me while hitting it. Well, everytime he hits it, his whol…

So after wanting a good digital camera for the last three years, I (we) finally got one for Christmas. Jessica and I got it as a gift from my brother and my mother. It's a Canon SX10 IS. Funny thing is it's the same one BV recently got, and even funnier is that it he bought his from the same place this came from: newegg. I love taking pictures, so this is quite awesome. For now I'm just playing with the settings and taking test photos, but what a difference compared to the Kodak. So naturally I've taken one or two.

Told the guys on the crew that a Honda was not good enough for him and only an Acura would do. Kevin Laughed in my face when I told him he might consider domestic cars. Told me I was nuts for even thinking it. So this morning in the parking lot before work, we are all shooting the bull and drinking coffe and...Kevin rolls up in a metallic red Mustang GT convertible. I'm getting a new cell phone. Early yesterday I won the eBay auction I've been bugging you guys about. The phone in question is a Boost Mobile i875. It has features that I'll probably never use like Bluetooth® and GPS, and features I've grown to love like nationwide walkie-talkie (I really can't live without my bleep). Plus it plays MP3s. Thanks to eBay, I got the phone for half of what it retails for. It's brand-new in the original packaging and even comes with a free car-charger. I'm psyched. More importantly, it's replacing my old i850 which is beat to $h!. My current phone has quite a few miles (or minutes) under it's belt, and the ante…

Do you think working an average of 28 hours a week at minimum wage would be enough to be able to pay off a $3-$5k loan with a clean, blank slate of credit? I'm curious about it since I'm serious about wanting to buy another car, a nice(er) one. Having never dealt with loans or such, I'm not sure what to expect.

Friend of mine wants a Camaro. He has very good credit. The Chevy dealer said he only got approved for $15,000. He went to a Honda dealer to check out what they had and found out he could get approved for $30,000. What gives? He wants a Camaro but if he can't get the financing he's going elsewhere, probably for a Honda.

My Firefox has been a bitch lately. It's slower than usual and it even froze up on me earlier today. While Im not ruling this out, I highly doubt it's a virus or spyware as I'm not going to any irregular sites, just the same ones that I never had problems with even when I used IE. Now, not long ago, I did make it so I could watch videos and listen to music, but just for Youtube and Myspace. I just had some plugin installed that Mozilla's website suggested. I don't think it would have this affect on Firefox... but knowing my backwords working PC, I wouldn't doubt it. Otherwise, I don't know what could be causing Firefox to run so slow. I can't even use IE anymore which is …

By JAMES STANFORD 16 March 2008 GM HOLDEN has confirmed it will export its new Ute and a new high-performance version of the G8 sedan to the US. GMH chairman and managing director Mark Reuss also vowed to further extend the company’s export portfolio when he announced the deal at Fishermens Bend this morning. The Ute will be sold as a Pontiac G8 "sport truck" variant, although its actual title is yet to be decided. Pontiac will ask the public to come up with an apt title for the car-based ute. The Pontiac ute, which was styled by Holden designers in Australia, picks up a similar front-end to the G8 sedan. It will presented in the US for the first time at the New…

My car has always had a small whine coming from the power steering which I had read was pretty normal with LS's and 90s-early 00s Fords in general, but the last couple days with the weather getting colder the faint whine has become a loud squeal and it sounds terrible. I have to go home this weekend which is a 500 mile round trip, so I'm thinking I probably don't want to risk the power steering pump going out on me with that many miles ahead. Right now the plan is to head to Lincoln Mercury tomorrow morning and see if they can diagnose for sure that it's the pump and if they have any in stock. If they can't get it done tomorrow, I'm probably going to be renting my firs…

First Pre-Worn Guitars, Now Pre-Worn Cars ... ? by black-knight, C&G Editor/Reporter 10th, May, 2011 When it comes to the world of guitars, a trend has developed over the last few years concerning "road worn" or "relic'd" instruments, where, for example, a brand new Fender Strat is made to look like it's been chained to the back of Billy Bob's old Dodge work truck and ravaged down a back country road. For Fender, just to name one manufacturer, it has been one of their primary ways to cash in on what draws some buyers to the vintage market: the frikin' mojo, man. Usually these pre-beaten guitars will cost you a considerable premium over their shiny and brand …

