RALEIGH , N.C. - Tammy Faye Messner, who as Tammy Faye Bakker helped her husband, Jim, build a multimillion-dollar evangelism empire and then watched it collapse in disgrace, has died. She was 65. Messner had battled colon cancer since 1996 that more recently spread to her lungs. She died peacefully Friday at her home near Kansas City, Mo., said Joe Spotts, her manager and booking agent. A family service was held Saturday in a private cemetery, where her ashes were interred, he said. Article continues: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19891663/

Ever get in one of those situations where all you can do is eat and you aren't "filling up?" So far I had an entire bag (put it in a skillet and cook it on the stovetop for like 20 minutes) of this "Garlic Chicken home skillet" stuff from the grocery store that's meant to serve two, a Little Debbie treat, a pudding cup, a bowl of oatmeal, a piece of cake, and a bowl of ice cream... Okay, so not much "nutritious" stuff, but still!

I just noticed I have some tar/asphalt crap on my tire, it's probably about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. We just had the parking lot refinished at work, and I'm pretty sure that's the culprit. Anyone have any experience getting this stuff off? I assume i can sort of scrap it off, but if there's an easier way, let me know!

Screw convertibles, we need some affordable (preferably glass-roof) targas. The GTO, the 350Z, the Corvette...they all need the magic of the removable roof panel (not T-tops, either).

Got into a car accident today. I was taking a left leaving a shopping mall & the car (an '02 Sienna minivan -> damn yota's) across from me ran his stop sign. My '04 Malibu took it in the passenger front-corner -- HARD. Both airbags deployed (what a treat that was -- do you like smoke?). Bumper was crushed, hood caved in, fendor damaged. For those that aren't familiar with the Malibu, the pass.-side airbag is hidden behind the dash -- and when it deploys, it punches a hole in your dash to explode outward. I calc $3k in parts on the inside of my car alone (2 airbags + dash + labor). Car was still drivable -- but it did get pounded -- and NO I didn't take pict…

My wife's birthday is coming up and she asked me if I would either get a tattoo (Symbol of Chaos) on my bicep, or a nipple ring, I'm leaning towards the nipple ring as this will not leave a permanent mark on my body. I know there will be some blood with the piercing but I don't know what kind of pain to expect, can anyone else give some guidance on this aspect of it? The things you do for those you love.

I'm not really into piercings and tattoos, but for a little while now I've been thinking about getting a tattoo of my children's names & birth dates (something simple) and thought it would be a nice upcoming father's day gift for myself. So basically I decided that I wanted to find a Latin verse and get it tattooed with my children's names & birth dates below it. I'm thinking of this, and would like anyone who knows & understands Latin to make sure this is correct: amāre ad infinitum (love without end) I don't trust Google completely with this, as I won't have the money needed to remove it if incorrect

Don't know why it took me so long to post about this, but here goes. When I bought my Cruze, I was going to trade in my Cobalt. With 225,000 km on it, it wasn't worth much - similar ones online were going for $3-4k, but of course that's cleaned up and safetied. So I was hoping to get somewhere around $2k trade in. I was only able to argue them up to $1750 (first offer was $1k). Wasn't extremely happy with that, but it was acceptable. When I told my friends about the deal, my friend spoke up that his father wanted to buy the car. So I offered him the trade price plus the tax, to compensate me for the loss of the tax savings gained from a tradein. He'd also pay to safety …

I have a question to ask you guys/gals.. Do you have some good tax tips you could offer? I am gathering stuff in order now (you can never be too early), and I have never been one who gets a bunch back. But with the new baby, I figure that might change a bit.... And on top of that, we made less money this year, as the wife has been out of work caring for the little guy....... And since I cooked my brain this month (been a few rough months), I am hoping to get a few ideas.. And also hoping it might help out others as well.......

And it's not what you think.. :AH-HA_wink: While wondering the local used car lot, I stopped to look at the Blazers.....then I saw something caught my eye- a TrailBlazer. While looking at the Blazers, I though how cool it would be to have a truck again...one that could tow would be even better.. Anyways, I've always had a soft spot for TrailBlazers. This one was a 03 with 112k for 7988. (it was an LS, in case I didn't mention it...) With both my cars almost paid off, and I may wait a while (little) before another new car. I would mind a truck that I could quickly pay off......and replace the wagon. With gas about 3.30 here, I wonder how much they might knoc…

