Apparently, Dubois is riddled with people who can't properly park a vehicle. Whether this is out of inability or just sheer laziness remains to be seen... This CRV driver just left it parked halfway on the lane, partially in two separate Handicapped spaces. This Explorer driver wasn't satisfied with a single parking spot and clearly needed all four spaces. To be fair, this guy was still in his vehicle... and happened to be a 2015 Tahoe with M plates. The real question is why he was in Dubois, of all places...

It’s a remarkable achievement for the twin-turbo V6 car just a year after its unveiling, and for a race exactly 50 years after the original Ford GT40's historic win at the 1966 running of Le Mans. Ford and Porsche fans, thank Mother Nature for the rain. Today’s two wet qualifying sessions offered few chances for teams to beat their fastest laps from Wednesday’s first qualifying session. What's your favorite model that was a one and done? The rules are: One generation only with no major refreshes. Minor refreshes are allowed. An example of the maximum minor refresh would be something like the Cadillac Catera which got updates front and rear fascias and lights, but otherwise remained unchanged in looks. The Catera was a one generation model. No cheating with sub-models that are based off of some mainstream model (Typhoon, Syclone, GNX are examples) unless that mainstream model was also a One and Done. A nameplate that fits the One and Done criteria, but who's name had been used decades before and brought back will still count…

I like the 3 door quite a bit, but I'm not floored by it like I thought I would be. The 5 door is just down right bland IMO. It seems that the americans can take Opel designs and put the "final touch" on the theme to make it look awesome. For example, both the Sky and the Outlook are MUCH more striking and impressive to look at and even the Aura radiates a certain elegance that the Astra only dreams of and the Vue looks better made and more substantial eventhough I'm not a huge fan of the design. This scares me, because a…

Fashion is the inevitable evolution and refreshment of taste and style in everything from clothing to automobiles, which keeps those things from getting tiresome and stale. Fashion drives innovation for the sake of innovation, and it is generally considered a good thing. On the other hand, fads such as fuzzy dice are as ephemeral and unpredictable as fashion, but in the end are just plain silly. With the benefit of hindsight, it’s generally pretty easy to recognize a fad, but for each of the designs, technologies or accessories below, ther…

Not the uninsured Reuters One in five people in the United States visit an emergency room every year, and most of them have health insurance of some kind, according to a U.S. government survey released on Wednesday. The survey contradicts a common perception that emergency rooms are packed with uninsured people and illegal immigrants. It also rejects some claims that people are using the emergency department for routine care -- just 10 percent of visits were for non-urgent causes. "In 2007, approximately one in five persons in the U.S. population had one or more emergency department visits in a 12-month period," the report from the National Center f…

I got out of my house this morning to discover my car was hit and run. The driver's side of the car was sideswiped from behind, leaving a gash along the rear door, quarter panel, rear bumper, and rear wheel. More worryingly, though, is that the alignment is off; the poor thing now veers right. The Passat has a twist-beam rear axle, and I'm guessing the beam is bent. There really aren't any rear alignment settings for it (I just had the car aligned a few weeks ago, along with new rear shocks). Anyone know if a rear beam can be knocked back to spec, or am I looking at a new axle? I don't have collision insurance coverage on it.

WASHINGTON - A push from Congress and the White House for huge increases in biofuels, such as ethanol, is prompting the oil industry to scale back its plans for refinery expansions. That could keep gasoline prices high, possibly for years to come. With President Bush calling for a 20 percent drop in gasoline use and the Senate now debating legislation for huge increases in ethanol production, oil companies see growing uncertainty about future gasoline demand and little need to expand refineries or build new ones. Oil industry executives no longer believe there will be the demand for gasoline ov…

About a year or so ago I admitted my love (still, after 30 years) for TONKA trucks and told everyone here about Tonka's newest product line - Tonka TOUGHEST Mighty Dump Truck --> Well, to top that, now you may have the opportunity to see this truck in real life: (this pic gives you an idea of how big the real truck is compared to the toy!) Visit Tonka Truck Tour to learn more about this truck, watch a video of how this real, driveable truck was brought to life, and see if it's coming to a Wal-Mart location near you (I may be "sick" one day this week to drive to a location near me!!).

Its October, that means playoff baseball. As much as I hate to admit it, the Cardinals look pretty good. But here is how I see it going: NLDS Cardinals over Padres in 3 (Peavy is done, Padres have no shot) Astros over Braves in 4 (Kyle Farnsworth blows a save or two, just like when he was a Cub) ALDS White Sox over Red Sox in 4 (I never thought I would say that, but the Chi Sox whooped up today) Angels over Yankees in 5 (This one will go the distance, the Angels are the better team) NLCS Astros over Cardinals in 7 (Look at that staff, Petitte has dominated in the second half) ALCS Angels over White Sox in 6 (Sorry, not Chi-towns year) World Series Astros over Angel…

Last night as I was sitting alone and pitiful, enjoying my dinner at a local spot, in walks a pair of folks that made me stare a bit: a little, gray haired with glasses skinflint, 5'2" white dude in his late 50's, with a 5'10" black girl in her 30's, with a Supremes hairdo. Made the rest of the room look boring. Does anyone else enjoy the sport of "people watching"?

