My mind has been a little mixed up recently. I've had some very disturbing nightmares. The movie Silent Hill, as much EVERYONE I know hates it, fascinates me because much of the imagery in it is the stuff of my nightmares. That over sized, creepy Pyramid guy & his violent actions are pretty much something my mind would conjure up. Something is up with me, I know what it is I guess, just don't know how to deal with it. Julie and I are doing great, despite the miscarriage. Things are looking up and I've been a happy camper as of late, even on Thanksgiving I was thinking how I should count my blessings. But there's this "thing" looming over m…

Just got back from our dealer and we will likely be rolling in a W-Body by the end of the week. The Buick we initially came down to see was sold on Saturday but we saw a 2007 Impala on the Used Lot that was built less than six months ago and only had 11K Kms (6500 miles) on it, so we figured what the hell, seems like the right car and the price is right so we're gonna buy it (pending my mother's approval). It's Dark Silver Impala LS with Graphite Cloth interior and Wood Interior trim. It's also got alloys, spoiler, XM Radio, OnStar, Bucket Seats w. Floor Shift, Remote Start, Those neat folding rear seat cushion things (I don't know what they're called), and Leather Wra…

This isn't some "GM Death Watch" thread. This is industry-wide. Who do you think the next brand or company will be to leave the US market? There's been serious talk about Mitsu leaving, occasional talk about VW leaving, though I haven't had that impression myself. Then of course there's the occasional clamor for axing a GM brand. Isuzu is gone (practically has been for a while, though). So, who's next to leave the US market or shut down?

Auto Ads - We Love, We Hate So I came across some older ads and thought cool, ugh not cool and thought we should have an Auto Ad thread where we post em and discuss them. I actually liked when this man was a spokes person for the K-car revolution. He made everything cool! This just made me crack up when I saw this!

We've got dozens of other dumb threads, why not another? This thread is dedicated to those little quotes that make your day. Maybe someone says something so stupid, it makes you smile to think about it. Maybe its something so profound, or maybe its something so insanely funny that you think you're going to asphyxiate from laughing. Here is mine: "Why? I dont even like camping" --A girl I know after I told her she was getting a dutch oven for her birthday.

Well last night we had a report of a house fire... the first since ive been in.... cool for me right? not so much.... see yesterday i had been sick all day, and had been throwing up. when the call got toned out, i had just thrown up, but there was no way i was missing it. we get to the scene, and my compnay had the 3rd hoseline, meaning we werent taking the brunt of the fire. by the time we really were in there, the fire was pretty much done, but this place was a mess... real packrats, so we had to clear out the fi…

Now that I'm home for the holidays, my neighbor came over yesterday with a basket full of fresh ripe tomatoes that she brought back from Florida on Friday. Those tomatoes smelled like they do when I pick them out of my garden in July. Yesterday I left my gated community and headed for the Little Italy section of Wilmington and went straight to M. Fierro & Sons to pick up some mozzarella cheese. (Open on Saturdays in December) Today I had a plate full of sliced tomatoes on a bed of sliced mozzarella cheese sprinkled with a nice balsamic vinegar, it was to die for. Link to M. Fierro & Sons to see their products, which are excellent and locally made below: http…

I have too many computers and not everything organized correctly. But while I was thinking of a couple of past road trips from my last post, I thought I would post a couple of good pics I had on this machine. I really miss my Z28 a lot. That was hands down one of the coolest cars I ever had the pleasure of owning and driving. I had the car about 9 months or so and had a week off so I decided to take a road trip to Denver to see my cousin. It was one of the first big road trips I took by myself (stopped in Lubbock to stay with a friend) - and it was certainly very memorable. I got to the New Mexico border and had to stop to take this shot. God I loved that LS1 V8…

