Nissan/Renault Alliance: GM Outgoing, FMC Incoming At least, it looks that way: Carlos Ghosn's Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. may start talks with Ford Motor Co. as prospects fade for a link with General Motors Corp., two people with knowledge of the discussions said. Executives from the Renault-Nissan team and Ford have been in touch in the past month about exploring a possible link, according to the people, who asked not to be named because the proceedings are private. William Clay Ford Jr. initially called Ghosn in July to discuss a partnership if the GM-Ghosn talks led nowhere, three people familiar with the matter said last month. Read "Ford, Ghosn May Talk …

I don't know if anyone else does this, but I'm pretty observant when watching movies...especially when it comes to filming locations. Tonight I was watching Halloween I. The movie is supposed to take place in a fictional town called Haddonfield, Illinois. Yet two scenes are shot at different schools, both the open-air type you see in places like California where there is a mild climate. That would never fly in Illinois during the middle of the winter. Second, in the scene where the doctor is headed to Haddonfield, you can see these gigantic mountains in the background. News flash: Illinois doesn't have mountains! Same thing with Stephen King's "The Stand." There …

  5. SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea boasted of being a "proud nuclear power" and threatened Monday to harm the U.S. if attacked as tensions mounted over a possible crackdown on exports of suspected missile parts from the North. President Barack Obama said the U.S. is ready to cope with "any contingencies" involving North Korea and vowed not to "reward belligerence and provocation." South Korea's YTN news network reported Sunday that a U.S. Navy destroyer tailing a North Korean ship suspected of carrying missiles and related parts was headed toward Myanmar in what could be the first test of new U.N. sanctions against the North over its recent nuclear test. The sanctions…

SEOUL, South Korea — Punching their fists into the air and shouting "Let's crush them!" some 100,000 North Koreans packed Pyongyang's main square Thursday for an anti-U.S. rally as the communist regime promised a "fire shower of nuclear retaliation" for any American-led attack. Several demonstrators held up a placard depicting a pair of hands smashing a missile with "U.S." written on it, according to footage taken by APTN in Pyongyang on the anniversary of the day North Korean troops charged southward, sparking the three-year Korean War in 1950. North Korean troops will respond to any sanctions or U.S. provocations with "an annihilating blow," one senior official vowe…

On a cold, icy road the other day, going downhill in the freezing rain and slowing down to a stop at a red light the X-Terra in front of me stopped very abruptly. I was about two car length's behind the truck in my Datsun & as I slid to a stop on a sheet of ice I bumped the X-Earth's trailer hitch with my little Maxima's headlight/blinker & cut the top of the matte black bumper cover. I was pissed at myself, first off I was on the clock so I HAD to get to a delivery, and second despite absolutely no damage to her cast iron trailer hitch my Datsun had…

I just hate it when I'm trucking along in my sneakers and *KABLAMMO* I walk into a single strand (or several) of those pesky tiny restraints, face-first, then I thrash around, clutching at them with my hands, trying to clear my path. If anyone's peeking out their window they must think I'm bat$h! crazy. Am I the only one this happens to?

According to Iran’s President, Mr. Ahmadinejad, homosexuality doesn’t exist in Iran – whatsoever. He’d also like more ‘substantial’ evidence that the holocaust occurred. It seems that the disappearance of millions of people isn’t enough to appease his warped perception of history. Ahmadinejad made both claims today at Columbia University, where his comments regarding homosexuality in Iran were met with open laughter. Glad I looked into this.

This is the first time I've been without a Mopar in the garage since Nixon was president. I'm serious! My wife got a new job where she is able to commute via bus and I've been commuting via bus for a long time. Our high-school daughter gets to/from school via the bus as well and she won't be able to drive, unless some advanced surgery comes along to fix her eyesight (she's legally blind). We decided we don't need two cars and my wife didn't like driving the Neon (she claims she sat too low in it). Wow...we only have one car--and it's a GM!

(Reuters) - Hostess Brands Inc, the bankrupt maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, has sought a U.S. court's permission to go out of business after failing to get wage and benefit cuts from thousands of its striking bakery workers. Hostess, which has about $2.5 billion in sales from a long list of snack cakes and breads, filed the request with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York early Friday morning. The Irving, Texas-based company said the liquidation would mean that most of its 18,500 employees would lose their jobs. Ok, the reverse lights on my Crapalier don't work. And since they are BOTH out, chances are its not a light bulb issue, so that leads to electrical. I don't think the fuse is blown as the fuse I pulled that was marked for reverse lamps was also powering something else that DID work. It was suggested by Valvoline mechanic that it may be something in the shifter lever, as I drive a manual. Anyone have any idea? I'm not TOO worried about it, as I live in the city and the streets and parking lots are lit fairly well, but I'd like to get this fixed because I don't like to have anything on my car NOT working.

