General Motors is investing $117 million to prepare its Oshawa, Ont., plant to build its new Cadillac XTS. The automaker said Thursday the move will create or retain 400 jobs on the assembly line. "This investment further extends the capabilities of the award-winning Oshawa assembly plant and pays compliment to the achievements of its dedicated workforce, one that consistently strives for excellence," General Motors of Canada president Kevin Williams said. Industry: The world changed. The world's largest (for now) automaker didn't. The good news is that most U.S. businesses haven't made the same mistake. Barring some miracle — such as a car that really clicks with consumers — General Motors Corp. is facing a future with no pleasant options. The least painful would be drastic downsizing, which means axing whole divisions like Pontiac and Buick, not just closing a few plants as it announced this week. The program, called GM Red Tag Event, starts Monday, Nov. 14, auto dealers say. A GM spokeswoman declined to comment on Friday, Nov. 11. Not sure if this is the proper forum for this question, but where are the various GM locations in the US? More specifically do they have an office or something in Traverse City, MI? On the recently added Camaro production announcement topic from the homepage, there was a GM newsletter with information on it's release and I noticed that it said Traverse City, MI near the beginning of the main article. My wife's family, and her and I, have all considered moving out near that area, but were concerned over what work would be available. Of all the years we've traveled to Traverse(from Chicago), none of us knew there was anything GM related in the area. Can anyone confirm?…

If everyone else is going to build cars like Tata's headline-grabbing Nano, GM's going to pile on, too. The Lutz cites GM's part-ownership stake in Wuling Motors, a Chinese manufacturer of sub-$3,000 utility vehicles as a possible source of a GM Nano competitor. Lutz went on to say that one way to make an inexpensive car for the developing world is to repurpose a legacy platform that has become obsolete.
