What is the worst thing you've ever done to a car to make it workable? i.e. I don't have the money to fix it right, so out comes the duct tape. Worst for me wasn't my car, but I helped my buddy do it... He had a '96 Cavalier. The front section on the frames of the J-bodies are extremely weak. If you hit anything in the front, the whole front of the car will come back and the door will buckle the quarter panel the next time you open it (seen this a few times!). This was not what happened to him, however. This was even worse - 2 people got in a fight beside his car while the door was open, and one of them got pushed in to the inside of the door, pushin…

Hey y'all. I just got out of the theater after seeing Ghost Rider. I have to say that the movie was definitely worth the money I laid down for it. Followed the comic series quite well and really was cast pretty well. I can't really go into the whole story of the Ghost Rider without giving away parts of the movie. All I have to say is that its worth it and really good. I enjoyed the world out of it (then again, that might have also been becuase it was just ME that went to the theater, no family attached). There were also the previews for Fantastic 4 II: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Spidey 3, both of which looked pretty good indeed. Anyway, has anyone else seen it…

I've always liked listening to ghost stories ever since I was a little kid. I've never actually seen a ghost before or had any ghostly encounters, but they still intrigue me. It's said that late at night here at ISU in the Memorial Union, you can hear low moans in the Great Hall, which has names inscribed upon its marble walls of Iowans who died in WWI and WWII. I haven't actually noticed any noises, but sometimes when passing through there late at night you can feel a slight breeze even though the doors are closed. -------- Also, near the town of Mount Ayr in southern Iowa, there is a small cemetery in the middle of a grove of trees called Tedrow Cemetery. Most of …

Ok get this I drove my new truck over to get my gf and her mom wanted to see it. So then her ignorant sister that I can't stand comes out and looks at it. Well then my gf tells me later she said my truck is ugly and that she is gonna use her truck and pull me around with it!!! What makes this even more funny is she has a TOYOTA Carolla and her truck is a 2005 Ford F-150. Makes sense it would be someone that drives a TOYOTA to run their mouth. By the way her Toyota was sideswiped in a hit in run in front of her house and was very close to being totalled. I told my gf she should have had me put my truck in 4 Wheel drive and run over top of it and finish it off the ugly piec…

Tonight I was supposed to go out with this girl I know for her 21st birthday, but she ditched me. Here's the whole story... I met her earlier this year...she lives on my floor pretty much across the hallway from me. We hung out quite a bit last semester, and things were good. Unfortunately, in November she had a falling out with a couple of people I am also friends with, and she hated them and they hated her, so I was kinda caught in the middle. Anyway, this semester we would always talk about going to see movies together or just hanging out. She'd always be suggesting we do something, and then when the time came and I tried to set something up, she'd either leave m…

Not again. Okay, my BIL just traded in his Cavalier for a Pontiac Aztek. He loves it, which is cool. Now, the wifie wants an SUV. Not a Tek, but a Jeep Liberty. The early models (because they look like Jeeps :sign0200: ) Since they killed her beloved Vibe, her heart is set on one of these things. I guess this could work, since I was planning to get her a used one anyways (car). I have to admit, do like the the looks of em'......... So, anybody have some good info on these things? I know older jeeps, but not these things.......

As soon as we finally get a car for Julie with our tax refund & I sell the Suburban I am SO getting that '61 Buick I've been obsessing over. Here's a great ad from the fall of 1960 that explaines EXACTLY how I feel about these cars: http://www.legendarygmmagazine.com/free/buick/61buickspe.php "The Special Size Buick Special: the Best of both Worlds." In other words: great MPGs without having to settle for a common "econobox". Notice the ad in question sits next to an ad for the 1959 Buicks... it's meant to be.

Wow, it seems only yesterday a cousin of mine was asking me advice on what trim level she should get in a Mazda Protege. Her 323 hatchback had racked up a lot of miles, and she was ready to get something "more mature". She was set on another Mazda (which she bought after her much-liked '82 Cavalier Type 10 hatchback got totalled in a rearend collision), so I told her she should go for the hotrod, the ES. She listened to me and got herself what has been a Great Little Car for her. We went to the Ren Faire in it today... 174k miles and still mechanically in good condition, she's never put a clutch in it, for example. It's a rattletrap, some of the interior parts show a…

It seems the forum software has been getting a little FUBAR here lately. First, my account was mysteriously deleted recently. Second, my PM inbox has been acting up and deleting new messages after I respond to them, and there are no copies of the PMs I send in my sent items folder. Third, the site seems to "stall" at times; meaning it doesn't load after a long period of time then re-loads as soon as I hit refresh, although slowly. And now I've been seeing this little oddity ... Anyone been encountering anything strange on the forums here lately?

