Corvette production interrupted due to wheel supply issue AutoWeek | Published 12/28/05, 3:25 pm et General Motors has sent a memo to dealers informing them that Corvette wheel supply has “experienced significant disruption” and production of certain models could be delayed as a result. GM says the wheel supply situation has caused it to make “several adjustments affecting wheel options, production volumes and production schedules.” Dealers will have to change Corvette orders based on wheel availability. Wheel company Amcast, which went into bankruptcy on Dec. 2, supplied the wheels. GM says wheel supply is still uncertain, and thus GM’s order fu…

The new issue of Motor Trend has an illustration and an article about a possible V6 powered Chevrolet Kappa sports car, called... Stingray. OK, it wasn't too many months ago that I was harping for the same thing, right here on C&G (except for the V6 part). Check it out if you get a chance!

Fbodfather posted on CZ28 some items to watch for soon. Fbod Quote: "Further, while many people have been exceedingly upset since the cars went on "hiatus' in August of 2002, there is every reason to believe that the future indeed looks bright. After the first of January, I'll be sharing with you a web address where you can watch the festivities from Detroit as a very exciting new Coupe Concept is unveiled on the morning of January 9, 2006. Perhaps this 'unveiling' is the Christmas Gift that many of you have been asking for!" He also noted they would anounce where the show car will appear this season on Jan the 9th. Looks like Chica…

I recently had the opportunity to pick up a light blue LS Impala from Enterprise for 4 full days to really get a feel for this revamped Chevy. To my surprise and delight this base LS model came with a trip computer and dual trip odometers so I could see what the computer said I was averaging and what the calculator said. This was again the LS model without the 2 only options of ABS and remote starter prep. My first observation upon pulling out of Enterprise and getting up to speed was how much quieter this 06 was compared to my previous 00 base model. This pleased me to see that Chevy has finally quelled some of the road noise that plagued earlier versions. This new I…

When I just read the specs on the Turbo Ecotec for the solstice it got me thinking since this motor is probally gonna take over the S/C in the High Preformance it got me wondering when will the engine take over and when what improvements will be made to the car to compensate for age and the preformance gap between a 2.4 and a 2.0 turbo. I figure the Cobalt will get this engine in 2008 then again 2007 is a possibility but I think Chevy will wait 4 years so they can give the Cobalt a refresh. Will the Ecotec line stay the same? Will the 2.2 and 2.4 ecotec still have the same power as they have now when the vehicle is refreshed. How will DI technology coming to the ecotec…

Some Camaro news from my source.... "Just thought you might like to here the story behind the pics. All the pics that were leaked on the web are pics that GM released to a toy company so production toys/scale models can be ready for sale shortly after the NAIAS. Someone at the toy co leaked the pics, I've heard the FBI is involved and GM plans to prosecute the person responsible. Expect to see a silver running car at Detroit and a red push car at LA."

I have been doing video editing for the last few years and a lot of the videos that I have done have to do with cars. My first video I ever did was a "Camaro Returns"-esque sort of thing which was originally posted on this site (I still get emails about it) and with the recent surge of attention that the new Camaro was getting, I have wanted to do another Camaro tribute video in a way that it would be like something you would see being played moments before the actual debut of the vehicle. I have been reading through the lists of song suggestions on camaroz28.com's "Intro Music" thread and I have a few ideas for a video using some of the songs list…

Without the Tahoe, it would be 2005 all over again (and GM is one company that doesn't want to see that happen). The all new 2007 Chevy Tahoe delivers the numeral "6" (part of the "2006" ball that will drop New Year's Eve) to New York's One Times Square building, signaling Chevrolet's Times Square involvement on New Year's Eve. Chevrolet will launch the all new 2007 Chevy Tahoe that evening, raising a pair of matching Tahoes high above the crowd with custom 20' tall hydraulic scissor lifts as special musical guest Mary J. Blige performs two songs on Chevy's custom stage in the heart of Times Square. The performance will be broadcast live on "NBC's New Year's Eve Wi…

Amid all the new Camaro pics, rumors and speculations, I found two old articles from the December 1986 Motor Trend, back when FWD Camaro and Mustang rumors ran rampant. The Ford Probe proved the Mustang rumors wrong and the demise of the horrible GM-80 car and the introduction of the Chevy Beretta let the Camaro live on. You will laugh and cringe and what could have been for our beloved muscle car and see of screwed up GM (and the auto press) was in the 1980s. A 4-wheel drive 1988 IROC-Z? Don't remember that one.

