well as ive mentioned before, im a volunteer firefighter.... ive been a junior (non responding) member since i was 16, and last month i became a full member. Well last night we had a report of a house fire... the first since ive been in.... cool for me right? not so much.... see yesterday i had been sick all day, and had been throwing up. when the call got toned out, i had just thrown up, but there was no way i was missing it. we get to the scene, and my compnay had the 3rd hoseline, meaning we werent taking the brunt of the fire. by the time we really were in there, the fire was pretty much done, but this place was a mess... real packrats, so we had to clear out the fi…

Okay, so I'm new (and quickly becoming addicted) to buying stuff on eBay. The latest auction I've become interested in is a BuyItNow () auction with the option of Best Offer (). I plan on making an offer, rather than resorting to paying the BuyItNow price. On the Submit Best Offer page, it says “Make this offer your Best Offer. You can only make 1 offer on this item.”. My question is, if my offer is declined...that's it? I can't counter-offer with a higher amount? If that's the case, anyone have any advice on how low the seller might be willing to go? I mean, why make the Best Offer option available if you aren't willing to sell at a lower price? TIA -Bim…

I am a huge Disney Parks fan/enthusiast and love EPCOT CENTER (being old school, I hate calling it 'Epcot'). The link above to Youtube has a great parody of the changes made to EPCOT CENTER <Epcot> over the years. If you too are an EPCOT CENTER <Epcot> fan and have been there recently or are aware of the changes over the last several years, you'll get the jokes. Enjoy!!

Lately I've been in this strange mindset of trying to change things to get it all fresher. What do I mean? Well, last month I got this grand idea to completely re-design my entire bedroom (except the paint on the walls.. it's a badass paint job). I mean, I'm going so far as having my dad make me a bed (I designed it, he's making it) along with us making me a new desk. Then, we're getting new carpet (thanks, in part, to the money I'm getting from selling the Camaro.. yes, it's sold(!!) to a friend of mine from college) through the entire house, including my room. Okay, well that's just one part.. an almost completely different room. Well, last week I was thinking about i…

I am currently in the process of gathering members both here and at C&G's rival site to rally against GM in light of their recent PR charade about transitioning the G8 to the Caprice. So many GM enthusiasts have begged and pleaded for Zeta's application in North America to be expanded beyond the new Chevrolet Camaro and yet GM continuously ignores us or, at best, makes promises it actually has no intention of delivering on. There was no way the "New GM' could have moved fast enough to actually determine if there was a business case for a new Chevrolet Caprice or Impala based on the Holden Commodore. GM sold so many enthusiasts and former enthusiasts an outright li…

My son received his first credit card offer in the mail this week. Imagine that! His first credit card -- at only age 6! It's from Citicorp -- one of the biggies. Since I moved within the last 8 months & this had our current, correct address - their records must be somewhat accurate. You can't tell me that they do ANY amount of background checking before sending out credit card offers what-so-ever. As a lender, wouldn't you want to, oh I don't know, check out income, credit report, etc before sending out a credit card offer? How can they say (with a straight face) that they are even halfway-serious about credit card security when they ma…

I'm having the strangest problem with my e-mail, here are the symptoms: - e-mails from friends and family are not showing up at all - I can't get emails through Outlook, but can access my acct through the provider's server - My own test e-mails to myself go through (but not to outlook) - a test e-mail from my provider goes through (but not to Outlook) - Now, here's the strange one. I responded to an e-mail about the jag on Craigslist and the responses from that person make me think scam. But, their e-mails go through to the provider's server! Has my e-mail been hijacked?!!

C&D just did an instrumented test on the new Volvo S90, and I thought this would be a good basis for a 'WWYBI' thread. Link- C&D 2017 Volvo S90 Test The car as tested ran 65K, but starts at 52K. So let's use a range of $52,000-67,000. Rules- 1) Car must be a sedan. 2) Must be a new, on-sale MY 2016 or 2017 model. 3) Must be AT LEAST $52,000 MSRP, but NO MORE THAN $67,000 MSRP.