Found this in the Hemmings eWeekly newsletter.. One for the Rust Belt See, what goes around really does come around. Word comes to us of Mack Trucks Inc.’s plans to move its highway truck production from its New River Valley plant in Virginia to that traditional stronghold of the Bulldog (and classic vehicles in general), Macungie, Pennsylvania. The big rigs will be built alongside construction and trash trucks that are already assembled in Macungie, in a factory that’s nearly across the street from the onetime Mack museum in the same town. It’s a reversal of the timeworn practice of shifting such manufacturing jobs to the South. The New River Valley plant, inciden…

A man killed Wednesday while apparently involved in a street race in Hercules was a San Francisco sheriff's deputy, a sheriff's department spokeswoman said. Christopher Walker, 23, of Antioch, had worked at the department for two years, most recently providing security at San Francisco General Hospital, according to spokeswoman Eileen Hirst. Before that, he worked at the San Francisco County Jail. According to Hercules police, Walker was racing a red Chevrolet Camaro against another car when he crashed into a light pole on Palm Avenue, between Sycamore Avenue and the state Highway 4 on-ramp, at about 2:30 p.m. The other car, which left the scene of the crash, was d…

I am guilty of buying too many cars. In the past three years I have owned a 1999 Grand Am, 1993 GMC Sierra, 2003 Corolla, 1985 Grand Marquis and a 2005 Acura RSX. Looking at that I have wasted too much money on cars. I have the RSX and access to my fathers Sierra (which I am beginning to love) at the current time. I want to drop the RSX in favour of a new truck, but I am going to get raked over the coals. Is there a help clinic for people like me? The only other option is to work at a car dealer and get new demos every 8000 kms!

I don't know WTF is going on but I have not gone a week in the past few months without having a really freeky and whacked out nightmare. Last night I found myslef in the elaborate Baroque Dinning room of a Serial Killer. He had one of those fancy James Bond style multi purpose canes and was telling me how I was going to meet a violent death. When he said something about hurting my family though I just snapped and somehow got in a mortal wound on him with a fancy knife that was carefully placed on the table in one of dozens of elaborate place settings. It seemed like there was a good three minutes of my dream (nightmare) where I ended up cutting his neck so badly wi…

Two days ago I spotted an old Chevy dump truck in the distance. As I got closer to it, I realized it was the truck I built in the early nineties! It's a '78 LWB C-30 with a 454 that I re-bodied and painted to match my '90 Silverado. Amazingly, that old 454 (original) is still going strong, although the rest of the truck is quite battered at this point. It turned onto my road behind me and I stopped to talk with the owner who loves the old beast. It was loaded with woodchips and making a delivery in my neighborhood. We chatted about the truck and both of us got to grinning and laughing at the unlikely encounter. Left me in a much better mood, and with a big smile. This…

What are those features about a car that you just love? I'm not talking so much about "I love a car with a ton of horsepower" or "a car that gets a billion mpg", but the little things that just make you smile. The first one that comes to my mind is the gas cap door with a release inside the car. I also like map lights that are semi-shaded - the light does not have a direct path to your eyes, but more down at the seats, making them much nicer at night. So, what are your favorite features?

In our backyard sits an 86 oldsmobile delta 88, for some reason a few years ago the motor went kaput. The car is pretty good condition, even the interior. Im gonna end up getting another 3.0 V6 for it, heard horrible things about the 3.8's reliability. Probably gonna get a motor from a junkyard and clean it up, even run some engine cleaner through it, but does anyone on here have some ideas on things i can do to enhance the performance?

Tuesday, 09/12 and evening of Wednesday, 09/13: I left work early on Tuesday because of a 100+ degree fever. Then, the next evening, while attempting to catch up on reading my forums after recovering a little bit from being sick, my computer crashed; not sure if it garnered a virus or spyware or was attacked by someone. I’m still looking to either get that computer fixed or buy yet another new one. Currently, I’m using my parents’ computer to catch up and post a bit …. This computer situation is VERY frustrating for me … my computer is LESS than 2 years old … the…

That is a CD of mine. I'm not sure how it got like that. I hope it's repairable. It plays... sort of. The first half of the CD endlessly skips, jumps, etc. Only my computer actually plays it. The second half sounds unscathed for the most part. I'd like to atleast rip this CD onto my pc so I could make a new copy of it. I just wonder if I can repair it enough to be able to do that, atleast. Any suggestions?