I just got done doing a mileage conversion for the Opel Zafira. The one sold in Mexico gets approx 32 mpg. The others sold throughout the world with the 1.8 4-cyl get 37 to 38 mpg with 140 hp on tap. The diesel versions get over 45 mpg! We would save over $170 per month in gas by owing a Zafira over the Suburban. Yeah, it's not as big, but with the money saved I could pay for the roof carrier, and get a decent hotel when we travel. Heck, a trip to LA in a Zafira compared to our Suburban would save us over $300!! Even with the bigger engine. GM I WANT A ZAFIRA NOW. Please get your act together and bring us the good stuff. Just curious...this search that has stretched a couple months to replace my Avalanche (coming off lease in 5 weeks) is contiuning. My latest option is picking up something used in the US, and bringing it back to Canada. Prices are much more reasonable even after the exchange rate, as is the selection. After driving one here, of all things an 03 or 04 Escaldade ESV (maybe EXT), mainly because of the 6.0L. Maybe a Denali XL too. Important is that the wife likes it too (although I am sure she'd take a Suburban for a lot less $$, and no 6.0L engine). The one here I drove got sold the next day. I've read all up about the hoops that have to be jumped through at US Custo…

Hope this is ok to post here. I figured its not "GM News" worthy, but a little more laid back here. Does any Canadian dealer have an idea what GM is rolling out next? IE September 1st? My salesman have been mum on the subject. I looked at the board from this time last year and saw very little. I'm (sadly) giving up my 2004 Av in about a month or so when its off lease. The wife and I have decided on the HHR as a replacement (her Optra car is up in 15 months...so this will be hers then, then me, back to an Av or something else a little more substansial) Thanks to a few dealers, its clear there's not a lot left for 2006 in the HHR LS with options we want, in Canada…

My pics of what I no longer see on the road: 1. Buick Riviera. Yeah, I know I'm the small car fan here at C&G but for some reason I've always lusted after the Riv. Almost bought a silver 65 with dual 4v carbs when I bought the 66 Mustang fastback. Used to be several running around my old home town. I also miss the later 60's design and the sweet 70's boat tail design. Actually, I seldom see the sleek 90's version on the road either. 2. Olds Cutlass Vista Cruiser. So my friend is likely going to buy a CPO TrailBlazer on Tuesday. However, the dealer told him that the 2 year/30k mile maintenance that is included in the program is only good if he has the service done at their dealership. I'm pretty sure this is not correct, and that you can get the service done at an GM CPO dealer. However, I can't find anything that says so definitely either way. They claimed that the 2 year/30k mile was only good at their dealership, but the 12 month/12k mile bumper to bumper warranty is good anywhere, which doesn't make any sense to me. The dealer is reimbursed by GM for the oil change and tire rotations, so I don't see why it matters which dealer…

ish, that Opel influence is something. Test drove a Vue tonight. So now, in addition to my mancrush on the Astra XR, I have a similar mancrush on the Vue XR. The 4 cyl XE even too. Solid as a rock. The XR has mucho cajones under the hood. XE shocked me, i had to look at the Monroney to make sure it was only a 4 cyl. Corners on rails, for a crossover. HOW DO THEY SELL RAV4's? There is no comparison. The new Forester is junk by comparison. (yes, i've driven both of those). Yup, I'm a Saturn fan now. Sorry folks. Still like the other GM stuff, but Opel's done it homework here. Now if they could just get the word out! (and the prices down)

In recent years my wife and I have had GREAT luck with the GM dealers (besides the Saturn dealer). Don't get me wrong, they've made mistakes but they always make amends for their error. Most importantly they ALWAYS make sure to provide professional customer service. If I wasn't such a GM fan I would have headed down to the toyota dealer to trade in my Buick by now. Not because the car isn't great, which it is. But because of POOR customer service. The story is long. For those that have time (also very rough as I wrote quickly with little regard to grammar and such) . . . My experience with the Buick/Cadillac/GMC/Pontiac Dealer in McMinnville, OR – Larsen Motor…

The GM Heritage Center was excellent! So many beautiful cars and a great environment. I have changed my mind. GM could leave this open for GM employees because if it is opened to the public, the cars may get wrecked or ropes may be put around them. There is an amazing amount of cars in there as well. Our Ford Expy felt lonely out in the parking lot. MightyMouse we missed your Malibu. I will post pics on Sunday or whenever.

