Back in 2014, Chevrolet introduced a small delivery van called the City Express. The new little can was the result of a marketing agreement between Nissan and General Motors for Chevy to rebadge Nissan's successful NV200 small delivery wagon. But where Nissan did well, Chevrolet faltered and the City Express languished on lots. Typical sales months for the CE were in the triple digits while by comparison, Ford moved as many as five times that amount with its direct competitor the Transit Connect. Automotive News reports that back in September, dealers were told to stop ordering them and as of February this year the last City Express rolled off the line and has alr…

Edmunds Long-Term Intro: 2007 Chevy Tahoe LT Following the untimely departure of our Jeep Commander from the long-term fleet, we felt obligated to choose another full-size SUV as a replacement. A new platform, redesigned exterior and improved interior made the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe LT a suitable choice. It only seemed appropriate that it was also equipped with 4WD. [...] We haven't yet taken the Tahoe on any off-road adventures to test the capability of its 4WD and 3.73 rear axle; although the truck did just square off in a comparison test, complete with a tow-test, with the Ford Expedition. Not to mention we'll begin posting our experiences on the long-term blog page…

Has anyone seen the new Malibu commercial? It shows a Camry, then this suspensful music and the camera pans to the Malibu's imposing front end and up comes the text "CAMRY BEWARE" Car & Driver, November 2007" with the accompanying voice saying "Malibu, the car you cant ignore." It's a pretty good commercial. Short, and gets its point across.

Linkity First Drive: 2010 Chevrolet Cruze Forget the Volt -- This is the Car That Must Save GM Highlights: Solid Delta II Structure Choice of diesel, gas 4-cylinder engines (Euro Version) Good Interior Layout The Chevrolet Cruze has different jobs wherever it's sold. In the U.S., where it goes on sale from mid-2010, it will be a locally made rival to the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. But in Europe, where we've just driven it, it's GM's Korean-made budget-brand entry and sits beneath the same-sized Opel (and sometime Saturn) Astra in GM's price and brand hierarchy. GM's been promising Americans an "import fighter" small car for years -- a…

Next-gen Chevy Camaro ZL1 teases big changes under its camo Autoblog August 3, 2015 With work complete on the lighter, stiffer 2016 Camaro, it's time for Chevrolet's engineers to really start having fun by developing the next, ZL1 version. Here it is for the first time. Unfortunately, the muscle car is still wearing quite a bit of camouflage, but the concealment isn't enough to hide some of the meaner model's more obvious performance tweaks. Starting from the front, this Camaro now wears a much more aggressive front fascia with bigger air inlets. Managing the airflow around the engine bay is clearly a big deal because another photo reveals a fairly large extr…

3-3-3 Formula 300 Horsepower 3,000 Pounds 30,000 Dollars It is very easy to lose sight of what makes a car successful in the market place. Yes, styling, brand image and engineering excellence play huge roles. But, ultimately, the best selling cars are often not the most stylish, prestigious and well engineered. When it comes to sporty cars it is important that we recognize that they appeal most to younger people who are starting out in life and have limited financial resources. Before we get to making a car look pretty, marketing it properly and making sure it doesn't break, I believe that it is important that we define it in such a way that is is fast enough, agile en…

I went to Chevy's revitup event in Irvine, CA today and went through quite a few cars... 2008 Malibu LTZ - I couldn't drive it as it was a pre-production model. That meant the trunklid didn't fit properly and some of the interior trim pieces were kinda falling apart. But I took that into consideration and tried to form an overall impression anyway. Styling - I love it... I think it's one of the best-looking family sedans out there. It's very Germanic in appearance, a lot like the VW Phaeton/Bentley Flying Spur, and the details are amazing. The front grille is wonderful, the one-piece chrome window trim is impressive, the hood cutline is interesting, the paint looks lu…

I saw a 2008 Malibu this week out driving through town. I didn't get a close look, as it was in oncoming traffic on a 5-lane center divided street, but it stuck out! I recognized it immediately. Beige metallic in color with chrome rims. This is in small town Iowa, south of the capital, our local dealership doesn't even have any yet. Has anyone else seen one out on the streets and highways?

