Cadillac To Premiere All-New 2008 CTS In January DETROIT, Mich. - It is the subject of online discussions, rumors and spy photographers. It is the successor to an award-winning and popular luxury car. And it's coming in January. Cadillac confirms that the all-new 2008 CTS will make its world premiere in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. "Cadillac has engineered an historic renaissance, with a completely new product portfolio, driven in large part by the original CTS," said general manager Jim Taylor. "Success can drive conservatism, but not for Cadillac. The next chapter, beginning in January, promises to be even more dramatic." The d…

Cadillac to unveil E-Flex concept coupe at NAIAS? This is from Autoblog. Two thoughts crossed my mind: Cadillac is serious about having its own E-Flex and/or this smaller-than-CTS hints at how an alpha Cadillac might look like... Could E-Flex be adapted to a RWD setup?

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 4, 2013 When Chevrolet introduced the Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show last year, we knew that the madness was only beginning. Before long, new versions of the Z06 and ZR1 would be making their way out. Well General Motors has announced that the 2015 Corvette Z06 would be debuting at Detroit Auto Show in January. We can gleam some information from the teaser shot that GM has released such as lightweight-looking alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport Cup and a carbon-fiber side skirt. Chevrolet has released a teaser for the next-generation Traverse that will debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show. Judging from the teaser, it appears the Traverse will share front and rear end styling of the new Equinox. Chevrolet says in a press release the Traverse will boast "the segment’s best third-row legroom and maximum cargo space." Other details are being kept under the cloak of darkness till its reveal at Detroit. But we wouldn't be surprised if there is an updated 3.6L V6 under the hood. Source: Chevrolet Press Release is on Page 2 ALL-NEW 2018 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE TO DEBUT JAN. 9 Bold new look expected to offer se…

If you're a fan of rear-wheel drive GM muscle, then this year's Detroit Auto Show should give you a decent reason to rejoyce. Photos of the new Chevrolet Code 130R concept have recently begun to hit the internet and, so far, the small, rear-drive Chevy coupe is shaping up to be an interesting proposition. The Code 130R is one of two new Chevrolet concept vehicles GM is rolling out for Detroit. With its blistered fenders and square-shouldered roofline, the styling can definitely evoke strong images of the classic 1970 through 1972 Chevelle muscle cars. However, unlike the classic Chevelle, GM says the Code 130R could be capable of up to 40 mpg if it were to go into produc…

DETROIT - The Chevrolet Malibu and the Mazda CX-9 were chosen as the car and truck of the year at the North American International Auto Show. The awards were presented Sunday, the first day of media previews for the show. It opens to the public on Saturday. It was the second major award for the CX-9 crossover, which was named Motor Trend's 2008 sport utility of the year in October. "The CX-9 was designed for North America, and I think the award is recognition that the team delivered on the promise," Mazda Executive Vice President Robert Graziano said. Bob Lutz, General Motors Corp.'s vice chairman of product development, said GM is rapidly trying to add more produ…

Chevrolet unveiled two coupe concepts at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit today. Chevy is actively courting the sub-30 crowd with these two small coupes with a heavy emphasis on connectivity both virtual and personal. Chevy said that while youth buyers wanted coupes, they also wanted to be able to take their friends with them. Thus the ability to seat adults comfortably in the rear is emphasized. Chevy has also included a high level of digital social connectivity in a way that isn't distracting using the Chevy's MyLink infotainment system. The first concept, the Chevrolet Tru 140S, is a front wheel drive "affordable exotic". It is inspired by th…

Chrysler today unveiled the all new Chrysler 200 sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new 200 rides on a new platform shared with the smaller Dodge Dart but features a host of available technologies not offered on its lesser sibling. The biggest upgrade is the optional 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 which produces 295 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Standard on all trim levels is a segment first 9-speed automatic transmission. Also optional is an AWD system that can decouple the drive line both at the center drive shaft and at the rear axle to virtually eliminate parasitic losses in fuel economy. The system automatically couples in and out of …

To sum up the collective "intelligence" of the automotive writers they have now named the Honda Civic car of the year. It is only fitting that the Civic is being fronted by none other than that cutting edge musical act Black Eyed Peas (in her pants). Now does anybody take anything from the traditional autowriters seriuosly? Not after this joke.