Been a while. Good to see you guys are still in operation post-bankruptcy. Some of you may remember me, I wasn't the most active poster but I have been a member since 2002 (before the real big redesign back in 2005). Also, you should be happy to know I'm still carrying the GM torch in other message boards I'm active in. Oh, and I guess I have to post me and my wife's current rides. I'm still in the old beater, a 2001 Cavalier. It actually had a fuel pump failure last summer, which set me back $500. But, bought used in 2005 and thats the only problem I've had, so I can't complain much. As for my wife, we sold the 2006 Escape back in September and bought a 2010 Mazd…

I have only one complaint about the Enclave from the looks of it, the metallic trim on the dashboard is misaligned on both models here where it meets with the second half of the dash trim under the clock....otherwise these are stunning...I alos saw one in person for the first time tonight, a CX with ebony cloth interior...and the dash trim had the same problem in this model in person....hope it gets fixed soon. So I was cooking some dinner, and reminiscing about fish sticks. I haven't had them in a while, because I love fish sticks... but they are always a disaster. For those who remember the '70s, am I crazy or has modern processes destroyed the fish stick. In the '70s, fish sticks were crispy and easy to cook... my mother made fantastic fish sticks and we had them in abundance, so they must have been cheap. In fact, I think my mother cooked them in the microwave and they still came out great. I never seem to find decent fish sticks... they never get crispy... they go from soggy to charcoal. They stick to the pan or rack and the breading falls off. The fish inside is a…

Fisker Karma V8 Conversion Company Has “Hundreds” Of Orders For those of you who follow the green car industry, you may have heard that hybrid startup Fisker Automotive is basically in bankruptcy. Despite being a gorgeous car, the Fisker Karma suffered from subcompact interior room, poor performance, worse gas mileage, and an expensive plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It was pretty much doomed to fail. Which is a real shame, because the Fisker looks great. But what will the hundreds of Karma owners do now that the company that built their expensive car is going belly-up? According to Wards Auto, at least a hundred Fisker Karma owners have approached VL Productions to replace …

Here's something you don't see everyday; a new car company called Fisker Coachbuild based out of Newport Beach, California will build the Tramonto, a $250,000 supercar. The company is owned by Henrik Fisker, former Aston Martin design chief, and the 710-hp car will be limited to about 150 units. This thing is increadibly cool looking. Pics

As I was sitting in Mickey D's this evening being a bad boy eating my quarter pounder, I watched to see who would leave the restaurant and hop in a gray, base model Honda Fit in the parking lot. It was an 80-year-old lady, 95 pounds at most, with a huge hairdo, accompanied by her p.i.m.p., a dude who was at least 80 and walking pretty slowly. Has the "Fit is Go!" ad campaign fallen on (nearly) deaf ears? Is every "hip, young" Japanese car doomed to congregate at Friday Night Bingo at the VFW? I find this phenomenon pretty amusing.

A fitness thread... Anyways I know that many of our members who are active on the forum are also some fitness freaks...and I should also consult a doctor on what I should do/go to reddit, but I realized that this place is much better in terms of the variety of folk we have here. So guys right now I am a size 34 waist on my pants & shorts. I'd like to be able to fit in my size 28-30 pants like I could just 15 months ago... I went out for a light jogging/walk the other day. Now I haven't done any kind of jogging/running for a long time...maybe like 6 months. The day before yesterday was when I did my jog. I would do intervals. I realized like I fe…

Hmm....this is interesting. My wife wants to keep her Cavalier. (people want to keep cavaliers? ) The current plan was to upgrade her car, aka the "family" car, to a nice used Liberty or Nox, and delegate her 03 to my beater 4dr, thus allowing me to have fun with the next new car. (cruze, focui, Aveo, Mazda 3, etc...) Two reasons for her logic: 1. A real vacation. Italy, Europe, someplace far and cool.... 2. To see if we decide to expand the family. There's a good chance of that, so she might want to wait until we need it to save a few bucks..... I have a slight issue with this, but not much. I guess the fact that the car is almost 7 years old might be why. T…

