hey i have been sorta busy, doing this and that. but i was inspired by hanging out with camino all day yesterday at a local car show. wanted to swing in and see how all are doing. and let anyone who cares know whats going on here... so i have found a new girl, one that is so far the coolest i have met. i have some new updates with my home theater. the jeep is still alive. not much new with her though.... still doing custom home theater installs and working part time at game stop. other than that life is mostly the same looking forward to hearing about all the regulars' lives and how everyone else is doing. btw i know this might be a long shot, but if anyone her…

I'm copying this message I received, but please do help out with this. I have been volunteering time and money at Motherly Intercession for over 4 years now and would really, really be grateful to all of you if you consider giving the organization a vote! ----------- Hello everyone, I am requesting your help in order to receive a grant for the place where I tutor weekly, in Flint - Motherly Intercession. If you can vote daily, I would really appreciate it. See below: Motherly Intercession needs your help! From the CATO Institute. Mourning the Loss of a Great American Capitalist While the big news of the day wouldn’t seem to have a public policy angle, Michael Jackson’s death allows us to remember that such phenomenal career achievements can only be possible in an economic system that rewards and harnesses talent. The King of Pop’s creativity allowed him and his family to make hundreds of millions of dollars, yes, but it also created thousands of jobs in the music and marketing industries and brought joy to fans around the world. Whatever his personal eccentricities — perhaps, in part, as a result of them — Jackson represents a capitalit success story. No central pl…

I've got two local SCCA guys who have the money and skill to pull this off...and Z06 seems to have the money and determination to pull this off. That makes four of us. Will keep you posted, but it looks like we will be running at Gingerman, which is a tight, technical track, should be actually good for newbie drivers. Chris

So in the same vein of the displacement threads, I thought this would be a fun take on it. We'll use a broader displacement range, but limit choices to vehicles that use forced induction. Rules- 1)Production only. 2)These are your only vehicles. 3)Maximum of 5 choices. 4)Any era and market is allowed. 5)Vehicles must have no more than 4.0 liters of displacement, and must be supercharged/turbocharged. Have fun guys.

Well, guys, this is what I came across today... I mean, the guy seems sincere. He says he's found a car he likes and he went as far as to purchase it, but I don't know. He's almost bought cars before, and he technically hasn't taken delivery of this one. Some guy could knock on his door at midnight tonight and sell him a silver 2005 GTO for $500. All he has to do is get a replacement for the busted steering column and scratch out the VIN. Heck, I'll throw in the Illinois plates for free. So, in short, Amer_Rev says he's done car shopping. Should I buy it?

Car's running fine. Wonderfully. Cam's been installed for 200 miles now... So my dad takes my car out for a test drive and notices a whining/long-clicking sound. Weird. Coming from driver's side (he says top, I say bottom). Engine's running and we're checking it out. He pulls the throttle cable a little and engine dies and won't start again. It cranks a little, but not enough to get her going. Alternator and battery were just checked and perfectly fine.. WTF?!

on somethin other than prostitutes or drugs... check out the boys at MIT are up to this time. The cheapest space camera available to the public. The two students (from MIT, of course) put together a low-budget rig to fly a camera high enough to photograph the curvature of the Earth. Instead of rockets, boosters and expensive control systems, they filled a weather balloon with helium and hung a styrofoam beer cooler underneath to carry a cheap Canon A470 compact camera. Instant hand warmers kept things from freezing up and made sure the batteries stayed warm enough to work. Of course, all this would be pointless if the guys couldn’t find the rig when it landed, so…

So, you all know I lost my job with the energy company almost exactly a year ago. Then Covid hit and jobs became scarce. I got a contracting job in June with a local government as their Project Manager and also acting as Director of I.T. Well, Friday (tomorrow), my contract is officially up. My boss has decided to extend my contract by 30 days and then January 11th, hired me as a direct employee. I'll be getting a 5-digit raise to come on plus my health insurance costs will drop by about $4700 a year. We're still figuring out the title, but at the moment Director of Special Projects is most likely. I really enjoy working there and I'm happy to have this whole…

I notice on http://www.nadaguides.com/ a link under Car Shopping for a Free VIN Check. For one it is not really free. The link will take you to http://www.autocheck.com/consumers/gateway...&siteID=359 Autocheck claims to be better and less expensive as compared to Carfax. Out of curiosity I tried my Silverado and my wife's MPV. It claims 4 records for my Silverado and 7 record on our MPV. I didn't pay for their so called free VIN check. Now my Silverado was in an accident on the 21st which would seem to be too soon for a report. I wouldn't expect it on a report until the dollar figure and repairs are completed. What I find really odd is the only records cou…

The Cruze is being introduced to the US in 2010 and so is BAS II. GM has stated that BAS II is platform flexible, unlike BAS I. The press release and interviews about BAS II seemed to focus alot around the use of a turbo with the system. Could GM be "smart" enough to introduce BAS II with the Cruze? What about the Orlando? If the combined gas mileage for a 1.4L Turbo Cruze was 32 mpg, which is not unreasonable considering statements made by the company, than a Cruze with the 1.4L Turbo, with flexfuel capability, and BAS II could/should be 38 to 39 combined mpg. That would provide some major help to GMs EPA #s and would be great PR.