2007 Mazda Ryuga Concept Another zoom-zoomer, this time with gull wings. by Marty Padgett (2006-12-12) Link to Original Article @ TCC Mazda says it's bringing a concept to the 2007 Detroit auto show that's built around the concept of flow. Included in that flow are, if the accompanying sketch is to be believed, a pair of gullwing doors. The new concept has been dubbed the Ryuga. Paired with the Nagare concept unveiled at last month's Los Angeles auto show, the Ryuga will emphasize richness and luxury. Mazda promises "rich fabrics, engineered fits and hidden details" in the new concept, "portraying unique Japanese beauty." Chief designer Laurens van den Ack…

In addition to the 2010 Toyota Prius and iQ-based FT-EV, ToMoCo is taking the wraps off the redesigned 2010 Camry at the Detroit Auto Show later today. Due to go on sale this March, the restyled Camry offers the same soul-sucking practicality and Maytag levels of usability as its forbearers, but features a few engineering and design tweaks to bring it into the next decade. On the outside, the 2010 Camry receives a new front bumper with enlarged air intakes, uprated headlamps and a set of restyled taillights. The XLE model includes 16-inch, ten-spoke wheels, while the SE rolls on 17-inch hoops and the base LE makes due with wheel covers. Inside, a new optional stereo wit…

Among the array of various concept and production vehicles at the GM display was the Chevy Orlando Concept that made its world debut in Paris just a few months prior. Based on the same platform as the Cruze, the Orlando offers seven seats in a relatively compact design. At its debut we found the Orlando to be a much more appealing than the HHR and hoped that GM would consider bringing it to the U.S. as a production vehicle. Our wish has been granted, and the Orlando will arrive in dealers as a 2011 model along with the Spark mini-car. Follow the jump for the press release from GM, video from the live unveil, and check out new high-res photos in the gallery below. http:/…

We were beginning to worry that the 300C was all Ralph Gilles had in him. But if the Chrysler 200C Concept is what Chrysler's styling star can bring to the hitherto dull banquet of Chrysler design, then he should have been placed in charge long ago. It is absolutely gorgeous - check out those wheels - and to our eyes, at least, this is what the straked nonsense known as the Sebring should have been (or at least, what it could have looked like). A range-extended four-passenger sedan, the car is about the size of a BMW 5-Series. A rear-wheel-driver powered by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that includes a "small gasoline engine" - Chrysler didn't say how small - aided by a l…

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/detroit...th-cross-hairs/ In spite of the large Dodge EV branding that was on this car when it first appeared last fall, it was obvious to all that it was simply a Lotus Europa. In spite of Chrysler's seemingly inexorable drive to insolvency in recent months, the engineers and designers in Auburn Hills have continued to try make the best use of the time they have left with a paycheck. The electric sports car now known as the Circuit EV has been the beneficiary of cross-hair nose job that is actually an improvement over the Lotus original. The tail has also been revamped and the plug socket has moved from the passenger side to the drive…

Just after showing off the the production intent version of the Karma plug-in hybrid sport sedan, designer Henrik Fisker had his models pull the cover off a new concept: the Karma S. The Karma S takes the drivetrain and platform and loses two doors and the roof. The Sunset has a retractable hardtop over its four seats and, as usual in such configurations, the rear seating area loses out. Thankfully, the top folds into fairly compact pieces, so the Karma S doesn't suffer from long deck syndrome. Under the hood sits a GM 2.0L turbocharged and direct-injected EcoTec four-cylinder with 260 hp driving a generator to keep the car going after its 50-mile battery range has been d…

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/12/detroit...ile/2#c16513964 Ford has a major-league hit on its hands with the 2009 Flex crossover – with the media. Sadly, despite its varied and considerable charms, sales haven't met the Blue Oval's admittedly lofty expectations. Blame the recession, blame the marketing department, blame the Flex's divisive styling, blame what you will, but Dearborn is plainly going to have to find more volume for its D4 platform. Enter the 2010 Lincoln MKT. It doesn't take more than a brief glance to realize that Ford's stylists have exacted much more than a quick nip/tuck on the rectilinear Flex en-route to minting this new Lincoln. But beyond t…

The 2010 Chevy Equinox showed its new face alongside the 2010 Cadillac SRX in Detroit today, and it was a tossup as to which looked better. Regardless of where you stand on the Equinox' appearance, the new CUV is a far more sophisticated vehicle than the crossover it replaces. Power will be provided by a choice of two direct injection engines, with the four-cylinder model able returning 30 mpg on the highway and the new 3.0L V6 packing 255 horsepower. It also features a gorgeous interior that should look familiar to anyone who's looked inside a Malibu or Traverse. While this is an evolution of the Theta architecture, the dimensions are almost identical to the old one an…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 8, 2012 Joining the growing list of vehicles showing up before the embargo is the new Cadillac ATS. Pictures of the new model were released a few hours ago and show the ATS is gunning for the BMW 3-Series. Design of the new ATS takes many cues from its big brother, the CTS, but with some softer lines up front and on the flanks. Around back, the ATS sports Cadillac's trademark vertical tail lamps, plus a pair of inset exhaust tips. Cadillac is very confident that the new ATS will give the 3-Series a run for its money. The ATS boasts a nearly 50/50 weight distribution, and features a five-link independent rear …

