  5. We were doing work for a client and got into a discussion about cars. Guy went into a rant about the US auto industry and how screwed up American cars are. He said... "...the problem is we haven't punished Detroit enough. We ought to ban Chevy, Ford and Dodge from Nascar and put Honda in instead, because obviously Honda and Toytoa are the only two groups of people who can build a decent car." This is the rant thread. Rant away about this gent's stupidity if you wish. Chris

My granddad has had stage 4 cancer in his lungs and lymph nodes. This morning, hospice was to come and begin taking care of him. His wife told him that hospice was on their way. He immediately grabbed his 357 Magnum, went into the backyard behind his shed and shot himself in the head. He died instantly. He was 89. I will be away for a few days taking care of business. I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on.

So here is what I'm thinking I might do for a project sometime in the future, hopefully the near future. 1996 Chevrolet Camaro, bad engine, $700. Then I take out the engine, transmission, etc., and drop in a diesel, preferably a Duramax from a wrecked Chevrolet or GMC HD truck (isn't there a six cylinder version used in commercial-grade trucks, too?). I wonder what sort of manual transmission would work with the Duramax, or if all of this would even fit in a Camaro? Hmmm ...

I've learned I love junkyards. About 2 weeks ago, the theater dimming on the dash on the '92 Regal went on the fritz. I walked into Borders one evening, had coffee for an hour, and came back to see that the dash lights were STILL ON. I had to pull the panel fuse every time I left the car at night. I contacted a couple of Buick parts departments and they told me the dimming feature and the "lights-stay-on for 30 seconds after shutting door" was in the expensive light switch...a light switch costing over $ 300!!! I had to go to Portland over Columbus Day, so I found several old Regals at several pick-n-pulls. Swtiches were generically priced at under $ 10. I just inst…

Not those balls, pervs. I'm talking sports, as in I'm in a funk because there are no worthwhile sports this time of year. The NFL is a bunch of whiny, overpayed jackasses, and the games aren't really that exciting. College football is dead to me since Mizzou cant seem to beat a halfway decent team. The NBA is worthless, the only good part of the game is the last two minutes, since just about every game is close, but then there are timeouts after every play. I cant watch a basketball game when it goes to commercial every thirty seconds. College basketball doesn't interest me because all the best players are already in the NBA, plus neither Mizzou nor Missouri State i…

video I just find this funny. I guess diesel would make for a good drifter - you don't have to rev it as high. I can't imagine it's too easy to drift with four back wheels though.

I can't take it anymore. I have to get a new computer and I need it soon. This POS desktop of mine is hinging on my last nerve: the slowness, the loudness, the slowness, the ancient (by today's standards) monitor, the slowness, the fact that if I so much as touch the tower, the computer will inexplicably black out and require a hard reset (I'm not kidding) and did I mention the slowness? Then there's the laptop with a dead keyboard, dead touchpad, several dead LEDs, and a line of dead pixels in the corner of the screen. Plus, it's thick and heavy as hell, the battery life sucks (which wouldn't be that much of an issue if the AC jack worked properly...which it doesn't) a…

Okay... ... for YEARS I've been dealing with bad sinus conditions, FREQUENT sinus infections (to the point of having high fevers, shaking, etc.), constant sinus headaches from not draining, etc. I NEVER blow my nose. No matter how full my head is, nothing ever drains. I've gone to 2 ENTs, and they've both said basically, "you're kinda screwed." So, for the past 2 months, literally, I have not been able to breathe through my nose because of allergies... my sinuses have been full, my head in pain, and nothing is budging. It's hard on my students because when my nose is this full, they can't hear my pronunciation correctly, and it impacts their learning to a degree. …

Now that I'm getting close to leaving North America for Europe, I started thinking about all the assembly plants that I have had some sort of connection with that are no longer here. I was thinking about all those jobs that were lost and the people I knew that worked in those plants. The following plants were more special to me than others. Arlington Assembly plant, TX - Where I started my GM career, it's still there. Terrytown Assembly plant, NY - Actually in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Beautiful place to be in the fall with the leaves changing color, the plant was along the Hudson river. Linden Assembly plant, NJ - Always in my mind as the S10 plant, I truely miss the people…