Go See a F'in Movie if You Want F'in Stunts Wednesday 13th October, 2010 by "black-knight" Advertising. This occupational field has gave us so many great, classic television ads, especially when it came to transportation, be it recreational or personal. Ads, for example, that made us think about . But so many great ads were left on the cutting room floor. That's what I'm sharing with you now, what has to be the best outtake from Ford's era of advertising in the early 1990s. Of all time. Ever. First you'll watch what the route Ford decided to take when they pussied out. Then you'll see the approach that would have been the clear winner. Honestly, I think Fo…

Ok, so this conversation started at work towards the end of the day and continued over dinner and via text message through the night. Some friends and I were talking about ways to make already existing movies better, or at least more interesting. Some of my suggestions: Chuck Norris as Jesus in The Passion of the Christ. He has a beard already. Speaking of The Passion, wouldn't it have been a lot more interesting if M Night Shyamalan had written and directed it? How about Mel Gibson directing Schindler's list or The Sound of Music? There were more but those were the most amusing ones I can remember.

First Day Of Fishing By BV All across the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, people came out on April 15 to celebrate the first day of fishing. Obviously that meant reveilling their homosexuality, but it also meant they had to get ready for this wonderous day. Here, I and my alter-ego... which means just that, BV, will help get you ready... from preparing yourself to finding your spot. After that, I might fill you in on the fishing part, too. First off, you must find a spot to go fishing. You don't want someplace that will attract crowds... You never know what bodily fluids may be floating around in the water. You don't want no gang-bangs. Unless you like that, stay aw…

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The victim has probably forgiven the woman who ran him down in a Northampton crosswalk. The police haven't. Police say a Pittsfield woman has been cited for running down Lord Jesus Christ as he crossed the street in Northampton. Officers responding to Tuesday's incident checked the 50-year-old Belchertown man's ID and discovered that, indeed, Lord Jesus Christ is his legal name. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor facial injuries. Police say 20-year-old Brittany Cantarella was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. show concept: Ed Bayglie (sp?) goes to people's houses and informs people how to be more "green" or just cut down on power usage. i've seen 2 episodes... the new one with bill nye and the one with Tiegs. i think anything is better with bill nye, he and Ed have a rivalry it seems, i found it hilarious. supply and demand... same supply, decrease the demand, decrease price. the economics of being greener is in cosumers' pocket book's interest, for a lot of things, not everything though.

* Anyone remember me!? For various reasons, it's been a LONG time since I've logged in & posted here. BUT, after reconnecting and chatting with Drew a bit, I figured I'd log in & post. Hope that's OK. A lot has happened since I last was here, but I won't bore you. Instead, I'll share a couple of recent things, in case anyone is interested. I finally detailed my car. Big deal, right? For me, this time, it kinda is! When I had my family of MCs, I spent every "automotive season" Saturday (weather permitting) detailing a car. But, when I detailed my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS (which I'd bought late 2016) a few weeks ago, I hadn't det…

It occurred to me today that I never shared any of my pictures from my trip last month, so now I guess would be as good a time as any! Very lucky to visit the Pima Air and Space Museum whose inventory includes a VC-137 like those used by Kennedy as well as Eisenhower's Constellation and Truman's DC-4. Not to mention a Convair B-36 Peacemaker. The Constellation has to be my all-time favorite aircraft so it was nice to finally see one in person. Also paid a visit to the Barry Goldwater memorial park and took in a Suns game.

Coming into the office this AM, I thought about this. Now, today I am moving my office (a swap with a neighbor) to get away from this chick who talks way too much...to others, to me...and needs lots of attention. I need to get my work done. So, I had to take my car to the body shop to get my bumper repaired after being rear-ended awhile back and I went to Enterprise to get my rental car and they had a shiny rental car white Dodge Stratus waiting for me. I casually asked if there were any GM products available and the girl goes "isn't dodge a GM vehicle?" and I just left it at that so they gave me the keys and I took off in my little four-banger. In a way, I'm kinda glad I didn't get a GM car because it would have made me want to trade in my 00 Grand Prix GT so driving the Stratus around made me hate every second of having a rental car. It was weak, it got horrid mileage (I am partially to blame fo…

I need lists of keywords to help promote C&G. This involves typing huge amounts of word combinations. I already have the onset of carpal tunnel. It would be a big help if you guys could type up C&G related words so I could copy/paste them into the site. Anything General Motors related and needs to be at least two words each. For example: Chevy Camaro Chevrolet Camaro Buick Regal Buick Lacrosse Cadillac Escalade Platinum Don't worry about dupes, the software will sort them out. Thanks a bunch and hopefully it will drive more traffic to C&G.