Mercedes Benz will be doing the full reveal of the 2017 Mercedes Benz E-Class on Monday, January 11th, however images of the car slipped out ahead of time. The exterior design of the new E-Class won't shock anyone as it now looks like a larger C-Class or smaller S-Class. The current E-Class is one of the oldest sedans in Mercedes' line-up and this move brings it up to date with the rest of the family look. Primary motive power is expected to come from a 2.0 liter turbo 4-cylinder and a twin-turbo V6. Alternative fuel minded customer will again have a diesel option this time with an all new 2.0 liter diesel while a plug-in hybrid will also join the line. AMG models are…

Mercedes-Benz has decided their largest SUV, the GLS-Class isn't fancy enough. That's why at the Detroit Auto Show next week, the German automaker will introduce the 2018 GLS Grand Edition. Most of the changes for the Grand Edition are inside with Porcelain and Espresso Brown Nappa leather on the seats and dash, open-pore wood trim, velour floor mats, and ambient lighting. Outside, the GLS Grand Edition comes with LED headlights, 'Grand Edition' badging and different wheels - 20-inches for the GLS 450 and 21-inches for the GLS 550. Mercedes is keeping mum on the pricing for the Grand Edition models, but said it will arrive at dealers towards the middle of this yea…

Back in August, we reported that Volkswagen was planning to send the Passat GT concept shown at the 2016 LA Auto Show into production. The concept was Volkswagen's attempt at making the Passat become a bit more exciting with numerous cosmetic changes, a VR6 engine, and slight tweaks to the suspension. Next week at the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen will show off the production model. The exterior of the Passat GT matches up with the concept as there are a blacked-out honeycomb grille, red accent striping, blacked-out trim, 19-inch wheels, and a black decklid spoiler. Only four colors will be available on the GT; Pure White, Reflex Silver, Platinum Grey, and Deep Black.…

2018 is a special year for Chevrolet as it marks 100 years of building pickup trucks. What better way to commemorate this anniversary than to introduce the next-generation Silverado. Chevrolet has already revealed one version of the Silverado last month at an event in Texas, the Trail Boss. The bowtie also revealed the new Silverado would be using a mix of materials such as steel and aluminum. Tonight at an event in Detroit, Chevrolet has spilled more details on the 2019 Silverado. Despite the truck growing in overall length (1.6 inches) and wheelbase (3.9 inches), Chevrolet says the new Silverado has a weight reduction of up to 450 pounds. Some of this comes down to …

Yesterday, we told you about a teaser dropped by Ford for a new ST model. We had a number of guesses ranging from the Focus to the Explorer. Earlier this morning, Ford has revealed the mysterious ST model is the 2019 Edge ST. Taking the place of the Edge Sport, the ST retains the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 but gets a slight power boost - 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque vs. 315 hp and 350 pound-feet found in the Sport. This will come hooked up to a new eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Ford isn't revealing performance specs, but we're assuming it will slightly quicker to 60 mph than the Sport - hitting 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. The Edge ST also comes with a re…

The Honda Insight has never really made any inroads when it comes to dedicated hybrid vehicles. But the Japanese automaker is hoping the mantra of 'third time is the charm' will work out with the 2019 Insight debuting next week at the Detroit Auto Show. The Insight will slot between the Civic and Accord in Honda's lineup. Unlike previous Insights, the 2019 model is more conventional in its design. The front end has a lot of influence from the Accord with a large grille opening and narrow headlights. The side profile mimics the Civic sedan with a sloping roofline and similar glass area. Inside, Honda is promising the Insight will have best-in-class passenger volume…

When Jeep released the 2014 Cherokee, much of the automotive press panned its polarising appearance. However, the buying public disagreed and went on to buy 220k Jeep Cherokees in 2015, its second full year on sale. For 2019, Jeep is updating the Cherokee to soften those polarizing looks and bring some new refinements to the Cherokee brand. First up is the front facia; The headlight clusters have been moved higher, up and out of the bumper and into a more conventional location in the upper fenders. The pointy grille has also been softened into a more versatile piece. Around back, the liftgate has new contouring in contrast to the giant flat surface of the outg…

Mini will be using next week's Detroit Auto Show to debut refreshed versions of the Cooper Hardtop and Convertible models. At first glance, the changes don't seem apparent as the new models look like the current ones. But you'll need to get a bit closer to see the changes. Up front, the 2019 Coopers feature a new headlight design and updated logo. Around back, Mini has fitted a new set of LED taillights with a Union Jack pattern. The interior sees some minor changes with Bluetooth and a 6.5-inch infotainment screen becoming standard. An 8.8-inch system with navigation is available as an option. The U.S. will miss out on one change that Mini is making for the Coope…