I always have wondered there are folks out there just buying a car because they like/need the car but others have a very different way of looking at it. I am one of those who have a very different way of looking at it. I will start off I drive GM because of the dealership I have that I actually like to deal with. I drive GM because I believe in supporting American compaines. I drive GM becuase I have always had for the most part good luck with there products. I drive GM because they offer a wide variety of products always haveing something that I like and fits my needs and budget. I have driven other cars but always keep coming back to GM because of what they offer, and t…

Enough political BS Let's get light. Here's some advice i need. My 500 lease goes back in a week or so. To cover myself in the wake of a scarce credit scenario, I bought a used Taurus X a couple months ago. Now it seems like a good move. So, replacing my 500 is done, and I don't have to be forced into a bad deal now, when credit is tight and good deals are also few as well. The thing is now I am driving the 2004 Aztek. Wife has the new rig. The dilemma I face is its a nice daily driver. Quiet, spacious, 20 mpg, functional. Drives like a dump truck and its not fun per se, but its a good cruiser. Its in decent shape. More on that in a bit. It has 95,000 m…

WHAT IF: GM had fully and properly engineered the Oldsmobile 5.7L diesel V8? Where would diesel powered vehicles be in terms of sales percentage today? I believe that Americans would have bought a lot more of them, which would have led to evolution of the technology for economy and performance. Diesel power would have owned a very large percentage of the U.S. market to this day, as it has in Europe. BUT... we all know how it was handled and were we are today. What do you all think?

I've stopped by my credit union to see about a loan and a $4-5k loan is within my reach. I.E. it's doable. I just need to fill out the application. However, I'm still wondering what my best option is right now. While getting the Cutlass up and running isn't as easy as I'd like it to be, it can be done for probably $500 or so. I don't look forward to having to pay for its gas mileage again either, but it is an option to consider. I could also try for another cheap beater or perhaps a lesser loan of $1-2k for something to get me by until I'm finished parting the Jetta out. Finally, I could go for the full $4-5k and find a true replacement, which I will need to do eventua…

As the story goes, Esso Oil asked custom car guru George Barris (he of Batmobile, Munster Koach and Drag-u-la fame) to create four custom Oldsmobile Toronado coupes for the 1967 Canadian Expo. The car you see above is dubbed Toronado 67X, and according to the seller on eBay, it is one of the only two cars remaining. The big coupe was originally gold, but time and poor treatment have turned it a lovely shade of something other than gold (well, several lovely shades, actually). Although the auction has just ended, we thought you'd still enjoy a glimpse of what the seller calls the "Project car find of a lifetime" (which might be how long it would take to get it back toget…

Had a sad moment Friday where I said goodby to a trusted friend that never let me down no matter what I asked that friend to do. This is my '94 F-150 XL Special. Only vehicle I myself have bought new (out of 20). 300 CI I-6, 4-spd auto, 3.08s out back, 2WD. Almost no options, but did come w/ AM-FM & A/C- enough for me. Truck has rolled 146K since '94, tho by the 5/08 inspection sticker, apparently I haven't driven it much in the last 11 months. Body is really excellent except for 1 thing- over both rear wheelwells, it's starting to rot from the inside- the rest is arrow straight & rust-free. Not so the undercarriage- an inadvertant drive thru a flooded…

Toshiba asks $250 for theirs while i found a different manufacturer for $130. well the first was replaced for free under a recall notice, the next one i bought out of pocket for the $130. the toshiba replacement lasted nearly a year and a half, the $130 for maybe 8 months... you get what you pay for i guess. i kept the bulb off the bright set…

Is it me, or does the all-new GL look downright cheap and generic? I've seen Chinese imitations that look more authentic than this actual MB design. Everything about it screams dull, plasticky and derivative. *NOTE: The following images are taken from the official Mercedes-Benz website*.