Last night, I was over looking around at the Cadillac/Chevrolet dealership in Coldwater, and there was a used Seville SLS next to a used STS V6. It is just unbelieveable how far GM's interiors have come in just one generation of its products. Those who haven't compared the then and nows obviously need to take this little factor into consideration. However, I would prefer real aluminum trim in the top level STS's over the real would. The metal looks more modern (to me, at least). Might have done a poll, but don't know how yet, or didn't notice. So, what do you think? Seville Interior STS Interior

Jamie LaReau Automotive News December 24, 2007 - 12:01 am ET DETROIT — General Motors plans to chop pickup production in January, but it may be too late to avoid a fire sale. As of Dec. 1, inventories of the Chevrolet Silverado (153 days supply) and GMC Sierra (150 days) were bloated despite $5,000 rebates on 2007 models. The market for full-sized pickups has been soft since the housing industry went bust. But inventories of rival brands Ford, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan are closer to the industry norm of 60 days. As of Dec. 1, Chevrolet had 233,800 unsold Silverados, which is not a huge increase over its inventory of 219,600 units a month earlier. So what went…

Lets face it the latest cars out of GM are light years better than what it had been producing for the last twenty years. Look at the new Caddy's and the new Vette not to mention the SSR and the new SUV's and I think the company should be renamed to pay tribute where it is due. On this forum the new name for GM should be... LUTZWAGON!!!!! Can i get an amen brothers and sisters. :metal:

2005 alone I've been very good to teh General: One of my students <who just got her license> - bought a 2005 Chevy Cobalt Coupe in January after asking me for advice(originally considering a Scion TC); Mom & Dad - bought a 2005 Saturn VUE AWD V6 in Febraury after asking for my assistance (originally looking for either a Jeep Liberty or Ford Escape); Sis & Bro-in-law - leased a 2005 GMC Envoy XL SLT 4WD in May after consulting with me (originally considered either a Honda Pilot or Nissan Pathfinder - both with 3rd row seats); Me & the Wife - leased a 2005 GMC Envoy SLT 4WD last Friday; My best friend - having owned a Nissan Maxima since 2001, w…

The new devices section of General MOtors actually cares about what I think... they sent me a cool form letter saying I need to re-submit my ideas for the 5th gen. Camaro. My biggest & most important "hot-button" is that they keep the hardtop greenhouse for production. Check out the letter they sent: http://i3.tinypic.com/117qtug.jpg http://i3.tinypic.com/117ra76.jpg ------

Why does GM not build RHD cars in the US for export? In South Africa you can buy an RHD BMW made in Spartainburg, South Carolina, An Accord built in Ohio to RHD specs, and soon Ford will be selling RHD Mustangs down there. Wouldn't GM get some great market penetration in foreign markets were they to ship RHD cars overseas? IIRC, the only RHD car GM ships overseas in the Ampera. How many RHD Amperes are sold? Seems to me that GM is being a little short sighted.

It was a Grey day, but still a good day to drive our Hot Rods to work.... The 100 year anniverary GM Car Show was better than last year's show, but lacked the sunshine and enthusiasm of some others I have seen....A lot of LS powered cars were in attendence, and I took a lot of pics, but afterwards they seemed lame because of the cloud cover. Anyway, some rides captured the feel so here they are: Rare Beautiful Buick ....Guess wtf it is! Jimmy's Buick -this guy has a barn full of cool cars Coolest Rat in attendence by far! 2nd coolest....Mopar w/ ford power ....go figure. cool fabs everywhere Chris Karras is a good guy I know...Even tho h…

The GM TEN fashion show was held Tuesday, February 28, 2006 in Hollywood. Its the 5th annual show, that pairs celebrities with cool GM cars. For instance, Eva Longoria walked the runway alongside a Corvette Z06, Lindsay Lohan strutted with a Saturn SKY, and Carmen Electra (in a hot red dress) was followed by a Solstice GXP. I was reviewing pictures from the show, and past shows, and noticed something interesting. In 2003, they showed a 1964 Pontiac GTO. AT NAIAS 2004, we got the all new Goat. In 2005, there was a 67' Chevy Camaro. NAIAS 2006 had the lovely Camaro concept. At this years show, there was a modified (and menacing) black 1965 Chevy Impala. At NA…

Reuters March 17, 2008 - 6:25 am ET NEW DELHI (Reuters) -- General Motors wants to launch a second small car in India in the next two years as it looks to capitalize on growth in emerging markets to offset any sluggishness in U.S. sales, a senior company official said. The model will not compete directly with Tata Motors' low-cost Nano but will be cheaper than GM's current lowest priced car in India, David Reilly, GM group vice-president, told a news conference on Monday. Small cars less make up nearly three-quarters of India's market. GM offers the Chevrolet Spark in the sector for about 300,000 rupees ($7,350). "We need some thing lower than what we have got…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yxaV8zdEu4 If GM was serious about maximizing fuel efficiency in a production model, why not revisit the 1992 GM Ultralite concept car with today's technological advances? Sorry, I was watching Demolition Man on TV this morning. I decided to Google more about this car and found the above YouTube video. This would seem to be a more viable option than going hybrid or electric. Food for thought!