Previous Page Next Page This year's edition of the Detroit Auto Show is all about the trucks as Chevrolet introduced a redesigned Silverado and Ford is bringing back the Ranger. This morning, Ram has completed the trifecta with the launch of the 2019 Ram 1500. As we first saw in a leaked photo a few days ago, the 2019 Ram loses the big-rig styling that has been part of its identity since the 1994 model. This is most evident on the front end where the crosshair grille goes bye-bye and is replaced by a new grille design with the "RAM" smack dab in the middle. The front fenders has been raised to give the front a more upright look. Depending…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was hoping to a make a splash next Monday with the debut of 2019 Ram 1500 at the Detroit Auto Show. But someone spoiled the surprise. A user on Reddit posted a picture of a 2019 Ram 1500 inside a Fiat Chrysler plant - our hunch being the Warren, MI plant. The 3/4 shot gives us our best look at the truck and matches up with previous spy photos. The most apparent change that will sway your decision to liking to disliking the truck is the new grille. Ram appears to be doing away with the crosshair grille that has been a design trademark since the 1994 model. Instead, there is a smaller, octagonal grille with 'RAM' nestled in the middle. We…

Toyota unveiled a redesigned Avalon today at the Detroit Auto Show. The previous-generation marked a turning point for the big sedan as Toyota added a bit more style and worked on improving the handling characteristics. The new model hopes to improve on both. The new Avalon is very polarizing in terms of its design, especially in the front with a large grille featuring slats or a mesh insert, and narrow headlights. The body features a number of creases and a coupe-like roofline. Overall, the new Avalon is larger - length grows by 0.7 inches, width by 0.8 inches, and the wheelbase by 2 inches. Some of the increase is due to Toyota moving the Avalon to their TGNA modula…

While crossovers are beginning to take up more of Volkswagen's attention, the German automaker knows they have to keep their eye on their passenger cars. Around the world, that is Golf. But in North America, that honor falls to the Jetta sedan. On the eve of the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen unveiled the all-new 2019 Jetta. One change that we're happy to see is the Volkswagen has given the all-new Jetta some style. The front end reminds us of the European-spec Passat with the hexagonal grille and sculpted hood. The side profile shows off a distinctive character line and a somewhat coupe-like roof. Volkswagen says the Jetta is bigger in all dimensions, but only …

After weeks of teasing us, Infiniti has finally spilled the details on the Q Inspiration Concept today at the Detroit Auto Show. The best way we can describe the Q Inspiration is the Japanese automaker's take on the Porsche Panamera. It features the classic proportions of a coupe with a long front end, sloping roofline, and short rear deck. The front is quite busy with a "double-arch" grille finished in white. Move inside to see the very minimalist and clean interior layout. The seats look quite futuristic with white leather upholstery and orange accents. At first, we thought the Q Inspiration would feature an electric powertrain of some kind, due t…

As we've reported before, the North American International Auto Show will move to June for the 2020 show, so no more mucking about in the snow in downtown Detroit for @William Maley and I. Here's a rundown of what we can expect to see for Detroit 2019. Cadillac - 2020 Cadillac XT6 The 2020 Cadillac XT6 will make its debut on Sunday, January 13th. We expect it will be based on the same chassis as the Buick Enclave and powered by the same 3.6 liter V6 and 9-speed automatic found in the XT5. We could get a surprise engine option avail…

For the Elantra GT, N-Line will be taking the place of the Sport. For the exterior, the N-Line brings a unique front grille, lower front spoiler, blacked-out side mirrors, and 18-inch N-Line wheels. Subaru has been keeping their S-series of WRX STI vehicles in Japan since the first model (the S201) was launched in 2000. But today at the Detroit Auto Show, Subaru has decided to treat us by bringing over the S209 to the U.S. Under the hood, STI has overhauled the EJ25 2.5L turbocharged boxer-four engine with an HKS turbocharger, revised intake system, forged pistons and con rods, and less-restrictive exhaust. Output has increased 310 to 341 horsepower. Torque remains at 290 pound-feet. In a nod to the 2004 to 2007 STI, Subaru has fitted an intercooler water spray system controlled via steering wheel paddles to cool down the intercooler. A six-speed manual routes po…

The XT6 is powered by the familiar 3.6 liter V6 with 310 hp. Active fuel management comes standard and allows the engine to run in 4-cylinder mode when V6 power is not needed. The Ford Explorer is the all-time best-selling SUV in the US. So when Ford redesigned it the ground up, they made sure the 2020 Ford Explorer keeps a familiar face. Now on a new rear-wheel-drive platform that improves interior space and towing capacity, the Explorer broadens the already strong brand Ford has built over the years. Under the hood are one of two turbocharged engines. Offered on the Base, XLT, and Limited is a 2.3 liter Ecoboost 4-cylinder producing 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Standard on the Platinum is a 3.0 liter Ecoboost pumping out 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque when fed 93 Octane. The 2.3 liter comes in either rear-wheel dri…