A year ago today I was in Missouri and Kansas at the beginning of my western road trip; 2 months ago, I was in Pennsylvania in the middle of my eastern road trip. Both trips seem like they happened just yesterday ... and a lifetime ago. I learned quite a bit in those trips ... enjoying the company of new and old friends along the way. A "snapshot" of some of the things that I discovered during those trips.... Missouri & Kansas are not _that_ boring to drive through.... Colorado is absolutely gorgeous. Wyoming has beautiful formations. Utah has breathtaking views...even in rain with a rainbow for good measure. New Mexico does have rust-free …

This car looks exactly like our old Concorde before the transformation. Camino, I don't know how much you will like this but I love it. The C pillar and window setup looks like the Holdens. This car is nice, minus the ugly rims, oddly placed Buick portholes on a Chrysler, and what I think is a hood scoop. Anyways you have your opinion. But if I still had our old Concorde, I would be taking a Chopsaw to it as well. I love it. Here is the link for the pics. El Concorde

I can hardly believe it has been a month since my road trip ENDED. It's been a rough few weeks since I got back home, which hasn't helped. I finally had the CT Scan of my heart/chest Saturday, August 6, 2011, and, given some other things happening (mostly not-so-good; one maybe good), I may be scarce for a while. I haven't even driven my MCs much this year ... MAYBE 100 miles so far on each of them. I kinda doubt I'll get 1,000 miles on 'em this year for what would be the 3rd year in a row. Anxiousness + uncertainty + waiting + powerlessness + helplessness + feeling lost + not feeling well + hating medical crap = NOT a good combo. BUT ... I'm still alive and such. HA…

Who's (on) First? It seems there's a minor collective historical shift going on. The Buick Motor Company was incorporated May 19, 1903. The Cadillac Automobile Company was incorporated August 22, 1902. With the demise of Oldsmobile, the previous longest manufacturer in the U.S., Wikipedia (and other) sources have reshuffled the criteria a bit. Wikipedia currently says this in the Cadillac entry : >>"Cadillac is currently the second oldest American automobile manufacturer behind Buick and among the oldest automobile brands in the world. Depending on how one chooses to measure, Cadillac is arguably older than Buick. Since GM has discontinued offering Oldsmobil…

The strangest of thoughts came to me today when I went to pick up my daughter from the bus stop this afternoon. It wasnt at the bus stop per se that this vision and thought popped into my head, but rather at the grocery store parking lot when we stopped to pick up a few items. What I saw is this: A shiny new fiery red Chevy Volt And parked right behind it, was an Acura Integra. Dont know what year it was as miniminal changes were made during its lifetime, I know the front clip was refreshed, and this particular car was of the pre-refreshed front clip...but my memory eludes me to when this happened so that is why I went with 1997. Sounds good whe…

Fallen on hard times --- but it feels good to know that milk and honey's just around the bend. Running on bad lines --- we'd better run as we go, Tear up, tear up the overdraft again. Looking for sunshine --- oh but it's black and it's cold Yet, you say that milk and honey's just round the bend. Giving us a hard time, my friends handing us the same line again. Doesn't apply to nav radios, but plain jane ones. I always find writing English on the buttons was rather stupid, especially when they want to go global. I much prefer the ones we have up here in Canada, where we replace all English with icons. Also troublesome is that last time I saw a nice six disc changer unit for cheap, but I couldn't get it because all the buttons were different, and if I install it, it would look odd. Why don't they just make one radio with different firmware for metric and imperial units, and bother with the buttons?? Waste of development costs if you ask me.

I couldn't take a photo. I could see its grille from my driver's side outside mirror and it was moving briskly forward in the fast lane on a rainy freeway. It was circa a 1987 Mercury Cougar. Those were weird looking cars. Ok, the front is fairly tame But, then, it all turns into a $h!tshow! Maybe some kudos are in order for the bold move. You could get a V8, but entry-level power came from FoMoCo's version of the 3.8 liter V6. (The corresponding Ford T-bird of those same years was even more dowdy.) The car I saw was in excellent condition.

