http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/cto/1206301823.html Text of the ad is below in case it gets removed: For sale is a POS (piece of S---) 1986 Ford Bronco II bought from LEE SWEELEY in Clinton Iowa no more than 8 hours ago. I talked my cousin into driving 93 miles (186 round trip) to go pick up this piece of crap in CLINTON, IOWA yesterday evening. I will try to fill you in on a few things HE left out before I made the hour and a half trip (three hours round trip) wasting a half a tank of gas or more. It's a silver '87 with T-tops and a split bench seat, 46k original miles, very clean though not perfect, still titled in original owner's name. The seller wants $8,500 ( a bit high IMO) but he seems eager to sell it and willing to negotiate. The car is quite nice.

Found on Craigslist - This 1980 Camaro Mustang GTO Chevelle Charger Honda Prototype. What looks to us to be a thrown together combination of spare parts from the garage can be yours for the low price of $1,234 Canadian. That's right... 1,2,3,4. The owner believes it to be equipped with a rear-engine 450 (cc? ci? horsepower?) twin-cylinder. He also believes that keyword stuffing his ad's title will help interest some shopper looking for a Camaro or Chevelle into spending money on this. Three-wheeled cars have a long and interesting history. A new entry, Elio Motors, is in the start up stages using one of the closed manufacturing plants that GM sold during the bankruptcy…

From 1957 through 1991, the Mercury Colony Park reigned supreme as the biggest and sometimes most expensive vehicle in the Mercury lineup. During the early years it was a hybrid of sorts, often sharing its platform with whatever full-size Ford sedan was in production at the time while occasionally plucking engines or suspensions from the Lincoln catalog. After 1978, the Colony Park's fate was forever tied to its Marquis sedan brother and the Ford cousins, no longer did it have equipment ties to Lincoln. For 1992, the big Ford and Mercury sedans were redesigned to the new Aero look introduced ten years earlier on the Tempo/Topaz and made into a best seller with the 198…

If you don't like the thread, great... move on. But if you do post some of your favorites. It's always nice to share personal favorites. I'm going to kick this thread off wihtthe crazy oddballs. Japanese Hardtops, mostly from the late 1960s to the mid 1970s. Some of these you might not have ever seen others you may not ever even known existed. Once we get these kooky Jalopies out of the way we can move on to the 70s domestic land yachts, 60s mucle cars & 50s finned wonders. All with pillarless hardtop greenh…

Sadly, like a lot of families, mine kind of split in two after my grandparents died. My uncle and aunt got the family farm in the estate settlement. This has been a source of deep friction ever since between my uncle and his sisters (one of which is my mom.) I lived there from 1971 to 1997. When I finally moved out, I left a lot of things where they lay. I haven't been back since. Until today. I called my uncle and asked if I could go visit and take some of my things. He said "sure", so I jumped in the truck and headed south. How can you go home again? Time that has passed came rushing back to shore, to deposit the seashells of my childhood. I picked them up, o…

So, my mom is a teacher and one of her co-workers lives in a small town called Irwin. Anyway, apparently there is an old 100+ year old house right off the highway that is haunted. They sent us a link to a paranomal website featuring the house. Check this out: The people that live in this house have no kids and moved in a few years ago after the former family moved out because they were scared of the spirits inhabiting the home (the current owners didn't find out it was haunted until after the sale). They hired some paranormal dudes to come…

Hey, have you ever been driving down the freeway on a road trip of at least a couple of hours and seen a Costco near an off-ramp when it's close to lunch or dinner time, preferably on a Saturday or Sunday? And your stomach is growling? Did it yesterday. The economy is clearly sputtering as there were FEWER people in the store on a Sunday at about 4 pm and FEWER tasting stands. If you are unobstrusive, you can manage 2 tastes at any station you like. It will fill you up some and you can sample foods you may not ordinarily buy or find something you will eventually buy. Obviously, I also look at their latest electronics to see if there is anything I need. I also …

Free Parking Comes at a Price NY Times IN our society, cars receive considerable attention and study — whether the subject is buying and selling them, the traffic congestion they cause or the dangerous things we do in them, like texting and talking on cellphones while driving. But we haven’t devoted nearly enough thought to how cars are usually deployed — namely, by sitting in parking spaces. Is this a serious economic issue? In fact, it’s a classic tale of how subsidies, use restrictions, and price controls can steer an economy in wrong directions. Car owners may not want to hear this, but we have way too much free parking. Higher charges for parking spaces would l…