On the 11th apparantly a new version of the T2X concept debuted. I first saw it on GMTV and took a print screen of it, and I was only able to find one other pic of it. Anyways, here is the old T2X that debuted back in April: And here is the "evolved" one: Here is the only other pic I could find of the new one: Obviously there must be a bigger version of the last one I posted, but I couldn't find any. Regardless, I think the new Chevy grill inserted into the old black space makes it look a lot better, and I really think GM could do good producing something like it.

Automobile Journalists of Canada put the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in a Class of its Own Eeh MARKHAM, ON, Dec. 7, 2005; It isn't often that a production car is made that is so clearly superior that it is deemed to have no competition at all, but this year, at its annual Car of the Year awards presentation, the Automobile Journalists of Canada (AJAC) declared the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 to be just such a car. As a result, AJAC announced the creation of a completely new award to recognize a 'truly exceptional vehicle that sets new standards' and presented the inaugural "AJAC Most Coveted Vehicle" award to General Motors of Canada for the Corvette Z06. Commenting on the n…

First let me say I am simply speculating and posting my thoughts on the issue, and that I have no inside info confirming this, just info/rumors that I have read. By now I'm sure most of us who have followed the 'GMX386' thread know that the NG Malibu has been cancelled and we won't have a new Malibu until Epsilon II is ready. I've been thinking about GM globalizing over the next few years and what that means to future product plans in general, and more importantly for this thread, what that means to the future of Chevrolet cars. First, let's consider the platforms that GM will have at its disposal upon which to base cars on by 2010: Note t…

I was talking to a insider and they might be giving the Monte Carlo the boot. And replace it with what you ask? A Sports coupe that is in "Design and Test Stage", So the Camaro might be out of the question. Getting info was really hard since His/Her job might be at risk but, i got permission to say this from them. The Drive train is most likly a RWD to AWD. But FWD may be chossen. Power train will either be a V6 standard most likely the 3.9 i think that will push 250 HP. with optional I5 engine. But a "SS" or "GTP" Package. will have a V8 to push from 375 to 425 hp. If FWD is chossen a 310 horsepower 5.3 will most likey be a the engine. …

600 Horses: Chevy Working on '08 Corvette SS? Date posted: 12-06-2005 DETROIT — Corvette rumors are as rampant these days as tabloid stories about Nick and Jessica. But aficionados' antennae are picking up emanations from deep inside General Motors that Chevrolet is readying an ultra Vette for 2008 that should outgun the new Z06. According to the Web site, DigitalCorvettes.com, the so-called Corvette SS will be the ultimate Vette, although details at this stage are pretty slim. The rumor mill has a "charged" LS9 engine under the hood as a Corvette exclusive, not to be shared with Cadillac, Pontiac or any other GM brand. Although smaller in displacemen…

December 7, 2005 First Drive: 2006 Corvette Coupe Z51 Review and photos by Michael La Fave Over the years I have had the opportunity to drive a lot of Corvettes. I even sort of own one: a 1987 coupe with the mid-level Bilstein performance suspension, oil and trans coolers, shorter final drive and every conceivable luxury feature. The point of telling you about the '87 is to simultaneously divulge what might be perceived as a bias and the desire to express my fondness of the marque. Some of my favourite 'Vettes (that I've driven) are: our two-tone '87, the 330-hp, six-speed manual 1996 Collector's Edition, the 2001 Corvette Z06 and a rare, custom-built Z06 conver…

While watching some of the news this morning they mentioned the top cars that the insurance institute claimed as the safest. To my suprise the Ford Five Hundred/Montigo tested best in the full size test, Saab 9-3 best in mid size with the Chevy Malibu in there also. I found it interesting that CNN went out of their way to note that Saab was owned by GM and it was good to see a US owned car in there.

As i searched this site and other automotive news sites the past few days, i've noticed one recurring theme, That the new lineup of Chevy SS's have been recieving the BEST reviews we've seen from a chevy in a LOOOOONNNNGGG Time! I don't know about all of you, but i KNOW that if they can build a whole line-up of great cars, why can't they build EVERY car that good? The Malibu SS, Cobalt SS, Monte Carlo SS and Impala SS are great, but why cant the base Cobalt or Monte be just as good as it's brotheren? That is my question. The Mother of All Vettes on the Mother Road By Bill Baker Email Date posted: 12-01-2005 I had driven a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 more than 2,000 miles from Chicago searching for bits of Historic Route 66. In California's Mojave Desert there was a long, lonely stretch of the old road that just might let me flirt with the 6's top speed of 198 mph. I hadn't passed anyone in miles and I could see the road ahead was empty to the horizon. I dropped the six-speed gearbox from 6th to 4th and floored it. Like a cathedral pipe organ playing Bach's "Toccata" with all the stops out, the 7.0-liter, 505-hp LS7 V8 began to thunder and howl toward it…

