It got me. Again. Only this time, it involved my mom’s Venture. We were taking one of the Company’s cargo vans up to the local Chevy/Buick/Pontiac/GMC/Isuzu/Mitsubishi dealer to get a recall on the power steering pump taken care of. So, after dropping off the Express van, my mom, dad, little cousin who’s now living with us (a whole different story on its own), and I pile into our Venture to head home. I turn the key and it sort of sputters. The engine doesn’t turn over. I figured maybe I didn’t turn the key hard enough, so I try again. Same thing...the engine sputters, but nothing. The radio comes on, but the time gets reset to 12:00 each time. It’s then I realize that my…

I just looked out my front window and there was a wild rabbit struggling to drag its hind quarters across the street toward my yard. Seeing how vulnerable the little guy was on the asphalt, I put on some shorts and gloves and went out. He was trying to get away as best he could, but his energy level was low, and after a few pathetic attempts to jump onto the curb, I grabbed him, and as he peed himself, I carried him to my back yard and left him there. It will take a miracle for him to survive long-term with natural predators about (our houses back to a corn field), but I hope his scared little face lives to see more sunrises. Godspeed, little bunny.

Well I've come to the conclusion that I may need to sell my Riviera. The car is having one problem after naother due to the fact I cannot afford to fix it right now. last night my service engine light came on, and when I hooked up my scanner it pulled 6 codes. the main one is a missfire on cylinder 6. I recently had a miss and had a coil pack and spark plug replaced about a month and a half ago. Now another coil pack seems to have gone. I also need brakes relaly bad and tires. The reason I cannot have the work done is because I've been out of work for 3 months now, and can't contiue to dump my limited funds into it any longer. It is a 1995 Riviera with 91,xxx mile…

Okay, so here's the deal. My father and I have been watching NHRA drag racing on television for about as long as I can remember. I was over his house tonight and we were watching a short half-hour show that featured a few old races from a national event in the early 80's. After the show was over, my father started saying how cool it would be if he were able to buy old races on DVD. So when I got home, I searched for such DVDs online and, just as I suspected, there was virtually nothing to be found. So now it's up to me to find them in whatever format they may be in and put them on DVD. So for any of you fans out there that remember the days of TNN, American Sports Cavalca…

[source: Wall Street Journal] 'Transformers' Sequel Opens Strong By KEVIN KINGSBURY "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" sold $120.1 million in tickets on Wednesday, with the U.S. total of $60.6 setting an record for movies debuting on that day -- and the second best one-day total overall. The domestic take, more than analysts were expecting, sets the stage for the sequel to top the $319 million the first film in the series generated in 2007 and $708 million overall. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" hit theaters overnight, selling out midnight shows in cities around the country. The action thriller is considere…

Well, it's time to roll up the sleeves, scout out the few places I've identified I would live and go look for a job (since I finished this night time degree just before the summer). Monday, I leave for Atlanta and Florida via plane. If I get the vibe and it's a go, I was thinking of taking my car down first (since that's the diciest) and then move myself down and job hunt (can't do that from Portland). Ok, so, what about the car...my Regal 3800 coupe some of you like to rag on? At 238,000 miles, I'm thinking of bringing her, or actually, having her cart my ass down to Atlanta. New stuff (within the last year to 6 months): all brakes, all tires, all struts, spark plug…

Most of us no doubt have a collection of tools they use for their projects, be they automotive or otherwise. The question is: do you let them get dirty or do you try to keep them clean, and when they do get dirty to you clean them or not? I just bought a new tool, a Black and Decker Tri-Ratchet...which is awesome. I plan to keep it clean like all of my tools. I hate dirty tools, because then you get your hands dirty when you go to use a dirty tool, thereby getting other tools and anything else you touch dirty. I don't mind getting dirty, but I like my tools to look clean and new...maybe I'm just weird like that? My friend is the same way though. Neither of our fathers…

Last Thursday night/Friday morning a thunderstorm rolled through Fargo. One of the loudest thunderstorms I have ever been in the middle of. The thunder was actually shaking the house and the lightning was non-stop. Very odd for this time of year as well as it was only like 60 that day and in the mid 50s when this storm rolled through. The storm dropped hail all the way through town, but the worst part was in the southern end of town. It dropped golf ball size hail throughout most of southern Fargo, and baseball size hail in a few places. Anyway, it happened to hit all the dealerships in town with big enough hail that they received damage. Including the Cadillac dea…

I found the perfect car to replace your Olds. A 1007 Mitsubishi Galant, $99/month. Thats less than what you pay for repairs. I can look into it and get terms of the lease (I'm assuming its either a massive amount up front or insanely low mileage) if you're interested. You can be one of the few, the proud, the Galantists.