Uh huh... so the question is, have you ever ridden in a Police car? And doing it intentionally or having an ex cop car doesn't count. So... have you? If so.. entertain us with a story. So... why did I start this? Last night... I got a nice ride in a cop car. Yay. I was riding my ATV late at night (no, not nude or without lights again), like around midnight for something to do since I wasn't tired and the electric went out preventing me from getting on the computer last night (I really don't know why... it wasn't storming or anything). Well... I forgot that I had switched to my reserve tank the previous time I took it for a ride. I was riding through the woods near B…

I drove here from Houston in the new Vue. Took two 12 hour days to get here but it was worth seeing some fall foliage. I'm heading back through Kentucky and then down through Atlanta over the next 2 days (to visit more family). Lots of GM's up in this area, kind of interesting to see. The Vue is running great - but I can only get the heater to work if I turn it all the way to 85 - cold air otherwise. Very weird. Anywho...I knocked off 2 more elusive states on the way (Missouri and Indiana) - I have 9 more to go and I've been to all 50. Nothing like Neil Young during an autumn Missouri sunset on I-55 heading into Illinois.

Had or heard any good ones lately? I was watching the Barrett-Jackson auction with a friend of mine. She saw an old pickup truck on there with wood in the bottom of the pickup bed, seemed like it was there to save the paint. So she says. "If I ever buy a pickup I'll get someone to put wood in my box." I also had one the first day I started at a computer shop, back in high school. I told the guy to put the dick in the drive.

My (non-car-guy) friend is looking for something to replace his 2002 Hyundai Accent. This is the friend of whom asked me to sell his 70s Ford LTD for him. Basically, he feels his car is way too small and way too basic, which is quite understandable. It is a lowly Accent, afterall. He also had to cough up $1k when the timing belt snapped and bent some valves at the end of last year. Otherwise, it's been a relatively good car to him. He's looking to move up into something thats more liveable and will be reliable. One of his main critera is that he doesn't want to drive something that everyone has. My point of posting is... We came across a 2001 Cadillac Catera with only …

I'm currently in a situation where I've found someone I feel is the absolute ideal for me, and he looks at me as just a good friend. I'm head over heels for him--I think he's the greatest guy I've ever met... again, he sees me just as a good friend. Ever been in this situation? Has anyone ever had the situation turn out good where the other person actually started liking them romantically one day? Or has it just turned out to be a lot of heart-ache?

Been a long time, so this one is overdue. And it's a fun one to jump back with. C&D just posted up their First Drive Review of the new 991.2 Turbo. Here is the link- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2017-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive-review Since there was no as-tested price, we're going to use the range from just below base price on a Turbo, to just above base price on a Turbo S. That's a nice ~50K bracket. So, you have to spend at least $150,000, but no more than $200,000. The only requirement is that the car be some sort of high-end sport coupe/sport-GT/etc. Have fun.

What Makes More Sense? In looking for replacements for the Cavalier, we've narrowed it down to three options. -2007 Cobalt LT/G5 SE Sedan (~20-25K Kms) -2007 G6 V6 (25-30K Km) -2007 Grand Prix (28-30K Km) The Cobalt LT/G5 SE would set back about 12000$, the G6 or Grand Prix 13000$. I know that cars like the Cobalt are the most frequently abused by rental agency clients, even the G6 falls under this category. The allure of a 3800 W-Body is appealing as well. The GP we're looking at is that Grey-Green color with the black cloth interior. The G6 is that Dark Slate color with the 3.5L V6. The Cobalts and G5s are Ultra Silver with the 2.2L L4. I will make cl…

So.. I know what you're all thinking.. And I'm thinking the same. I love my Camaro, I really do. I love most everything about it. However, it's wearing on me and isn't as fresh as it was 2 years ago when I started driving, much less 6 years ago when we bought it. What's bugging me about it? Read on. Let's date back to when we bought this thang: almost exactly 6 years ago. Since the first day we had it in the garage, it has had a very slight oil leak. I'm talking about maybe one drip of oil on the garage floor after each time of taking it out for a drive. Not a big deal, no, but it does mean that my rear main is bad. But.. we fixed that with the engine rebuild, right? …