But it isn't. Chevrolet Show Car to Have "Zeta Light" Platform Date Posted 11-29-2005 DETROIT — The sports car prototype that Chevrolet will unveil in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit will ride on General Motors' Zeta Light architecture and is almost certain to have a Corvette engine. GM would love to have a rear-wheel-drive coupe or 2+2 vehicle to challenge the Ford Mustang and forthcoming Dodge Challenger, and the prototype will show how GM thinks it should handle the matter. GM would also like its Mustang fighter to arrive as soon as possible. Media are reporting that GM will call the prototype "Camaro," but supplier sources…

Malibu Maxx stands alone NEW VEHICLE REVIEWS By Russ Heaps SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES November 25, 2005 If you still need evidence that there is indeed forward thinking going on at General Motors, take a gander at Chevrolet's Malibu Maxx. Before evaluating details such as the quality of materials used inside the cabin, keep in mind that Chevrolet's assignment in the GM pecking order is affordable transportation. Even its halo vehicle, the Corvette, is remarkably price competitive in the two-seat sports car arena. So while Malibu may not have the panache of, say, a Toyota Camry (When have you ever before seen panache and Camry used in the same sentence…

AUTOWEEK Posted Date: 11/22/05 Camaro coming Dodge won’t get all the muscle car buzz with its Challenger concept at the Detroit auto show this January. Word is General Motors will show a Camaro concept on a stretched Kappa (Solstice, Sky) chassis. The car is set for production as a 2009 model, sources say. The other GM concept for Detroit won’t be a Pontiac Firebird, but more likely will be a Buick crossover. Don't know how accurate this is yet, but will be a big blow to those claiming the Kappa could not be stretched. Fbodfather said last Feb a V8 would fit in the Kappa, so that may have been a clue back then? Note the 2009 fits when the W body is to die and …

The prototype 1969 540 Camaro SuperCoupe, shown for the first time at the 2005 SEMA Show, wins GM's top Design Award. At a special awards breakfast, Kip Wasenko, Director Of Design, Special Vehicles, General Motors, presented the highly coveted, Third Annual 'Best GM Vehicle' Design Award to the MOTION Team for its coachbuilt 700-hp, two-seat Camaro Supercar. "In a crowded field of restyled GM products at SEMA this year, the Baldwin-Motion 540 Camaro SuperCoupe, penned by Kris Horton working with MOTION, LLC CEO, Larry Jaworske and Joel 'Mr. Motion' Rosen, literally stole the Show," said Kip Wasenko. Citing the SuperCoupe's …

Just wanted to throw a little tid bit on the 2005 Nextel Cup winner Tony Stewart. While yesterday’s race was not a stellar one for Smoke, he did what he had to do to win it all, and with a much better attitude than 2002. Chevy also won the NASCAR manufacturers title in 2005. The “boo” of the day goes to Dodge. Some Dodge teams actually brought the 2004 Intrepid bodies with them for the Homestead race since the flying brick-suckerfish of a Charger just wasn’t getting it done. And imagine if it was real stock car racing and you had to use the Charger’s actual silhouette? http://www.nascar.com/2005/news/headlines/...d.ap/index.html (And yes, if it was real "…

Just read an artical in Speedway Illistrated Dec 05. It had an artical that interviewed many in the NASCAR comunity. One item I found interesting was where they talked to Ford and NASCAR about the future of the BUSH series. I know it does not mean much now but it show others are looking for GM to build a Camaro for their own purpose. Quote "Of the three central NASCAR series The futrure of the Bush Series is the most under discussion, insiders insist. One possible fix: running cars that are completely different from the Cup cars, thus reducing the value of a Cup driver participate in a Saturday Bush race. A Ford executive admits his company would love to see…

A decent review and quite a respectable 0-60 time and a top speed of 145 MPH. I don't see how anyone can bitch about this car being FWD. It will blow the doors off of any RWD Monte,Camaro etc that me and my buddies used to drive back in the good old days.Check it out Here

Back in August I challenged you to test-drive some of our newest products and see for yourselves if they deserve the lavish praise I’ve been giving them. I spoke specifically of the Chevy HHR and Impala, Pontiac Torrent, Hummer H3, Pontiac G6 Coupe and the Solstice. It appears that at least some of you have taken me up on that, because those vehicles are getting attention in dealerships. The HHR in particular has been making a lot of headway in the marketplace. Chevy dealers are telling us they can’t get enough of them; they are selling them at about three times the rate they’d ordered them. About half of those sales have been conquest sales – from customers who pr…