I left my job about 2 weeks ago. I wanted to finish this night time graduate degree this May (2 months from today, more or less), so I overloaded on credits to wrap it up. I worked through the 1st month of the semester, so now I am playing catch up. One chick at work e-mails me quite frequently since I was the project manager on a large project and she worked for me. She just told me that the guy in the outside window office across from her is in the cardiac unit of the hospital. He is only in his late 50s and is health is poor. He buried his wife within the last 5 years and he has not done well since. Compared to most a-hole architects, this is one of the nicest…

Just made my first purchase last week, and I'm really brand new to this eBay thing. Of course the seller said he wouldn't ship until he received payment. I know it's Thanksgiving and all, but I'm getting really anxious about the whole thing. Hey, if I recall, it was late summer when the BIG CRASH occurred. Never thought C&G would continue to exist. In the interim, I got involved in an evening program in graduate business. I took 6 semester credits (Investments and Estate/Gift Taxation). Both were ball busters, but got an A and a B, respectively (just checked today) while working 50 hours a week and running around to get my mom to finalize her estate plan (in another state, no less). Also, went to Argentina and Uruguay (where it's summer) during Thanksgiving week instead of going with my mom and brother to a condo in Bend, OR. That was a slam dunk. Where would you have gone? Duh. I just read the line in Sixty8's sig that reads: "In fact, did you know a Chevrolet (small block) V8 with no oil in it and no water in it will last about two hours before it disintegrates? We did it twice. The first time it lasted an hour and 15 minutes and the second time it lasted two hours." It reminded me of something my Physics teacher said he learned from an engineer. That a 60s Muscle Car lets off more emissions while not running than a new car does turned on?

2023 could not end soon enough. It seemed like people were freaking out about AI or trying to freak out others about AI. While the U.S. experienced low unemployment and falling inflation, American politics is almost beyond repair, with a dysfunctional do-nothing Congress and an ethically challenged Supreme Court. The previous occupant of the White House was charged with 91 felony counts. In the UK Charles III and Camilla were crowned king and queen. The submersible OceanGate Titan imploded in the sightseeing tour to the Titanic. The Ukraine war has no end in sight, with about a half million deaths so far, the majority being Russian troops. Hamas attacked Israel in…

With my habit of doing project cars, I am feeling the need to do my own body and paint work. The stumbling block for my projects always seems to be dealing with the bodyshop - either they don't get to it, don't get it, or cost way too much. I'm thinking that the answer may be to do it myself, so I'm looking for any and all input on the subject. I have a huge commercial compressor, but I need to convert it from 3-phase electric to 220 in order to run it here. There may be another alternative compressor in the mix as well (brand new and never used). Years ago, my Dad bought a Binks #7 paint gun but I'm not sure where that is now. I am currently in the process of gathering members both here and at C&G's rival site to rally against GM in light of their recent PR charade about transitioning the G8 to the Caprice. So many GM enthusiasts have begged and pleaded for Zeta's application in North America to be expanded beyond the new Chevrolet Camaro and yet GM continuously ignores us or, at best, makes promises it actually has no intention of delivering on. There was no way the "New GM' could have moved fast enough to actually determine if there was a business case for a new Chevrolet Caprice or Impala based on the Holden Commodore. GM sold so many enthusiasts and former enthusiasts an outright li…

Just wanted to give a quick intro... my name's Chris, i'm 18 years old and live in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. My friend Silvester (Sixty8Panther?) told me about this site, and even though I no longer wear a bowtie (well....arrow head?), I'm still a fan of the GM muscle cars and ALL American cars... I drive a 96 Cobra, but I'm trying to sell it. (I'll have to fill ya in on that one, Silvester...) Once I get rid of the Cobra, I'm gonna see about getting a fox body Mustang (87-93). I prefer older cars for many reasons. I personally find them to be more comfortable, even if they arent as luxurious as newer cars, they're easier to work on (sooo much easier), and IMO less stuf…

Well, I purchased a used white '06 G6 w/2.4l (29k, $12,900) -- which is what I was most interested after my Malibu went to car heaven. Here's some observations/opinions on my '04 Malibu: 1. *Easily* the most boring car I've ever owned. I went from washing my vehicles 1 once (sometimes twice) a week to maybe once a month. The car was as uninspiring to look at as it was to drive. It was truly an appliance. 2. The Ecotec 2.2 gets stellar gas mileage. I routinely pulled 400-450 miles out of 13-13.5 gallons of gas. Factor in that roughly half of those miles are stop-and-go rush hour traffic and those numbers look even better. 3. The light-gray interior seemed like…

So I get my bill in the mail toady..for next year's bill... And it' almost 30 percent higher than last year! Her hit and run of her car was a "no fault", and didn't count against us. I fixed my cav with cash. (ouch!) So I was more than a little shocked to see this ...Ching! Maybe it is really time to get out of Michigan...Stupid insurance laws.....