I think it's mostly a Southeastern thing...that of not having front license plates on cars (so you can have a Confederate flag license plate instead....just kidding...just kidding). I was in FL and Atlanta for 2 weeks in early September. I am going down I-95 out of the JAX airport a little fast in a RED Grand Prix and see a State Trooper conveniently under the shadow of an overpass with his radar gun aimed. I tapped on the brakes but was following others at the same pace. I wondered if the area allowed for tickets to be conveniently sent in the mail. Then it dawned on me, I have NO FRONT LICENSE PLATE on the car. The following week up in Atlanta, I noticed the sam…

FrostWire vs. LimeWire

I just read up on FrostWire (a P2P program that is based on LimeWire) and I like the features. It sounds like a nice way to reach out and grab some bootlegs and get into some bands I've been meaning to listen to. I also like the fact that, in addition to that fact Frost wire offers what LW Basic offers, you get some of LW's premium features as well. I just got to know one thing: is the program clean and, if not, is there a way to clean it up. I don't want to do system restore twice a month. If you know anything, drop a line here. Thanks.

Being in that twenty-something age range, I'm kind of a connoisseur of frozen pizza right now. It's cheap and many days after work I don't feel like making a big meal. When I was a kid, we used to always get Red Baron. I haven't had it in a few years, but I wasn't really a fan of it when I was younger because all the toppings would slide off and it usually had too much sauce. Brands I've had recently are Jack's, Tombstone, California Pizza Kitchen, and Totino's. I usually skip the DiGiorno type brands because if I'm going to spend 6 bucks on a frozen pizza, I'll just make my own or order one. My favorite is Jack's, especially the new Naturally Rising crust version…

Brent Saba had just dropped a church group off at Philadelphia International Airport on Sunday morning and was heading north on Interstate 95 when it happened: His 15-passenger van ran out of gas. Saba, a 24-year-old church pastor, made it to the shoulder just past the Ben Franklin Bridge and waited more than 30 minutes for someone to stop and lend him a cell phone. Then he waited a while longer for AAA to arrive with fuel. With gas prices hovering at $4 a gallon, motorists like Saba are putting less fuel in their tanks — then coming up empty on the highway. Though national statistics on out-of-gas motorists don't exist, there's plenty of anecdotal evidence that dri…

I've always liked fruit snacks since I was a little kid, but we rarely had them because they were always so expensive. Even today, I rarely buy them because you pay $2-3 for a few little pouches that contain like 8 pieces per pouch. I've never understood why fruit snacks are so expensive and why the quantities are so small per package...they must make a killing.

Under No Child Left Behind and Iowa state laws, special needs kids who would normally be in a special education classroom must be part of the regular classroom per inclusionary policies. When this kid was having a tantrum and throwing things around the room, my mom basically had to make the entire rest of the class leave until the episode was over as part of the policy. The teacher cannot physically remove the kid from the classrom, so the rest of the class suffers lost learning time. And apparentl…

Fuel economy is a buzz phrase that most car buyers/owners want to maximize. Accordingly, car manufacturers are striving to give buyers excellent MPG. Among newer Ch#$r%*ets, while not the most fuel-efficient models available, these are still considered by many to be "fuel efficient" (compared to say, trucks, SUVs, etc.), with figures I searched for online...: 2008 V6 malibu, FWD ... EPA-estimated 17 mpg city 2008 V8 (active fuel management) impala SS, FWD ... EPA-estimated 16 mpg city 2007 V8 (active fuel management) mc SS, FWD ... EPA-estimated 18 mpg city Comparing ... the 2008 V8 G8 GT, RWD, has an EPA-estimated 15 mpg city Meanwhile, the 2008 Dodge Charge…

Does anyone else notice a big drop in fuel economy when using the air conditioning? For people with automatic climate control do you ever manually turn off the air conditioner?

Spin off from another thread. I'll update material swings in price. Something that will probably make the news today: The spot price for oil just fell over $4.80 a barrel to be under $120. Currently sitting at $118.58. RBOB Gasoline is down 11 cents a gallon to $2.97.

