I was driving home after work today when I saw an odd-looking car/truck waiting to pull out into traffic. In profile, it looked like a Holden Ute except shorter. It looked like it was from the 90s. As I drove by, I saw it had a Chevrolet badge with a ring around the bowtie. Anybody know what this could be? Something from a Latin American market?

I can't believe what just happened to me. This kind of crap only happens on TV, until now. So I was walking home from the bar with a friend and we thought we might go buy some... herbs. He knew a park where people normally sell so we went there and asked somebody. Guy ended up leading us to a girl who phoned a friend. This should have been hint #1. Why do we need to go somewhere? Nope, we're drunk, and too trusting. Proceed! So the guy proceeds to tell us that the seller is really paranoid and he needs to do the deal for us. (Hint #2) We agreed because me and my friend are both bigger than him and good runners, should he try something stupid. So sure enough he takes of…

I've got two local SCCA guys who have the money and skill to pull this off...and Z06 seems to have the money and determination to pull this off. That makes four of us. Will keep you posted, but it looks like we will be running at Gingerman, which is a tight, technical track, should be actually good for newbie drivers. Chris

So this past weekend I finally got to experience the whole "Uber" thing and to put it simply, it's awesome. The gf and I met at a friends apartment in STL(Soulard area for anybody who may have been this way before or Frisky because he is in the area) and then we all needed to get to where we were meeting more friends to eat. Simply put, the parking is atrocious where we were heading or it would be fairly easy if you were willing to walk a mile.. no thanks. Our friends who live in the area go to bars and Uber all of the time so they're used to it. It's actually crazy how simple it is. Step 1: Open app Step 2: Choose destination(and pickup but it has a map and a little d…

I notice on http://www.nadaguides.com/ a link under Car Shopping for a Free VIN Check. For one it is not really free. The link will take you to http://www.autocheck.com/consumers/gateway...&siteID=359 Autocheck claims to be better and less expensive as compared to Carfax. Out of curiosity I tried my Silverado and my wife's MPV. It claims 4 records for my Silverado and 7 record on our MPV. I didn't pay for their so called free VIN check. Now my Silverado was in an accident on the 21st which would seem to be too soon for a report. I wouldn't expect it on a report until the dollar figure and repairs are completed. What I find really odd is the only records cou…

While looking for a '57 Oldsmobile Fiesta hardtop wagon picture for the "Wagon Love" thread, I found this sketch: That would be a nice looking truck; I love the '57 Oldsmobile lineup, and '55-'57 GMC 'Blue Chip' trucks are my favorite. I know Camino has made posts in the past about what phantom vehicles you'd like to see, so here's my selection to start it off. Post yours if you care to share

Car's running fine. Wonderfully. Cam's been installed for 200 miles now... So my dad takes my car out for a test drive and notices a whining/long-clicking sound. Weird. Coming from driver's side (he says top, I say bottom). Engine's running and we're checking it out. He pulls the throttle cable a little and engine dies and won't start again. It cranks a little, but not enough to get her going. Alternator and battery were just checked and perfectly fine.. WTF?!

Two weeks ago just after I installed the Volvo radiator in my Datsun but before I had a chance to install a cooling fan we had a Blizzard over the weekend. So natrually, clutch fan or not I decided to have some RWD fun in the Datsun. I suck and by no means is this a representation of my drifting ability. We just kept driving from one parking lot to the next and had some jouvenile fun. Try doing this in a Scion, Integra or Civic. ------ First we went to the Pheasnat Lane Mall, a Security Guard asks us to move the fun somewhere else but is super nice about it. He made it sound like the video recording on Mall property was a bigger deal than the donuts in the snow. Most o…

What do you guys think is the best oil? Anyways, I'm asking because my dad always buys the cheap stuff... regular Pennzoil 5w30, and that's what I have to put in my Millenia (due for a change, according to what the guy said). However, I want to put the best stuff possibly in it, including high mileage stuff if it really is all that much better for an engine like mine. But yeah... Tell your what you use and what I should use.

To borrow a euphemism from our outgoing administration, "major combat operations have ceased" and the wagon is back together other than some minor details. So tomorrow the mess gets cleaned up and I will start moving the other vehicles around to more workable positions. I'll leave a bay open to finish up the odds and ends on the wagon. Nice to finally be at this point.