I just read the line in Sixty8's sig that reads: "In fact, did you know a Chevrolet (small block) V8 with no oil in it and no water in it will last about two hours before it disintegrates? We did it twice. The first time it lasted an hour and 15 minutes and the second time it lasted two hours." It reminded me of something my Physics teacher said he learned from an engineer. That a 60s Muscle Car lets off more emissions while not running than a new car does turned on?

Then they're asking her about why this show helps Detroit (read: Big 3) out so much. She responds by saying that it's both an "offensive and defensive strike. They're now seeing that the Chinese are huge competitors and are coming soon. They're going to really have to step their game up if they want to compete with the Chinese automakers." What a…

Here's a picture of the steering wheel I'm looking for: If you happen to be out in a junkyard and bump into a '55/'56 GMC or Chevy truck and that steering wheel pictured above is in good condition, would you remove and purchase it for me? I stumbled over this nice Wiki chart of top sales figures in the US since 1899. It's amazing how nobody was able to touch Ford between 1911 and 1926, and then the 1927 Chevy came in and swooped up top sales and Chevy's first million units in a year. It seems Chevy and Ford duked it out for the top spot between the Great Depression and about 1971, then Chevy entered a first place winning streak until Ford barely edged above in 1988. In 1990, Ford regained first place for another 10 consecutive years. What amazes me is that Pontiac was GM's best selling brand in 2000. Anybody have any idea how this might have happened? I can't think of any major Pontiac debuts in 2000…

Name the car given. It can be any General Motors car from 2000-present, and can be found on NetCarShow.com. The person who correctly guesses the car gets to choose the next car to have others guess, but have the car cropped to give only a preview! If possible, without giving away the car, give a specific detail (s) to separate the car, making it easier, and not so vague. Along with the car, state the year it was officially shown by GM, may it be as a concept or production vehicle. NO SPY SHOTS! DO not post your preview until the person who posted thecar says whether or not it is correct. After a certain amount of guesses, the poster of the previewed car can give a second …

The strangest of thoughts came to me today when I went to pick up my daughter from the bus stop this afternoon. It wasnt at the bus stop per se that this vision and thought popped into my head, but rather at the grocery store parking lot when we stopped to pick up a few items. What I saw is this: A shiny new fiery red Chevy Volt And parked right behind it, was an Acura Integra. Dont know what year it was as miniminal changes were made during its lifetime, I know the front clip was refreshed, and this particular car was of the pre-refreshed front clip...but my memory eludes me to when this happened so that is why I went with 1997. I've had several jerk bosses over the years. One would think that a boss with a very different approach MIGHT be a good thing. Not so in my experience. I do much better with the "in your face, tell-it-like-it-is" bosses. That way, you blow up and get it over with. My jerk boss is a flatliner who, not surprisingly, is passive aggressive. He and I have had our problems. But THIS STORY is NOT about me. I have this annoying, geeky but well-intentioned co-worker that is nearing retirement. He put his vacation days request down on the calendar. It is understood that if no one says anything to you and the schedule makes it onto a spreasheet, you've got the vacation da…

I am starting to nitpick my truck, which usually means another new vehicle purchase is only a few months away. It won't be 2 years old until January 23rd and it has 27k miles. In heavy rains, it leaks. The headliner gets wet at the top of the driver's A-pillar. Also, it suddenly has a bunch of rattles in the doors and underneath. And I fear I am hearing the wear indicator on the front brake pads already. It's going in on Tuesday for a free promotional oil change and a brake inspection. I don't want to sound petty, I mean the truck runs fine, and starts with barely a flick of the key. It does have a couple very minor scuffs from people carelessl…

Guys, Although I love Civil Engineering, I cannot see myself doing it for the rest of my life. Not that I do not like it, it just makes me feel I am being too specific. I am planning to move into Management Consulting. My current firm is a Civil Consulting firm, so the rigors of Consulting are not unfamiliar to me. The reasons for going into Management Consulting are: 1. I want to get experience in a variety of fields and management consultants "advice" people in different industries. 2. I love to travel and do not mind the hectic life of moving from one tent to another while working in the process. 3. One thing that really drove me to it was McKinsey's foray in…