Faceoff: Lexus IS350 Vs. BMW 330i Horsepower isn’t always the only thing. by Conor Twomey (2006-03-20) Last year was a bumper year for Lexus, having sold 303,000 vehicles in theU.S. and beating BMW's 266,200 units into second place in the luxury vehicle charts. But before you go feeling sorry for the BMW, consider this: BMW sold almost as many 3-Series models in Europe last year (229,932 units, despite a March '05 introduction) as its entire U.S. sales volume and found a total of 644,000 happy European customers in total, excluding MINI. And do you know how many vehicles Lexus sold in Europe in 2005? A grand total of 28,777, or about 4.5 percent of BMW's sales. In …

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued,"What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?" To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?" Teacher Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...) "Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when the…

Brookville Area School District teachers have gone on strike, therefore delaying school until sometime in October. This means that I have an extra month of summer and will not get out of school until almost July. My school has no A/C... It's going to be a living hell. Otherwise, I can't really complain and do think teachers are underpaid.

OK, this thread is based on what repair bills for this stuff costs ...we've seen where ABS bills can go. With Series III 3800s came electronic throttle control; thus, there is NO accelerator cable. Now, VVT is on board...reading about it indicates it's somewhat complex and it runs on a powerful microprocessor. Even more interesting/foreboding is DOD/AFM which is available on the 3.9 V6s and on the 5.3 V8s. I'm sorry, but I'd rather do without most of this stuff, but I think I will have to get used to it. At least, I can buy-in after it's been around for about 3 years. What are your thoughts?

TEEN DRIVER CRASHES POSE GREATEST THREAT TO OTHER ROAD USERS, ACCORDING TO AAA FOUNDATION ANALYSIS AAA Auto Club South To Focus Advocacy Efforts on Strengthening Florida’s Teen Driver Safety Law TAMPA, FL (January 18) - The majority of people killed in teen driver crashes are people other than the teen drivers themselves, according to a recent analysis of ten years of crash data by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. HARWICH, Mass. -- Teens at a local high school staged a sit-in that ended with two arrests. "Respect. That's all we're trying to get out of it," said Ana Nocchi, a senior at Cape Cod Technical High School. Some believe the new dean at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School is too strict. Students staged the sit in after they were served only cheese sandwiches at lunch because they failed to clean up the day before. "They closed the doors and we couldn't leave the lunch room and she was standing up on stage calling us pigs and immature little kids and nasty," Nocchi said. A Facebook group organized the sit-in. Approximately 200 students gathered in school's main hall…

Okay, so I've been saying this for a few years now... tv show theme songs are gone. I don't even know why it's so important, but at any given moment, you can hum a theme from a tv show anytime between the 50's through the early 2000's, and everyone knows what it you're talking about. Most smile and join in. TV shows now don't have theme songs (at least most of them). They have a title screen at most. Some don't even do that and scroll credits during the beginning of the episode. Am I the only one who misses theme songs? The reason I bring it up is because again the discussion surfaced tonight when my cell went off ringing to the theme of The Office, and people ch…

I have a KitchenAid dishwasher that came with the house, and it appears to be a real oldie, with big ol' chrome pushbutton controls. When I set it, it heats the water for a little while, then doesn't wash. I thought it was out of sync somehow, but I have not been able to resynchronize it (happened a couple of years ago and I was able to get it work properly then). Does anyone have experience with these? Does anyone have a clue of what's wrong with it? Should I spend the money to have it looked at, or junk it and buy a new one? This is likely going to put a dent in my pickup truck fund. I've been washing dishes this week for the first time since I bought my house…

I'm seriously considering a daily driver and one of the cars on my shortlist is the 2015 VW GTI, 4-door, with manual transmission and performance package. I'm yet to test drive it. What I like, on paper, is that the car is a perfect blend of utility (hatch), performance, fun-to-drive, fuel economy, and features. What I hesitate about is VW's reliability and dealer experience. Is this car now made in Mexico, unlike previous iterations that were made in Germany? What I dislike are the options packages. I do not have problems with with getting the S, but I hate the plaid seats. I dislike the panoramic sunroof for SE and Autobahn trims. Tell me more about it. Your thought…

Take off from the thread about Tesla fighting Michigan Dealership laws Tell your tale of dealership bad behavior or poor service. One experience that stands out in my mind - When cross-shopping the 2004 CTS, I visited a Chrysler dealership to look at a 300M (this was before the RWD 300C came out). I had a salesman that didn't know his product at all. He was trying to tell me that the 300M was engineered by Mercedes, and that it at a 3.5 liter supercharged engine. As a kid or young adult, I didn't have the nerve to do this. Now I do, though I use it sparingly. Our office/firm just lost a bunch of people after the new year. Some picked up their year end bonuses and went to new companies or started their own. When the job market (in a field or in an area) is short on help, job hopping goes up and loyalty goes down. I handle my own client projects and now I "inherited" a few more from the departees. Everybody has been just awesome in understanding and is allowing us more time to complete projects. Except one client who is in the "inherited" batch. In 6 days of working with him (and I jumped right to it to servicing his project)…

