Well boys and girls, I haven't had my truck running very well for quite some time. I tore the carburetor off, tore it apart, and well, the power valve was blown out. So I replaced it, put the carb back together, snotted it back onto the truck, got the adjustments back together, and cranked it up. It ran like a bloody top! It feels so wonderful to have my truck back in proper working order. It runs, purrs, roars, snorts, and well, I have to curse it every now and again, but it works GREAT! I'm going to be driving it to the local cruise in this Saturday night (by the way, also my birthday), so y'all wish me luck, I should have lots of pictures of the event, and of cou…

Here's a sequence of photographs showing some damage done to a parked Mazda RX-8 near Ottawa. The result. The damaged Mazda and the offending vehicle's garage. Long shot showing the Mazda and the vehicle that did the damage to it. Yes, that's an M1A1 Abrams tank. A company in Ontario does work on the M1A1 Abrams tank, and their work requires them to have one on site. When taking it out of storage yesterday, the driver had a little problem.

Time for a new 'WYR' installment. The unloved-by-many Praning Horse halo supercar is beginning to be looked upon more fondly these days. In a world of hybrid hyper cars, the sharp, less digital approach to mega speed inevitably has begun to win over more fans. That said, 650ish horsepowers ain't so much anymore, not in a world of muscle cars, luxury sedans, and even SUV's touting similar or larger numbers. There's a who's who of supercars with over 600hp these days, and one of the most powerful is the new Aventador SV. Looking as much like a F Zero racer and stealth fighter hybrid as much it does a car, it has all the drama and aggressiveness one associates with L…

I get my gas at a local convenience store. There is a lady at the counter in there, about 60 years old. Every time I go in there, she asks me about my car. Does it have Onstar, I need to try the turn-by-turn, is it an '09, it's a nice looking car, she has a Torrent, same as the Equinox, but she likes it, her husband likes Cobalts... etc. etc. When I had my Sierra, I always went to another place to get gas, but before the Sierra, with my Colorado, I used to go in there, and she would always tell me her husband had a Colorado, and that mine was nice looking. It's kind of amusing, especially when she repeats herself every time I see her, but it's also kinda nice to he…

In all the complaining about GM have cheap interiors, I decided to check out hondas. We all wonder why they never complain about the civics digital speedo, when GM was blasted for using digital dashes. But did you know their stock stereo is 2 different colors and one of the colors doesn't even match the interior at any point? Compare that too a black tie stereo in the Cobalt. On the other hand, atleast you can replace the stereo in the civic unlike the accord.

Logitech MX Revolution. Got it for X-mas after wanting it for over a year. Yeah baby! I love thing thing for so many reasons. First, it's the most comfortable mouse I have ever used or held. It's ergonomics are superb and the build quality and materials used are very nice. It has rubber inserts for your thumb to rest, the primary buttons are a one piece design, and the other buttons are nicely finished. Then there's the scroller, which is quite amazing. It's made out of alloy and not plastic with rubber grip in the center. It features what Logitech calls SmartShift technology, where the mouse can switch between from normal scrolling to nearly frictionless scrol…

The Toyota Prius is the most fuel efficient vehicle in its class, very roomy, relatively affordable and Hanna Montana drives one. Maybe that last point is why some people are beginning to show hostility towards the car that's become the Kleenex of hybrids. Andy Richter and James Adomain of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater have played off the Prius backlash in a faux car commercial pitting the Hyundai Elantra against Toyota's famous hybrid. Richter, formerly of Late Night with Conan O'Brien fame and not much since, plays the part of the frugal-minded Hyundai owner with an underlying anger issue, while Adomain gets all spiffed up to play the snobbish know-it-all with t…

...a baby fox that is. The thing just wandered across the lane as I was heading home. I stopped the Tahoe and got out to check it out and the little tyke ran right up to me and followed me around. I called the other folks on the property and they all came to see. Finally, my employers' son-in-law just picked him up, and then handed him to his wife. She tucked him inside of her vest and he immediately went to sleep. Interesting end to the day.

looking on the AutoTrader website I happened to come across a 2005 Cobalt SS SC lease takeover for only $234 per month. I was astonished as I didn't expect a car this nice for anything less than $350 per month, even when leased. I am not worried about the requirement for 91+ octane because I found out that instead of creating a price war by selling cheaper gas, some stations sell 90, 92 and 94 for the prices of 87, 89 and 91 respectively. My budget is pretty tight right now, so I will need a part-time job to pay for it. However, I do have quite a bit of free time. I have one simple question for you guys: Should I go for it?

