The road trip to Tulsa set me back in terms of the amount of money I had, a which in tern made my loan payment for last month lat (school loans). This day started off quite good, with Sixty8 finally being able o drop off the LeSabre for safe keeping, and us being able to kill the hornet's nest in the Caravan's hatch (starter fluid, as I have learned, is awesome at killing the bastards). We were even able to move it up the driveway so another car could finally fit behind it. He also got a tour of the many, many Mopar parts that have collected in the garage, as well as being able to see the `Cuda's in the flesh. All was going well... I had to get money from working before…

I've had this idea for a while, a thread about the different smells of classic cars. Every one of my "classic" cars has had a different smell. The 68 Camaro, 64 Olds, 59 Buick, even the 70s junk I've had... they all have a very distinct smell to them, I'd say my favorite is the Super 88's interior. It's devine. The seats & rugs all smell like a million dollars. It still smells NEW, if 2007 new cars smelled this good they'd suck a lot less. Any cars you've owned that smelled good? Can you tell the differance between a 1930/1940/1950/1960/1970 car? How about GM versus Mopar versus FoMoCo? One of the most depressing things about a fully restored car…

I'm looking for something to replace my LG 6100, which continually drops calls, among other things - including terrible reception (five bars to one, while I am sitting in the same place), calls breaking up (even while I have five bars), etc. What cellphone brand has been good for you?

Ok, so my best friend and I have been locked in a (rather pointless) debate on whether or not icecream cake is actually cake, or just icecream. He believe that it's a lie, and is nothing more than icecream. I believe that, because it is designed and shaped like a cake, it qualifies as one. To put an automotive twist on this debate, I came up with the floowing analogy: Icecream Cake is like a crossover SUV. It looks like a traditional body-on-frame SUV, with high ground clearance and available FWD. However, underneath it's based off a car or minvian. It also under most cercumstances go offroad or tow like a "real" SUV. Yet it is still considered an SUV. Please vot…

Hey everyone, I have been thinking about this a little lately, and I wanted to see what you all thought about it. Am I way off track?! It seems to me as though Toyota is paralleling GM of the 70's and 80's. And by that I mean, cutting corners - doing things cheaper, riding along on a reputation instead of producing the product to maintain the reputation? It seems like Toyota (and I've thought this since before this whole recall situation) is cutting corners a lot. I don't spend too much time in Toyota's, and I personally strongly dislike the company - mainly because their products all lack excitement or driving dynamics (I guess I can't say all, my experience is v…

Link: http://deansgarage.com/2011/chuck-jordan-memorial%e2%80%94photos-and-handout/ On topic: pretty cool memorial service for a great man. Plenty of great classic GM vehicles and concepts, surrounded by other great GM people. Off-topic: Okay, who do you have to know to have your memorial service held there? Of course if I'm dead what good does it do (unless I come back for it in ghost form ), but I couldn't think of a better place for my memorial service than the GM Heritage Center. Of course, my favorite picture from the group.

Every so often I like to remark that this place, for all its turbulence what with the economy, GM's restructuring, and differences in political opinion, is still an excellent discussion board. Here's what a good chunk of e-forums can be like. For what it's worth, the article that people are commenting on is about CPU performance. http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i...p;cp=1#comments Warning, there's some naughty words, and you might find yourself questioning evolution, and/or creationism, and whether or not humanity is doomed for eternity.

Rob works hard at the office but spends two nights each week bowling, and plays golf every Saturday. His wife thinks he's pushing himself too hard, so for his birthday she takes him to a local strip club. The doorman at the club greets them and says, 'Hey, Rob! How ya doin?' His wife is puzzled and asks if he's been to this club before. 'Oh no,' says Rob. 'He's in my bowling league. When they are seated, a waitress asks Rob if he'd like his usual and brings over a Budweiser. His wife is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and says, 'How did she know that you drink Budweiser?' Polish newspaper claims 'Pedobear' is 2010 Vancouver Olympic mascot A Polish newspaper mistakenly identified "Pedobear", a notorious internet meme, as one of the mascots of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The Gazeta Olsztynska published an image showing the bear alongside genuine Olympic mascots Quatchi, Sumi, Miga and Mukmuk to illustrate a feature about the Games. It appears that the newspaper lifted the picture from Google Images, unaware that it had been created as a prank by Michael Barrick, a Canadian artist and graphic designer. Pedobear, who is on the far right of the picture, was originally devised by members of the anarchic 4chan message board as …