Thanksgiving has now passed, but not without some pain. Well, here's what has all happened... First off, it started out bad. My house only has one bathroom and that's for four people. My mom, just like any other women, takes FOREVER. I hade to wait until the very last moment to take a shower, get ready, and all that crap. So I'm being yelled at for it, yet I couldn't get in the bathroom. Okay... I couldn't even shave as I planned to (I let my facial hair grow... shave it every week or so). That and I have to wear what my mom wants me to. In this case, a striped long sleeved button down shirt. Not that there's anything wrong with it but I just don&…

For Release: DECEMBER 9, 2005 Detroit - General Motors has announced today, December 9, that it will acquire Northwest Airlines. GM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner confirmed the purchase plans. Wagoner states: "We are very excited with the prospect of this new alliance." When pressed, Wagoner indicated that it was actually a contractual relationship between Northwest and one of its suppliers that was of particular interest to the Corporation. Although he declined to name the supplier, another GM Executive did. Mark LaNeve, group vice president of GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing indicated that contract with Kimberly-C…

Last night I went to bed pretty excited, knowing I'd be getting up somewhat early to go get my GTO. So I wake up at 7:30, have breakfast, eat, etc., then wait around for a while for my mom to get ready. My dad took my brother to school (I had finals this week so no school today) and was at work waiting for us to come pick him up. Anyways, the dealership is about an hour away and we get there at about 9:45. We sign all the papers and whatnot, and then we were looking into extended warranties, and we bought one, but the guy messed up and told us it was 6 days from today when it was actually 6 days from the first sale date. He caught his mistake before he had us sign the pap…

Dear Internal Revenue Service: Enclosed you will find my 2005 tax return showing that I owe $3,407.00 in taxes. Please note the attached article from the USA Today newspaper; dated 12 November, wherein you will see the Pentagon (Department of Defense) is paying $171.50 per hammer and NASA has paid $600.00 per toilet seat. I am enclosing four (4) toilet seats (valued @ $2,400) and six (6) hammers valued @ $1,029), which I secured at Home Depot, bringing my total remittance to $3,429.00. Please apply the overpayment of $22.00 to the "Presidential Election Fund," as noted on my return. You can do this inexpensively by sending them one (1) 1.5" Phillips Head screw (se…

as prices are getting crazy around here.... Going to do a bit of stocking up on food (Water, stuff like that) because what used to be 2.49 for a case of water is now 3.99 in just a matter of a month or so...seems like everything is going up quick! I'm starting repairing (or updating) the cars earlier to save a few bucks, and finish preparing for a rough rest of the year's weather. Even stocking up on oil...can;t beat a synthetic at 3.38/qt.... Have you guys adjusted your habits as well?

PA wants to follow in California's foot steps and require stricter laws on emissions. I say nay. It's not like we have a crap load of cars here most of this state is populated by people on buggies. WTF? "The cost of the vehicle might go up, but it will be benefical at the gas pump." BullSh*t! "We would have to make the cars smaller, with less horsepower. The more expensive cars would be that much harder to sell." Exactly I understand highly populated states should work on this, but we aint one of them. The most of the polution would be from the major cities or someone from Jersey. And as far as cost. I find it interested that there are no mentions as to what ex…

The sun has unleashed a blast in Earth's direction, and that should cause brighter-than-normal auroral displays this weekend. Skywatchers won't be the only ones monitoring the storm: The folks in charge of power grids and orbiting satellites will also be on guard to make sure the disturbance in the (geomagnetic) force won't be disruptive. Word of today's blast, technically known as a coronal mass ejection or CME, comes via SpaceWeather.com's Tony Phillips. NASA says the outburst sparked an M3.2-class solar flare, as well as a stream of electrically charged particles that is due to interact with Earth's magnetic field on Saturday. "Viewers can be on the lookout for increa…

Haven't had a good food thread in a while. I was reading the paper the other day and came across a recipe for deep dish pizza, which caught my eye because, as a native Chicagoan, I hold deep dish pizza to a very high standard and haven't had anything good around here. I decided to make it this morning even though I didn't have all of the proper equipment, like a mixer with a dough hook so I had to spend the better part of an hour playing with the dough, but it was totally worth it. I didn't do anything fancy with the innards since I was mainly concerned with getting the crust right. In the end it turned out great, would have been better if I had been more concerned wi…

  96. If you remember a month or so ago my friend's (younger) sister was car shopping. This is the one who's dad is anti-American when it comes to cars. When she got the car finally...within a week she started bashing American cars and that that Civic was the greatest. Well tofday he told me she was on her way to work, and was near Boston...when the car wouldn't accelerate above 20 mph! It's in some shop near wheerever it was left and will cost $400 or so to fix. My friend doesn't know what's wrong with it yet...but he laughed pretty hard (serves her right for being so bias). Keep in mind that she paid 8 grand for this car...and at the time it was missing the wiper motors…

OK, so I go to one of the chain bookstores and am sitting in the cafe peacefully looking at travel books. This NERD, mid 40s or more, who has "the day planner" sits next to me and starts chatting me up. The approach is all too familiar. I cut him off coolly. Soon enough, this kid sits down with him (obviously pre-arranged) and starts doing the usual pitch, including the tag line "the only way to make money is to trade time for..." or something like that. (I have been approached at least 25 times at B&N, Borders, Starbucks or the gym with a multi-level come on and have heard this over the last 10 years or so). I got up to throw away my cup and told him off loud en…

As the title says, this is mostly hypothetical... as in, if by some rare streak of luck I am able to afford to purchase a decent vehicle. Basically, I'm looking for suggestions/ideas/opinions. I want something that's reliable, economical, easy to live with, and fun. To start, I want suggestions that hold true. Anyone can make a case in favor of a, say... Sunfire or Blazer... Doesn't mean they're worthy of purchasing. Reputations beyond what a few GM enthusiasts think should be taken into consideration. The same goes for any manufacturer. I don't want any 'blinded by bias' suggestions. Personal experience is another thing. It's probably the most telling and most diverse…

We're probably going to replace the tires on the TB, and I've been looking through reviews, but it seems everything has about as many good reviews as bad reviews. Anyone have any suggestions? Want good handling in all conditions (obviously), smooth and quiet. It seems the Goodyear Fortera TripleTreds are genuinely liked by most everyone, but they're rather pricey.