What options does "your" (the one you consider mostly yours) vehicle have that you don't want/need? What would you add if you had the chance to? I'll use the Camaro for this... What I don't want/need on it: I really don't need a power driver's seat. Manual seats are particularly easy to use and easier to uninstall from the car. Another thing is a cigarrette lighter, but the ashtray is fine because that's where I store my cell phone. Some things that would've been sweet: AWD for sure. I've been thinking about it lately and damn would it be nice, especially in this snow. Automatic start just to warm the car up w/out going outside…

I saw a lot of cars this month, as I was in Eastern Canada and their cars are about the same, but some are a little different. October 4 - Saguenay fjord (port) / Chicoutimi, QC Another ~20-year-old Olds Alero with some rust still delivering the goods and parked at the port of this now more publicized destination in Quebec; I was walking around the port and saw this Pontiac Wave parked on a hill on someone's lawn. I wonder if it still ran. They didn't bring the Wave to the U.S., but possibly featured it here as the Pontiac G3. Either way, Canada sure took to Pontiac.

I have been thinking about this. I have hung on to a lot of friends across time and miles despite career changes and moves. Some are worth hanging on to. I have also thought about some friends (both male and female) who turned out to be either plain idiots or self-centered. The male friends I can think of that I have parted ways with were based on the fact that they wanted me to: (1) bail them out of something financially, or (2) they got married and this made the friendship go south in a hurry because their wives evidently set their social calendar. The female friends I can think of that I have parted ways with either: (1) liked me more than I liked them and wan…

Hey, folks, the Regal turned 17 today. It's got 255,736 miles. It's now "legal" to watch R-rate movies. With 44,000 extra miles needed, I will keep it to try to make 300,000 miles for the hell of it. It's going to the car wash, before it gets too hot here today. Now, if you DON'T OFFEND too easily, here's a clip the car "can watch," so you can too - kind of in the same spirit as the "flying dildo" clip. Funniest thing I've EVER seen: Link to Your Daily Media

Boeing just announced another major delay in their launch of the new 787 Dreamliner...a single-story twin-aisle versatile jetliner that replaces the 757/767 combo. These will be able to service LA to Denver....or LA to London. The concept is great. However, they have halted the production of the fuselage for re-design. I am wondering: - is the snag in their all-over-the-map production scheme? - or is it in the revolutionary change to composites? I don't think the first 747 saw this kind of bumbling. Pan Am signed the launch customer agreement in 1966 and its historic flight took place in Feb. 1969. Have you been following the 787 Dreamliner saga?

Wanted to get out of the house as it's been a boring weekend. Drove south a few miles toward Conestoga, PA, and sawr a sign for "Shenk's Mill Wildflower Preserve". Not really familiar with the area even though it's like 6 miles south of my house. Suddenly, the blacktop ended and the road turned to gravel with some decent washouts and steep down- and uphill approach and departures. I turned around at a railroad track and took a different route. It was like I dropped off the face of the earth. I lowered the window to listen for the sound of banjos... Little Patriot pulled through well. I got a little mud on 'im. It turned out to be a fun excursion.

Okay, so I haven't checked on my favorite '87 Pontiac Grand Prix LE since the fall (maybe October?). And the dealership it is at - remember, this car is the dealer owner's personal car - lost both its franchises (Pontiac in '09 and Cadillac just recently in late 2010 or very early 2011). The building is now marked as an AC Delco repair facility though it looks emptier than before. I've been curious if his collection of cars was still in existence, namely my favorite Pontiac. So Friday night on the way home I stopped by to do a quick check. I was disappointed to see it missing from its parking spot inside the garage; however, I know the owner takes it out on nice weath…

This time, in the form of a 50 year old woman driving a Volvo. Luckily, it wasn't too serious. I was making a right turn out of a Rite Aid parking lot onto a main road. The Volvo was in front of me attempting to do the same. She pulled out and saw a car coming, changed her mind, and shifted into reverse. She had no idea I was behind her, and slammed into me. The damage isn't too bad. The driver's side of my front bumper took the hit. The lower lip is disconnected from the bumper, there are a few long horizontal cracks in the bumper itself, and it'll all need to be repainted. If she were driving an SUV it would have been much worse, as my hood likely would'v…

Also, I vacuumed out under the dash and notice the plastic panel between the firewall and back of the center stack isn't soft. Its hard. Also, when I turned the key in the ignition, I heard a very disconcerting sound coming from the front of the car. It was some sort of growling, like some sort of machinery was there. DuBrow, 52, was found dead at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner’s Office said. She said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death. “I can’t even find the words to say,” Quiet Riot bandmate Frankie Banali said on his Web site. “Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend, Kevin DuBrow.” Quiet Riot, which was founded in the mid-1970s, topp…

So, I've seen a couple horrible things as of late, and I thought I'd share my pain. The first one was an Element with a "Hummer H0.5" badge. The second was a Shadow with a grille from a 95-02 Sunfire slapped on top of its own. The Shadow grille is pretty much vertical, with a horizontal bumper below it - So the Sunfire grille laid above both, making a 45 degree angle to each, with big triangular holes on both sides where the grille didn't line up with the rest of the car. Awful. NSX with red Honda badge. Why do people do this? You don't see anyone putting a Chevy badge on a Cadillac.