I was checking through Craigslist, which is pretty addictive if you ask me, and came across this ad 1989 Camaro Yeah, I know, it's another 3rd gen Camaro. But, but, but, it's another convertible. It looks damn nice and the price is very reasonable. The only problem is that I have a full driveway already, not to mention garage. I have no plans to buy this one, unless of course the Cavalier sells real quick. If that were to happen, I might just pick this one up and consider selling my 89 RS Convertible. Hmmmmm...... Think Tammy would agree to it???

I came across this '85 Cutlass today and am very tempted. Not much in the way of pictures, but it looks like a farm car (probably gently driven) and only has 90K on the odo. $1800 seems like a great price. Anyone know the reliability with G-body Cutlasses?

Forbes Times are so difficult for the auto industry that even Toyota and Honda have now experienced the kinds of double-digit sales dips that have been plaguing American auto giants General Motors and Ford all year. Sales for the entire industry were down 26.6% collectively in September as consumers grew skittish about making big-ticket purchases. In good economic times and bad alike, however, there are some vehicles that American consumers seem to abhor outright. And they're not just the big, gas-guzzling SUVs that are currently out of favor. It turns out, the cars American consumers hate the most come in many different shapes and sizes, and they're disliked for a w…

I'm trying to type this with my left hand since my right wrist is imobilized. Made a rare trip to see a doctor today to confirm the bad news I already thought was coming my way. Right now, I can't do any of the things I usually do to make a living and am supposed to start some harsh physical therapy after "resting" my arm for several weeks. This is not in the budget. This is an interesting quiz that covers a broad scope of American civics history. The link below shows that as a whole, our elected officals score lower than ordinary citizens in this test. I think that speaks volumes for where this country is at today. http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/2008/...al_finding.html The quiz can be taken at the link below. I had 27/33, which is 82%. AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas State Board of Education adopted a social studies and history curriculum Friday that amends or waters down the teaching of religious freedoms, America's relationship with the U.N. and hundreds of other items. The new standards were adopted after a final showdown by two 9-5 votes along party lines, after Democrats' and moderate Republicans' efforts to delay a final vote failed. In one of the most significant curriculum changes, the board dilutes the rationale for the separation of church and state in a high school government class, noting that the words were not in the Constitution and requiring students to compare and contrast the judicial lang…

"Once you trade in your vehicle to the dealership, you typically don’t have much power over where it ends up. And that’s usually not a problem, unless your truck ends up in an ISIS propaganda picture with your company’s decal still pasted on the doors. That’s exactly what happened to Texas plumber Mark Oberholtzer, who sold his company’s F-250 truck to a Ford dealer in 2013. While he tried to remove the company’s decal before the transaction, a salesman allegedly told him to leave it to the dealership to handle so as not to ruin the original paint. But the decal was never removed, and the truck was shipped off to Turkey before it somehow ended up in the hands of ISI…

Anyone else watching? So far Vince Young and Texas are dominating, but OSU just had a really good punt return and have great field position. I think this game could be an instant classic.

As of July 1, one can no longer speak on a hand-held phone while driving here. Hooray. Most of my near misses were with some moron who was yacking away on a cell phone and having to make some key maneuvers at the same time. Some still yack, taking the risk they won't get caught and ticketed. Now, it's the text messagers. First, what pleasure does someone get from text messaging? All these tiny keys that are too small for most people's fingers. Why not just leave a voice mail? I might see it if you're in a business meeting and need to send/receive something, but that's about it. For all others, leave an 'effin voice mail. Now, these text messagers are sitting the…

Lets try this again, but we'll start with my counter-point to the points that started the other (now locked) thread. I used 1400+ texts last month, compared to less than 6 hours of talk time. Texting is great for short questions that have short answers. I text several of my co-workers because they always have their cell phones, and their not always at their desks. My ex and I text in regards to our son and when he's going to be where and with whom. I hate phone calls where one person needs a small piece of information because they always end up dragging on longer than they should. My fiancee and I send each other random dirty/incredibly stupid texts throughout the …