It's been a while since I've last checked in so here's a short update since my last post. After a little over 2 years with Car and Driver, I am now back on the hunt for employment/trying to get back into the grind as a freelancer. While I'm sad to leave the company, I'm remaining positive with the hope that better opportunities lie ahead and wish everyone there well. I couldn't have asked for better coworkers. Our house was "vandalized" at around 3 this morning. When my dad left for work he noticed that one of the gates to our backyard was wide open and some kid was riding his bike down the street. Well, as it turns out we were the victims of the world's lamest idea of vandalism: -The lid of our grill was taken off and the tin grease trap was thrown into the pool. -A small tray of golf balls we had sitting outside was also thrown into the pool. -A potted plant was moved off a table and set in the lawn. -The hose was turned on. -A dog brush was stolen. What. The. Hell. To be honest, I'm actually kind of amused that someone actually wasted their time trespassing…

About exactly like the title says. What new vehicles are you anxiously awaiting a read about?? I know I'm really excited to read about a few vehicle.. On the obvious side, GT350/R. Then on the less obvious side is the new Tacoma. Nissan Titan XD and Continental. The new Titan with a Cummins 5.0..That thing has potential to really shake up the half ton segment. By no means do I think it'll dethrone the D3 but I think it will make great competition and hopefully one of the D3 will make something competitive to it. I believe it is rated 350hp and 550tq. Not too long ago that was the big diesel numbers. Now it's a "mid sized" diesel. The Continental makes me r…

I collaborated with a friend on two songs recently while I try to figure out what I'm going to do about my home studio dilemma. We tracked down a bunch of loops, chopped them up, threw them back together, added a touch of WTF, and came up with what you hear here: http://0023916.bandcamp.com/ Not totally original, I don't think. Well, about as original as an art collage, which is to say there is originality in how things are used. We made due with what we had. It isn't completely boring, though, like some of the stuff you hear coming from people who a.) can't properly arrange music and b.) don't understand anything at all about theory and c.) can only use pre-made samples…

Anyone here with interesting names for their computers..i.e. other than the IP address, giving it a hostname? It's kind of a computer geek thing, I think...friends of mine name their computers after things like sci fi characters, Star Trek characters, places in the Lord of the Rings movies, etc... when I set up my current home network about 5 years ago I went the naming scheme of vintage GM car names that end in 'A'... as I've added computers, I've added names... my network now consists of Ventura, Catalina, Electra, Invicta, Impala, and Omega.

Nobody wants to relive 2020, which was full of pain, death, financial ruin, and overall misery, but here’s a quick summary of what happened. It started with impeachment proceedings and the shocking death of Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash in the fog. In March it was clear that the COVID-19 virus had taken a foothold in the U.S., and teleworking, distance learning, and Zoom started to become part of everyday life, and going to movies, gyms, traveling, and eating out largely became things of the past. In April, the Centers of Disease Control recommended everyone to wear masks in public, but they became a symbol of a culture war rather than protection during a public…

I want to let you guys in on a little secret. I've come up with a plan (it's brilliant, if I do say so myself), to save a bunch of money on gasoline with my Sierra. I told you guys before, my neighbors have a Yaris. OK, the plan is this: tonight, under cover of darkness (and I'm going to dress in a black leotard and paint my face black to ensure I go undetected), I am going to SWITCH GAS TANKS between my truck and the tiny Yaris. What do you guys think? Huh? It's quite the brainstorm, eh? Instead of $90+ to fill my tank, it might take about, ohhh... $35. KaCHING! Instant savings at the pump! I just wonder how long it will take my neighbor to notice how much mor…

OK, who's the jerk that dictated that all new cars have to have HUGE freakin headlights?! God, I hate that look. Whoever it was, I've got a Silverado bumper with his name on it.

I just wanted to tell you all, I think the new layout sucks. They made everything harder to find IMO and it's a little "overdone" IMO. I much prefer the old layout where you have a the list of manufacturers and then each model over this new check off the models you want, or click for more choices and all these new pop up windows to branch off. Meh. My rant is done.