After an entire month of above average temperatures and little if any snow, it looks like winter is finally ready to make a comeback. A Blizzard Watch is currently in effect for my county (Westchester, NY), along with approx. 10 other counties in Southern New England and Long Island. I'm sure Paulie (LI) is getting ready for this as well. Snow is expected to overspread my area in the early afternoon tommorow and become heavy through tommorow night and Sunday. Last I heard whiteout conditions were likely for late tommorow night. Most forecasts are calling for 8-12", though some are forecasting higher amounts. I'll have to get out early tommorow before the storm arr…

This my yamahaha. Who is not currently Conquering All, i tried to Conquer All but this really steep part that is used to get on trail #7 still had a foot of snow and was muddy, i tried 3 times to get up (wasnt a power issue, even though these 2 strokes suck at hill climbing) and on the 3rd time my grips slid off, so had to stop. have to get some of them. Heres the pics while not in action: BTW its a Yamaha WR 200 thats my dads XR650 in the far backround.

Why are there no kilts available at the Cheers & Gears Store? They are perfect for summer heat (plenty of air circulation), plus someone could recreate that iconic Marilyn Monroe shot of her standing over the air grate, trying to hold her skirt down. What more could anyone ask for?

By Buck Wolf Men of the world, rejoice! The average length of an erect penis is shorter than you probably think. A study by Lifestyles Condom Co. shows that the average length of a male sex organ is 5.877 inches — which might comfort men who previously thought they were less than average. "The Kinsey Sex Report and other penis size surveys have indicated that the length of the penis is 6.2 to 6.4 inches," says Simon Joseph, a spokesman for Lifestyles. "Our results show that about three-quarters of men fall under the average quoted by Kinsey." "A half-inch or less might not have anything to do with how you perform sexually, but it might make a difference in how you fee…

I stopped by the local GMC dealership this evening after work, went into the showroom and started leafing through that gigantic tablet they have, showing all the different models. A salesdude approached me, so I asked if he had any info, especially pictures, of the interior changes for '07 on the Canyon. He gave me an '06 Canyon brochure. Nice move. So I asked him to mail me an '07 Canyon brochure. We sat down at his desk while he took my info. I casually said, "I understand they're bumping these up for '07" He said, "Yeah, they have more horsepower, but I'm not sure the displacement is any bigger." I said, "Uh, yeah, the 4 is going to 2.9L and the 5 is going t…

I just made some dinner and it turned out rather nicely, thought I'd share and see what creative ideas others have come up with. Take one of those packets of chicken noodle soup. Put it in the amount of water the instructions ask for, and begin to boil it. Take a collander (pasta strainer) and empty a package of spinach into it. Place the collander on top of the soup pot. As the soup boils, it will steam the spinach. The spinach will get a bit of chicken noodle flavour. Make sure you turn the spinach and stir the soup so they cook properly. Stick some Garlic Plus on the spinach, spoon out some soup and enjoy. I know steamed spinach is an aquired taste, but I like it. …

* HELLO AGAIN, EVERYBODY! I'm not sure any quantity or quality of words or time will ever be able to express my appreciation for ALL of your well wishes, thoughts/prayers. I'm well, mostly. My 4th open heart surgery (11/11/2011) was successful (my "big heart" is no more)! However, I was taken in for another surgery (evening, 11/12/2011), after I became unresponsive for a time due to internal bleeding around the surgery site. I still hurt/ache and am cold at times, but I'm coping and TRYING to follow "doctors orders" as MUCH as possible. The pain is more "annoying" than anything. Recovery is going VERY SLOWLY (it seems, since I haven't had energy to DO much), but b…

Yeah, I geeked the Pontiac lot this afternoon. I checked out everything up front, then glanced out back... and there it was. I don't even know how this happened, it just did. 2007 G6 GT coupe, in clean, pure white with ebony cloth, Sun&Sound package, chrome clads, and floormats. It just struck me. $23,965, I think it was. I envisioned it with the chrome lower GM accessory grilles. I stopped dead in my tracks. I pressed nose to glass. I slowly walked around to check it out from all angles. This is one sweet looking coupe. I'm in frickin' love. I want it so bad.