Okay, doesn't look like going with a new small GM car lease will put the wife and I where we want to be financially (damn insurance premiums in NJ). We can continue to keep the '04 Malibu and find a way to afford the three NEW car payments + insurance costs... or we can get rid of the Malibu and find a decent used car for under $7k to hold us for a few years (not getting rid of the SKY, that's for darn sure ). So cruising local dealer's online inventories and autoshopper.com, I've found some interesting cars: 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi - 115k, loaded, $3995 1999 Buick Century Custom - 65K, $6995 1998 Buick LeSabre - 60K, $5888 So what do you think of these cars?…

I don't know how many here have ever seen the movie "Tommy," but I'm sure many have heard The Who song Pinball Wizard. My dad has this movie on VHS and I remember watching it once when I was probably 5 years old. Today I looked up some of the clips on YouTube and it's still as weird as ever. My dad loves this movie though...him and his 70s rock operas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BTj4dKCQc8...ted&search= Also, I don't know how many know of Manfred Mann's Earth Band, but I've always loved this song of theirs and I found a couple clips on YouTube. This song was featured in the movie "Blow" and it's another one in my dad's collection. http://www.youtube.co…

Yesterday I was having some work done at the Ford dealer. A woman, blonde no less, came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other and the mechanic asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there." The mechanic gave the women a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had the hood up and asked, "Is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, it's …

Discussing with some friends lately new vehicles. Many are sticking to the type of vehicle that they currently have now (CUVs, pickups, sedans, etc). So we got on the topic of what vehicle would interest you that is outside of your norm but would be an appropriate daily driver to replace the type of vehicle that you currently own. This is not a "what ultimate vehicle would you choose if money were no issue" scenario. It's a scenario where you don't get the vehicle you prefer; for me that means no pickup or SUV. So I'll start this off. If I were buying a vehicle today outside of a pickup or SUV, I would choose: 1) 2014 Chevrolet Impala - I'm smitten by this new Impa…

Enterprise Rent-A-Car delivered a Saturn Outlook to the dealership shop after the check-engine light appeared and the engine quit running. The problem? Enterprise records showed zero oil changes after 30,000 miles. Brutal results below. As you might expect, going 30,000 miles without an oil change is not a recommended break-in procedure, and as a result the engine oil completely broke down turning into a thick greasy sludge. After finding this mess, technicians contacted Enterprise to see if their records showed any oil changes, which they did not, though it's suspected at some point at least one change was done as the factory oil filter has been replaced. Of course, th…

Our pets come up every now and then. More people here discuss dogs. I love dogs too. I am indifferent to cats for the most part; however, about 1 year ago when I lived in another neighborhood, there was a cat that practically greeted me outside my car when I pulled up from work and then came and hung out in my living room for about 2 or 3 hours before returning to his owner. He was well-fed. He didn't want food. He had a spot on the sofa he liked and sat there and purred.

... in some sort of hoary blue 1960s EuroEconoBox that I've never seen before, using the side mirrors, but there was no steering wheel, just 2 pencil eraser-sized buttons on the console to steer it. They are off-white plastic buttons & one unthreads, forcing me to press on the sharp threaded stud. It hurts my middle fingertip. I made it up the hill nearly to the top when a tiny orange car rounds the corner and smacks into the snowbank on the left. I park on the right side (the road is quite narrow) and jog over to it. Two girls are inside- they do not speak but gesture; one's ankle is twisted & they have no cell phone. They nod for me call for help when a massive …

This guy: (Senor Wolfenstein @ the wheel) ...has now had its lower left fascia mangled by a raccoon strike at 70mph by the people who got it after I did. I know how he feels...the exact same thing happened to me with an R32 last year. Damn near happened with the CC. Apparently I have a thing with VW's and raccoons.

1955 Olds Eighty-Eight Holiday - $8900 (a bit too much, IMO) 1963 Imperial Crown Coupe - $2450 1965 Fleetwood w/35,000 - $7995 1967 Buick LeSabre - $2450 The Buick was the value of the group it seemed. You could tell the Imperial was a Chrysler (bad weatherstripping) and all the awesome electronic gizmos like the push-button transmission scare me on a car this old. In contrast, the Buick had a regular bench, manual windows, manual locks, but air conditioning. Even had the little tissue box holder. I really, really love the LeSabre and the price is quite nice. Just wanted to share.