  75. About exactly like the title says. What new vehicles are you anxiously awaiting a read about?? I know I'm really excited to read about a few vehicle.. On the obvious side, GT350/R. Then on the less obvious side is the new Tacoma. Nissan Titan XD and Continental. The new Titan with a Cummins 5.0..That thing has potential to really shake up the half ton segment. By no means do I think it'll dethrone the D3 but I think it will make great competition and hopefully one of the D3 will make something competitive to it. I believe it is rated 350hp and 550tq. Not too long ago that was the big diesel numbers. Now it's a "mid sized" diesel. The Continental makes me r…

You know... there are days I think my car doesn't like me and is trying to kill me. We had a bad snowstorm last night and the roads were crap... By the afternoon commute I was driving down the expressway @ 80KPH and all of the ice had melted. There was lots of spray and I set the wipers to "Mist". wouldn't you know it- in the middle of a busy expressway, the wipers go up and freeze in the full upright position ! I try all the wiper settings and all I get are angry motor noises from the wiper motor. Meanwhile my windshield is getting dirtier and dirtier because of the spray. Since there's nowhere for me to really pull over and turn the car off, I have to drive home …

  79. Me, the wife & kids got in the AURA yesterday around 2:15 PM and decided to head-up to NYC. We usually go before Christmas every year and typically for the whole day, but as we're getting older and have more to do, we're finding it harder to make the time to get there before the holidays. A very long 3 hours later (normally a 1.5 hour trip - too much traffic on the NJ Turnpike, a 40-minute wait to get into the Lincoln Tunnel, and traffic backups on all NYC streets should have made me turn around!), we're parking the car and walking around Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and on Fifth Avenue (a stop at the World of Disney NYC was a must). We ate at Planet Hollywood…

Too bad only a few were cleaned, and mine was covered (hah...prepping for the storm that hit soon after), but still interesting. Why? Especially now with gas prices, micro cars, etc., the whole driveway is still FULL of old GM boats, all daily drivers--with the one pretty new face of Malibu just standing out like the Suburban before it never did. Looks almost like land of the lost. First some overalls...and again, why I didn't do this before I put my car cover on, who knows.

Great weather for the show today - cool, crisp, and sunny. Took the '38 Dodge for what will likely be its last outing of 2008. Over 600 cars this year, the oldest of which was a 1904 Cadillac (no pic). I only took a few pics due to lots of looking around and BSing. And Imageshack seems to be on the rag tonight, so some are missing. (I'll try to add them) Enjoy:

For a loaner they sent over a Titanium Silver 2009 X3 xdrive 3.0i. Nice little suv I thought - loaded with full leather interior, ultra-view sunroof, cold weather package and a few other ammenities I am not used to seeing on a service loaner. It actually still works fine, except the battery is tired, and the recent replacement isn't much better. I can shoot about 12 pics B4 both are dead. For kicks, this lil unit cost right around $500 10 years ago (!!) but at least I got my money's worth (sold about $4k of stuff over the years). I primarily use a DC to shoot items I sell, so any image issues the relative quality level of the Canon has.... being an old hand @ PhotoShop- they are no problem. My boss has had 2 Escape 4WDs as his demos this winter, first a black Hybrid, and now an XLT V6. The few times I've gotten to drive them, I've been impressed with the solid, quiet ride on dry pavement. I asked him how the 4WD did for him in the snow, and he said he was unimpressed, said neither one felt like it was really pulling much with the rear wheels, even in deep snow where it surely would have been necessary. He said it was not like a pickup truck, where you shift it into 4WD and you can feel it work. Kind of disappointed me to hear him say that. I wonder if GM's AWD Equinox/Terrain system is similar to the Escape's in operation and in low-traction conditions …

I was amazed at the amount of trash people just throw out their car windows... like it's the middle ages or something. A big potato chip bag with half the chips strewn everywhere, coffee and soda cups and bottles, an orange condom, (used, ew) etc. etc... what are people thinking? How can people be so damn TRASHY? I sincerely hope everyone here takes their trash home and sticks it in the wastebasket.