Chevy Aveo performs poorly in European crash test Posted Feb 27th 2006 2:00PM by John Neff Filed under: Economy The European New Car Assessment Program (E-NCAP), which is sort of the EU equivalent to our own NHTSA or IIHS, recently tested the European version of the Chevy Aveo and found it to be severely lacking in occupant protection during 64 kmh (40 mph) frontal impacts. The risk is especially great to the driver, as the E-NCAP tests showed the Aveo’s steering wheel may cause severe chest injury. The Aveo received two stars and a strike through in the category of Adult Occupant Protection, the strike through indicating there is a high risk for life-threatening inju…

2015 brings a big change for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray as the six-speed automatic transmission says adiós and the eight-speed automatic says hello. The new eight-speed features a more aggressive first gear ratio and lower rear axle ratio. This allows the 0-60 MPH time to drop from 3.8 to 3.7 seconds and a improved quarter mile time of 11.9 seconds (times are for the Corvette Stingray equipped with the Z51 package). Fuel economy also sees a slight bump with Corvette Stingray now getting 29 MPG on the highway. City and combined numbers are still the same (16 and 20 MPG respectively). "The Corvette Stingray is a great example of how we are leveraging engineering and…

Anyone driven a GM car with the shift skip? So how does it work? And how it will effect driving a new Camaro SS with a six speed? Also can it be removed? Please help me I have been wondering along time (and since my son or I will be getting one I was wondering), also do they include so the Camaro dodged the gas guzzler tax? What is this launch control and why is it slower in the M/T review than the without launch control? Also I have driven a few manual trans vehicles lately but what is the best way to launch one for max acceleration and for a smokey burnout? (On a vehicle like the Camaro SS, I understand to push the clutch in and release slowly while applying more and mo…

Over the weekend, Chevrolet announced the pricing for the 2016 Volt before it goes on sale later this year. Pricing for new model will begin at $33,995 (includes a $825 destination charge). Chevrolet is quick to point out the 2016 Volt is almost $1,200 less that current Volt on sale. Add in Federal and State incentives and you could drive away with a Volt for as low as $24,995. Aside from the price cut, the 2016 Volt sees an increase in overall electric range (50 vs. 31 miles) and a improvement for the gas engine's fuel economy (41 MPG vs. 37 MPG). "The next generation Chevrolet Volt delivers more technology, the ability to drive further between gas fill ups and now wit…

Word on NHRA forums is the Camaro will replace the Cobalt as the choice in NHRA's Pro Stock Division. We may be seeing a AC Delco Kurt Johnson Camaro as soon as late next year. [in testing] Keep in mind These cars are now carbon fibered bodied cars so no sheet metal is needed. This is the first indication GM has a motorsports program started for the new Camaro. The question is where else will it show up. IMSA, SCCA, NASCAR ???? NASCAR is looking to the Pony cars as replacments for the cars now used. they want them to be different from the Cup Cars. The BUSH series is getting a new sponsore in 2008 and this would be a good time to bring in a new car. Sorry n…

600 Horses: Chevy Working on '08 Corvette SS? Date posted: 12-06-2005 DETROIT — Corvette rumors are as rampant these days as tabloid stories about Nick and Jessica. But aficionados' antennae are picking up emanations from deep inside General Motors that Chevrolet is readying an ultra Vette for 2008 that should outgun the new Z06. According to the Web site, DigitalCorvettes.com, the so-called Corvette SS will be the ultimate Vette, although details at this stage are pretty slim. The rumor mill has a "charged" LS9 engine under the hood as a Corvette exclusive, not to be shared with Cadillac, Pontiac or any other GM brand. Although smaller in displacemen…

There seems to be quite the flood of lightly owned Captiva Sports on the market now. Some may recall these as Saturn Vues. How does everyone think these compare with the small-mid crossover market, with all its new contenders? The Captiva got the 6 speed auto. Its a solid ride. It didn't have the foibles of the Escape. But how can it compete when there is already an Equinox too? I think its a nice choice to have it in the pre-owned stable. The ones I have seen are too pricey though. I would get one over an Equinox maybe, but not a Terrain.

