Why does the administrator delete a link that doesn't have anything more than a link? He seems to want you to discuss what is in the link in addition to posting a link. Why? Besides his forum..his rules? Is the DO NOT SPAM message an automatic link? Or does he personally E Mail everyone who posts a link without additional words/comments. Somehow to accuse someone of spam (for sending one link) seems a bit offensive. Thanks.

Good morning, We apologize strongly with regards to the Spam message you received overnight. We were attacked by Spam bots and they have been dealt with. In addition to addressing the bot that attacked us yesterday, we've implemented the following changes. Manual approval of all new accounts, any new user is approved by me personally before they are allowed to post anything or send Private Messages. New Users cannot PM more than 2 members until they've made 10 approved posts in our forums. New users cannot edit their About Me until 10 approved posts, this limits potential for profile link Spam. Cars.com Interesting...it says that the new Avalon has "average" reliability, as does the RL and Odyssey. Nissan's not doing so hot either...the Titan, Armada, QX56, and Quest rank among the 48 least-reliable vehicles sold. Yeah, maybe for some of recently laid-to-rest models like the Cavalier and Windstar before Detroit began actively pursuing higher quality. Who says that still holds true today? Why is CR always so quick to jump on the domestics without even giving them a chance to prove themselves?

Two questions for the community - 1. Would you like/not mind/dislike/hate an an article stream where I posted coupon codes and other automotive related deals? These would be targeted specials and C&G would get a kickback if you used the coupon code. Those of you who are premium subscribers would still see the deals even though you are exempted from other advertising. 2. How would you feel about me installing an AdBlock detector? I know many of you use Adblock, as does an increasing amount of our guest traffic. Our falling ad revenues reflect that (whitelist us maybe? I don't run intrusive ads). If ads do bother you a lot, would you consider purchasing a…

I am currently in discussions with a contact at GM for C&G to receive test vehicles for us to review. I am looking for editors to join the staff who would be willing to review and write these articles. I can only accept one or two positions. You must be over 25 years old, have access to a good digital camera <no camera phones>, and be fully licensed to drive. Some ability to write well would be helpful. There may be further requirements.

As seen on Autoblog.. ndian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. will shake up the U.S. truck market next year when it introduces a new midsize pickup called the Appalachian sporting a 2.2L four-cylinder diesel engine producing around 150 horsepower and 300 pound feet of torque. Speaking with Mike Levine from Pickuptruck.com, John Perez, the CEO of Atlanta-based importer Global Vehicles U.S.A. that's aiding Mahindra's entry into the U.S. market, revealed that the truck will deliver 30 to 35 miles per gallon and cost in the mid-$20,000 range. It will be paired with a six-speed automatic that's controlled via a floor-mounted shifter or paddle shifters(!), have a class-l…

Behold, The PhUV - Philippine Utility Vehicle MANILA, Philippines — Feast your eyes on the Philippine Utility Vehicle, or PhUV, the latest attempt from this island country's government to create a national car. To be priced at around $7,500, it is cheap, but is it any good? The Philippines is a very small market, and most people can't afford a new car. There are several businesses in the country, especially around the city of Cebu, that specialize in converting used Japanese vans into pickup trucks. Public transportation is partly handled by jeepneys, minibus-like contraptions with fiberglass bodies. Seven-seat closed light commercial vehicles are popular here and all…

Its unfortunate that I have the need to post another message like this to everyone, and because I really don't have the desire to remind some of our legacy members of this simple fact, I'll keep it succinct. When someone chooses to share information, you DO NOT have to agree, but you MUST afford them respect. I'm sure I'm not the only one tired of seeing someone being called out simply because they don't use a "proper" disclaimer, like 'this may not be true' or 'don't take it as fact.' Another simple reality is that certain members of this board do know more than the average bystander about happenings inside the industry. If you do not agree with their posts, that's fin…

Hey, guys. To address the recent and growing problems with our server, C&Gs host provider is going to be moving the forum to a better, more reliable server on Friday, November 24th. Scheduled downtime is approx 1 hour, which will occur between approx 5:00PM Friday and 3:00AM Saturday. This will hopefully cure what has been ailing us. In the meantime, I and all the other moderators (except Ven) truly appreciate your patience and loyalty while we work to improve our connection issues. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving! -Brian

Insideline DETROIT — Exterior and interior images of the redesigned 2010 Toyota Prius have been posted at Priuschat.com and subsequently snapped up around the blogosphere. Toyota spokesman Curt McAllister on Thursday morning confirmed for Inside Line the authenticity of the images, and said they were "accidentally leaked." He added, "More details at the Detroit show." The car's formal unveiling is slated for January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The new Prius will face off against the Honda Insight, which was introduced last month at the Paris show and also goes on sale next year as a 2010 model. Look for the Insight to be priced from $2,000-$3,000 below the Prius.…

Why do I need to constantly log back in? Most of the time, I open this site, log in, click view new posts, read a couple, then try to reply to one, and when I click submit post, it says I can't because I need to log in. I log in again, and I'm taken back to the front page, with my reply not being posted. It's getting very annoying.