All right, so I'm cruising around tonight in the truck, blowing off some steam after being at work and leaving from the hospital visiting the little girl and wife in while the little girl cooks for a little while under the lights (she has Jaundice). I'm on the interstate, cruising at about 65, relatively light traffic. A StumpJumper (Ford Crown Victoria with 24" + wheels on it so it now has 2-ft ground clearance) blows past me like I'm sitting still. I decide to follow him to see where the fire is, crank down on the pedal, throw it into 2nd and listen to the quad exhaust pipes thunder (if only I'd finally done the flame thrower kit for the pipes it woulda been a hell o…

Some good reads in there. There's a write-up on the G8, and they put some miles on a new Commadore, there's a comparison test of the Silverado and Tundra (GM won!). Also is a interesting write-up from angus Mackenzie (editor) in regards to Thomas Friedmans comment in the NY times about GM building "gas guzzlers". He make several good points against Toyota and how 12 of thier 17 cars in the booth at NAIAS were new Tundra's. I like the comment were he says: "It's become fashionable to eulogize Toyota for building inviromentally friendly vehicles. But the only thing green about the Tundra is the color of the $1.3 billion or so Toyota has splurged on the factory to build …

Australia is in the midst of a crippling drought, the country's worst on record. Many towns and cities have been forced to enact drastic water restrictions as reservoirs have run dry. Rivers have been reduced to a trickle. The drought has severely damaged the agricultural sector. Farmers are raising emaciated cattle and sheep. Cotton-lint production has plummeted. Wine grape and rice output has collapsed. Agricultural production has fallen by almost one-quarter in a year. And it is estimated that the drought has knocked three-quarters to 1 per cent off the country's growth as a whole. And now the government is reaching for desperate measures. Australia's Prime Minister,…

Check out the wild sound effects. Looks like somebody had too much fun with a keyboard. This reminds me of the video we watched in driver's ed about the dangers of semi trucks....really boring, drawn out, and old (the kids in the movie had mullets if that says anything). I think 3/4 of the driver's ed class slept through that one.

Wow...talk about actually living in the future. I remember when I originally saw something like this on the movie Minority Report years ago, I thought something like that wouldn't be available for another 10 years at least. Amazing how fast technology accelerates these days. http://www.microsoft.com/surface/ Also, from Sony...LCDs that are so thin they can be bent with your fingertips (remember the scene from Minority Report where they read newspapers that are similar to this that have up-to-the-minute news? Hmm... ) http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/business/...AF?OpenDocument

For my architecture independent project, I have been working on a site analysis model of downtown Des Moines. My project is a light rail transportation hub with retail and public space, and the site of the project is adjacent to the rail tracks running by downtown (in the image below, there are two surface parking lots next to two purple parking garages and a couple overpasses...those lots are where the hub will go). For those that have ever played SimCity, the color scheme should be pretty easy to recognize: Green = residential lofts / apartments / condos Blue = commercial office & retail Yellow = industrial / warehouses Orange = civic buildings, federal buildi…

Rules for this one are simple....5 choices....but must be five different decades. Must be generally recognizable as a luxury car. A lotus Elise does not qualify. That's all she wrote for rules. A decade is 1960-1969, 1970-1979, etc... Interested to see what you all come up with.

Last night while on my way to see a friend, I stopped off to fill up my Riv. After spending $40 to fill up from ABOVE a half tank, I proceeded north on Route 100 ( also known as Central Park Avenue) anyway about a mile up the road, I was cruising in the right lane at about 35MPH, it was dark out and raining, I had my wipers on. Suddenly, a dark blue '91 Accord pulls out of a parking lot, nearly takes the front of my Riv off, and pulls out into the road. He begins to gain some speed, at this point I had flashed him my high beams and was racing to catch up to him to curse him out. Just as I was catching up to him, I noticed two people crossing the road up ahead, and the…