"TBINS!" ... a co-worker responded with that acronym Friday afternoon when we were talking about how good it was to be TGIF (Thank God It's Friday). We all kinda looked at him funny, he shrugged and responded, "Too Bad It's Not Saturday". He explained that he'd rather it be Saturday so he didn't have to be at work. I don't know, though. While that sounds good initially, I still prefer TGIF ... because you have the ENTIRE weekend ahead of you. If it is already Saturday, part (if not half) of the weekend is already done.... So ... what's your perspective ... TGIF or TBINS? Cort:34swm."Mr Monte Carlo.Mr Road Trip".pig valve&pacemaker WRMNshowcase.legos.HO.mod…

Today is June 1st and the beginning of Pride Month. I feel like I can consider all of you my friends and I wanted to thank you for being allies through all the years we have been coming here. This website will be 21 years old in August this year. I've been at the helm for most of the time it has been around and have never been not open about who I am. Car culture has been a historically toxic, "macho" realm with no room for the LGBT crowd. I am proud that I am able to be who I am with you guys while some other sites have LGBT leadership that is unable to be themselves publicly. Cheers to all of you for being awesome. So in honor of Pride month, whether y…

For your parts that fit my Chrysler. The HVAC knobs are custom made using the center parts from the Intrepid knobs housed inside the rubber/chrome ring from a GMC Acadia. The stereo knob, which just arrived today, is from a 2013 Sonic. This was kind of a PITA because apparently GM doesn't sell just the knobs so I had to buy the whole stereo. Bright side is that this is the brick stereo out of the super stripper fleet model, so they're dirt cheap used. She gets a little more classy every day. <3

I'm sure we all could think of at least one thing we picked up on from our fathers growing up. List 'em here in honor of father's day. For me, one cool thing my dad taught me was to never skimp on quality when it comes to tools. A good, well made tool will always get the job done, and is worth its weight in gold.

The Thanksgiving holiday is but a few days away. Our family has been asked over for dinner by some friends from California, also living out of state, but in a city about 45 miles away. The obligatory shopping and doing of chores will take place on Friday and Saturday, and maybe there will be some time to drive around some quiet scenery to relax and get away. Hope everyone will have a nice Thanksgiving.

What is, in your opinion, one of the worst cars from the Eighties era? For me, it's the Renault Fuego. Rather looked much like a bloated pig and tended to sound like one too after a few years age. Gotta love it when someone makes a five minute video tribute to their car that becomes utterly redundant after fifteen seconds.

It was really windy when I woke up so I figured that the wind had just rocked the car enough to set the preshock on the alarm off, so I just got into the shower to get ready for work and ignored it. I got out of my apartment a little after 9 and when I got down to my car I did a quick walk around just to make sure. Sure enough, someone had backed into my Impala. Right on the corner of the back bumper on the drivers side. No note either. Not a huge smack I guess, but I'm going to need a new lower bumper cover and paint. It is getting a little wierd though. You always wanted to drive. EVERYONE has that one car they've either seen, read about, knew someone had (Personally or at the office complex/on the block/etc.) that they've always wanted to drive and experience, but haven't yet for whatever reason (Like dealers not letting you unless you're actually gonna buy it) Got a lot of cars, but to keep it simple, gonna list... Mk2 TT RS! Even before I owned a Mk1 225 Roadster, even before I drove a mk2 3.2 and was disappointed with it's jelly soft clutch, always loved this beast and would love to own one! So I finally got the Buick home, and it actually accelerates and doesn't smoke or smell like gas or exhaust. But I never fixed the other little things, so its a kinda hollow victory. Still no new radio, no cruise control and the headliner is still duct taped up. And it needs a windshield. But at least we'll be able to get the kayaks to the lake without having to pray they dont act like a sail on the Prius. In the long term, I think I'm going to reverse my stance and say that I'll be willing to yank the 307 in favor of something a little ballsier. Also, I got my bike rebuilt and put a new seat on it, but that also feels hollow, mostly because I want a new bike.

Good evening! Its been a while since Ive posted outside the Merchandise forum. My lease on my '17 Traverse is coming to an end in the next couple months. Once again, I am not finding many good deals on GM vehicles at the moment. I am holding out a little longer, to see how incentives go. I just cant fathom that the same trim level Traverse in the new body style is ~125-150 more a month. Last time I ran into this with the car, I ended up buying a Charger since I couldnt get what I wanted from GM. Now on my third Charger, I dont regret it. I have been seeing ads for the new '19 Ram with a great lease price. Could I end up with no GM vehicles in the next two mo…

It's that time of year again, are any of you starting any new diet or fitness plans? I actually started a rather drastic cutback on calories before the Christmas holiday, cheating only on the Xmas day and New Years Eve. At 5'10" in height, 180lbs is the limit I let myself get to before I start actively dieting.... only this year, I went over that before the holiday and I have to fit in a suit next week. I normally run 165 - 170 lbs. I cut my calorie intake from 2500 - 3000 per day down to a strict 1500 per day. I've tried to make time to hit the gym, but it simply isn't happening right now. How about you... making any changes for the new year?

