We'll my "youngster" is graduating this year. She has been the kryptonite in my pocket. Through her I got the chance to relive my adventurous youth from time to time. Now its time for us to put together a colage of photos and a message. Well, Im not going to write all the usual "were proud of you, you can do anything you put your mind too, you are the rythmn of our hearts".....ect..ect..ect..ect.. No! not me, I have to give something more, something from within, something with thought and deep internal meaning within the family. I have writtin' some great stuff in the past, for songs, but I seemed so hard pressed to come up with anything for this, my daughter and it rea…

Rain rain & more rain... makes for a wet & damp roadtrip. As some of you know I attended a Nissan Club Meet at the Grafton Lakes State Park, NY this past weekend. It was raining when I left Mass, it rained the WHOLE time I was there and rained even heavier on the way back. Western Mass & NY better have some sick May Flowers this year, that's all I have to say. The Meet was fun but the cars and events were dismal. The lack of attendance was chalked up to the crappy weather but the people who did show up were cool so it was a fun roadtrip. As it turned out, most of the guys there were from Altimas.net but the mix of cars was pretty hilarious. 3…

After watching that Drug Addled Amy Winehouse edge out Taylor Swift for best new Artist, which is, I believe, setting a bad example... I saw that Alan Jackson's smooth-flowing song, "A Woman's Love", got edged out by Keith Urban's "Stupid Boy" for best Male Country Performance- Anyone who's heard both songs would surely agree that Alan was robbed.... Did anyone else watch this year or happen to want to weigh in as well?

I am going to be starting a job soon and I have some money saved up so I may try to find a good Grand Am coupe for sale. I absolutely have loved Grand Ams, any generation and I have always wanted one as a first car. Pontiacs are great and I think I may rather get a Grand Am. Sporty looks, fair amount of power. I think I might try to find a 90s Grand Am coupe. I see plenty around but no body seems to be getting rid of any. They are beautiful cars nonetheless. I am scrapping all ideas except for a Grand Am, possibly a Sunfire, and some 3800 V6 vehicles. My dad has the idea of me getting a car with absolutely no rust. Up here with all the salty roads, there is no such thing…

Our retail for Federated Co-operatives Ltd. (Pioneer Co-op) in Swift Current, Saskatchewan is donating the Grand Prize for a fund raiser to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of operating. To celebrate those 30 years, we're giving away a car that was built the very year this business first started. We just rolled it in when we closed up for the night. My granddad has had stage 4 cancer in his lungs and lymph nodes. This morning, hospice was to come and begin taking care of him. His wife told him that hospice was on their way. He immediately grabbed his 357 Magnum, went into the backyard behind his shed and shot himself in the head. He died instantly. He was 89. I will be away for a few days taking care of business. I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on.

She's sitting in front of the camera on Local 4 for the NAIAS Charity Preview. Well, she's with her husband and son. The reporters ask her (like 12 year old) son what his favoite vehicle here is and he says, "Well that one over there *pointing at some Jeep*" and Granholm just has to say, "Well he does have enough money for it." Then they're asking her about why this show helps Detroit (read: Big 3) out so much. She responds by saying that it's both an "offensive and defensive strike. They're now seeing that the Chinese are huge competitors and are coming soon. They're going to really have to step their game up if they want to compete with the Chinese automakers." What a…

I bet evryones probably heard of Ethanol or E85, most probably think its great, thinkin they wanna some sort of flexible fuel vehicle so you can even use it. I dont blame em, i mean for almost 1/2 the price why not bye soemthing that will chug corn. To start off, it takes 3 times more energy to make one gallon of ethanol then it does to make gasoline, So if thats the case why is it so much cheaper than gasoline? Goverment funding. The government is deliberately raising gas prices just so youll lean to buyin ethanol, and like i said it takes 3 times more the enrgy so sssintialy 3 times more the money, then how is the goverment pulling this off? theyre not it just mak…