Just wanted to give a quick intro... my name's Chris, i'm 18 years old and live in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. My friend Silvester (Sixty8Panther?) told me about this site, and even though I no longer wear a bowtie (well....arrow head?), I'm still a fan of the GM muscle cars and ALL American cars... I drive a 96 Cobra, but I'm trying to sell it. (I'll have to fill ya in on that one, Silvester...) Once I get rid of the Cobra, I'm gonna see about getting a fox body Mustang (87-93). I prefer older cars for many reasons. I personally find them to be more comfortable, even if they arent as luxurious as newer cars, they're easier to work on (sooo much easier), and IMO less stuf…

The last month has been intense at work...pushing hard to meet deadlines...had the quarterly production install Friday night (pulled an all nighter that night). It's been exhausting, 4 60+ hr weeks in a row...and I don't see it letting up soon, as we are chronically understaffed--the department has lost a net of 6 people in the last 6 months, but the upcoming quarters still have a lot of work to be done, and they seem to be under a hiring freeze (cheap bastards, considering they are one of the few big banks that's profitable). To make matters worse, on Thursday (was a bank holiday for me), my team lead dropped dead of a heart attack at 34 while at cricket practice. …

I Think I May Finally Have A Car...

Well, I think I have finally found a car. A solid example of a 1980 Pontiac Trans Am. It definitly needs some attention and restoration, but for $3,500 it is a nice, rust-free example. I don't have any photos, but if I buy it I will have a few. The T/A has less than 100,000 miles, no rust, but needs some new trim, paint, and interior work. But it does run and will get me to and from school and work, which I will have by November. The engine is a 305, which I think - correct me if I'm wrong - is the incorrect motor for this car. I think the offer I'll put out there will be an even $2,500. The color? Oh, red. Yeah, no way in hell am I putting a CB rad…

This is one of the weirdest cases ever - almost to the point of having been forgotten. The little girl was slain in Colorado. Evidently, the family hails from the Atlanta suburbs, moved to Colorado and has since moved back. It also appears that her mother has passed away due to illness in the intervening time such that she isn't around to see someone brought to justice. Obviously, with no leads, the parents were viewed as suspects. The person that has been captured is a 42 year old school teacher from another Atlanta suburb. What a relief to see that someone may be brought to justice. What a sick individual to have done something like this. What a weird situta…

Never done it, haven't looked at many. I have a area of interest that I would very much like to share with others. In fact I am, to a degree, driven to do so. I am still considering publication, but with friends having gone thru that (successfully), it's an arduous task. Websites get lost in the oceanic shuffle, relevant pre-existing sites either disappear or have a self-imposed system that precludes the type/source of my interest (Wikipedia). What's the scuttlebutt on the blog universe, and does anyone pay any attention??

Just made my first purchase last week, and I'm really brand new to this eBay thing. I was the winning bid for some equipment 7 days ago, and of course had to wait until Wednesday for the PayPal transfer to clear (since the funds weren't aleready up). Of course the seller said he wouldn't ship until he received payment. I know it's Thanksgiving and all, but I'm getting really anxious about the whole thing. How long before I should report the item as not received and go to PayPal about getting the funds back?

It's an idea I'm considering (as are my parents) My dad has a 2003 base Venture, which is in pretty good shape (about 50k on it) My mom plans on getting an Arcadia this spring, and my dad plans on taking the her Astro, due to the fact he just not happy with his Venture. It doesn't have issues, as my dad simply doesn't care for it any more. They were considering trading it in for the Arcadia, but they are going to get killed on trade in, as these vans can be had pretty cheap around here. Well, guys, this is what I came across today... I mean, the guy seems sincere. He says he's found a car he likes and he went as far as to purchase it, but I don't know. He's almost bought cars before, and he technically hasn't taken delivery of this one. Some guy could knock on his door at midnight tonight and sell him a silver 2005 GTO for $500. All he has to do is get a replacement for the busted steering column and scratch out the VIN. Heck, I'll throw in the Illinois plates for free. So, in short, Amer_Rev says he's done car shopping. Should I buy it?

... About a certain 1969 Firebird that's for sale about five miles away from me. The asking price is $6000 and the car really only needs new tires, some bodywork, and paint to be mostly restored. The interior is in very good shape, although it does need a new headliner (there isn't any sagging ... just a tear above the driver's head ... and if that wasn't there, I really wouldn't spend anything on the interior at all for many years to come), and I wouldn't rule out some engine detailing later down the road. But, overall, the car is in very solid shape with only minor surface rust in a few places and with solid floorboards and wheel wells. The color is a very faded brigh…

With my habit of doing project cars, I am feeling the need to do my own body and paint work. The stumbling block for my projects always seems to be dealing with the bodyshop - either they don't get to it, don't get it, or cost way too much. I'm thinking that the answer may be to do it myself, so I'm looking for any and all input on the subject. I have a huge commercial compressor, but I need to convert it from 3-phase electric to 220 in order to run it here. There may be another alternative compressor in the mix as well (brand new and never used). Years ago, my Dad bought a Binks #7 paint gun but I'm not sure where that is now. I want the paint on my cars to be …