With the Cobalt's last payment nearing soon....I've been doing the usually "eyeballing" of cars... I plan to somehow hold out on a new car for a little while (I still want to see the newer models) Anyways, I've had a few friends pick up some late model SUVs " do them up"....The most recent bud picked an 02 Blazer in good shape, and is prepping it for his family. He is along the same line of thinking as I.....a family truck for trips and such, not a DD. I posted this idea a while back with a tahoe/burb.....but the ones I looked at had been pretty much rusted away at the prices they wanted for them... I nosed around, and seen some pretty decent deals on Blazers, early …

First big cookout of the year is going on as I type. Hamburgers on the grill, cold beer and other assorted beverages in the cooler, and a nice little fire going in my newly built (literally started yesterday and finished today) fire pit. Marshmallows are being roasted, s'mores are being made. The only way the night could be more perfect is if it were lit by fireflys.

I'm interested in some photo editing software, but I'm not sure which program to get. Here's what I want: *must be relatively easy to pick up *can not cost over $120, $150 at the most *allow me to enter chopping competitions and create sigs *and be reliable (i.e. does not crash frequently or close by itself) I'm looking at the Adobe Photo Shop Elements 4.0, since it's reasonably priced ($79.98 at Target), but Corel Photo something-or-another Version X looked like a good bet, too. Any suggestions?

My idea of Good may be different than your idea of good. the US ideal of "good" is likely different than that of a communist state. So what makes good, good? who is to say that either of us are right? maybe we are both right, but then if we are both right then there is no "right" answer meaning we can never improve society because ethics is relative. whats your ideas? ::edit:: for the purposes of this thread don't list anything from the Bible of "proof" of good, feel free to argue the same points as those from the bible, but you will need to come up with another way to argue them. citing the bible just tends to devolve into some flaming thread.

This past week, I found myself in "defensive driving" situations ... one worked out very well, the other almost ended not so well.... The first, the one that almost ended up badly, happened en route to work. I was on a 4-lane road in Schaumburg in the right-hand lane, which was full of cars waiting to turn right (myself included). We were moving, but not at the speed limit. I noticed that the car behind me darted into the left-hand lane, but thought nothing of it, because I thought the driver was going to be turning left at the upcoming intersection. I was wrong. Instead, the driver apparently realized I was going slow because of the line in front of me. Before I …

Spent several hours this afternoon at the annual B-J event...was a sunny 75 degree day in dusty Scottsdale. Indoors, the new car displays from Ford, Chrysler, and GM were impressive--- lots of new Mustangs in a variety of trim levels--GTs, Shelbys, Boss 302s, and aftermarket tuners versions....really liked the MKZ, first I'd seen in person..nice interior, really interesting exterior design, esp. the rear. Loved the various SRT Mopies (Challenger, Charger, 300, JGC)...saw the new Viper for the first time, very impressed. At the GM stand, the new Silverado looked quite good in longbed crew cab form in a taupe color. The Hot Wheels Camaro SS was fun. Chec…