I have an ax to grind with gravel trucks. They're constantly on the Don Valley Parkway, and I have no idea why, there are no gravel yards around. About half the time I see one, they have rock screenings flying out of the back all over the road, and this morning a rock about half the size of a golf ball flew out of the back of one, bounced loudly off my hood and again off my roof. I have so many little chips all over the place from these trucks. Why is this legal?? Shouldn't unsecured loads like this be some kind of safety violation? Caledon township (not too far away) has a much larger problem with gravel trucks. articleApparently these gravel truck drivers who are dr…

The latest version of Autoline Detroit makes me think that the press is starting to get the idea that the foreign cars aren't so hot. Comments on the new accord include, loud & buzy. toyota isn't given much for positive comments on their current state. It was even noted that a few years ago the head of toyota bowed and appologized to Heads of State in Japan only to have the years following have toyota continue to produce poor quality products. http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/

The HCCP grand finale show is today at Delaware County Community College in Media, PA. This is a huge event with cars from the brass era to today, and is laid out in tiered parking lots that are divided into categories. If you are within striking distance, you ought to make the trip. It is usually 700+ cars, and features a flea market. I'll be going at some point during the day. The event runs from now (10 AM) until about 3PM. I've already been seeing the classics cruising RT 252 on their way to the show.

I saw this in my Facebook stream, from Clarkson: I could make a cheap car if I built it in a factory made from wattle and mud, paid the workers in rice and motivated them into a 20-hour day with whips and flame throwers. I don't know if this is in reference to the Tata Nano or not, but thought it was hilarious

So I saw in the Circuit City ad that there was a 46" Sharp Aquos 1080P LCD TV for $1200 off ($2499 down to $1299), and so me and my mom went out to see if anyone was already waiting at about 10PM last night, and there were 25 or so people in line, so we scratched that idea. Then today we went to Best Buy just to compare some and see which looked the best (more on that below), and we saw the same TV there, this time for $1399 ($100 more, but it didn't involve standing in line for 10 hours to get it). We compared all the TVs of that size, and decided it was one of the better, with only the Sonys being definitively better. After comparing all the TVs for quite some time, I…

Gotta check out the "OA" and "Travelers" on Netflix.. oh and one called "Black Mirror." I just finished "Luther" which stars Idris.. this one completely got by me. Seriously one of the best shows I have ever seen. "Hacksaw Ridge" Mel Gibson directed this biographical story of Desmond Doss, a medic in WWII and the taking of Okinawa Japan. Watched last night and it was damn good. "American Honey" About this girl who hooks up with these traveling magazine sales kids and gets into so me very interesting shit. Stars Sasha Lane and Shia LaBeouf)

I haven't been able to find it on YouTube, but tonight I noticed an ad for the Nissan Altima that opened up with acutal quotes from Motor Trend and Car and Driver reviews of the Toyota Camry. Both quotes directed insult to the Camry, with the Car and Driver quote saying the Camry was "dull as dishwater." You know who should be making an ad just like that for their mainstream sedan, right? Bravo to Nissan for doing what a certain car company never had the balls to do.

Yesterday, with over a quarter of a million miles, I put the 4th serpertine belt at a blended GM dealership a little further out since they had a good parts and labor price (about $90). I had a great experience visiting that service department. This is actually the third such experience. a) At a Costco in California, I went in there for a tire rotation. There was this real weird guy who (a) wouldn't rotate my tires front to back as I had requested because he wanted to do the diagonal rotation, but did so after I kept arguing with him, and (b) while talking to him, told me that frequent oil changes (even 3,000 miles) hurt the car more than changing the oil infrequent…

Found this on Yahoo about 9 models that blow you away with small engines. First and foremost is this from the story: Qoute "Sedan or coupe, the compact Caddy is among the industry’s best-kept secrets, more fun to drive than even a BMW 3-Series. That lively, engaging personality is best experienced with the 2.0-liter turbo four, rather than the pricier and more pedestrian 3.6-liter V-6, or the outright anemic 2.5-liter four sans turbocharger." Over all a great read and even SMK's lowly Mercedes Benze gets a spot. https://www.yahoo.com/autos/nine-models-that-prove-small-engines-can-beat-big-116392112457.html