Return of the Real Impala By John Pearley Huffman Date posted: 11-14-2005 If General Motors has a distinctive engineering tradition it's a weird commitment to V8 front-drivers. Since the introduction of the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado, GM has always had at least one V8-powered front-driver in its product line. Usually two. Despite all that history, this V8-powered, 303-horsepower 2006 Impala SS is the layout's first migration to Chevrolet. Dismissing this Chevy Impala SS as a pretender because it isn't rear-drive like the Impalas of yesteryear is a lazy cop-out. It's a cop-out because those old Impalas weren't that great and how this car compares to t…

The Chevrolet Impala has been the most popular American automotive nameplate of all time (I'm almost positive)... Which Impala was your favorite? I saw mine on Halloween night 1961, when my parents came home with a gleaming new 1962 Impala Sport Sedan (4-door hardtop), white with the red stripe down the belt line, and that gorgeous red interior with the subtle black stripes and chrome buttons; it had the small block 283 V8, Powerglide (2-speed) automatic transmission, and a rear-mounted radio mast antenna. I fell in love with the Chevrolet Impala that night, over 44 years ago, as a not-quite 10 year old kid, and I've been driving Chevrolets for almost my entire…

Last weekend while at the Purdue vs. Michigan State football game, my buddy noticed a 2007 Tahoe passing by us in the parking lot. We were really surprised to see one since production hasn't even started. We watched to see where it parked so we could check it out on the walk up to the stadium. When we got to it, we realized that it was a test vehicle because it had a sticker on the windshield that said exactly that. Plus, it had Michigan plates. Fortunately, I had a camera with me but it was only a cheap disposable camera. The pictures didn't turn out as good as I would have liked, but it's better than nothing. I thought it looked really good in person. The in…

America's Sports Car Becomes a Global Superpower By Karl Brauer Date posted: 11-10-2005 I'm catapulting the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 between apexes on a deserted, twisting canyon road in central California, and all I can think is, "Whatever you do, don't contract that annoying 'Jeremy Clarkson' strain of Tourette's syndrome!" The risk of blurting out all manner of multisyllabic drivel is very real, and the last thing I want is an involuntary impression of Britain's Top Gear host marring my otherwise enjoyable ride. Then it happens, coming out of a smooth left-hand sweeper in 2nd gear I dip into the 7.0-liter V8's enthusiastic 470 lb-ft of torque. The 3-inch…

After being very underwhelmed with the details of the regular Malibu and Maxx I looked at an SS (it was Silverstone) for the first time last night and can say I was VERY impressed. 10 times better than the craptacular GM PR shots. The Chevrolet SS wheels have really grown on me and they look especially good on the Maxx (The added weight of the wagon-esque profile complements the weighty look of the wheels very well) The "SS" badge on the side is placed correctly instead of awkwardly in never-never land like on the Impala and some of the first Cobalts. And the new nose looks excellent with it's more agressive grille material and bright accents, I also think…

Okay, these chevy commercials make me cringe every time they say the word "Impala." Is this a regional thing? I live in the pacific northwest, generally considered to have a very "clean" american english dialect and I have NEVER heard ANYONE pronounce the word IM-PAL-AH ("pal" as in friend) until these commercials. Everyone I have asked, from young to old has clearly pronounced it IM-PAULA (just like the girl's name) and that just sounds a heck of a lot better to me. I really wish chevrolet would change the commercials and fix this, unless, of course, everyone I know is saying it wrong So I guess I would like to conduct a informal poll... Which pronunciation do …

First, I don't.. I repeat.. DON'T want you guys saying the Camaro isn't coming. Haters, leave or don't comment. Now let's start some speculation! What do you expect to see at NAIAS, if, indeed, a Camaro concept is shown. Remember, it will be a CONCEPT, not a complete production model. Oh, and if you disagree with someone, that's okay. This is only personal speculation/hopes. My Speculation: Design: Front end will have one of two designs. One, quad headlights with a lower grille like the 4th Gen. Two, something like Horton's. Rear design will definitely have LEDs and the taillights will either be quad round ones or a panel lik…

Im thinking Spring Hill TN, because of the rumors over the summer that the next generation Ion would be built in Lordstown Ohio. the lansing crafte center because the SSR might get axed in the next two years. Doraville Ga if they lose the minivans, maybe Oshwa ontario.. Wilmington Delaware could have some extra capacity..

Since it's dayview, I haven't thought too much of this vehicle. After reading about it in the latest M/T mag I not anymore of a fan than before. What was GM thinking when designing this vehicle? Why the I-5 for one? Why isn't it just based off the Trailblazer with the 4.2? 14cty/19hwy is hardly good milage for a low output I-5 so using that motor for milage is no excuse. It's off road capability's rated well but that's where it stopped. It's slow, underpowered, can only tow 4500lbs for the price of a full size truck or decently equipped Avalanche. $30k base and $38k loaded!