Well, we're back and kickin' butt, so we decided to make a few revisions while we could. Allow me the break the changes down for you. The Other Guys has now been broken down into four distinct sections by geography or company - Ford, DCX, Europe, and Asia. We decided the placement of each individual make should be based on what's commonly accepted as 'country of origin' (Japan for Nissan though its French-owned) and ease of grouping (a new platform shared by multiple Ford divisions placed in Ford rather than Ford, European, and Asian). C&G takes pride in our easy navigability and we hope this will be easy and hassle-free for everyone. 2006 …

I have two suggestions for forum additions that I think will better organize C&G. First, the some of the brands in the GM Family have current and future model/plan subsections. I think we need to add a subsection for past models for each brand since there's really not an "appropriate" place to put threads about them. Currently, they're being posted in the current model sections. I think it will better organize things. Second, I've noticed there's been an increase in the amount of video links being posted. I think there should be a separate forum section to post these to reduce the amount of clutter in other sections of the forum. Any thoughts?

There are a number of issues that have come to our attention in the past several weeks or so, and it’s time for us to address them. As the auto show season quickly approaches us we here at C&G have realized we need a different way to update the site. With myself and Chris Pauwels (aka Crispey2k) being invited to an invite only event here in Metro Detroit for the NAIAS we have some pretty significant things in store for members and visitors alike of C&G. So, in light of the situation we have before us, Frank Donato aka z28luvr has done a fantastic job of keeping C&G's previous look and "morphing" it of sorts to a new front page that is far and away easier to update literally from any computer. In doing that, updates to the front page will be more frequent as myself, Z, F…

( 7203.TO), the top-selling Japanese automaker, boosted fleet sales 16% in the first seven months of 2005 compared to the like period in 2004, according to R.L. Polk, while Nissan Motor Co. 2005 has been a turbulant year in so many respects. For most of us, we spent the past twelve months seeing continued war in the Middle East, unfathomable natural disasters, and stratospheric gas prices. We've also seen the automaker we care and admire face difficulties of its own with the postponing or cancellation of several models and the sword of Damocles that is bankruptcy. The forums we call home have probably been up-and-running about 80% of the past year. And a few among us have even lost cars, jobs, or worse. I've felt a general malaise around here now and then, often evidenced by our conduct towards our fellow members. In light of that, I'd like to…

A new supercar and a new concept in motorsport entertainment November 20, 2005 One of our favourite television shows, the BBC’s Top Gear, tests all the very fast road cars and it runs them around the same test circuit so times can be directly compared. The fastest they’ve ever had around the circuit was a Maserati MC12, followed by an Enzo Ferrari, an Ariel Atom, a Porsche Carrera GT and a McLaren Mercedes – until recently, when an Ascari KZ1 pushed the McLaren out of the top five. To put the feat into perspective, consider the cars that have been around the same stretch of tarmac and are not in the five fastest –Ford GT, Ferrari 360 CS, Porsche GT3 RS, Lamborghini M…

Bravada of GMI have posted about the commercial from North Korea about the car called 'Pyongwha Whiparam'(Pyongwha means Peace in Korean, and Whiparam means Whistle in Korean). It is actually an old Fiat Palio which surely seems that way. In the commercial, they are claiming that they developped and built locally, but you will see what I mean. Kinda brings back memories of how Hyundais and Kias first started in the early 70's before they could make their own models(Pony(Hyundai's very first model of 1974 I think), Kia Brisa and stuff). Just when you thought you had enough about the cheap Chinese cars whom are readying to invade US.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=…

We opened Clubs back in 2018, but there was little interest in them, so in late 2019 we shut them down. The Clubs software has evolved substantially since then, so we are now reopening them. You can view all available clubs, or create a new one of your own, at this link. https://www.cheersandgears.com/clubs/ They are also visible under the Community Menu.

I posted a thread in the European competition forum today and for some reason, the site decided to not let me post at all. When I tried posting it for a third time, it finally let me do it, but ended up with two other threads. Can someone fix this issue and get rid of the last two threads? Check before you delete though....if you can even do that. EDIT: I see the problem was fixed. Thank you.

New Affiliate To C&G & An Update
by Guest Josh- 5 replies

Roseville, MI - When we re-launched the new C&G we knew we were looking to change a few things. The first being the new forums of course and the layout of the homepage of the web-site. We also wish to make a tremendous effort towards courting new affiliates and attracting sponsorship to C&G, something that has been missing since it's inception. While we will stay away from pop-ups we cannot deny the fact that we are actively searching for advertisers to advertise their product on C&G to reach a worldwide audience. One quick glance at our most recent statistics shows that people from countries such as China, Japan, Australia, Argentina, and Korea visited th…

There is a new feature coming in the software, Clubs. They work much in the same way that Facebook groups do. That is, any standard member can create and run a club. Clubs can have their own topics, galleries, blogs, and calendar. You can literally run your own mini-forum inside of CheersandGears if you wanted. If you create a club, you can have control over its membership, appoint moderators, or have it be invisible to the general public (Admins can still see everything of course). Topics from Clubs can be moved to the general forum and vice versa. If a bunch of you are Game of Thrones fans and want to chat together in a "Club" here on C&G, you can…

Folks, I'm looking at running a cleanup on the forums. The plan is to delete any thread that has one post and zero replies and isn't a pinned thread. This will happen in most forums except the sales ticker threads or any other forum that jumps out at me as needing to be archived. This will reduce many/most people's post counts. I know some of you are more concerned than others with this. Objections? Comments? Concerns?