Well, I purchased a used white '06 G6 w/2.4l (29k, $12,900) -- which is what I was most interested after my Malibu went to car heaven. Here's some observations/opinions on my '04 Malibu: 1. *Easily* the most boring car I've ever owned. I went from washing my vehicles 1 once (sometimes twice) a week to maybe once a month. The car was as uninspiring to look at as it was to drive. It was truly an appliance. 2. The Ecotec 2.2 gets stellar gas mileage. I routinely pulled 400-450 miles out of 13-13.5 gallons of gas. Factor in that roughly half of those miles are stop-and-go rush hour traffic and those numbers look even better. 3. The light-gray interior seemed like…

Take someone hostage at knifepoint over an athletic injury sustained in likely the eighth or ninth grade and then wait all these years... storm back into the school and take a secretary hostage... and then let her go in exchange for a bottle of water? Just goes to show that no matter what some Canadians say, America does not have a monopoly on dementia.

Coming back from a too-short vacation in the Florida Keys, where I went to my 20th HS reunion in my old hometown of Marathon. Had a great time, fun to see how everyone is doing, where they are living, etc. Hot and humid, sunny...had a nice ocean view from my beachfront hotel. Had an '08 Sebring conv. rental, strange car. Odd proportions.. Huge decklid, tiny trunk (the convertible top takes up about 1/2 of the trunk). The operation of the top is slick, no manual handles to release on the windshield header, just one button to raise and lower the top and windows (a bit slow up and down, though). The glass rear window is nice. The plastics are a bit hard and have so…

* Anyone remember me!? Been almost 2 years since I visited and posted. Life is short and unpredictable; treasure every moment. I logged into social media Saturday afternoon (09.14.2024) for the 1st time in over a year and quickly discovered a few more friends had died. One in particular from my "heart circles", Lorraine, was 1 of the 1st to meet up with me after Dan's death because she knew we'd be laughing hysterically as usual from our conversational topics; laughter was surely needed. Another, Rich, from my automotive and Route 66 circles, had shown me his 1973 Monte Carlo he bought brand new when I visited him the 1st time during my 2009 Route 66 road trip (…

Found this story on Jalopnik and thought we should have a lively debate on if this is accurate or not. https://jalopnik.com/screw-you-carmakers-you-dont-get-to-ruin-the-word-co-1827480939 To quote the story: The word “coupe” comes from the French word “couper,” which means “to cut” because a coupe was a sort of “cut down” version of a car: smaller, leaner, lighter, sportier, shorter, and, significantly, less doors. As in two where the non-coupe version of the car would have had four. Do you go with the change in definition of what a Coupe is or do you still agree that this is a true coupe?

I was just thinking about something earlier and figured I'd see other peoples' reactions. If you were in the market for a used vehicle today (within reasonable range), which vehicle(s) would you purchase? Car: '97-03 Grand Prix GTP Sportscar: C5 Corvette, '01-02 Trans Am WS6 SUV: '99-04 Grand Cherokee Truck: Dodge Dakota 5.9L R/T

Rules for this one are simple....5 choices....but must be five different decades. Must be generally recognizable as a luxury car. A lotus Elise does not qualify. That's all she wrote for rules. A decade is 1960-1969, 1970-1979, etc... Interested to see what you all come up with.

I hate that I have to post another announcement like this. Please come together as a community and send your thoughts and prayers and condolences to our friend @daves87rs who recently lost his wife after a brief illness. Dave has always been a ray of sunshine and positivity in our community for many years and I hope we can be the same for him. There is a GoFundMe page set up to help offset costs. Please consider contributing. Our condolences Dave.

Doesn't apply to nav radios, but plain jane ones. I always find writing English on the buttons was rather stupid, especially when they want to go global. I much prefer the ones we have up here in Canada, where we replace all English with icons. Also troublesome is that last time I saw a nice six disc changer unit for cheap, but I couldn't get it because all the buttons were different, and if I install it, it would look odd. Why don't they just make one radio with different firmware for metric and imperial units, and bother with the buttons?? Waste of development costs if you ask me.

Last year, I posed these queries: What do YOU consider to be "should see" areas/places in your home state? What would you tell travelers to check out, if they have the time, as they drive through your state? What "obscure" and "out of the way" places in your home state come to mind? In August, I posted the answers received. Since then, I've received additional suggestions. Below is the newest compilation of answers ... which may prove that you find another part of yourself in every state. This is not a "complete" list and may not be 100% accurate; however, it is an excellent start to planning a vacation or road trip...ENJOY! ALABAMA Battleship Alabama Huntsville…