If you've been eastbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway, you may have seen this written on a billboard: Dear Steven, I hope I have your attention. PS: I paid for this billboard with OUR joint bank account. As soon as I noticed that no brands, products, or services were mentioned on the billboard anywhere, I was awe-struck. I just spent 4 miles and about 4 minutes behind a Toyopet Camry that was blocking the passing lane in a 65mph zone, driving about 65/70 and refusing to yield after several motorists flashed their lights, honked horns & even flipped him off. This stretch of highway is usually flowing at about 85mph this time of day, same traffic flow, and all else being the same. Freightliners carrying gasoline tankers & Mack trucks hauling bulldozers were whizzing by him in the center lane while a line of about a dozen cars is behind this inconsiderate prick. Outrageous.

Stumbled on this: http://conceptrends.com/2009/03/15/green-f...in-south-korea/ I learn something every day. Apparently in Korea, trees don't require space for roots, and there aren't horrific winds at skyscraper heights! Some of the balconies may be ok (and some probably intolerably windy), but I can tell you this - those parks in the spaces that are open all the way through the building aren't going to have a single leaf on the trees. Wind tunnel anyone? The general idea is neat, but overall it seems like the ideas that make it interesting and unique are the most flawed.

WASHINGTON - Alan Greenspan says the country can't afford tax cuts of the magnitude proposed by Republican presidential contender John McCain — at least not without a corresponding reduction in government spending. "Unless we cut spending, no," the former Federal Reserve chairman said Friday when asked McCain's proposed tax cuts, pegged in some estimates at $3.3 trillion. "I'm not in favor of financing tax cuts with borrowed money," Greenspan said during an interview with Bloomberg Television. "I always have tied tax cuts to spending." McCain has said that he would offset his proposed cuts — including reducing the corporate tax rate and eliminating the Alternative M…

I don't consider myself handy but... this was pretty easy actually. I just put in a window mount air conditioner. I had to take out a fixed pane of glass to do it. I just ripped out some sheilding and pushed on the window, and it came off the caulking and popped right out. I was worried I was going to break it putting it in. The only problem is that I can't find my caulking, or my duct tape, so right now all the air leaks are sealed with scotch tape. Yes, its actually strong enough - 3M makes some good scotch tape, apparently. So, what else around the house is surprisingly easy? Has anyone else fixed something or installed something that they can give tips on? While …

Well, if this doesn't solidify the fact that the GT500 is a porky, underperforming "performance" car, I don't know what does: http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83159 4130lbs (and it's not even the convert!), 56/44 weight distribution, 1/4 mile in 13.1 and $47k+ does not seem to appealing to me. A 2006 GTO with a good driver and a couple simple bolt-ons will beat the GT500 for $15k less, and that's before dealer markups. And what's the point of having 500HP if it's made at redline? Unless the fuel cut-off is well above redline, the 500HP is only available for a very short time.

It looks like it is set in Liberty City (which now has many realistic-looking New York landmarks like the Empire State Building, MetLife [GetALife] Building, Flatiron Building, and Chrysler Building), but I've heard rumors the next GTA would also take place in Europe...maybe they're hinting at Eastern Europe?

It's a Loooooong story but in a nutshell I have a 1970 Cadillac Coupe Deville sitting on my front lawn right now. As well as two 80s AMCs. A red SX/4 and poop-brown Concord Station wagon parts car. The Coupe Deville has a VERY interesting history involving a funeral parlor, deceased owner and how it was driven for only 7 miles when new and then it sat in a garage for over two decades. Now it has (supposedly) only 29K original miles and yet New England winters have pretty much made it a parts car. There's enough rust on it to plug the hole in the Titanic. Still, just haivng a 1970 Cadillac on your front lawn is cool. I love starring at it. Now I have TWO 2-doo…

Remember, he's not Chris Doane. Also, I have sold my brother to some creepy old guy that with a little boy fetish to pay for it... So enjoy him, damnit!