I've found the site very slow to navigate today, with timeouts when clicking on topic links, on the 'Unread Content' link, etc. Some pages load quickly, some very slowly or are timing out.

I've been a little annoyed by the latest PM settings on the forums. I never know when I have a PM in my inbox because it just shows up as a little green square in the top corner of my screen, so I've set out to find a fix. For those of you annoyed with this too, follow these steps to enable a pop-up notification every time you receive a PM. First, go to the top right corner of the screen, and you'll see this: Click on the arrow, and you'll get this drop down menu: Select "My Settings" and you'll be brought to this page: Select "Notification Options" and you'll see this section when you scroll down a bit: Click the check mark on the first option (Show popup wh…

I've noticed that every once in a while when I visit, C&G will fail to load and give me an error message. It's been happening more frequently over the last week. It usually takes a while for it to start working again. Just thought I'd give a heads up and see if anyone else has been having this issue.

But it should be worth it... We're now on the newest version of Linux server OS. I've doubled the amount of ram. I've doubled the number of processors and we've moved a couple generations newer. We're now on Solid State Disk rather than spinning disk. I haven't tuned the software to it's new roomier digs yet, so hopefully there is even more performance to be gained once I do.

I have a number of changes and additions coming for you guys over the next 6 months. I installed a plug-in that will catch a bad email address and then flag your account for review. It will keep popping up a window until you re-enter a valid and validated e-mail address. The reason for this is that if we send out emails and they bounce, email servers begin to think we're just spammers or scammers fishing for victims, and then our valid emails end up in spam folders. By taking this step, it will prevent C&G from being labeled as a spam server. So, if you haven't updated your email address in a while, please do so in your profile to the upper left. If …

We're going to install a new K&N Filter, CAI, 4" exahust tip, and bright red spark plug wires. Not really. We're just going to upgrade to the latest version of IP.Board. We should see some improvements in speed and reliability, as some of the scripts were rewritten for IPB 2.3.x. A new front page is in the works, but we're putting that off in lieu of the DB crash.

Yes yes... I broke the front page. I'm not sure what happened. I was upgrading the Garage system to the latest version and for some reason it took out the uPortal app that runs our front page. I've tried re-installing uPortal to no avail. I'm debating whether to put my efforts into fixing the uPortal app or if I should just finally bite the bullet and activate the Pages system that was intended to replace it.

C&G NAIAS Meet?

Trying to get a gauge on how many people are planning to come to teh NAIAS and if a C&G meet could be put together for either the days leading up to the official show, during the show or the last few days of the show. I'll be there quite a few times as usual sporting my C&G T. I'd like to get a formal meet together if we could.

I've noticed an unusual situation going on. There's massive amount (and I do mean massive) of advertising for the Japanese brands going on for some reason on radio. Why I say unusual, because even the dealers that aren't usually advertising, are doing so now. It's like on the radio usually it's the same 2-3 dealers, but this morning I've heard 5 different dealers advertising in a row already. They're all claiming they're offering at least $4-5000 off the new 2008 Hondas and Toyotas, with 0.9% finance rate (Usually this is up at least 3.9% with the other import brands) plus GST rebate, and even up to $7000 on 2007s. Mazda seems worse, they're offering $9000 on some new 200…

I'm sure you've all noticed the nice new thing at the top of the forums. Looks good, but I dislike it for two reasons. First is that it is wide, causing potential unwanted sideways scrolling. Secondly, it has no "Log Out" link that I can find, meaning I cannot change screen names and pretend to be everybody's favorite crazy Floridian.

I am pleased to announced that I have been invited by none other than GM's PR firm to attend the press days for the 2008 New York International Auto Show. This year promises to be a fantastic show, and C&G will be there to witness it all. What can you expect to see? I don't want to reveal my full hand just yet, but here is some of it: World debuts of production and/or concept cars from Pontiac and Saab A fashion show highlighting the unveiling of the new Saab "BioPower" clothing line A luncheon with Buick designers, featuring a live sketch of its latest concept Interviews with various GM designers, engineers, and executives, including none other than Bob Lutz Interv…

Lately, there have been a lot of reposts with debuts, and it is understandable but I think it can be prevented. Reposted topics simply add clutter to the forum and make it hard to navigate at times (and confusion occurs when there are multipul topics because people don't know which they've already posted in). As a result, I, along with other Admins, are going to make an effort to pin topics that we want the discussions to be in. If you find another story about a vehicle that has debuted and you think it is significantly different from what has already posted, please simply post a link to that story, but do not post the whole story in the thread as that requires excess sc…