Previous Page Next Page In the fall of 2020, Ford will be releasing the Mustang Shelby GT500 with a supercharged 5.2 liter V8 producing more than 700 horsepower. The handbuilt aluminum V8 features a lower center of gravity by inverting the intercooler into the valley of the engine V. A structural oil pan reduces vibrations and has active baffles to keep oil where it needs to be. All of that power is routed to a 7-speed TREMEC dual-clutch transmission capable of shifting in under 100 milliseconds. Three years after Kia introduced the world to the Telluride concept, the Korean automaker introduced the production model at the Detroit Auto Show. Kia hasn't changed much in the Telluride's design. It retains the concept's boxy shape with an upright windshield, and stacked headlights. The interior is quite modern in its looks with a wide and flat dash, and brushed metal and matte-finished wood trim. A 10.25-inch touchscreen featuring the newest version of Kia's UVO infotainment system. There will be seating for up to eight passengers. Power is the same as you'll find in the sister Hyundai Palisade; a 3.8L V6 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This is pa…

The LC Convertible concept was only the appetizer to what Lexus had for their main course at the Detroit Auto Show this morning. The 2020 RC-F and RC-F Track Edition are bringing some small improvements that will hopefully bring some big changes. Like the standard RC, the RC-F comes with an updated front and rear fascia, and new lighting. The 5.0L V8 engine gets a small bump in power to 472 horsepower and 396 pound-feet of torque (up five and six respectively). A new higher final drive ratio for the standard 8-speed automatic transmission and launch-control system drop 0-60 mph time to 4.2 seconds. That's nothing compared to the new Track Edition which drops 176 p…

After numerous teasers and various leaks coming out, Toyota rolled the Mk.5 Supra this morning in Detroit. Bringing the Supra to life required Toyota to bring in a partner. In this case, that happened to be BMW. That begins under the hood as there is a 3.0 twin-scroll turbocharged inline-six with 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. This is paired solely to an eight-speed automatic that routes power to the rear-wheels. 0-60 mph takes 4.1 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155 mph. No mention of the 2.0L turbo-four as we have reported previously - we don't know if that's off the table or will be announced at a later date. Work done to chassis wa…

Hyundai isn’t the first brand you think of being in the business of racing, at least in the U.S. Elsewhere in the World, the Korean automaker has been making its mark known in various series such as the World Rally Championship and the World Touring Car Championship with the likes of the i20 subcompact and i30 N. Soon, Hyundai will be taking on the U.S. Racing series with the introduction of the Veloster N TCR. The model was developed at Hyundai Motorsport Headquarters in Alzenau, Germany. According to the company, the Veloster N TCR shares about 85 percent of the core components with the i30 N TCR, including the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 350 horsepo…

Previous Page Next Page The RC F Track Edition won't have all of the spotlight to itself at Detroit next week. Lexus has revealed today the LC Convertible concept that will be rolling out on the auto show floor next week. Lexus is really stretching the definition of what it means to be a concept. To our eyes, the LC Convertible concept looks like it is ready to sit in the nearest Lexus showroom. Changes from the standard LC coupe include a slightly longer rear deck to house the power folding-top (we're thinking its a soft-top) and massive 22-inch alloy wheels. No mention of what's under the hood, but we're betting its the 5.0L V8 with…

Someone at Lincoln Canada isn't having the best of days. The site revealed the 2016 Lincoln MKX before its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show on Tuesday. We're assuming this is an accidental leak judging by how the link to the MKX now leads to an error page. But nevertheless, we have pictures and some information about Lincoln's newest model. The exterior very much mimics the smaller MKC crossover and that isn't a bad thing, since it doesn't look like a rebadged Ford Edge. Such details as HID lights with LED accents, a camera that pops up from the front emblem, and a panoramic sunroof are apparent in the pictures. Inside, the interior layout is similar to newer Linc…

On Monday, Chevrolet will be unveiling the next generation Chevrolet Volt. That car's powertrain will have the familiar Volt setup of an on-board regenerator. In addition to that, Chevrolet will be unveiling a concept car called the Bolt that can travel up to 200 miles on a single charge and has an initial price point of $30,000. Though the Bolt is a concept, it is set to go into production for the 2017 model year, so we could see it on the road in as little as 18 months. Chevrolet already builds a pure electric version of the Chevrolet Spark. It starts at around $20,000, has a range of 82 miles, and more pound-ft of torque than some full-size pickups, but it is current…