Never doubt the capabilites of the American aerospace industry. Naturally, manuvering capabilities, not supercruise. But keep in mind this demo was done with a full weapons and fuel load. Check out the little backflip at 2:40. Maybe they should call it the OutFlanker. I couldn't help but notice Honda's advertisements for the Odyssey- stuff like "The Van is BACK" and "Respect the Van" along with all of the crazy psychadelic colours and whatnots and think to myself, either Honda is trying to appeal to new "hippies", people of the 1960's/`70's, or of course, nothing like the classic clam bake in a van, eh? I've been in California since Fri 12/18 to visit family for Christmas. When I went to rental car counter, the agent presented the Camaro upgrade option, so I took it out of curiosity. The choices with gray or red, so I took red (being Christmas and all). It's a V-6 car, pretty basic, but has still generated a fair amount of conversation wherever I've taken it. I've put about 600-700 miles on it so far and will write up driving impressions once I get some free time. Here's a few quick iPhone pics to get you started until I can take some with my real camera. Hell Week for the Car Haters. Detroit. If you're into the whole car "thing," as virtually all of the readers of this publication are - then the third week of August is akin to our High Holy Days. Auto enthusiasts across the country are focused on two huge events this week: the Pebble Beach Concours and the Monterey Historic races on the West Coast, and the Woodward Dream Cruise in the northern suburbs of Detroit. Though polar opposites in style and tone, nonetheless these two automotive events (and countless others of lesser stature) define the car culture for auto enthusiasts across the country today. The events on the Monterey Peninsula (which Robert Louis Stephen…

Well, when the dealership changed out the spark plugs when we first got the GTO, they drove it around for a minute to make sure everything was okay. Anyways, they said the instrument cluster glitched while they were driving it, so they ordered us a new one and said they'd call us when it came in. We noticed that when the GTO is just sitting at a stoplight or in park it idles a little rough (just a slight shake every few seconds, nothing too major). So, when my dad brought it to the dealership he asked them to see if they could figure out why it did that (they said it wasn't normal). It turns out the guy before me put in a performance camshaft and some lightweight pullies …

My impression after being in both: what's the big deal? Especially the GS...the interior plastics were hard as a rock and grained no better than a Cobalt. I've also been in a new Avalon and Prius and neither impressed me as far as interiors go. I'd say the Avalon was the best of all mentioned above, however. This brings me to my second point. Why do all car manufacturers do big swaths of plastic now for the doors and dash? My Lumina has cloth on the doors and some type of s…

As I'm quite bored (there's nothing like pouring rain on a car lot to make things very slow and boring), I thought I'd pose a question. If you could resurrect one, and only one, now defunct car brand, which would you choose, why, and how would you do it? I've been thinking about this and it's a tough call. Part of me wants to say Pontiac, because I would love to see GM work harder on performance models, but my heart says Mercury. My first car was a 1982 Mercury Cougar station wagon, to me Cougar has always brought a feeling of excitement to mind (even in that wagon, at least a little bit, I'm not sure why, but that is how I thought of them as a kid and it never lef…

Toyotas. Yes I said it. Something interesting about Toyotas. It's a database of all the paint codes used throughout a model's lifespan. Yeah, it's a nerdy obsession. I wish I could find a website like this for other manufactures. A complaint: Why are all the cars looking riced? Just make 'em look normal. In any case, here's the link: Toyota Reference

The L WORD, a show on SHOWTIME about Lesbians. It's pretty much is a dumb show. The storylines and dialogue and dumb as heck (ok, not dumb, just overdone)and are merely needed as a part to set up the real story. Which is to have a show on TV with chicks kissing. So since I just got satellite and a big ass plasma TV, of course (and because its on like ALL THE TIME) I find myself watching it. I watch it to watch women make out, and that's about it. Just curious if there is any sort of outside opinions on whether you think the show sucks, is good, or otherwise. Most showtime orgiinal shows are pretty lame anyways. Or maybe, the story is fine, its just the acting…

So I bought an 04 Bonneville for the girlfriend to get around in. Her old car was nearing the end and I got a hell of a deal on this car that was out in Boise. It seemed to be pretty well optioned and I never saw a picture of it, just knew it was in decent shape, had 65K on it, and was white and that was enough for me. So I fly out to Boise to drive it back. When I get there, to my suprise it has hub caps on it. I was over it pretty quickly and figured I would throw a nice set of 17s on it and call it good. Well the girlfriend hates how aftermarket it is going to look with most of the rims I've found for a decent price and wants something stock on it. So I thoug…

Some rides didn't get the credit they deserve when new, or were once well known and have become forgotten in the interim. Like the Blown 312 Y block '57 Fairlanes, that had the kind of power FE V8 Mustangs only had a decade later. What other cars would you add? Ford Fairlane Gremlin 401-XR '67 Firebird 400