Our plane was a six-seater twin engine Cessna and there was so much ice building up on the wings that we started losing some airspeed as we approached Bismarck. Most of the time we had to stay above 12,000 feet to avoid the ice, which is pretty tough on your body when you're in a small plane that doesn't have cabin pressure. The crosswinds were fierce. I love flying and never get scared, but I was kinda nervous as we were landing. Our poor little plane was being tossed around like a toy. We did our business in Bismarck,…

As I waited to turn left off Route 58 onto Barrington Rd, the vehicle went past ... and I looked at the rear license plate ... and noticed that it was a generic IL plate that had "X35" as the first 3 characters. Wonder how THAT got past the IL sensors...?!! Cort | 35swm | "Mr Monte Carlo"."Mr Road Trip" | pig valve.pacemaker ...RT 66 = Sept 5-16, '09 WRMN…

It reads "2008 Saturn Astra Europeans have loved it for years! [ picture of silver car ] Now it's our turn. Autobahn worthy handling, brash Euro styling. 32 MPG Starting at $15,495." Not a bad ad. It's for "Saturn of Hartford" and "Saturn of Berlin."

Daylight hours grow short, but if we're quick with a spotlight, maybe we can get a good Spotters thread going this month. So... spot away, right here!

Beautiful weather this weekend...went out to see more covered bridges, visit a couple of my favorite beaches up in Ashtabula County (far NE Ohio). Saw this sharp Challenger Scat Pack at one of the bridges..great rumbly sound...

Was in the drive thru at Dunkin Donuts this morning, behind a Ford Ecosport. Studying the rear, I realized the portion of the right taillight on the rear door has a door handle built into it... the rear door is side hinged like the old Rav4 on these, i think. But behind me was a more interesting car--a maroon w/ white top early 80s Olds 98 4dr...appeared solid.

Ya, it's the 16th already, but I had a boatload of sightings today. • white Lamborghini Huracan, slogging thru US Rt 1 traffic. • red Holden Commodore sedan with 'SAVE6MT' plate, slogging thru US Rt 1 traffic. • pale yellow '55 Cadillac hardtop coupe & white '60 Buick Electra 225 convert, sitting in rear of trucking yard looking forgotten. Must investigate further. • '62 Olds Cutlass convertible, 215 V8, buckets, floor shift auto, red w/ red interior, owned by customer & garage stored. 1 family owned, $3500 very good shape, no rust. • '54 Bentley 4-dr sedan, cream & burgandy, solid original, looked like a 1940 US vehicle, straight 6. Ugly. • This;…

Saw a Chevy Bolt for the first time today, a white one at an intersection..it had gear on the roof that looked like autonomous vehicle testing gear (spinny things like I saw on the Uber Fusion autonomous car I saw a couple months ago).

Anybody get the latest Motor Trend? Anybody lke that Impala rendering, I think it is ugly! Change it a little bit (less computer-animation-graphic like), then it will be good. Also, in one of the many car adertisements, pages 22-23 is for the 07 MDX. Gorgeous shot!

Let's try to take the political discourse up a notch in this thread, shall we? Forgetting the personalities and parties involved, what do you want to see/expect from, our next president and congress? Issues only, please.

  88. This car is killing me.... This is why you should never help family out (by buying one of the cars)... I took it to the dealership and found some stuff out: - My slow to shift trans (only when cold) is common on the year of my Balt for some reason (2006) - That even though the brakes were strange (pedal), they were fine. Part that surprised the heck out of me: all FOUR steelies are bent- two pretty good. Now, the ride issue it has I thought was due to the fact that it is due for tires, but I wasn't expecting that....how does that happen, anyways? I didn't realize that there was that many potholes around here... Now I expected a few issues...but wow, this is…

...I don't go to Autozone..... To save money (just on the Balt), I've been considering going from Mobil 1 to a synthetic blend oil. At least to me, I have not got the same benefit like I got with the Cav...(Granted, the Cobalt has been on Quaker State dino until the last oil change, which was Mobil 1.) Anyways, AZ has a decent deal, 5 qts of Valvoline Durablend and a Bocsh oil filter for 20 bucks. I wanted to see if my filter was included (since it tends to be a bit more) The guy asked me what I was running now. Mobil 1, of course. Then the guy proceeds to tell me that once I use a full synthetic, I cannot go back, or the car will blow up. Then, he decides to…

A used one, anyway - I haven't figured up savings and incentives on new vehicles. According to this article, the resale value of a Chevy Tahoe has dropped by 17% in the last year. Assuming the for-sale price of a used has dropped a similar amount, that extra money buys a lot of gas. A used Tahoe that was $40K last year, according to those numbers, would now cost $33,200. Let's compare that number to purchasing a Lexus RX400h. They're currently selling used for what a Tahoe would have cost last year, about $40K. The Tahoe gets about 17 combined city/highway MPG. The Lexus, 29 MPG combined. Let's say gas remains stable at $4.29/gal (a big assumption, I know). If you d…

How many of you predict mass carnage on the highways this winter now that a lot of people left their SUV's and pick-ups with the crusher in exchange for lighter, front-wheel drive compacts that don't fare as well on snowy and ice covered highways? Also, how many of you predict that a lot of the buyers of the very same compacts will be buying a new truck this winter?

Well guys, I think I told all of you about where I work. I work for an auto parts company, in fact its CarQuest. The particular store that I work at serves one of the two ambulance companies that operate from where I live. The ambulance company that my store serves has one particular ambulance that really hits a special place with me. Its called Angel One, and its a NeoNatal Transport ambulance. Its one of only two I think in the state and one of only a few in the nation that is specialized in newborn and baby transport. Anyway, my ambulance company gives me a call for a set of brake pads, front and rear, on a Ford E450, no big deal, they've got five of them, and an…