DETAILING: Anyone able to or know someone who will clean my 6 cars for me yet this October? I saw this in the just sold section on ebay... A new 2008 Camry Hybrid in Jasper Pearl with tan leather, look what he paid for it 33,500, 2K over sticker on a loaded Camry hybrid goes for 31K was this guy on crack who bought. People really would pay over sticker on an ugly boring midsizer? What kind of dumb-f*cker a-buys a Toyota and then pays more than its worth. Wasn't like it was a somewhat cool Land Cruiser or 4Runner but a Camry Hybrid give me a an f*cking break. Toyota buyers, figures. So what do you guys think? This makes me want to get a G8 GT for less and put a nasty Toyo hating and hybrid bashing bumper sticker on it... Something with the words V8 and "F*CK O…

OK, so I seem to remember a Pontiac ad from magazines or maybe a full line brochure. I would love to have it as my desktop, but I cant find it on the web. Does anyone have it scanned by chance? If noone does I may have to dig out some old brochures to see if I can find it. OK, the ad was (I am pretty sure) a GTO, Bonneville and Grand Prix all in one pic, and I think they were made to look like they were sitting at the end of skid marks that would look like they spun them into place for the picture. It would have to be 2004 or 2005, methinks. Bueller? Bueller?

Hey, I was wondering if I could get some advice from any lawyer/car-dealer-type people on here. I bought my car in March of this year - see the pic below, as it accurately depicts the car right after I got it. I got a ticket over the weekend because the tint on the front windows is too dark. It's a 35% tint, and according to the officer who pulled me over (really nice guy, BTW. Nothing against him), state law limits tint on the front passenger-side windows to no more than 25%. I bought this car used, but the tint was on the windows when I got it from the dealer. Aren't they under obligation not to sell a car that's illegal to drive on MO streets? I ha…

I left my job about 2 weeks ago. I wanted to finish this night time graduate degree this May (2 months from today, more or less), so I overloaded on credits to wrap it up. I worked through the 1st month of the semester, so now I am playing catch up. One chick at work e-mails me quite frequently since I was the project manager on a large project and she worked for me. She just told me that the guy in the outside window office across from her is in the cardiac unit of the hospital. He is only in his late 50s and is health is poor. He buried his wife within the last 5 years and he has not done well since. Compared to most a-hole architects, this is one of the nicest…

You might have seen THIS on Jalopnik, but I thought it was neat enough to report here. Oddly, I get a a British Blues Brothers vibe from some parts of the run. But the real reason I thought it was neat... while driving through London with their completely uninteresting vehicles, what do you see around 14:08? Yeah, an early white second gen Trans Am. I've heard there are only a handful of these in the UK, it was kinda interesting to see one captured during this high speed chase.

Hey, if I recall, it was late summer when the BIG CRASH occurred. Never thought C&G would continue to exist. In the interim, I got involved in an evening program in graduate business. I took 6 semester credits (Investments and Estate/Gift Taxation). Both were ball busters, but got an A and a B, respectively (just checked today) while working 50 hours a week and running around to get my mom to finalize her estate plan (in another state, no less). Also, went to Argentina and Uruguay (where it's summer) during Thanksgiving week instead of going with my mom and brother to a condo in Bend, OR. That was a slam dunk. Where would you have gone? Duh. Chris…

SHAWNEE, Kan. (Sept. 26) - A would-be carjacker got away with nothing more than the keys Monday after he apparently was thwarted by the vehicle's manual transmission. The thief was armed with a shotgun when he ordered a 26-year-old man out of his Chevrolet Camaro in a suburban Kansas City parking lot. The driver complied, but when the robber got into the car he was unable to manage the stick shift. The robber fled the scene in a four-door car that someone else was driving. Police are investigating whether the attempted theft is linked to four similar robberies in Johnson County during the past week. Copyright 2005 The Associated Press

So every year our paper prints the top executives pay here in MN. CEO of Target, 'total compensation' 45 mill. He may be good, but NOT THAT good. and so on, and so on. some guy in charge of lifetime fitness pulled in 40 mill......for renting floor space and treadmills. to top it off some can't afford food and look what these guys make. I wish it were practical to boycott these guy's companies so they go down the toilet and these guys get their salaries 'adjusted'. Problem is, the Target is one mile from my house and its a darn nice store and its handy, and it means I don't have to shop in a Walmart. Having to shop at Walmart is akin to having someone pour ga…

Watch a 300-HP Kawasaki H2R Race a Veyron, McLaren 12C, 1350-HP GT-R "Although the 2015 Kawasaki H2R is a track-only offering, the crew over at Super Street were eager to find out how well the supercharged sport bike would fare against three supercars including the McLaren MP4-12C, a 1200-hp Bugatti Veyron, and SP Engineering’s 1350-hp Nissan GT-R. Powered by a supercharged 998-cc inline-four cylinder engine, the 476-pound 2015 Kawasaki H2R makes a claimed 300 hp. With the engine and centrifugal supercharger designed together in-house, Kawasaki claims an intercooler isn’t needed to keep air inlet temperatures in check.A half-mile roll race at Minter Airfield in Shafte…
