So our 1999 Suburban isn't going to work for us, for different reasons. With that, I've told my wife it's going up for sale, and her next vehicle HAS to be under warranty. Here is our dilemma. The vehicle must carry 4 kids and 2 adults comfortably for long road trips, be able to accommodate a stroller behind the 3rd seat with a few bags of groceries, be under warranty for at least 12,000 to 15,000 miles, have the typical equipment (A/C, PW, PL, Cruise, etc) and cost under $18,000. GM's options; CSVs - Ugly, nice interior, decent ride, but just ugly Rendezvous – Just not enough space behind the 3rd row Trailblazer EXT / Envoy EXT – Just a little bit too exp…

Something I said in another thread made me want to start this thread. A twist on an old game, pick 5 C&Gers you would like to hang out with for a few hours. Its like that "Name 5 people in history you would like to have dinner with" question, but you cannot answer Jesus because I haven't registered that screen name....yet. Anyway, I said in another thread that 60% of my 5 would be gay, so here they are in no particular order: Flybrian sNOSage BV 'blu CD/BP Seems like it would be a good, or at least interesting time. So who are yours? They dont have to be your 5 favorite posters, just a group of 5 that you think would be interesting to get together an…

Was in Autozone the other day (>"You want it, you need it, we can't find it, we don't have it"<) and their magazine rack (!) had a rag with cars on 30" rims. There was a gold late '70s Impala on the cover with these... wagon wheels and 6 big chromed trumpet horns under the front bumper in a cluster, probably providing a 'cow catcher' function to nudge pedestrians and..... cows out of the way. I actually had to pick up the rag to see if it was pics of real cars or well-detailed scale models. They were real alright. Couldn't find anything better than this on the net, but just so you all are on top of things: 20"s (and 22"s and 24"s) are so 3 seconds ago.

How reliable is an Oldsmobile 88 Royale from 1994? I believe it has the 3.8L. The car has 170,000kms and it is in excellent condition. There is not much rust or any rust at all. My grandparents' friend from church is selling it for about $2000 or so. Yes they are over 60 lol.

Hmm......this is interesting... My friends ( who would love to set the wagon on fire on roll ot down a hill ) seem to be car hunting for me, though I'm not too sure why....for a new beater. So far, they have found a few... 95 civic 4dr, 105k, auto, almost 90% highway, about 1100 bucks... 96 Dodge Neon 4dr, 86k, 900 bucks..... 95 Plymouth Neon (we had one on these! ) 4dr, 92k, needs a starter, 700 bucks o/b/o.. Worth looking at any of these? I'm not exactly in any rush to rid myself of the ol' wagon (though it is going to need a bit of work soon) Though I'm afraid a door might rust off......

I thought this would be a great topic. Not preaching or anything, this is just a place to tell everyone of the things you bought today or any day in the future, made in the USA. Tonight, I bought a metal bed frame. On the side of the box, it says MADE IN USA. So, I just thought I would start that out. Who's next?

So, it's no secret that I tend to have... cravings for certain cars at certain times. I was once wanted a Fiero and nothing else. Then I was stuck on 240SX's. Then came Miatas. However, those were all similar in that they were sporty and small. But lately... namely since I've bought my Millenia, I've been getting into mid to large sized luxury sedans. You could say I just love so many different cars (and obviously don't have a fit whether they're domestic or not). But this is turning into what my next purchase may be. It's been obvious that I'm more than bored with my Milly. Its reliable, but due to the mileage, its not perfect. There's alot that needs to be done... fro…

Edmunds Evaluation: Ford Expedition v. Chevy Tahoe While the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe LT is a nice piece, with a much appreciated dashboard makeover and stout towing performance, the lack of a stowable, adult-friendly third-row seat and a higher price caused it to trail behind its arch-nemesis when the results were tallied. And even though this is an all-new truck, important subsurface chunks of it feel outdated. Yes, the unanimous judges' decision went to Ford's 2007 Expedition Limited, with its well-sorted steering and handling, controlled ride, very good towing performance and an adult-sized third-row seat that, importantly, folds flat into the floor. And with a sticke…