Lately on cable the movie "Demolition Man" (1993) has been playing a lot. I've alawys liked this movie, (1) because it's a movie based in the future, and (2) because all of the vehicles in it are from GM (what a future!). It's not the greatest movie of all time and some of it's plot is a little "too out there" for realism, but I find it to entertain me well enough. Anyway, I've always wondered where all of the GM Ultralites came from as featured in the movie. Many are police cars, but if you look close enough you'll see some "civilian" versions driving around. That and the fact that one civilian version is used in the "Bicentennial Man" (1999) and "A.I. - Artificial…

I wanted to spruce up my desktop a little bit, so I made a GM wallpaper that is an optimistic look at where the company has been and where it's headed. It's sized for my monitor, which is widescreen (1280x1060 I think) but could probably be used on regular monitor dimensions if the "stretch to fit" option isn't selected. ~800x600 Full size image: http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/9645/gmbackground2vd8.jpg

Dutch Mandel--GM Next: Why it will be around for the coming century By DUTCH MANDEL As General Motors looks toward its centennial celebration in September, today might go down in its history as the moment when its corporate life was saved. That's because its much-maligned chairman, Rick Wagoner, announced massive triage measures aimed at keeping the patient alive. His message should resonate from Wall Street to Main Street. Wagoner and his creditable management team--led by no-nonsense COO Fritz Henderson--addressed all areas of the business. Yes, GM made some "easy" calls. It will hasten to shutter plants it targeted earlier in the year for closure; those facil…

Donna Harris Automotive News September 10, 2007 - 12:01 am EST General Motors says it is tossing the results of some recent customer satisfaction surveys because dealers tampered with the responses. That decision could cost offending dealerships big factory bonuses. GM surveys customers who buy new vehicles or submit factory warranty claims about their satisfaction with the dealership's performance. Dealerships that get high scores on those surveys and meet sales targets are eligible for quarterly cash incentives that can reach six figures. The satisfaction surveys are sent to customers' homes to discourage dealer influence. Customers respond by mail or onlin…

Name the car given. It can be any General Motors car from 2000-present, and can be found on NetCarShow.com. The person who correctly guesses the car gets to choose the next car to have others guess, but have the car cropped to give only a preview! If possible, without giving away the car, give a specific detail (s) to separate the car, making it easier, and not so vague. Along with the car, state the year it was officially shown by GM, may it be as a concept or production vehicle. NO SPY SHOTS! DO not post your preview until the person who posted thecar says whether or not it is correct. After a certain amount of guesses, the poster of the previewed car can give a second …

I am on vacation and in the Southland heading for my home in Texas to see my mother, then after that on to California. We have stopped for the night. GM will let you know what it plans to do as far as cost cutting goes within the corporation, this will happen at 8:30 AM tomorrow. Expect to see many engineers assigned to frozen projects let go, I will let you speculate on which products they are but be aware there will be a shake-up of GM's product portfolio. Most of the cuts will come from GMNA, GM's home market, some engineers have been reassigned to small-car projects, however GM will be a smaller company with a thinner product line so there could be thousands let…

Is it offered on manual cars? I was thinking about it because I'd like to get an auto start on the Cobalt (I think I'll opt for an '07), but the SS SC Coupe I'd be looking at only comes in a 5 Speed Manual.

It really hasn't been mentioned very much...or at all, but there seems to be absoulutely no closure as to wheter or not either company activley helped the Nazis. Critics say they knew and willingly helped build tanks and aircraft and whatnot, but the companies themselves say the Nazis wrested control of the factories away from them. Believe me, there's nothing that I'd rather believe more than that Ford and GM actually did have their plants taken over, but with all the criticism I found online, the whole thing gets a bit fuzzy. So I guess let's try to get some closure on this topic.

Does anyone know what 2014 GMC Sierra is on display at the Chicago Auto Show? The Philadelphia Auto Show had a Stealh Gray Metallic on display, while mystik posted a Quicksilver one on display at the Houston Auto Show. I believe an Onxy Black All Terrain Sierra was on display at the NAIAS, not sure if any other colors were shown there.