Woo hoo! I have another "medical procedure" in my future.... At the NMCOA Mini Meet in Stillman Valley IL, September 27, 2008, I didn't eat lunch and spent the entire late morning/early afternoon walking around and chatting. Late that afternoon, I suddenly had an excruciating pain right above my belly button; that area of my skin was tender and a "bump" of sorts was visible. I chalked it up to no lunch and too much walking around. So, I sat in my '87 MC LS/CL and grabbed a snack and a mint. The pain subsided within 15 minutes ... and I forgot about the incident. That is ... I forgot about it until Wednesday night, February 18. I had just finished watching "That …

so on the way to work today i came up to a stop light. a black jacked up trd doublecab v8 tundra is beside me. now of course i was unfortunatley in the colorado instead of the impala but the dude rolls on me. then he rolls again. well, unabated i took his offer. tis a sad thing to see when a "380 hp" v8 doesnt start pulling away from the I5 colorado until halfway through 2nd gear... he was interested in turning at the next light which i was turning well before otherwise i would have stayed in a little longer, but i made sure to give him the big ole thumbs down shaking head before turning. you would thing that mom and dad would have bought a better truck to send jr off to …

Okay, here's the deal: Back about 4 years ago, the company I work for had a company-wide (and this is an international firm mind you), mandatory week-end long meetings in Montreal. We were set to fly out on Friday, do all of the weekend bs and fly back on Monday. About the Wednesday previous, a co-worker of mine (Pete) and I were talking while having a morning cup of coffee. I'm not sure how we got on the subject, but Pete mentioned that a buddy of his in college used to pull this prank where he would tape a dildo to his ankle and then head out to a bar. At some point during the evening, when talking to the female gender, he's casually cross his leg and non-chalantl…

OK, I may be biased, but here are the first 11 (yes, mine goes to 11 ) cars that come to mind when I think about designs that I don't think I'll ever get tired of. Not all GM obviously, and these are but the first 11, I'm sure I could come up with another 11 easily.

1946 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall Motoring Memories: Chevrolet/GMC Suburban, 1935-2006 Story and photo by Bill Vance Ours is an evolving automotive world where fads and fancies, not to mention names and models, come and go. But through the years some vehicles, such the Model T Ford and the Volkswagen Beetle, did remain constant to their original calling. The T is gone of course, and Beetle production ended in Puebla, Mexico in July, 2003. The Volkswagen Beetle has even been reincarnated, albeit now with a front engine and front-wheel drive. Another model that has stayed the course is the truck-based all-steel Suburban (called the Suburban Carryall until 1973) sta…

I Finaly got tires for the caprice since well winter is coming and i have a nice gash on my hand from the steel band that was sticking out of the tire plus the blistering looked pretty bad on the one tire. These were bald tires. I go up looking for cheap econo Whitewalls for decent ones $61 a tire. A little extreme? what happend to the el cheapos for 29.99 that lasts 40k? I ended up with Repblic Ensigns never Heard of them before. But after 200 miles there quiet and have decent grip. I still need to get an alignment tho. that bill was $260 i think plus i still need to go get an alignment. Plus when did motor oil go up in price? I changed my oil and for 6 quarts or vavlo…

So wanted to try one of these for a while. Hope enough of you guys will participate. Choose up to four sports/pony/sporty/performance cars that you would buy with your OWN MONEY. Whatever you can realistically afford NEW or USED, one out of three - four choices you will present. Post picture of them in your favorite color.

I've read that with the free trail versions of Photoshop, you can't save, print, or export. Has anyone downloaded it to either verify or dismiss that? I'm getting fairly sick of my existing photo editing software and have been looking into Photoshop. I don't want to go through the trouble of downloading such a large program if I'm only going to be able to play with it and it's certainly too expensive to buy outright. As well, I would want to look into alternate programs. Either way, what I have is going to be replaced. Help is appreciated.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California sued the federal government in its struggle to set the country's first greenhouse gas limits on cars, trucks and SUVs, asking the Environmental Protection Agency to review its decision to deny the state a waiver that would allow it and 16 other states to regulate emissions. Dismissing California's arguments that it faced unique threats from climate change, EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson said last month the federal government had a national plan to raise fuel economy standards. California officials on Wednesday provided new data in an attempt to show their program is superior to the federal plan. "I think we are coming back strong …