2007 IIHS Subcompact Crash Test Results Subcompact cars, an increasingly popular choice among drivers, fared poorly in new crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Not surprisingly, the small cars did especially poorly in crashes with large SUVs and trucks, according to results released today. But deaths in small cars also were higher in single-vehicle crashes, compared to larger vehicles. The only small vehicle to get good safety marks across the board was the subcompact Nissan Versa, which is slightly larger than competing mini or B-car vehicles, but is marketed alongside the others. Five of the seven cars tested by the insurance instit…

The order is (upper left to lower right) January through December. The calendar itself will be painted on satin or matte finish paper that is durable and high-quality yet easy to write on. Ok get this I drove my new truck over to get my gf and her mom wanted to see it. So then her ignorant sister that I can't stand comes out and looks at it. Well then my gf tells me later she said my truck is ugly and that she is gonna use her truck and pull me around with it!!! What makes this even more funny is she has a TOYOTA Carolla and her truck is a 2005 Ford F-150. Makes sense it would be someone that drives a TOYOTA to run their mouth. By the way her Toyota was sideswiped in a hit in run in front of her house and was very close to being totalled. I told my gf she should have had me put my truck in 4 Wheel drive and run over top of it and finish it off the ugly piec…

What are you adding under the Christmas tree this year? I'm getting the movie "Step Up" for my mom and sister. They were hard once again this year and only wanted this or that... so I also got my mom a sweater and my little sister a hair straightener. My mom, sister, and I agreed to all go in and buy my dad a gun, so we're going to give him a dollar store toy gun for under the tree then tell him to pick out the one he wants and we'll pay for it. I agreed to pay for half of it, my mom and sister are taking the rest of the "hit." He's been looking at different guns to replace his for a long while now, so I think it's finally time. Today marks the five year Anniversary of me & Marcia's first date. What a long, exciting, strange trip it has been. Since the major SNAFU this past Sept. we have been doing better than ever & today we're going to celebrate all the wonderful products of our relationship. Sofia being the greatest natrually. Our empathy towards eachother & the communication have improved imenselly and I have to say that I was wrong about couple's counceling, it can do a world of good in some cases. I have been very happy with the direction of my life as of late which is a pleasant change since the depresion and apathy I was feeling a few months ago.

OK, so mom is possibly looking for a new car (her current '93 Maxima is starting to break down on a regular basis, and repairs aren't cheap), and was looking at her replacement options. She doesn't have much to spend - about $7K. She's always driven domestics until this Maxima, and she's liked the way this car drove, if not the reliability. She'd been contemplating an older Camry or Accord, but wasn't overly impressed with either one. She'd even considered a RAV4 or a CR-V, but doesn't necessarily need an SUV and prefers a car with a little more oomph. I'd like to recommend a Regal to her. The pushrod engines should satisfy her lead foot well enough (esp. if I c…

This is interesting: "Robert Pastor, a leading intellectual force in the move to create an EU-style North American Community, told WND he believes a new 9/11 crisis could be the catalyst to merge the U.S., Mexico and Canada. "Pastor, a professor at American University, says that in such a case the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP – launched in 2005 by the heads of the three countries at a summit in Waco, Texas – could be developed into a continental union, complete with a new currency, the amero, that would replace the U.S. dollar just as the euro has replaced the national currencies of Europe. Pastor was asked what North American leaders wo…

I have to say it, as odd as it is for me to admit this, but I really do like the Saturn ION. But, in Red Line Quad Coupe form only. When I went to Ft. Wayne to the Saturn dealership and gave them my number to contact me for when the Astra arrives, I sat in one. Know what? I loved the center mounted gauge cluster and the wonderful Recaro bucket seats up front. The interior plastics don't feel harsh and cheap now, and have nice graining. The dash plastics in the ION feel better than those in the Cobalt. They don't sound hollow, and feel semirubberized. The steering wheel could be adjusted for any position and not block the guages, and, of course, I loved the amber…