Just Saw this Clip on Jay Leno's Website about his 1967 Imperial Crown Hardtop and how he came about owning it... Figured I'd share it with you guys in case anybody hasn't seen it. I think the video really captures why I like these 1960s Imperials better than the Cadillacs and even Lincolns of their day. My dad had a Chrysler Newport Hardtop Coupe of this era and he loved it. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_...html?vid=218789

We haven't seen much of you lately, what with you becoming an astronaut and all. If you can read this from space, have a good one, sir.

Yesterday when I was on my way to Hy-Vee to get groceries, I noticed a car in front of me that had Louisiana plates. At first I assumed that the girl in this car had been going here for a while. Then I remembered an article in the newspaper the other day about a girl from New Orleans who transferred here after everything down there was destroyed. In the newspaper they talked about how she stuffed as much as she could into her Toyota Echo in half an hour and left. The only reason that stuck in my head is because an Echo is tiny and you wouldn't be able to fit much in there. Anyway, the car in front of me was none other than a green Toyota Echo. I got into the rig…

So last Friday I washed, clay barred, and waxed my wife's G6. Everything is smooth as glass, well except the windshields. I used RainEx many, many years ago and didn't like the results (windshield was streaky when it rained and the wipers were on). Any suggestions for protecting the glass?

Oh man, I had to race today for the first time in my Cobalt. Some kid in a tC was zipping through traffic with his fart can, passing ppl. It just so happened at the next light, I was next to him. When I stopped at the light, I hung back instead of stopping even with him. When the light turned green, I popped the clutch, squealed wheels, and caught second gear, leaving his wheezy little Toyota farting in the breeze. HA! That was fun.

So, I must rant. In the local trade book was a listing for a 1982 VW Rabbit for $600. I thought to myself "Hmm, intriguing." I decide to call the guy up for more information and set up a meet for tomorrow. A few hours later, he calls me back and asks if I'd like to look at it tonight. Sure, why not... I go on my merry little way over to check it out. It had 68k original miles, the interior was pretty much immaculate, and the exterior was fairly decent without any rust whatsoever. I'm thinking "What's the catch? It must not run very well." The guy starts up for me. Runs pretty damn good... its even inspected. Then, another guy shows up on a bike. They've either met prev…

We had to euthanize our 14 yr old Australian Terrier, Nauti (aka Bitey Beast) this morning after a long battle w/ cancer. I really bonded w/ this feisty little dog and will miss her deeply. Poured a stiff glass of Jameson to have a toast to her.

This morning started off as just about any other Sunday morning in my house. I slept in until about 11:15 AM, mom and my cousin were off at church, dad was busy out in the garage, my brother was in the kitchen eating breakfast. I did my usual morning tasks (eat, brush teeth, pop my contacts in), when I decided to play some Game & Watch on my Game Boy. I’m sitting on the couch in the living room, when my dad tells me he’s going up to Home Depot for some stuff to fix our chimney with. I see him standing outside, with the driver’s door to the Sonoma open, and it looks like he’s going through something. A minute later, he knocks on the front door (it was locked), and tell…

damn. DAMN! saturday, i had the opportunity to put about 20 miles on a new 06 exige with the track-pack. i cant describe how incredible this car is and ive been trying for two days. the gearbox wasnt perfect for me and the toyota engine is too weak under 6k rpms, but my biggest complaint was that the car was yellow. communication through the steering wheel, which seemed no bigger than a dinner plate, was unreal and unlike anything i've ever driven short of a go-kart, but without the trauma. i think, think, i could feel the front tires shift on their wheels in the few banked sweepers i had the chance to drive through at speed. i have a sneaking suspicion that i was no w…

This will be an overload of pictures, I must warn you. After everything is posted... I'll probably block my own photobucket account so I can read any replies without having to wait an hour for the pictures to load. I even maxed out my Photobucket account uploading these pictures. Took an extra half hour deleting enough pictures. They say I can upload unlimited amounts of pictures, yet I'm limited to only 1000 files? Bitch, please... Deceiving bastards. First up, events that took place throughout the week. Only took pictures of what I could, I wasn't there every day. Includes the laurel pageant, performers, karaoke, rides, etc. The Food Court, whe…

Good News We're mostly settled into our new house, although there's still a lot of boxes to unpack & some of my clothes are MIA. Bad News Business has been exceptionally slow for almost two months now and that combined with the expenses of moving means finances are about as tough as they have been in 4 years. Good News I have an interview today at a great international company for an excellent position with decent pay, opportunity for overtime & very good benefits. There's room for advancement & I have an inside track from my friend Izabella. Today's my second interview. Bad News Marcia is once again asking for a separation and it looks li…

OK, so mom is possibly looking for a new car (her current '93 Maxima is starting to break down on a regular basis, and repairs aren't cheap), and was looking at her replacement options. She doesn't have much to spend - about $7K. She's always driven domestics until this Maxima, and she's liked the way this car drove, if not the reliability. She'd been contemplating an older Camry or Accord, but wasn't overly impressed with either one. She'd even considered a RAV4 or a CR-V, but doesn't necessarily need an SUV and prefers a car with a little more oomph. I'd like to recommend a Regal to her. The pushrod engines should satisfy her lead foot well enough (esp. if I c…