This is one of the weirdest cases ever - almost to the point of having been forgotten. The little girl was slain in Colorado. Evidently, the family hails from the Atlanta suburbs, moved to Colorado and has since moved back. It also appears that her mother has passed away due to illness in the intervening time such that she isn't around to see someone brought to justice. Obviously, with no leads, the parents were viewed as suspects. The person that has been captured is a 42 year old school teacher from another Atlanta suburb. What a relief to see that someone may be brought to justice. What a sick individual to have done something like this. What a weird situta…

My son received his first credit card offer in the mail this week. Imagine that! His first credit card -- at only age 6! It's from Citicorp -- one of the biggies. Since I moved within the last 8 months & this had our current, correct address - their records must be somewhat accurate. You can't tell me that they do ANY amount of background checking before sending out credit card offers what-so-ever. As a lender, wouldn't you want to, oh I don't know, check out income, credit report, etc before sending out a credit card offer? How can they say (with a straight face) that they are even halfway-serious about credit card security when they ma…

I'm having the strangest problem with my e-mail, here are the symptoms: - e-mails from friends and family are not showing up at all - I can't get emails through Outlook, but can access my acct through the provider's server - My own test e-mails to myself go through (but not to outlook) - a test e-mail from my provider goes through (but not to Outlook) - Now, here's the strange one. I responded to an e-mail about the jag on Craigslist and the responses from that person make me think scam. But, their e-mails go through to the provider's server! Has my e-mail been hijacked?!!

What are C&G'ers playing these days? I've been playing a game called 'Combat Arms' which is free, and pretty awesome, and spares my 2005 laptop from being engulfed in flames courtesy of nVidia. But I may look for something new. Any suggestions?

Well, I think I have finally found a car. A solid example of a 1980 Pontiac Trans Am. It definitly needs some attention and restoration, but for $3,500 it is a nice, rust-free example. I don't have any photos, but if I buy it I will have a few. The T/A has less than 100,000 miles, no rust, but needs some new trim, paint, and interior work. But it does run and will get me to and from school and work, which I will have by November. The engine is a 305, which I think - correct me if I'm wrong - is the incorrect motor for this car. I think the offer I'll put out there will be an even $2,500. The color? Oh, red. Yeah, no way in hell am I putting a CB rad…

Okay, doesn't look like going with a new small GM car lease will put the wife and I where we want to be financially (damn insurance premiums in NJ). We can continue to keep the '04 Malibu and find a way to afford the three NEW car payments + insurance costs... or we can get rid of the Malibu and find a decent used car for under $7k to hold us for a few years (not getting rid of the SKY, that's for darn sure ). So cruising local dealer's online inventories and autoshopper.com, I've found some interesting cars: 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi - 115k, loaded, $3995 1999 Buick Century Custom - 65K, $6995 1998 Buick LeSabre - 60K, $5888 So what do you think of these cars?…

... About a certain 1969 Firebird that's for sale about five miles away from me. The asking price is $6000 and the car really only needs new tires, some bodywork, and paint to be mostly restored. The interior is in very good shape, although it does need a new headliner (there isn't any sagging ... just a tear above the driver's head ... and if that wasn't there, I really wouldn't spend anything on the interior at all for many years to come), and I wouldn't rule out some engine detailing later down the road. But, overall, the car is in very solid shape with only minor surface rust in a few places and with solid floorboards and wheel wells. The color is a very faded brigh…

Name the car given. It can be any General Motors car from 2000-present, and can be found on NetCarShow.com. The person who correctly guesses the car gets to choose the next car to have others guess, but have the car cropped to give only a preview! If possible, without giving away the car, give a specific detail (s) to separate the car, making it easier, and not so vague. Along with the car, state the year it was officially shown by GM, may it be as a concept or production vehicle. NO SPY SHOTS! DO not post your preview until the person who posted thecar says whether or not it is correct. After a certain amount of guesses, the poster of the previewed car can give a second …

Watch a 300-HP Kawasaki H2R Race a Veyron, McLaren 12C, 1350-HP GT-R "Although the 2015 Kawasaki H2R is a track-only offering, the crew over at Super Street were eager to find out how well the supercharged sport bike would fare against three supercars including the McLaren MP4-12C, a 1200-hp Bugatti Veyron, and SP Engineering’s 1350-hp Nissan GT-R. Powered by a supercharged 998-cc inline-four cylinder engine, the 476-pound 2015 Kawasaki H2R makes a claimed 300 hp. With the engine and centrifugal supercharger designed together in-house, Kawasaki claims an intercooler isn’t needed to keep air inlet temperatures in check.A half-mile roll race at Minter Airfield in Shafte…

Yesterday I was having some work done at the Ford dealer. A woman, blonde no less, came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other and the mechanic asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there." The mechanic gave the women a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had the hood up and asked, "Is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, it's …