So I was driving down the road and my turn is coming up, so I put on my blinker to turn left. This girl (I doubt she was any older than 16) is in the opposite lane that I'm about to turn into, also wanting to turn left. She has a stopsign, and I don't. So I begin to turn left, and low and behold she begins to pull forward right as I begin to turn. I see this, and honk and slow down. Meanwhile she gives me the "what the hell are you doing?" pose with her two hands up in the air while I mouth some less than nice words. So, luckily by honking she actually stopped what she was doing (but didn't realize she was in the wrong, dumb bitch) and I didn't join the ever-growing group…

Picture your self now driving in a 94 Silverado with a 350 going down a curvy road at about 55mph your exhaust gets really loud and it sounds sweet. Then a Exhaust mount breaks and sparks start flying out from out of the back of your car. About 2 seconds later it rips off and barrels down the road. The guy following you sees that a exhaust is coming towards him and he swerves out of the way then drives into the ditch. I think "Oh F*ck" shut my lights off and floor it. I park my car at my work place since it was down the road and drive back with the Beater ghetto work truck. It took less than 15 minutes to do this. I pull over as the "good samaritan" and Ask "what happened…

I saw this trade-in sitting behind my local Chevrolet dealer and I decided to check it out. It is fully loaded, with the supercharger, auto transmission with normal or perform shift and it is As Is. It doesn't look to have any rust on the body and the paint is in good condition except for some normal chipping. The seats aren't ripped as they are leather and tend to in older GMs. They are selling it for $900 and it has only 209,000kms which is about 127,000 miles. What do you think? Should I go for it? My dad really likes it as well but we need to make sure how it would be on insurance. It will be more expensive because of the supercharger. It is black on beige, has CD and…

ACURA UNVEILS NEW RDX RALLY EDITION "Consumption is the key," says Colliver December 12, 2006 -- TORRANCE, Calif. -- Acura takes center stage again by unveiling a prototype of the RDX Rally, a high-consumption variant of its RDX small crossover. "The RDX Rally is Acura's most serious attempt at racing yet," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "With the introduction of this revolutionary new rally vehicle, we not only borrow from the legendary racing heritage of the NSX but completely ignore it by going offroad with a crossover SUV." Similar to the RDX introduced several months ago and currently on sale, the RDX Rally brings offroad features to the …

As it was, I took a few seconds to stare into her mirror and use every expletive I could think of, remembering to mouth each one carefully in case she could read lips. What the hell is wrong with people that the simple concept of looking where you intend to back-up before doing so escapes them?

Yup, the Colorado has been recalled for a potentially faulty brake light switch at the pedal. I got the letter yesterday. Affected vehicles will either have inoperative brake lights, or "always on" brake lights. Cruise control will also be inoperative because the circuit runs through that switch. I haven't had a problem with my truck, but I'll still take it in to have it done. It will be 3 years old end of next month, it's a first-year model and this is the first recall notice I've gotten for it. I'd say that's not a bad record, comparatively. I can only hope the new truck is as good. And thanks again, Mr. Fly, for the heads up a while back.

Let's say you have 35k to spend on a "fun" car. Not a practical, logical, useful car - one that's strictly for fun. Here are the conditions: 1) has to be a one-owner car 2) new cars not eligible 3) must have very, very, low miles for the year 4) must be collectible or potentially collectible 5) must be domestic What would you buy?

Just watched the first few episodes of DEXTER on OnDemand. Boy am I hooked to this show. Not often do I get sucked into a TV show. I've actually always considered people who are addicted to television to be sad. I like to LIVE life, not just experience life vicariously through a two-dimensional media. That being said I love this show. It's such an awsome premise to have a dark hero "serial-killer-killer" or perhaps it's more like "serial-serial-killer" or is it "serial-killer-killing-serial-killer"? Thoughts? Other fans of the show?