I'm a bit sad, and a bit upset too. I sold the Wagon about a month back, to what I though was a nice Vet (he was very thankful) for him to get around. I saw the car around town for a few days, and all seemed well. That was-until today. I get a letter in the mail- A notice of Abandoned Vehicle. It's been in there about a week-and want me to pay big bucks to get it (almost 500 bucks) out. This is not the way I wanted to see the Cav go. You figure it will go to it's new owner, and you won't have to see it again (and hope that it was well cared for). I have to go tomorrow to get this sorted out. Since I no longer have the title-it looks like it is going to get s…

...I have two issues to discuss: :) 1. I've been using Firefox for quite some time now and haven't recorded a single problem since I began. However...lately I've begun getting pop-ups from Internet Explorer, even though I haven't used it since Firefox was installed. I haven't deleted IE from my computer yet, so is it time to do so? (not sure if it's needed for anything) 2. My computer is a Dell Dimension 4600 that's just barely two years old. It's been wonderfully problem-free and seemingly unnaffected by age, regular use, or the programs I've installed (especially in contrast with my sister's Gateway). However, lately…

Have you seen the new Orville Redenbacher microwavable popcorn commerical? If not, check it out here first: It's creepy! This guy has been dead since 1995, yet the company decided to resurect him for their new ad??? He looks fake - I watched E!'s "Talk Soup" show yesterday and they said it was a combination of live action, Orville's head & lots of CG effects. But I think it's creepy. Especially in the beginning of the commercial, I think all the people in it think it's creepy to see a dead guy boppin' to an MP3 player and making popcorn- just look at their faces (especially the white guy with glasses)! And best of all, at the end of the commercial he says…

So, I needed to rent a car last min. and almost EVERYBODY in Fresno was sold out. So Hertz had cars (and have earned my future business) but... I ended up with 3 TOYOTA keys that all led me to a graphite gray Camary. It has a 4 banger in it. I CANNOT find a comfortable seating position in it at all. The seat is retarded and the steering wheel when it is pulled all the way out and put in the highest position is still not high enough or far enough out. At night, the whole center stack (including the green plastic surroundings) lights up and is very distracting. I can't ever get the car to go into gear without looking at the stupid jagged shifter. The car has really bad blin…

Boomers: 3 ways the crisis whacks your retirement 10/17/2008 12:01 AM ET Link to MSN Money For the generation of Americans born between 1946 and 1964, the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression comes at the worst time imaginable. Baby boomers are nervously trying to navigate their nest eggs to a safe port in a stormy sea of wild stock market swings, falling home values and a weakening job market. It can take years for nest eggs to recover from heavy investment losses. But time is something baby boomers -- the oldest of whom turned 62 this year -- just don't have enough of. Here are the problems near-retirees now face and what (if anything) baby boomer…

As some of you may already know, I'm looking to replace the stock 16" six-spoke rims on my IS300 (which aren't in the best shape to begin with) with the more attractive (but still stock) 17" five spoke rims. The replacements in question come in silver, graphite, and chrome finishes. I'm interested in the latter two (the graphite finish in particular looks great with my car's color, charcoal grey). I've always loved the look of the five-spoke IS300 rims, which became standard in '02 (mine's an '01 <_<), as they fit the car perfectly. My question is whether you guys think it'd be worth spending money on rims that'…

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon's top general expressed regret Tuesday that he called homosexuality immoral, a remark that drew a harsh condemnation from members of Congress and gay advocacy groups. In a newspaper interview Monday, Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had likened homosexual acts to adultery and said the military should not condone it by allowing gays to serve openly in the armed forces. In a statement Tuesday, he said he should have focused more in the interview on the Defense Department policy about gays — and "less on my personal moral views." He did not offer an apology, something that had been demanded by gay rights groups. "Ge…

As I've been resting (or restless, depending on one's point of view) since my gallbladder surgery December 30, I've had time to watch some of the Dukes of Hazzard episodes from Seasons 1 & 2. And, while I was watching a couple episodes from Season 2, I noticed this "glaring" peculiarity (among others, of course).... In Episode 14, "The Runaway" (originally aired 01/11/1980), Daisy's yellow car dives over a cliff and explodes after the accelerator gets stuck while Bo and Luke are in it. That same episode, Daisy is given "Dixie", her Jeep, by the father of the runaway gal. Skip ahead 4 episodes to Episode 18, "F…
