Bettie Page So sad that she passed. A lot of people thought she was already dead, since she basically fell off the map in '58. She was a revolutionary, helped fire up the sexual revolution and gave women the courage to explore their sexuality. Amazing lady and we owe her a lot.

I dont suppose anyone, or their parents, have some rental properties in Metro Detroit? Specifically Troy, Auburn Hills, Southfield or somewhere close to those places? Ideally we'd be talking about a 1BD or studio apartment.

There's been some interest in dropping a turbo into the 2.0 Litre Holden 4-banger, as far as going with an option that's been tried and true for over a decade with this engine; however, I think I found a better option. 108,920 HP @ 102 RPM 5,608,312 LB/ft of torque @ 102 RPM While the 14-cylinder does drink 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour, I think I can be a little lighter on the throttle to help that. That's the inline 12-cylinder model. I might need to beef up the front suspension a tad to carry the weight. Info here: http://www.bath.ac.uk/~ccsshb/12cyl/ You think the guys at Jiffy Lube are going to hate me when I pull in with this thing (under?) the h…

Piggybacking on ocnblu's sequential turn signal thread, while searching for some videos on that topic I came across the video link I posted above. It's a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am Coupe done up in "Knightrider KITT" style but plussed even further. I think the owner did an awesome job and I really like the end result. At the end of the video he shows the LED underbody lighting feature and call me crazy, but I think that's something that police cars could benefit from having. Enjoy!!

A couple of years ago, my mother was driving her '05 Cobalt base sedan and constantly complaining about how hard it was to get in and out of it. She became aware of the 3 boxy hatchbacks that were hitting the market... xB, Cube, and Soul. She was enamored, I was bemused. Until I realized that for a little lady of her age (4'11", age 65 at the time), the ease of entry and cabin volume with small footprint, affordability and good fuel mileage might be ideal for her. So after test driving the Cube and Soul (with her in the passenger seat, amusingly), she decided on the Cube for its laid back, rolling living room feel and "unique" looks. The flat seats and soft suspensio…

I just got back in from my morning walk and I'm sick to my stomach. Coming up to a "T" intersection, I waited for a '95-ish Monte Carlo (the new Christine) to come in from the right. Just as it passed about 20 feet in front of me, a squirrel darted out into the street, trying to make it across. I heard a tiny *snap* as the evil MC ran over the little guy's hindquarters and sped off. He dragged himself as quickly as he could to the near side of the street and collapsed in someone's front yard. I approached him, and stood watching as he convulsed and screamed a little squirrel scream. His eyes closed for about 10 seconds and he stopped moving, then started breathing a…

Ok, so I dont think I've mentioned this, but a couple of months ago, my mom decided to take a job in England. She left two weeks ago (my dad is going over after she gets settled and decides if she wants to stay) and was told she was going to need a car. They told her that her Saturn would "make her a target" (it would probably be the only L300 there) and besides that, its was too big. So in the time she isn't spending at work or trying to hook me up with waitresses (I'm never going to go visit if she does that the whole time I'm there) she's been looking for a car. I talked to my dad this morning, and apparently she bought a Corsa, which …

Flames lost again and the Ducks move on. The west is going to get its ass handed to it on a plate again this year, as they will again be the division with "the cinderella team" going to the finals. Well, at leats i still have the Sens to cheer for, and it will be cool if Jersey and Carolina beat each other up so badly that it will eliminate their chances of going to the finals. I felt this deserves its own thread, as the subject matter is slightly different than part one.

The following is an attempt to separate fact from fiction. 1. The availability of video games has led to an epidemic of youth violence. According to federal crime statistics, the rate of juvenile violent crime in the United States is at a 30-year low. As I was emerging from slumber this a.m., I had a short movie flash in my head: I was driving my Cobalt here in Lancaster, PA. In my dream, Volkswagen's US headquarters is in my town. I was driving by the headquarters (a giant, non-descript brick and steel siding building without windows) when I noticed out of the corner of my eye a white, 4-door VW Beetle driving through the parking lot, flickering in and out of sight was it passed between parked cars. I instantly thought of photographing it for C&G with my phone, so I turned in to the restricted parking lot and made a loop, searching for the prototype. Then I saw it, parallel parked in front of the building by …

Here's the deal: My employers/landlords have a 2000 Volvo V40 wagon. About a week ago, I found a broken hunk of a front spring under the car and told them to have their mechanic check it out since I consider it a safety issue. I dropped the car off and had a chat about it with the mechanic. I agreed with him that the proper way to deal with it was to replace the front springs and struts (original and at about 90k miles). No big deal, I thought - standard wear stuff. Wrong. I should have known something was up when I asked the mechanic for a ballpark on the pricing and he came back with a number twice what I expected: $1,500. The first issue is that everything is a s…