State considers charging by the mile Isabel Mascarenas 4 days ago St. Petersburg, Florida - Motorists are fueling up less often these days. Some are buying fuel efficient cars, while others are simply driving less. That means every gallon that sits in a gas station's pump is money the state loses in taxes for road projects, an estimated $7 billion over the next five years. Instead of raising the gas tax, some state transportation officials are considering charging motorists based on the miles they drive. Keith Craig says it seems like a good idea, "The general idea seems to be fine for retirees who don't drive too much." This is how the program would work: a GPS t…

Yeah, I checked, and it's not April 1st... Flash of Genius: The Windshield Wiper Drama You've Been Waiting For Date posted: 09-08-2008 HOLLYWOOD, California — What could be the best car movie of 2008 doesn't have a single action sequence in it and centers around the invention of intermittent windshield wipers. Swear to God. Opening October 3 will be Flash of Genius starring Greg Kinnear as Dr. Robert Kearns, the Detroit-area college professor who invented intermittent wipers and received his first patent on the design back in 1967. He spent virtually the rest of his life fighting Ford, Chrysler and other automakers to get them to recognize his patent and hon…

went to a local gun show this morning and picked up a new toy. Got a Taurus PT 24/7 PRO Compact. I had looked at one before and almost got it, but backed out cause the show was coming up. the only thing i dont like about mine is that its got the factory sights, the other had heinke straight eights on it, but that will be fixed soon. i'll post some pics later. after taxes and all it came to $445. they had an XD .40 sub-compact for $519 but i backed out cause i like the fact that the taurus is a SA/DA. the XD also seemed a little too... little. Anybody else picked up something nifty in the shooting world lately?

I've always been interested in photography, but lately its become an obsession. I find myself logging into Flickr at least once a day and searching completely random things just to see what's out there. I've always been a 'boredom surfer' in that, I'll get board and go to a search engine and search randon things. Is anyone else obsessed with Flickr? I think I might do the 365 pictures thing soon, where you take one picture each day and submit it.

Ok, I'm at a software conference/convention over at Disney's contemporary resort. A few questions for your native Floridians (I know a couple of you are from here): 1) What's with the flipping humidity? 2 seconds outside and you think to yourself: dang, I should've put deoderant on my balls. 2) What's with the STUPID "ApplianceDirect" commercials? They are about 15 minutes long, they've got some wacko pseudo-homely chick and some crazy guy talking non-stop -- and they alternate yelling "ApplianceDirect!". I stumbled upon it the first night I was here (Sat) and I (unfortunately for me) couldn't stop watching it: i…

Just wanted to get a grip on who all is going to be here on Saturady to see Fly off on his journey. I don't know what we are going to be doing (after wasting a few hours checking out cars and talking cars). Going to have dinner somewhere has been suggested, which might be the best idea because it is going to be very hot and humid here according to the forecast. Anyway, I wanted to warn the neighbors (I live on a shared driveway) about the cars that will be showing up, so please confirm that you are coming in this thread. Should be a good time.

Just about six months ago I fell in love with a tripple Brown Buick. It was a 455 powered BiCentenial LeSabre four door hardtop. The car was on craigslist for $1300 O.B.O. Today while looking through my 47 gigs of car photos I found the photographs the kid posted on craig's of the LeSabre. I thought since the car is now Fly's I'd post them for his & your viewing pleasure. After I got the car I painted (rustoleum rattle can) the lower 1/4s that were primered, put hubcaps on it & installed the stainless steel trim that had at one point been held on by drywall screws... I used non-corrosive ones and followed suit. And here's the after: http://www.c…

I found the perfect car to replace your Olds. A 1007 Mitsubishi Galant, $99/month. Thats less than what you pay for repairs. I can look into it and get terms of the lease (I'm assuming its either a massive amount up front or insanely low mileage) if you're interested. You can be one of the few, the proud, the Galantists.