That was fast. Almost a couple of years after introducing the Jaguar C-X17 crossover concept to the world, Jaguar announced that a production version would be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in March. The automaker also revealed the name of the production version - the F-Pace. While we are still scratching our heads as to why Jaguar has named the crossover the F-Pace, we should give them some credit for not naming it a combination of letters and numbers. The crossover will have seating for five people, come with all-wheel drive, and feature inspiration from the F-Type. "In 2015 we will celebrate the 80th year of Jaguar. We have started it by announcing our first perfo…

Aside from Buick's Avenir, the other big surprise on the eve of the Detroit Auto Show comes from Land Rover. The diesel engine is the turbocharged 3.0L V6 producing 254 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. This will come paired up to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Land Rover claims fuel economy figures of 22 City/28 Highway/25 Combined and a total highway range of 658 miles, the distance it would take to drive from New York City to Detroit. Acceleration is a hair slower than the 3.0L Supercharged V6 counterpart: Range Rover…

Infiniti shared a full picture of the Q60 Concept due to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show next week. Shown here in coupe form, the Q60 concept takes the Q60 (née G37 coupe) down a more aggressive looking route. While this is labeled a concept, one look at the sister car Q50 sedan will tell you that there is no reason Infiniti would need to vary the look much once in production. If you imagine this car with production mirrors, wheels, and a simpler lower air intake area, you'll probably be pretty close to the real thing. Under the hood, expect the standard compliment of a 3.7 liter V6 with output in the 330 horsepower range and a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-whee…

At the North American International Auto Show, Buick surprised us all with this stunning concept vehicle, the Buick Avenir. Avenir in French means "Coming Soon" or "In the near future", and we certainly hope so. The Avenir is a large sedan that visually can stand with the likes of the Bentley Mulsanne or the Mercedes Benz S-class, yet it does so with entirely Buick looks. Classic visual cues like the boat-tail trunk, the sweep spear, the large waterfall grille, and the 3-port fender vents merge with more modern cues like the check mark light pipes in the front and rear light clusters, and the hockey stick design element in the front doors to bring together old and new wi…

After three years and about 17 different concept variations (at least that what it feels like), Acura has finally revealed the 2016 NSX. As we suspected earlier this week, Buick is bringing the Opel Cascada Convertible stateside to be sold as a Buick. Much of what we know of the Opel Cascada carries over to the Buick, with the primary difference being with powertrain selection. While the Europeans get 3 engine choices, we only get one. That's not entirely a bad thing in this case as the 1.4T gasoline and 2.0T diesel would not likely be suitable for most American convertible buyers' tastes. The engine we get in the US is a new to us 1.6 liter turbo-charged, direct injected 4-cylinder that produces 200 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque. This engine also features an overboost feature that will temporarily b…

At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit today, Chevrolet unveiled the all new 2016 Chevrolet Volt. The biggest news is the increase in EV range from 38 miles to 50 miles and an increased combined range of up to 420 miles on a full battery and full tank of fuel. Under the hood is a new 1.5 liter, direct injected 4-cylinder producing 101 horsepower. The battery pack has lost 20 lbs and the range extender has lost 100 lbs. The battery capacity has increased to 18.1 kWh though the number of battery cells has dropped from 288 to 192. The Volt now no longer requires premium fuel. At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Nissan revealed the 2016 Nissan Titan XD. Nissan has been trailing in the full-size pickup truck segment for a number of years and hope to change that with the new Titan. Easily the biggest news on the Titan is the new 5.0 liter turbo-charged V8 Diesel. This makes the Titan the only truck in the half-ton market with a diesel V8. The new 5.0 diesel is supplied by Cummins and produces 310 horsepower and a stump ripping 555 lb-ft. This gives the Titan towing and hauling abilities closer to those in a heavy duty pickup but in the size and price class of the light duty pickups. When appropriately equipped, the Titan ca…

Toyota released all the details today on the coming 2016 Toyota Tacoma. We showed you some preview pictures of the 2016 Tacoma a few days ago, and we get the specs. Toyota's rebuilt Tacoma appears to be more of a strong refresh rather than the "all-new" that Toyota claims. The frame has been reinforced with high strength steel, body panels are now formed with a hot stamping method that increases strength while decreasing weight, and the suspension has been re-tuned for better on-road comfort while increasing off-road abilities. The words "bold" and "Volvo" don't normally go together, but when an auto maker effectively starts a new segment, you have to call the move bold regardless of its eventual success. Ahead of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week, Volvo took the wraps off the S60 Cross Country. What is bold about it? Well, it is a crossover luxury sedan. The wagon version, the V60 Cross Country, was revealed in November 2014 at the LA Auto Show. The S60 Cross Country effectively increases the luxury crossover sedan segment count from zero to one. The S60 CC takes the standard S60 and gives it a 2.5 inch lift in ride height and makes AWD standard in the US market. …