Before my brother's wedding last weekend, he sent me an email, inviting me to a BBQ this weekend. I had every intention of going camping this weekend, and I told him what I was going to do, with the qualification that if it rains, I would be at his house and not stuck in the woods in a tent waiting for the sun. It rained. I read the email as the BBQ was going to be today, and I was all set to show up at my bro's house this afternoon... but, stupid me, I reread the email last night, and the BBQ was yesterday at 3 pm. Now I missed out on camping and my brother's BBQ. Happy 4th, oh yeah. And I feel guilty for not paying closer attention to the date in his note. He le…

What are some guilty pleasures you're not ashamed to admit? For me, I'm not ashamed to admit that, although I consider myself a "Rear-drive first, front-drive last" enthusiast, there are some front-drive cars that make me stop and pay attention. A brief list would look like... -1966 Olds Toronado and 1990 Olds Trofeo -1994 Olds Aurora -1998 Olds Intrigue -2005 Chevrolet Cobalt -2005 Mazda 3 -1998 Buick Regal GS -2006 Ford Fusion

This is a thread for gun enthusiasts, no matter how many or how little firearms you have, here's the place to talk about them. JUST TO BE CLEAR, this thread should contain NO political views or standpoints. It is only here to discuss the guns themselves. This thread over at MT was one of the very few that was able to remain civil throughout its rather lengthy existence. I have no doubt a more civilized group can do the same or better.

WASHINGTON – An elderly gunman opened fire with a rifle inside the crowded U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday, gravely wounding a security guard before being shot. Authorities said they were investigating a white supremacist as the possible shooter. The assailant was in critical condition, said Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty. D.C. Police Chief Kathy Lanier said the gunman appeared to have acted alone. He was "engaged by security guards immediately after entering the door" with a rifle, she said. The museum normally has a heavy security presence with guards positioned both inside and outside. All visitors are required to pass through metal detectors at…

I haven't shot an actual gun, I was wondering what a nice hand gun would be. Someone told me to go with a 9mm, Im a big guy so Im not concerned about being knocked down or anything. Just something with a little power that qould be good for target shooting. I wanted a H&K for the longest time, still do, but looking at maybe a Glock now, their supposed to be great and cheeper than the H&K too! Any suggestions?

I have a membership to 24 Hour Fitness, which I bought in Northern California in 1996. They charge my bank account, you guessed it, $ 24 a month. They are all over the West and in other states as well, judging from the map. I also belong to Bally's which I bought when I moved to the Seattle area(there are about 10 in Oregon, too). It's such a cheap renewal now that I just pay it because I would spend more in join-up fees if I moved. For example, ATL and FL have Bally's, but not 24 Hour Fitness. OK, the "low cost" gyms have problems of their own...the clientele they attract. In June, before moving up North, I went to 24 Hour Fitness the evening that a friend was goi…

I've been a member of Planet Fitness since 2006. It's OK I guess. I mean, for $15/month, what do you want? A while back I was robbed there when a miscreant broke my puny lock and stole all the cash out of my wallet. Kinda put a chill on things. And before that I was growing ever more meh about the joint. So I stopped in to LA Fitness today and took the tour. Kid took me around and through the whole place. They have a pool (good exercise kickin' water around), a steam room (my sinuses are ruined, a sauna should help that), free classes, a free personal training session, and whatnot. But kid giving tour lost points when the first thing he said when I tole him I am …