Was just searching through for some Motorweek videos...and found this one of a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo. Guess I was out of the loop, unaware of the TURBO 3.1L V6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGcEqvOgEVw Otherwise, a really interesting review, and WOW, so evident of that awful 80's/90's "GM syndrome" with the visbily clunky and junky interior, KIT car dash lights and buttons, etc. And really love that, uh, "great" braking action of the 1990 ABS system and wonderfully non-sophisticated mushy all-strut W-body suspension. If you like the Red Hot Chili Peppers (or alternative in general), you're going to love this album. I've had it for all of two hours and it's already a candidate for album of the year (for me, at least)! I suggest purchasing form the iTunes Music Store, as you get a video on the making of the video for "Dani California," a 17-page digital booklet, and an hour-long audio commentary. (Ultimate-Guitar.com said you can get a special edition with these bonuses plus some other toys for US$130. Yeah, I'm gonna have to stick with just paying $19.90.) Okay... So, the funny thing is, every car I've ever owned I've never had to really buy new tires because the car has always died before I've needed new ones. Now, with my current car, I've had it a while, and I bought new tires when I first got it because my mechanic recommended it before I actually purchased it, but now I'm wondering if I need new ones. Exactly how bad do you let tires get before you change them? I have tread on them.. it's not like they're bald. However, yesterday I skid for the first time since I've owned the car since April 2002. Now, I'm thinking it was simply because of the road... ... it rained lightly yesterday and I was on my way to th…

I stopped @ the local Ford dealership this afternoon to check out a new Escape, it was an SE AWD 1.6, priced at $27k. Usually this dealership lets ppl browse, but today a salesguy came out and started pitching. He said "yeah, how do you like it?" I said, "Yup, the new Focus wagon," and so the tone was set. He said with the automatic liftgate, Ford is cautioning ppl against waving your leg back and forth to open it because you can fall down. Just one kick straight ahead is the preferred way to do it. I asked if there will be a warning label to avoid lawsuits.…

I took a crapload of pics, it was my first time there that I really got to see some of the stuff they had (The other time I went up we were in a real hurry cause they closed very soon) Just thought you guys might want to see some more pics from this place.... http://community.webshots.com/album/550670613hQXaqC The pics at the end are just weird stuff that we saw on our drive back through Manchester

I'm preparing for this year's road trips, despite some new health issues ("mass" on liver, left arm/elbow pain, jaw pain, reoccurrence of irregular/too fast heart beat) and looking for a new job (etc).... Ironically, I haven't been to a cruise night in this area (Elgin, etc., IL) yet or gone to any dirt track races ... nor am I very organized at getting plans together for 2006 ... including a list of IL-IN-WI-IA-MI car shows/events, etc..... Hmmm...would also love to organize a gathering to see the movie "Cars" ... I've seen it, but would love to see it again, considering it features a '76/'77 MC as one of the announcers, has a great commentary on RT 66's "demise" after…

I would like to learn about as many GM "high performance" and "oddball" special cars as possible. For instance, the 66 W-30 tripower Cutlass, a very rare bird. GM even built one that was turquoise with a yellow vynal top and a red interior so that it would show up well on the dragstrip. Olds Achieva SCX, rare, rare bird, like the Neon ACR but much, much rarer. Or the "Heavy Chevy" 71 Chevelle. Or any of the other quad 4 specials. Or the "Anniversary Olds" that was build for olds 50th anniversay in very limited numbers in the 1950's. Or the first OHV pontiac V8's. Or... But I am having trouble finding info. Library searches are reaching dead ends. I read…

So for the third night in a row I'm up at 4:00am. I just 'inhaled' a liter of Coke with Lime, 1/3 of a box of Trader Joe's Chocolate Raspberry thingines and a half package of Fritos Honey BBQ Flavor Twists. For some reason even though I do no drugs what-so-ever and have only tried pot once and it did nothing for me... I've still got the munchies. I could totally go for KFC/Taco Bell right now. It's at this moment while the cats are running around driving me crazy that I realize I'm setting myself up for an early grave. Oh well, back to looking up Cab-Over-Engine classics on eBay and Google. :) P.S. Variance I'll finish that PM tomorr…

Did you know that originally rubber for tires was white? And that vulcanization of rubber (carbon added) created the black as we now know tires? They first used the new black rubber on the treads creating the whitewall. Here's a little history: http://carsatlarge.com/2007/01/tires-never...te-subject.html

In your opinion, what features/characteristics (measurable) should all vehicles from each brand have or at least always have as an option? Feel free to distinguish between trucks/cars, but otherwise it should be the same across the whole brand. A few of my opinions as Examples: Cadillac: HID projector headlights, LED signal lights all around, offer nav (maybe should be standard) Buick: LED tail lights, fog lights, offer nav Also feel free to do this in reverse, like: Nav: Cadillac (standard), Buick (always available option), GMC (always available option) So, what do you think? Let's stick to the remaining brands for simplicity.

This ElCamino speaks to me. I could definately imagine myself cruising in this purple beast. And perhaps B&BL can give us an update on how Camino is doing these days. I have not seen him around in a while either. :( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...mMakeTrack=true

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share with you that I got my Citroen C4 brochure in the mail! Yes... Citroen. I forgot that I asked for it, hehe. It's all in French of course, so it'll take me awhile to figure it out. I think it's a cool little car, especially the 3-door. Also cool is that Citroen would even send me one.

Being the "Resident Young Stickler" that I am ... I find it fascinating when I spot ads for cars that advertise for one year of car, but show a completely different year of the same car. Case in point: 1976 Des Moines Register ad Check out this, that a friend on the El Camino list posted: http://www.myelcamino.net/1976.htm ...and scroll down a little bit to the "Clean Sweep" ad. You see that " '76 Monte Carlo " they have pictured there? Well, I don't think it is; sure looks like a '75. But ... you be the judge and compare.... '75 MC rear (scroll down to bottom): http://www.chevyasylum.com/mcspotter/1975f.html '76 MC rear (scroll down to bottom): http://www.che…