Last June, we reported on Volvo's intention to bring over a long-wheelbase version of the S60. This marked an important milestone for the brand as this would be their first vehicle that would exported from China. Detroit saw the Swedish automaker introduce the long-wheelbase S60, but under a new trim. Meet the 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription. Compared to the standard S60, the Inscription gets an additional 3.4 inches between the B and C-pillars (182.5 for the standard S60 vs. 185.9 for the S60 Inscription). This is to improve rear-legroom which in the standard S60 is quite tight. The Inscription also gets nicer wood trim, larger sunroof, and unique 19-inch wheels that are exc…

As a preview to the unveiling of the 2016 Nissan Titan on January 12th, Nissan released teaser images and video of the upcoming redesign of its full size truck. Sales of the Nissan Titan are typically in last place behind the Detroit-3 and the Toyota Tundra. Nissan is hoping to change that with the 2016 Titan. In the video, we can see the new truck being put through various performance tests and if you look closely, you can get a hint of the new interior as well. Buick today posted a picture of their display for the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that begins next week. If you look closely at the picture, you can clearly see a convertible suspended from a large ribbon like structure over top of the rest of the cars on the floor and it looks a lot like the Opel Cascada. Speculation has run rampant about the possibility of Buick introducing the Cascada to the US for a while now. In fact, we even sent Buick our take on the Cascada during our Buick Week feature back in 2012. The Opel Cascada was unveiled in October 2012. The past year has seen a number of rumors and spy shots saying that Cadillac was planning an ATS Coupe. Well the rumors and spy shots were correct as Cadillac introduced the 2015 ATS Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show today. The ATS Coupe is much more conservative in its design than the Cadillac CTS Coupe. The lines are very similar to the ATS sedan. The Coupe does have two differentiating design cues from the sedan. The first is the coupe has a much wider track than the sedan. The second is that the ATS features Cadillac's new crestless emblem. The ATS Coupe will come with the choice of two different engines. The base will be the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder with 272 ho…

Take everything that love about the Corvette Z06 and ZR1, mash them up, and put it into the C7. What do you end up with? Most likely the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 which premiered at the Detroit Auto Show today. The 2015 Z06 is much more aggressive than the model it replaces. Compared to the standard Corvette Stingray, the Z06 2.2-inches wider up front and 3.15-inches wider in the back to make room for bigger tires and brakes. Chevrolet moved such items such as hood vents and rear taillights to keep the Z06 proportioned nicely. There are also flared out fenders, larger vents, and a new inlet design on the rear fenders to get cool air to the transmission and differential…

What you're looking at here is the most important vehicle for Ford. The F-150 is not only the best selling model in Ford's lineup, but a pivotal part of the company's bottom line. Every generation of the F-150 is a make or break, with no generation taking a bigger risk than the brand new 2015 model debuting at Detroit. For starters, the 2015 F-150 is 700 pounds lighter than the model it replaces. 70 percent of that weight loss goes to a new aluminum alloy used in most of the body. The aluminum alloy is similar to what is used on military HMMWVs and aerospace applications. Ford also increased the amount of high-strength steel in the frame. The automaker says this combinat…

When Chevrolet introduced the 2015 Colorado at the LA Auto Show in November, there was one question we had: Where was the sister truck, the GMC Canyon? Well, GM has answered that question as the Canyon was revealed before the Detroit Auto Show. The first thing you notice about the 2015 GMC Canyon is how much it looks like the Sierra and Sierra HD models. This is especially apparent when looking at the front end as the Canyon has the same grille and C-Shaped headlights as its bigger brothers. This really helps set apart the Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado. Also like the Sierra, the Canyon will be available with the All-Terrain package which addsa body colored grille surroun…

Almost a year after MINI revealed the new Cooper Hardtop, the automaker announced the hotted-up John Cooper Works model that will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month. The new John Cooper Works model comes equipped with a tuned 2.0L TwinPower turbo four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. You can pair this with either a six-speed manual or automatic. MINI quotes 0-60 MPH times of 6.1 seconds for the manual or 5.9 seconds for the automatic. A sports suspension will be standard on the John Cooper Works to provide excellent handling. However if you value your spine, you'll be happy to hear that you'll be able to swap the standard suspension at n…

Volkswagen has a double feature for next week's Detroit Auto Show. One will be a production model, while the other one is a concept. First up is the production model which is the 2015 Volkswagen Golf R for North American. Like its European counterpart, the Golf R will come with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 290 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. New for the North American version is the choice between a six-speed manual or DSG transmission. Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system will get all of that power to the wheels. 0-60 MPH is quoted at 4.9 seconds for the DSG and 5.3 seconds for the manual. Other changes for the 2015 Golf R will include a stabi…