I was able to hear from Al Oppenheiser yesterday and here are some of the things non majore he related. The new Camaro convertible is in winter testing. Yes even with the roof down. He noted they are adding some more structure to the car and it will be nearly coupe like. He said no one should be disapointed in the chassie stiffness. He noted they are building Camaro's as fact as they can but have run into tire supply issues. It seems the Tires come from Brazil and are flown to Canada to arrive in time. They are conflicted with air transposts of Brazil exported fruit. GM is working with the Brazilian goverment to make sure to keep the tires coming. Sales for the Must…

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Colum...ubsubtypeId=216 Great article-it doesn't go too much into detailed ideas unfortunately, but I agree with what it does have to say-Chevrolet is fast (again) becoming like Rodney Dangerfield-big and not getting respect. It would help of course, if they had more style, and Cobalt, Malibu, and Uplander in particular had more passenger and cargo room.

Later this year, you'll be able to pick up a Chevrolet Equinox with a 1.6L turbodiesel engine that promises an estimated 40 mpg on the highway. What hasn't been revealed is how much the diesel will set you back. But the folks at CarsDirect have uncovered it. The diesel option will $31,435 for the LT and $33,930 for the Premier. The LT comes with 17-inch wheels, cloth seats, a 7-inch touchscreen with Chevrolet MyLink, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rear park assist. The Premier adds 18-inch wheels, leather seats, 8-inch touchscreen, and dual-zone climate control. …

I found an article from the February 2004 issue of Motor Trend. The article is a comparison between the then-new Chevy Malibu, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Mitsubishi Galant. Here is the money quote from the Malibu (which placed 3rd of 4, beating only the Camry) : "After years of producing also-rans, Chevrolet has turned out a family sedan that's competitive with the best in its segment. Families especially mindful of the bottom line need look no further." -Motor Trend 56.2 (Feb 2004): p92(11). (3745 words) I think we're hearing much of the same now with the new Malibu coming out. Only time will tell if this new generation escapes the journalistic fate of…

In the parking lot at my work (near airport in Houston), I saw a bright red, brand new Impala SS rental. I knew it was a rental because of the bar codes on the back windows. I didn't realize GM was selling the V8 W bodies to the rental car companies. I also saw a GXP Grand Prix with the V8 as a rental too not to long ago. Pretty cool actually. I wonder if the average Joe renting one of those is completely shocked when the press the gas down and realize (or maybe not realize) that they're driving a car that can easily run with a $40,000 IS350?

2007 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ - 2nd Quarter Update Suburban takes on every challenge By WES RAYNAL AND BOB GRITZINGER | Link to Original Review @ AutoWeek If our long-term Chevrolet Suburban has taught us anything in its first six months in our hands, it is this: Sometimes you find yourself in situations that require hauling huge piles of gear or a boatload of people, or both. In those cases, the Suburban has no peer. Simple, no? For proof that the Suburban is one of the more useful vehicles on the planet (and the most requested in our fleet), consider that we’ve put 17,043 miles on it in just six months. If we keep up that pace, the truck will easily rank in the top fi…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 7, 2013 Those hoping to see a Chevrolet SS at their dealer might be waiting for awhile. Edmunds is reporting that the first batch of SS sedans that will be arriving later this year is small. John Fitzpatrick, Chevrolet's marketing manager for the Camaro, Corvette, and SS says that about 900 SS sedans will be available to dealers. That brings forward a problem; there are about 3,000 Chevrolet dealers in the U.S. and with only 900 SSs available, this presents a big problem. How will General Motors dole out SS sedans? By looking at the sales of the Camaro and Corvette at each dealer. "If you have a niche selling …

Why not offer the LS7 in a detuned form as an option on the base steal framed VETTE positioned between the LS2 and the Z06 models. It could be called the 427 CORVETTE like the historical ones even though its actually 428CI's. With 475 or so HP and the heaver steal frame in NON Z06 spec it would differ enough from that HIGH PERFORMANCE model in both cost and performance. This is something I WOULD LOVE TO SEE! About a month ago, we reported on a California Air Resources Board (CARB) document that revealed the 2019 Camaro could be getting a seven-speed manual for the 6.2L V8. At the time, speculation was that the manual transmission could come from the Corvette. But it appears this dream has been popped. Last week, Bozi Tatarevic on Twitter uncovered that the document listing the seven-speed manual for the Camaro was marked as a canceled. A new document uploaded on the same day shows the 'Trans Type' being a six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic. CarBuzz speculates that the seven-speed transmission has been pushed back to 2020. Our guesses as to why GM pulled the seven-sp…

