  1. GM & UAW Reach An Agreement Over Labor Contracts William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 19, 2011 This morning, General Motors and the United Auto Workers announced they have reached a tentative four-year labor agreement. The agreement, which will effect about 48,500 GM employees in the US, will begin to be to ratify over the next seven to ten days. GM is being mum on the details on the contract, but The Detroit News and Automotive News has uncovered some parts of the contract. The contract gives a $5000 signing bonus to eligible UAW-represented GM employees. Also, the contract raises the pay of entry-level workers by $2 to $3 m…

September 26th, 2013 Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com Patent Drawings published on September 19th reveal that General Motors has filed a patent for a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission. While there has been talk about a conventional GM 8-Speed automatic for a while, a 7-Speed DCT could give GM an upmarket transmission to offer in premium products from Cadillac or the Chevrolet Corvette. At the moment, the 2014 Corvette Stingray will be shipping with a 6-speed auto when the buyer opts not to row his own, leading us to believe that this 7-Speed DCT could be offered in the Corvette in the future. We also speculate that with a couple of V-series Cadillacs …

GM's performance wows Wall Street Associated Press Jul. 27, 2006 12:00 AM General Motors Corp. lost $3.2 billion in the second quarter because of heavy charges for layoffs and early retirements, part of its massive restructuring program. But without those charges, the world's largest automaker scored a profit that blew Wall Street away and bolstered management's claim that the turnaround is working. GM shares rose $1.34, or 4.4 percent, to close at $32 on the New York Stock Exchange. They have traded in a 52-week range of $18.33 to $37.57. The loss of $5.62 per share in the April-June period compared with a loss of $987 million, or $1.75 per share, for the same peri…

Akerson gave Mary Barra, a manufacturing engineer Stephen's old job. A person close to the situation states, that it was Hresko's own decision and not a management shakeup. Why was the Aura a G6 in drag and not the genuine German Opel? Will the Regal be dumbed down compared to the German engineered car it appears to be identical to? This …

I have to agree with the commentary for the most part - but haven't we been hearing this doom and gloom story about GM losing market share and going bankrupt , not being competitive, etc, etc, for a very long time? Here it is, 2008, and GM is still here. Something else I th…

Industry followers more accustomed to hearing about large layoffs or sickening sales declines were startled when GM said its U.S. sales rose 3.7 percent in February, even as its two domestic rivals, Ford and Chrysler, posted sizable declines and the overall market was flat. GM’s gain in the normally soft month was led by strong demand for its sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks including the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado. Even more impressive, the gain came without the huge sales incentives of previous years. Link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17467382/

Yesterday, we reported Tesla cut prices on their 2019 model year vehicles to soften the blow. But what about GM? A source told Reuters that GM hit the 200,000 model milestone during the fourth quarter of last year - most likely happening in December. This begins the 15-month phase-out which will see the credit drop to $3,750 in April, $1,875 in October, and then disappear next April. GM declined to comment about this, but we're likely to find out later this morning as the company will be anno…

GM: We Still Have Too Many Pickups William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 27, 2011 GM still has a problem of too many pickups. Supplies of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra have been going down from a high of 122 days in June to 108 days in August by idling plants over the summer. However this isn't enough as GM wants a 90 day supply of trucks by the end of the year. To help reach that goal, GM will be idling their Fort Wayne, Ind for a week in November. “We make adjustments at our plants based on demand, whether it means adding overtime or in this case taking a down week,” said GM spokesman Chris Lee. Sales of the two truc…

  60. Jamie LaReau Automotive News January 2, 2008 - 4:42 pm ET DETROIT -- General Motors will shift its advertising emphasis from full-sized pickups and SUVs to cars and small SUVs in 2008. The automaker also will highlight its fuel economy and eco-friendliness, says Mark LaNeve, GM’s vice president of North American vehicle sales, service and marketing. GM also will continue the shift from traditional to digital advertising in 2008, LaNeve says. GM still believes the full-sized light-truck market is strong and will hold its position in that segment, LaNeve says. But new GM advertising will build upon the momentum of recent launches such as the Chevrolet Malibu …

That's probably why Tiger loved every Buick made over the last decade in all of those Buick commercials. But when GM hit the skids early this year it dumped Woods a year early from the 10-year contract. So here's the strange part. The smoking gun recently published Tiger's police report from the accident ( http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2009/1202092woods1.html ) and it turns out that the Black Cadillac Escalade belongs to General Motors. That will soon change as GM is readying updated models of the Enclave and Acadia, as shown here via some new spy shots. From what the pictures show, the overall shape remains the same. Buick's existing 6 year / 70,000 mile powertrain warranty remains in effect. General Motors began offering 5 year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranties in 2007 at a time when public confidence in the company was low.