A few weks ago my buddy Ross introduced me to this awsome website. This guy calls himself Mister Jalopy and he's awsome. Almost like a modern day hero in a comic book kind of way. Wacked out and scatter brained but in the coolest way possible. Really spend some time and poke around the site. He's a madman. I need to have a website like this... no real specific topic just a bunch or random cars I work on and "useless" junk I collect that I consider treasure, documented roadtrips to "exotic" locations like some hidden treasure speedshop. Seriously, check it out. One of the best websites I have ever seen! http://www.hooptyrides.com/

so, if I was to consider an H3 as my next daily driver, would that be absurd? consider this, they are leasing cheap right now. and they have utility. mpg is better than say, a tahoe and not really that much worse than an SRX or acadia or edge or explorer or something. I would be looking at a base model H3 with a stick. I'd really like a stick again. No doubt I would bear wrath from a couple coworkers, who despise cars and SUV's in particular, and such. Screw them I say. I'll run over their little MAAAZZZZZZdahs. Isn't an H3 just a tarted up trailblazer with greater off road capability? they aren't too big, and they really look cool, and its a GM product. …

Today, after months of letting the breeze outside in the street, my dad finally took it for brakes. The light was on, and the pedal went to the floor. I had been telling him for months to take it in, not good to let it rot. And now, we have to pay $450 because the back brake system is a mess and the front needs new pads. O how right I was and he didn't listen.

Today my M5 went in for service (to say that the dealer will be ripped a new one is an understatement but that is for later) as the 'Certified' process was never actually completed, they just threw on a set of tires and called it good. For a loaner they sent over a Titanium Silver 2009 X3 xdrive 3.0i. Nice little suv I thought - loaded with full leather interior, ultra-view sunroof, cold weather package and a few other ammenities I am not used to seeing on a service loaner. We put her through her paces today, and here are some observances: Good: The 3 liter in-line 6 is a marvel. Smooth, turbine like power and smooth shifts from the 6-speed transmission make the l…

Just a quick update, since I'm exhausted and not only did it all happen so fast, it happened during me preparing, giving, grading, and filing for, a State Exam. I lost hearing in my right ear for a month. Doctors determined it was full of fluid, but why wasn't it draining? Turns out after tests and a catscan, there was a growth inside my head causing pressure and blockage. Anyhoo, doctor insisted it come out right away because it was large and of my age it and its location, there were possibilities of cancer. I went in, it seemed odd that both of the nurses attending me (one in Ambulatory Surgery, and one in the OR) actually spoke Italian. The last thing I rememb…

Rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated! I have been in the USA working on something and waiting for my surgery date to come up, well today was the day for my surgery. They started the surgery at 6 AM, and it continued until 10 AM when they wheeled me out in a wheelchair. All I can say is thank God we arrived in the NOX, as I would not have been able to get into the Grand Prix GXP as it sits to low to the ground. I should be back up to full speed by Friday. I Hope so, I have plans to go t Hershey Park, PA Friday. Back to GME Headquarters next week and hopefully back my regular routine and a little special Holden that has been waiting for me. :AH-HA_wink:

I was drafted to move a very large item (think boat-sized and boat-shaped) yesterday but didn't do it, so I had to do it this morning. Obviously my Fusion isn't equipped to tow one of these so I had to borrow something. There is at least one Outlook in the fleet, but it was gone today, so I was left with either a Durango (ew!) or one of the dozen or moreTundras sitting there. I'll say this, the Tundra tows easily and rides very well with a trailer in tow.

The last car (and my only new car) I bought is my 1992 Regal. I still have it, as most of you know (** as you scream Cheapskate! **) The MSRP sticker was $ 18,736 and I got it for $ 16,900 without even saying a word. I went in there with a typed list of all the codes and MSRPs...I guess they don't see that often. So, on 5-16-92, right after getting back to Portland from Champaign IL (bleh!), I took delivery of the car. Now, the MSRPs on the sleds I am currently looking at are in the $ 23,500 to $ 24,500 range. Some have incentives of $ 1,000 or $ 1,500, for example. In your mind, that means that you should be able to get the initial deal (the dealer's "issue" - …