General Motors will begin importing the Colorado and Silverado pickups into China next year, but you'll only be able to buy them in select markets. Automotive News explains that many Chinese cities have bans on pickups for the fear of aggravating air pollution and causing more traffic issues. But earlier this year, the Chinese Government lifted the ban in four provinces - Henan, Hebei, Liaoning, and Yunnan - in an effort to jumpstart sales of domestic pickups. GM sees an opportunity with this and wants to explore it. But there is a major downside to this. Since GM will be importing the trucks, they'll be hit with 25 percent tariff by the Chinese Government. Source…

I got my hands on the May Hot Rod from my advertising department at work and noted they covered some of what we already know on the Blue Devil and 650 HP. Well they had a short piece on the Camaro engine line up. Here is what was stated word for word. Hot Rod May 2007 page 39 "However GM insiders have blabbed to Hot Rod the range of potential engines for GMs new Ponycar. There will be two V6 choices and at least three V8s, Including a 550 HP version of the supercharged 6.2L V-8 for the High content Z28 model. Scorces indicate there will be two base V8s, one stick and one Automatic, both of them over 400 HP." This fits along with much of what we have been hearing. I th…

Back in December, we reported on General Motors' VIN decoder for the 2019 model year. One of the interesting bits was the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze getting a CVT. We speculated at the time that the transmission would appear in a Eco model. But when GM announced the 2019 Cruze in April, there was no mention of the CVT. The only transmission news was that the six-speed manual had been dropped. Was the mention of the CVT a misprint? Nope. “There were a small number of Cruzes built with a CVT for fleet use only which is why the option is disclosed on the EPA website,” explained Katie Minter, Chevrolet spokeswoman to CarsDirect. The CVT option doesn't offer any significan…

If you're a truck manufacturer and have decided to build an off-road special, sooner or later you will be entering it a desert race to prove its merit. Ford and Toyota have done it with their respective models, and soon Chevrolet will be joining this crowd with the Colorado ZR2. The truck seen here was developed and built by Hall Racing. Competing in the Best in the Desert’s General Tire “Vegas to Reno” (the longest off-road race in the U.S), the Colorado ZR2 will be in class 7300, reserved for stock mid-size trucks and SUVs. 'Stock' carries a different meaning in racing as the ZR2 has some modifications for the race such as a rollcage, racing seats and harnesses; 44-…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 30, 2012 We've shown you spy shots of the new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. What we haven't been able to show is the two of them together... Until now. Automobile has gotten their hands on some new spy shots of the new Silverado and Sierra testing together. Much like the current models, the pictures reveal the trucks will have slight visual differences that include wheels, fender openings grilles, and taillights. The trucks feature a set of projector headlights and larger lower air dam. Around the side, the doors appear to not have any character lines. There is evidence of bright work around windows and so…

Back when gasoline was still $2.00 a gallon, GM threw all their weight behind the GMT-900s to get the vehicles out early. By all accounts, they did a great job and the trucks are at the top of their class. Now today, gas is fast approaching $4.00 a gallon. GM must pull this same rabbit out their hat again! All of GM's weight needs to be behind the Delta II project. Back burner the next 'Vette, backburner any SUVs that won't be released with a 2-mode at launch, backburner any more Cadillacs. Delta II needs to be here yesterday. It must: Be E85 capable Have both BAS-II and 2-mode hybrid options Have interiors that make people say "ZOMG!! This is a GM?" It mu…

Has GM announced what happens to the Cobalt SS Turbo when the Cruze takes over in 2011? Are they going to carry over the drive train into a Cruze SS or something? The new SS seems to be wiping the floor of the sport compact segment, so it would be a shame to see performance Chevy compacts die off when the Cruze is introduced...

We're now into the third week of the strike at GM's CAMI Assembly in Ontario and neither side appears to be budging. There are rising concerns that GM could be running out of the stockpile of the Chevrolet Equinox. GM's second-best selling nameplate. According to data from Automotive News, GM had 43,453 Equinoxes (about a 41-day supply) at the beginning of this month. Chevrolet dealers sold 27,512 Equinox models last month. If this trend continues, there could be some serious problems towards the end of the year. "That's going to be hard on Equinox to compete on such a limited quantity in such a hot segment. We would expect sales to pick up in the last quarter o…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 25, 2012 Two months after NHTSA opened an investigation into the 2011 and 2012 Chevrolet Cruze due to fires, General Motors has announced a recall for 413,418 Cruzes for the 2011 and 2012 model years that were built in the United States through May 2012. The recall affects the Cruze’s engine shield located underneath the engine. The worry is that any fluids that might leak from above and land on the shield could collect and possibly ignite. Dealers will modify the Cruze’s shield and take around 30 minutes to complete. Also, GM is recalling 249 Cruzes that could have partially completed welds in their trunks. Will…