We are currently under renovations at work; however, they don't have anything to do with what just happened this morning. There are two elevation changes off the street up to our building. One is the sidewalk with another strip of pavement to the right of it. Then there's another step up to another sidewalk along our windows. A senior lady didn't lift her foot high enough and caught her toe on the upper sidewalk. She went down and bashed her eyebrow on the concrete. An older gentleman had noticed her go down and immediately went out to help her; I saw the commotion and followed. There was a bit of blood on her brow, a bloodshot eye, and she complained about side p…

I think the detail on this thing is amazing! Shannon Goff was born in Detroit, a trigger for her lifelong interest in the evolution of transportation. Captivated by her grandfather’s 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V, she had considered making the car many times, but shied away due its massive size. “Miles to Empty” brings this longtime dream to reality, a sculpture that is her most ambitious project to date. The work pays homage to her grandfather and hometown while dually reexamining themes inherent to the Motor City like the American obsessions of luxury and convenience. Fullsize P/U Comparison: Toyota vs. Chevy vs. Nissan The 2007 Nissan Titan takes 3rd place in this group, though three years ago it placed 1st in its class with ease. With the introduction of the all-new Silverado and Tundra, the game has simply moved on, and the Titan's traditional character is cast in a harsher light. It has neither the capability of the Tundra nor the comfort of the Silverado, and the road manners of neither. It's not that the Titan is bad — it's that the other two are so good. The fact that the Titan's range of configurations isn't up to par with the others did not play into our scoring, but is a reality it must contend with in the marketplace. I…

Number of birds killed by the BP oil spill: at least 2,188 and counting. Number of birds killed by wind farms: 10,000-40,000 annually. Number of birds killed by cars: 80 million annually. Number of birds killed by cats: Hundreds of millions to 1 billion annually. Don't worry there is some good news. Number of birds killed by fisheries: tens to hundreds of thousands annually (fortunately for the birds, some of these fisheries are now shut down).

"China alone loses between 100 million and 200 million tons of coal each year to mine fires, as much as 20 percent of their annual production, according to the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, based in Enschede, Netherlands. The Institute estimates that carbon dioxide emissions from these fires are as high as 1.1 billion metric tons, more than the total carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles in the United States."

Am I the only smartass on the roads? I like to... make super wide turns in my truck at intersections... like it's a Kenworth or something, just to see the look on ppl's faces. I also like to pass someone reallllly slowly sometimes... Say the speed limit is 55 and they're going 50, I pass them at 51.5 mph. It's fun to act like I'm really gripping the wheel when I pass like I'm going about 95 mph. Anyone else have any fun on the roads?

I am a huge Disney Parks fan/enthusiast and love EPCOT CENTER (being old school, I hate calling it 'Epcot'). The link above to Youtube has a great parody of the changes made to EPCOT CENTER <Epcot> over the years. If you too are an EPCOT CENTER <Epcot> fan and have been there recently or are aware of the changes over the last several years, you'll get the jokes. Enjoy!!

So I drop my seventeen year old son off at guitar Center, and cruise through the local Ford dealer...look at a few cars while my son is looking at guitars...then I slide over to the Hyundai dealer because my son wants to spend some time playing one last guitar. I'm checking out the Genesis coupe, and some guy has his two kids in the back seat (young, perhaps about 6 and 8, boy and girl). Guys wife is test driving a Sonota, and this guy is telling me how a V6 Genesis is faster than a Camaro SS or Mustang GT, and how Hyundai is the most awesomist car company ever. I'm trying hard not to LMFAO at this point... He then says that Hyundais never break...at that moment, bot…

...so I'm talking to a guy I know who runs a MINI Cooper S and was at a track day at Nelson Ledges, which is up by Cleveland. Anyhow, kid in an Acura Integra comes up to him before the open track event and says in broken english "you...very old man...you fat...have very...very slow car...you see me...you get the phuc out of my way...you hear old man..." About ten laps into the session the MINI driver laps the modified Integra. About antoehr 7 laps and the MIMI laps the Integra again. After 5 more laps, the MINI passes the Integra to lap it a third time. After the hot lapping session the guy I know goes up to the kid and says, in mock broken english... "What's wr…