Here is the model that will take the place of the Acura TL and TSX later this year. Meet the Acura TLX Prototype which debut at the Detroit Auto Show today. The TLX will slot in between the compact ILX and range-topping RLX, giving Acura three distinct sedans. Billed as a concept, the TLX Prototype is pretty much what we'll sell in production. The overall shape reminds us of the ILX and features the company's Jewel Eye headlights. Sizewise, the TLX is about 3.8 inches shorter than the TL. However the two models have the same wheelbase length of 109.3 inches. Powertrains will include a new direct-injected 2.4L four-cylinder and a direct-injected 3.5L V6 with cylinder dea…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 15, 2013 Wait, didn't Acura show the NSX Concept last year? Well yes, aside from one thing; there was no interior. That changed today as Acura unveiled the NSX Concept with an interior. Acura says the interior is based on the "Human Support Cockpit" theme, which focuses on the "synergy between man and machine." In other words, the interior has simplified layout with a lot of technology. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 12, 2013 After someone leaked out pictures and some information concerning the next M3 and new M4, BMW decided to show its hand. Last night, the German automaker spilled the beans on the 2015 M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe. The two models get the usual assortment of M exterior pieces which include power bulge hood, front air dams, fender vents, and a rear diffuser. Around back, the M3 and M4 have different ideas of how to do a spoiler. The M3 has a lip spoiler, while the M4 has the spoiler integrated into the trunk lid. Powering the M3 and M4 is a 3.0L twin-turbo inline-six with 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torq…

Usually, the announcement of a Chinese vehicle debuting an auto show doesn't make our radar. But this one is a bit different. The Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) will be bringing three vehicles to the Detroit Auto Show, one of them will be a world premiere. This isn't GAC's first time in Detroit. A couple years back, the company showed off several vehicles. The world premiere is the GAC Motor GS4, a "high-performance compact sport-utility vehicle". We're a bit dubious on the 'high-performance' part as this vehicle will come with either a 1.3L or 1.5L engines, both turbocharged. However, the GS4's looks seem to fit the 'high-performance' concept with a lowered roofline, …

Almost two months after Mercedes-Benz showed off the Concept GLA45 AMG at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show, the German luxury automaker has revealed the production GLA45 AMG before its official debut at Detroit. If you're having a bit of of déjà vu, you're not the only one. The concept and production GLA45 AMG are essentially the same in their design. On the outsider, there is a unique front fascia with a twin-blade grille, a choice of three different wheel options, and a rear-diffuser with dual exhausts. The inside is similar to the CLA45 AMG with new seats, a floating screen for the infotainment system, and other tweaks to make it feel like an AMG product. Under the hoo…

Honda is the latest automaker to announce their showings for next month's Detroit Auto Show. Honda says the new model will retain the same innovative floorplan that allows for a huge cargo area while featuring a new set of technologies. Under the skin will be the brand's EarthDreams powertrain technologies and Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure. Honda also revealed that the 2015 Fit will be made at a brand-new factory in Celaya, Mexico for the North American market.…

Honda arrived at the Detroit Auto Show with the brand new 2015 Fit. The new model which originally debuted last summer as a global market model has a number of improvements to put it back into contention in the subcompact marketplace. The overall shape of the 2015 Fit is dominated by hard angles. The back end features new LED taillights and a rear diffuser. Finishing off the design is a set of of sixteen-inch alloy wheels. The 2015 Fit is incrementally shorter by 1.6 inches, wider by 0.3 inches, and a features a wheelbase that is 1.2 inches longer. When Hyundai introduced the Genesis sedan back in 2009, many were skeptical that the automaker could sell a luxury car in the U.S. Well Hyundai has been able to prove them wrong as the Genesis was improved and sales climbed upward. As a reward, Hyundai has decided to continue on with the Genesis and introduced the next-generation at the Detroit Auto Show today. The 2015 Genesis heralds a new design language that Hyundai calls Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. This begins up front with a flatter end and a large hexagonal grille. The side profile features a number of character creases, a coupe-like sloping rear windshield, and sharp looking alloy wheels. In the cabin, the Genesis is …

We're just a couple weeks away from the Detroit Auto Show and Kia has given us a glimpse of what they'll be showing. Meet the the GT4 Stinger Concept, a 2+2 sports car. From what we can tell from this teaser shot, the concept will feature the automaker's signature grill and a set of vertical LED headlamps along either side. There is also a cooling vents for the brakes and carbon fiber front splitter. More intriguing is what's under the hood - a turbocharged 2.0L (we're thinking four-cylinder) that makes 315 horsepower and sends it to the rear wheels. We'll have more information on the GT4 Stinger when it debuts at the Detroit Auto Show on January 13th. Source: Kia Wi…