This one goes out to Olds and ocn I thought this story was pretty awesome and entertaining. Coolest part of it all was that it was still using a manual transmission. I think a manual transmission would really help keep the enthusiasts, like ourselves, a little more entertained by electric cars. I know it would add to the experience so much more than just a straight auto that never shifts.. As exhilarating as the g-forces would be still being able to row my own gears in a performance car would be ideal. There wasn't much to read so I just posted it all: "It would be easy to assume the Tesla Model S is the fastest electric car in the world. The P90D ca…

General Motors has issued a recall for 64,000 Chevrolet Volts from the 2011-13 model years to prevent carbon monoxide buildup in a enclosed space when a driver forgets to shut off the vehicle. Automotive News reports that if a driver leaves their Volt running in the electric mode, the vehicle will drain the battery and cause the gas engine to kick on. "If the gas engine runs for a long period of time within an enclosed space, such as a garage, carbon monoxide could build up," GM said in a statement. GM says they are aware of two people who had carbon monoxide exposure from the Volt. At the moment, the Volt has a chime that come on if a driver exits the vehicle and lea…

Guys, just registered, need help quick! The horn is stuck on my Chevrolet Lumina Sedan. 1998 base model. Last night, the steering wheel got hit hard. Now, any time I turn to the right, the horn starts blaring until I move the wheel. What can I do? I tried to find the fuse to no avail. Here's the April update on Volt 1712: With the weather warming up here in CT, I am easily seeing 40+ miles in EV range, with a high so far of 48 miles. Staying off the highway and sticking with the back roads is the easiest way to see the higher mileage because of regenerative charge back to the battery during coasting and braking. This isn't always possible or practical or course, and I don't take the back roads just to extend the EV range. I still continue to drive in SPORT mode and have found it has not reduced my range. I'm also experimenting with driving in Low (in lieu of Drive). Some Volt owners on the Voltage site have indicated that driving in Low has exte…

PickupTrucks.com is reporting that General Motors will be quietly dropping the light-duty full-size vans in the 2015 model year. That means the only vans you can buy at a Chevrolet or GMC dealer will be the 2500, 3500 and 4500 versions. GM sales spokesman Jim Cain said the 1500 models only made up 23 percent of the Chevrolet Express and 7 percent of the GMC Savana. "We recognize that the van space has changed radically. The 1500-series van was the last vehicle [of its type] that has been produced in North America that was under 8,500 pounds, and it had some very unique attributes to it," said Joe Langhauser, product manager for GM's full-size vans. GM isn't worried abou…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com December 30, 2011 Today, General Motors issued a recall for 4,873 Chevrolet Sonics due to missing front brake pads. The Sonics in question were built between June 2 and November 21 at GM's Orion Township plant. GM says that out of the 4,873 Sonics, only 20 to 30 have no brake pads. Having no brake pads on your car doesn't mean you can't stop, it means the braking performance will suffer and could cause damage to other parts of the braking system. GM says they will notify all potentially affected Sonic owners and install any missing pads and, if necessary, replace any calipers or rotors free of charge. Source: NHTSA …

It's the end of the road for the Chevrolet Camaro. The final Camaro was a ZL1 1LE with a manual transmission. As of now, there are no images of the final Camaro. Chevy didn't tell a spokesperson from Motor1 whether they would keep it or sell it to a customer. A Chevrolet spokesman said in a statement "Camaro is a passion product. It has developed a fan base worldwide and brought people into Chevrolet dealerships for generations. The sixth generation specifically represented athleticism and composure – exuding confidence on the road and dominance on the track." Chevy had previously announced in March 2023 that the Camaro would retire after the 2024 model year. …

Link to the story is HERE All in all a good review. The complaints made were to be expected since they mostly revolved around the quality of the interior which could certainly use some improvement. Let's hope GM brings the interior of this vehicle up to par as they have with *most* of their recent MCE's and redesigns.