I just asked myself this question dealing with a client today. ARRRGGGHHH. I once posted a thread about rude customers. (I had one contractor/client go for my jugular last spring because of a few things I didn't pick up on a floor plan after our firm went through a mutiny - 15 % of the staff walked out in 1 day - and a lot of us were scrambling to keep everything in check). I would have gone off on him but I kept cool thinking: braces to be paid for with cafeteria plan - check, vesting schedule for 401 K is higher in April - check...you get the idea. Today, I would tell him to 'eff off. This is a different client I'm talking about now. Our projects with this clie…

No more trans fats in NY has been approved by the Board of Health. Fat's All Folks Canola and other oils are going to be used instead now. Someone brought up an intersting point to me earlier regarding diabetics... Canola is a no-no...I havent really looked into it but diabetics are not supposed to consume canola because it is transformed into gluccose... Are we trading heart disease for diabetes? 6 or half dozen of the other??? Or more importantly- am I going to have to go to Jersey to get a decent french fry?? Dont laugh...you might be next.

It is a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier sedan. 2.2L 4 cylinder with the 4-speed auto. It has 235,000kms which is about 183,000 miles I believe. The transmission has been rebuilt, the car has had two owners and was bought in my hometown and driven there. It was used as a commuter car to Toronto everyday which is about 90kms one way. The car is in very good running condition, has been e-tested. I dont think the radio works but I wanted to get a new one anyways because I need a CD player. The car does have some body rust but it is minor (surface rust) under the gas tank and on both rear quarter panels. The rockers are also getting a bit rusty but everything else seems solid. They ev…

We've been all over various forms of hard rock, but we all have soft sides somewhere in our evil little hearts, right? As much as I listen to some of the hardest rock out there, I also love a good emotionally driven slow song, rock or otherwise. What about you? Right now, I am loving this song. It's one of the best I've heard.

My Firefox has been a bitch lately. It's slower than usual and it even froze up on me earlier today. While Im not ruling this out, I highly doubt it's a virus or spyware as I'm not going to any irregular sites, just the same ones that I never had problems with even when I used IE. Now, not long ago, I did make it so I could watch videos and listen to music, but just for Youtube and Myspace. I just had some plugin installed that Mozilla's website suggested. I don't think it would have this affect on Firefox... but knowing my backwords working PC, I wouldn't doubt it. Otherwise, I don't know what could be causing Firefox to run so slow. I can't even use IE anymore which is …

My '95 Olds 88 is getting to the point where its not only embarassing to be seen in, but miserable to drive. I need to find a good used car. I've decided to get either an Olds Alero or Dodge Intrepid. Anybody have any input on potential mechanical problems that are common with either of them or anything else I should look out for while searching?

I started thinking the other day, "What would the American auto industry be like today if Chrysler hadn't bought American Motors way back in '87?" Nowadays, the American economy could probably benefit from having a fourth automaker. Obviously AMC was in some deep crap twenty years ago, but as I've read, some analysts believe that the company would have turned itself around had it not been sold to Chrysler. The company had to continuously innovate to compete with the Big Three, plus they had Jeep...so what do you guys think would have happened to it by now?

Just about 2 years ago I bought an HP Photosmart945 digital camera (about $500). It has been used lightly and always kept in its original styrofoam packaging. Well, a few weeks ago it just decided to stop working. So, I went through all of the troubleshooting procedures and ran the camera's own diagnostic tests all to no avail. I then went online and tried all of the HP suggestions there - no dice. Then, I go online with an HP tech in a live chat - we try everything without luck. Now, after investing about 3 hours of my day on this, the result is: 1) it's out of warranty 2) HP doesn't repair their cameras 3) my only options are an "upgrade" from HP of my choice of severa…