This weekend, while we were working on the lawn, I had Tammy move the Vette away from the garage so I could take care of the grass around that area. Ok, Tammy doesn't drive a stick shift very often, and had never driven our 2000 Corvette, so I told her to take it out and get some practice while I finished up around the garage. That was a mistake. She came back with one of the biggest smiles on her face that I have ever seen. Then she promptly asked if she could take to work on Tuesday (today). Tammy considers some of the cars hers and some mine. I think of them all as ours. So, she will ask to drive one of 'my' cars before driving it. Well, she's at work and so i…

Here's a sequence of photographs showing some damage done to a parked Mazda RX-8 near Ottawa. The result. The damaged Mazda and the offending vehicle's garage. Long shot showing the Mazda and the vehicle that did the damage to it. Yes, that's an M1A1 Abrams tank. A company in Ontario does work on the M1A1 Abrams tank, and their work requires them to have one on site. When taking it out of storage yesterday, the driver had a little problem.

At about 6pm saturday night the Ute was travelling down a 50kmh zone (at an eyewitness estimated speed of between 150 and 200kmh). They have gone through one of Kalgoorlie's notorious spoon drains and launched into the air. Upon bouncing back to earth something broke and the driver lost control, jumped the curb and impacted the tree pictured. It has literally torn the ute in half , seperating fuel tank, rear firewall, tray, bumpers and tray liner. The owner of the ute is just 18 and hasn't had the car for long. He wasn't driving. An age unknown friend was, and witnesses say they both appeared to be drunk. Initial reports were that the owner was out of the ute yelling a…

More pictures on the Audi RS6 Forum Things to be aware of: The car is an Audi RS6 Avant ABT, and was in pristine condition before the incident. The photos show the car exactly as it was after the crash (there was no cutting of moving of the vehicle done by the emergency response team). The driver called emergency services on his cellphone and got out unaided. The driver had only minor scratches, and after a couple of hours in hospital, came out with only a bandage on his little finger. And for the understatement of the day, "The police believe that excessive speed was a contributory factor in the accident".

Poor kid's been trying to get out of an '88 Festiva he's been driving since his ZX2 engine died, which is fine... but he got... a...Scion xB. Dark blue. I mean, at least it's not one of those "special" colors, but omg. He told me to jump in, we took a ride around the block. I was hanging on to the "oh $h!" handle the whole time. My Acadia has the power tailgate, which I love for when I have three 150+ lbs dogs on leashes and need to load them into the back. Today, I was arranging boxes of stuff in the rear cargo area with the tailgate open. My daughter had the other set of keys and thought it would be funny to close the tailgate on dear old Dad. I was listening to my iPod at the time and did not hear the audible warning that the tailgate was closing. I only realized it was closing when I felt it hit by rear end, stop, and then raise back up. Thank goodness for that safety feature, or I would have been gobbled up like one of those little balls in a Hungry Hungry Hippos mouth. Let the prank …

Yup, picked up another one a couple weeks back. '86 V-6 4-sp manual. The motor and tranny had been all rebuilt, but it had a miss in the motor. I went back a week later, took my chances and brought it home. Ended up just being bad wires. It runs good at speed but doesn't idle good right now, the guy put a new timing chain on and I'm fairly sure it's off a tooth. So I may have to dig into that. Other than that I ended up putting on new shocks/struts, new brake pads, new caliper and rebuilt the other 3, turned all rotors, painted the ground effects silver, new tires with matching wheels and detailed it up a bit. Got $1500 into it with all the new parts. Bought it as a dail…

Since I figure it will only be a matter of time before I have to cope with big city parking and BS, I have continued to search for a city car. I really want something that is short, wide, cheap, RWD coup and can keep up with the taxis. I considered the Smart, but it was too slow, too expensive (for what you got) and until lately, unobtainium. I've also considered Festivas and Metros, but they are too beat up for the desired price range. I thought about CJ5s or CJ7s, but most of them are also very pricey for whats out there. I also thought about doing a Frankenwagon... a GM wagon, shortened to two doors and a snub nose and the drivetrain relocated to the rear, a la Fie…

Make 'em as stupid as you can. Have fun until the post count of this thread reaches 18 and drops back to the last page.
